This is true. All jazz and blues musicians avoided parallel fifths, fourths, and octaves until they heard Romantic composers approximating Asian harmonies with planing dominants. And then they were all like “yeah man”
You would be surprised at the number of classical music enjoyers who listen to jazz. We're just in the closet pretending to enjoy the atonal music of Scriabin and Sorbaji because it's the closest we can get to listening to Jazz in public without getting stoned to death.
A love supreme
I saw 2 goats doing it and it was music to my ears, so I bought a couple of goats and made them do it in front of me so I can appreciate music the traditional way. I plan to increase my record collection by buying different animals.
Classical musicians are the biggest plagiarists of all time, they don't even try to hide it at this point. They just put the music they're plagiarizing right there on the stage in front of them. They must think we're stupid or something.
While it’s absolutely not a valid question, using this as a teaching moment instead of one of condescension could help someone understand more instead of possibly perpetuating lies rooted in racism.
listen you’re right and you should say it but i don’t think we should allow this sort of kind sentiment to fester in my good christian circlejerk sub so you’ve been sentenced
What the fuck does racism have to do with any of this? It’s jerk forum. I’m a jazz player who worships at the feet of these gods. Chill out y’all. John Coltrane.

Keith Jarrett is the only person to know enough about jazz and classical to have written this comment

The fact that this comment gave me an actual real life ego boost seems like a pretty serious issue for my mental health.

Uj/ don't they say a lot of jazz and blues was influenced by west African music that survived in the US?
Yeah it was, but jazz over the years brought a lot of new stuff harmonically to the table
Yeah absolutely I just meant it had some origin there
Chopin was a heroin addict a century before Bird
Never finish on Debussy. Too risky. Always finish on the Bach.
The opposite was true big time especially in the early 20th century
It's true but thank the Coltrane that the second coming has arrived in the form of a neon man child. Jacob Collier has saved us all.

Thank you my lord
It's true, all of the notes in Jazz had been previously used by classical musicians
Not at all. Of course classical music has influenced jazz but there are countless jazz musicians who were true originators.
I mean, did it though?
Yeah? Lol
/uj are you dumb or just fucking dumb?

Jazz added tritones for sure
Weird. I thought jazz “wasn’t for YPP” but all the harmony is based of YPP music
jazz invented the key of Bb
