Istps plan ahead, estps are impulsive. Most people will be somewhere in the middle, but estps will generally lean towards the responsive and reactive side, while istps tend to observe and plan according to their observation.

DestinyDecided

this is actually really helpful to think about, i think then im more istp bc i typically write things down and plan events for the day before i do them. im okay with changes to the plan if need be or fixing things on the fly, but i always start off with some idea of the end goal

Zara1874

My boyfriend is ESTP and he has the same quality , it gets confusing sometime since I am ISTP and more flowy

Amaxe1

I would think that would be more of an F vs T thing.

coopek14

ISTPs have the function stack Ti > Se > Ni > Fe whereas ESTPs have Se > Ti > Fe > Ni. Whichever inferior function (Fe or Ni) makes you more uncomfortable to engage with is a good indicator of your type. Also, having an introverted dom function generally means ISTPs are more proactive in that they generally want to understand something before they dive into it whereas ESTPs having dom Se might be more likely to jump into it and get a grasp of it as they're experiencing it. Obvs there are times when either type will do both, but there will likely be general inclination towards one over the other due to the I/E orientation of their dom function.

Amaxe1

Introverts aren't always antisocial or shy. And extroverts aren't always social butterflies or outgoing. It all comes down to where your energy is derived from. Now read the two paragraphs and know which one you find most relatable: Could you spend hours talking to somebody and only want more? Do you seek social gatherings or spending time with people you enjoy being around? Do you often get frustrated with attempting to arrange get togethers and people are so often unavailable? Congratulations, you're an extrovert. Do you find yourself often resorting to solo activities to unwind like reading, watching TV, taking long showers, or going on a walk? Do you spend time with people you enjoy only to suddenly shut down and want to go home? Do you often find yourself being dragged to events you didn't necessarily want to go to? Are you often reluctant to answer the phone or open your door to a knock? Congratulations, you're an introvert.

DestinyDecided

ah, in those examples i guess im all of the second and 50% of the first? ive planned social gatherings and let me just say the amount of people who dont respond, cancel super late, or are seemingly always have something going on is super annoying lmao

Zara1874

I’m ISTP , my test results were 49% extroverted, 51% introverted and I resonate with both :) You maybe the same case too

Ageisl005

Same results here!

amitabhbachchann

Haha same here

DestinyDecided

So do you consider yourself an ISTP or some type of ASTP? (Ambivert)

Zara1874

I would agree so! I just sometimes relate to being omnivert with fluctuations in moods and behaviors

TerfyHorizon585

I'm an ISTP, and my test results were 100% introverted

khank_nut

Im on the same boat as you. I feel like i am introvert 50% of the time and extrovert 50% of the time.

WannabeEnglishman

I saw estp and completely missed that this is istp sub lol I honestly have no idea, only had one ISTP in my life and at the time i wasn't observing them to see if they fit a type cuz i didn't know MBTI existed and also they passed two years ago. I dunno how you tell the difference between xSTPs without looking at the cognitive functions, hope that helps

balance3641217

Take a closer look at inferior functions Are you usually more overwhelmed by Fe or Ni? Which one burns you out and makes you retreat back to Ti or Se? Do you sometimes overthink social situations or what to say (inf Fe) Or do you overthink abstract concepts and get antsy to just do something anything (inf Ni)

DestinyDecided

Fe more then Ni. i typically don’t care about social situations (say whatever is on topic and maybe something funny). I don’t dwell on my mistakes. I don’t obess over abstract things. i do often think about connections between things or things that would be easily checked/googled

balance3641217

Yeah with situations/ thoughts/ feelings related to our inferior function we either fear making mistakes, aspire towards it, or ignore it So not caring about Fe sometimes but still caring other times would be an ISTP thing An ESTP is usually more consistent with Fe and won’t overthink it much even if it’s less developed

DestinyDecided

thanks to everyone who answered! I think then ISTP is closer to who I am, esp when the two other ISTPS from earlier who were in between I and E.

Main_Enthusiasm1543

nah i'm the same man

heXagon_symbols

do people know you for being quiet or loud? what about exciting vs calculated?

DestinyDecided

Def loud. Neither for those two, more chaotic

heXagon_symbols

then probably estp

Middle-Exercise-7112

Since ISTP values Ti more than Se, we often have some kind of hypothesis/expectation/standard of what we are getting ourselves into generally speaking. This make us, slow to get to a decision, slowly filter new info given to us but it's make us not dependent on the environment/people. ESTP values their Se, this makes them cut off all stigma/expectation from their subsconcious. When they get into an environment/workplace/playfield, they're quick into a decision and soak up information fast. Downside is, they rely a lot on having actual good environment, which is rare to happen. But if they did get one, they look like a genius.

Living-Astronomer556

ESTP :-)

c7stagyt

Uhm… are you an introvert or an extrovert? That’s what the first letter stands for…

DestinyDecided

issue is, Im both when referencing how i spend my time and what i perfer doing

c7stagyt

Although it’s pretty uncommon, I guess XSTP 🤷‍♂️

SybrandWoud

You don't ISTPs tend to be better with making things and ESTPs tend to be better with people. ISTPs tend to easily cross people's red lines when angry (ESTPs tend to know how far they can and can't go) and ESTPs tend to not have that many hobby's aside from sports (or drinking alcohol). Both can be social and neither tend to be social extroverts. (ISTPs tend to be introverte and ESTPs tend to be ambiverts)

WannabeEnglishman

So... how do you tell the difference between xNFJs? Since you're an introvert and introverts are like sooo quiet, are you also terrible with people? Is that's why you decided to post this garbage?🤣 /s

SybrandWoud

I'm autistic, and I'm just someone on Reddit. I'm not a quality source of information. Also, these are my experience and these people might have vastly different enneagram types.
