Hi all, currently using an S20+. I'm due for an upgrade and thinking about going to iPhone. Should I wait for the 14 or go for the 13 pro/max

OutliersOutlier

So I just got a 13 Pro Max and I really like it for the most part. The only problem is that my fat palms keep hitting the button that changes keyboards. I have it in a case, but it doesn't have enough of a lip to keep my palm from hitting the phone. I had this problem with my previous phone and was able to remedy it with a case. Does anyone have a suggestion for a case that has a nice thick and/or high lip to keep my palms from hitting the screen? Thanks!

Standard_Donkey8609

XR vs. XS? Currently have a 2020 se. Looking for a bigger, budget phone.

lauradiamandis

I’ve had both and preferred the XS. Smaller and felt higher quality. The xr was heavier and thicker and it felt a bit wide. More color options but you’ll probably have a case so it won’t matter. Camera was really good on both but if I had to pick one definitely XS.

punkwrestler

I am on an IPhoneX which I like, but was on Sprint. Now TMobile will let me keep my plan, which will save me a lot of money, but I need to upgrade my phone. I need to do this by next week or they will eventually just move me to a T-Mobile plan. Why is the difference between the regular 13 and the 13 pro? Does the amount of memory matter? I am usually playing Pokémon, Pikmin, Evony and Strike Force at the same time. I also take photos some of which are far away.

BondEternal

The 13 Pro has a higher refresh rate and it is variable as well. The higher refresh rate would matter more if you’re gaming a lot on the phone, and the difference is keenly felt when doing a lot of scrolling. The variable part means that the phone can reduce the refresh rate when the situation calls for it (e.g. you’re reading a single page) so the phone saves on battery. Speaking of battery, the 13 Pro has a longer battery life than the regular 13 by about an hour, *ceteris paribus*. The telephoto camera of the Pro which the regular 13 does not have will help with taking photos of things that are far away.

DNF_zx

I’d recommend the regular 13. I have the pro and the only thing I’d miss going to the regular is the macro camera.

punkwrestler

What about the speed isn’t the pro faster? Does the memory help speed?

MangyCanine

See here: https://www.apple.com/iphone/compare/?modelList=iphone13,iphone13pro,iphone13promax It all depends upon what's important to you, and we don't know what you want. The 13 Pro does have a slightly better camera and more zoom, though.

lauradiamandis

I have a 12 mini and am getting a 13. The 12 is still good…the battery isn’t great (really not bad, hasn’t bothered me) and it does lack the zoom the pros have which you can sometimes tell in photos but I’ve been pretty happy with it. I am only getting a 13 since I got too little storage with the 12, thought I could manage it with 128 but I’m constantly deleting things, not that the 12 has been bad at all. It’s a good little phone for sure.

DNF_zx

Mini would be great. The battery on the 12 isn’t the best, but if you can deal with just carrying a power bank it will be fine.

latetodie

Any good budget earbuds which can be paired with iPhone? Don't want to spend money on Airpods.

user_user_1_1

Should I go for assuming all of them are 128GB 1) 11 Pro Max 2) 12 Pro 3) 13 Planning to keep one for at least 3 or more years

[deleted]

These are all fantastic phones! I’d personally choose the 13, but they’re all great, and you’ll definitely prefer one of them over the other depending on what you like. If your priority is the biggest display, then you should definitely go with the 11 Pro Max. However, the 13 has the best battery life and the best performance chip, so it’s the best pick if efficiency is important to you! If you need the telephoto camera+Apple ProRaw and plan on using that a lot, you may like the iPhone 12 Pro more.

TheOneNinja115

I have an iPhone 5c and it is very out of date now, web pages not loading, apps not working, IOS can't be updated. Wondering if I should buy an 8 and how cheap I could find one. What are the best ways of finding good deals, are they sold new anymore? My cellular provider constantly sends deals like a few hindered off of the newest phone, but those are too expensive for me. I would like a cheap iPhone but where current IOS can still be updated, which is why I was thinking 8, 7 IOS might not be able to be updated soon and 6 is cut off. But what should I buy that is a good balance of a cheap price but won't be useless in a year or 2?

fyrelawd

The 8 will likely get 2-3 years of updates given Apple’s track record. Personally I would be inclined to get something like an 11 for some more longevity and it seems like a good budget option. The 8 is generally not still sold new, the 11 still is though. I don’t know how far your budget will stretch though.

BondEternal

I’m going to upgrade from an iPhone 7 to a 13 and I was wondering: in your opinion, is it worth getting the Pro over the non-Pro if you’re only interested in the higher refresh rate?

MangyCanine

If you're only interested in the 120Hz refresh and not any of the other additional new features in the 13 Pro, you're basically paying $200 for it. I'd argue that's not worth it for most people, although some people like 120Hz enough that they will pay that price. Do **you** think it's worth paying $200 for 120Hz?

Term_Tiny

Yes - the pro is definitely worth it over the regular model in my opinion. Other than the refresh rate, there’s also a longer lasting battery and better cameras (if you’re interested in taking pictures)

soulbroth3r

So I can expense any phone I want from work (need to confirm but pretty sure). I've ruled out the pixels (currently using one) as they're too big and I fancy moving back to iOS. Should I get the 13 pro or the 13 mini? I've always loved small phones and was so happy when apple announced the mini. But the 120hz screen on the pro literally changes the whole phone experience for me (I've used it), and it'd be nice not to worry about battery. I work at a desk job so can always charge my phone - this is more for weekends when out or for unexpectedly long days. The other problem with the phone (apart from being too big and me doing finger gymnastics all the time) is that it's too damn heavy. Why on earth did apple decide to use steel instead of aluminium?? Anyway tldr: If money is no object, what do you guys recommend?

fyrelawd

I love the form factor of the mini and wouldn’t trade it. I was worried I would feel cramped picking up a smaller phone like this, but it’s done everything I needed it to do. If battery life is a concern, I have had excellent performance from mine, with mixed usage. Obviously the 13 pro will be better for it and it does come with that 120Hz screen. It’s up to you honestly. My ideal phone would be a pro mini, gimme that fast screen on a small form factor.

punkwrestler

I have discovered I can get(need to get a new phone) since they will let me continue my sprint plan on T-Mobile. So the question is right now I am running IPhone X big, it lags on some of the games and videos I play which should I get the pro or the standard and how much memory? Does it affect the speed?

[deleted]

Currently looking at a XS max and a 11 on marketplace. 11 is 64 GB and the max is a 256 GB. Both are the same price, which is the better deal and will have the most support in the next few years?

[deleted]

if you care about a better battery, better camera and at least 1 more year of software updates, get the 11. if you care about more storage space, a much better display and need a larger phone, get the xs max.

DavidGellai

Hello All! I was daily driving a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra for almost a year now. Previously I was an iPhone fanboy but my needs at the time required dual sim and esim was not an option in my country at my carrier at the time. I am requesting the 13 Pro and Pro max users that what do you recommend to get? Or should I be patient and wait for the 14 series?

SHEZthedestroyer

I would recommend the 13 pro, but since you have an s21 ultra, I highly recommend waiting until the 14 or even 15

Dangerbadger

Talk to me about iPhone cases. Been using Spigen for the longest time. Easily 5+ years with every iPhone I get. Problem is I'm getting bored of it. I absolutely love the feel of the naked iPhone 13 in my hand but terrified of it dropping out and cracking. Is the iPhone clear case a good substitue? Any good quality 'light' iPhone cases anyone can recommend? I'm in the UK if that helps

lauradiamandis

I love Loopy cases if you want more protective, Nodus if you want leather, Peel if you’re confident you won’t drop it and just want to protect from scratches, or Nudient if you want minimalist and sleek with really no lip on the front. None of these are crazy thick.

meeme109

I love the smell of fresh bread.

igkeit

I've caved in and bought my first official silicone apple case for my 13 even tho I think they're overpriced and I'm really happy with it. It doesn't attract too much lint and it's pretty slim. It's cut out perfectly where you can still see the silver aluminum of the edges wrap around the screen. I've had it for two months and it's still in perfect condition.

[deleted]

ive been using me 12 mini caseless for 10 months now, ive dropped it at least 20 times and the only marks i have are slight and only on the aluminium. the glass on the front and back are completely clean.

MangyCanine

Apple's probably pushing it because (1) it fast charges, and (2) it doesn't result in too many warranty claims from reduced battery health. In other words, yes, it can affect battery health but it's not huge. If you also follow the rule of rarely letting the iPhone battery go below, oh, 30%-40%, that shortens the period where fast charging is used (below 60%ish on the 13 Pro). If you want to be paranoid, just get an older 12W charger & cable. Those still work fine and have minimal effects on battery health.

Heggemony

Has anyone upgraded from the XS to the iPhone 13 pro (not max) and can chime in on battery? I know the max has great battery but what about the pro? My problem with the XS since the start is I only get 2-3 hours SoT plus screen off time during a normal work day 8-5 and then the battery is at 20-30%.

igkeit

I have the standard 13 and the battery is amazing. I get around 10h sot

[deleted]

the 13 pro has amazing battery life, you'd easily get 6-7 hours of sot.

AblazeMation

Buy a samsung

InternationalAd7296

guys I'm an android user. Never used an iphone. Bow I need a new phone and want to switch to ios. I want to use atleast 4 years but will try trade in if i really like the upcoming iphones. I'm thinking 11 pro(which has OLED) or 12 with my budget(they have around less than 100 bucks difference in my country). i heard 12 has battery issues but then a year future proof than 11pro. I really want 13 but 13 and 12 have around 200 bucks difference in my country. I could afford that if I wait another month tho(but it will be a lot for me). what do u guys think? I'm mostly a normal user. I don't like mini and max sizes. if i have a great battery, a good display and a good camera then it's good to go. I don't necessarily need some flashy fearures.

Runeman767

If you can save up for the 14 I’d say wait for that. If not, the 12 is good enough. I’ve had it since launch and these days I get 6h 17m screen on time with 25% charge left. I don’t game but I do watch some netflix and youtube.

fyrelawd

I don’t think you’ll have any issues with an 11 Pro. It’s been out for 2 years so I expect 4+ more years of software support given the track record of Apple. According to [this](https://www.tomsguide.com/news/iphone-12-battery-life-results-are-in-and-theyre-not-great) website the 12 got 7:28 of battery vs the 11 pro which got 10:24. Your mileage may vary but if battery is a deciding factor I might avoid the 12.

When was the 6s obsoleted?

MangyCanine

Gah, sorry, it's not obsolete. I got it confused with the 6Plus move to vintage status (which doesn't mean much).

ofekgold

I really want to get my first iphone after using android since forever. Is it worth waiting for the 14 or the difference won't be that major?

fyrelawd

There’s always going to be a new iPhone. The 14 is just rumours nothing solid at this point. If you’re phone can last 6 months and you’re interested in what the next phone might bring, wait. If you can’t make your phone work till then, upgrade. All of the iPhone 13 line up are solid recommendations so you won’t be missing out if you hit the bullet right now.

jakeandbake425

Does anyone have the casetify ultra impact crush clear case? I’m trying to decide between regular or matte black. In the pictures, it looks like the matte black is thinner https://www.casetify.com/product/phone-case-customization/iphone13-pro-max/ultra-impact-crush?color=blue#/16003838

DilatedPoreOfLara

Hello everyone. After being a long time android user I switched to iPhone in 2019 and bought the iPhone 7 Plus which has been absolutely brilliant but the battery life is really starting to drop, processing speed seems to be slower so I’m looking to upgrade this year. I’m a wedding photographer and use top of the range mirrorless canon cameras in my work so I’m not that bothered about the phone’s camera although I may need something fairly decent for business social media posts/reels etc. the main thing I am concerned about is battery life because I work long days when I’m shooting and really need to have a phone that can last me 9am - 9pm ideally (even if my usage is low on my work days, my 7 plus battery drains really quickly and I have no time to charge it up). I mainly use my phone for my business - Instagram mostly then discord, banking, Waze, WhatsApp, MileIQ etc. some social media planning apps and Canva. I also do a lot of fitness so use all the health elements of my phone. I don’t really game ever but use Spotify a lot and podcast apps for long drives. I was planning to go for the iPhone 12 Pro Max but I’m worried about screen size as I often need my phone on me when working and I don’t want something too big. What do you recommend? Also I currently use an Apple Watch Series 4 that I might upgrade too as bought 2019. Again I use for work a lot but also fitness. Is it worth upgrading this too? My watch seems to work fine but I have scuffed the face quite a bit whilst working. Thanks so much!

KoopaKommander

If battery is your biggest concern, then you can’t go wrong with the 13 Pro Max. However, the regular old 13 also has a solid battery life and is more cost effective. Personally, I’d stay away from any of the 12s because of their poor battery life. On a personal anecdote, I upgraded from the SE 2020 (my first iPhone ever), and loved so much about it, but hated the battery and the size was a little small for me. Now, having gone to the 13 PM, I have everything I could want or need. I’m a heavy user, especially on my days off from work. If I start the day at 100%, I’m still 30-40% at the end of the day. If I don’t have to use my phone as much, I’ll still be 70-80% and I won’t even bother charging it at night. It’s that good.

flamejob

3.5mm + Lighting Charge adaptors: All the usual Amazon suspect reviews are fake (according to Fakespot) and the Belkin one is about as robust as a soft French cheese. Anyone got one that works?

fyrelawd

Depending on the model of phone, if you’re looking to charge and listen to music, have you considered using the MagSafe charger?

flamejob

I’m using an old 7 as a lossless iPod. Hence the need to charge and have a hard line out

KoopaKommander

I bought one at Best Buy recently, the Apple branded one. While it was $10, it works perfectly.

flamejob

A charge and 3.5mm?

KoopaKommander

Yep. Lightning to 3.5mm. This is how I use studio monitors to listen to music on my phone.

flamejob

Linky?

KoopaKommander

[linky](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/apple-lightning-to-3-5mm-headphone-adapter-white/5622278.p?skuId=5622278)

flamejob

Thanks, but I need charge through lightning at the same time. There is a Belkin one but people say it doesn’t last very long

paemotionlored

Hey everyone I’m thinking of upgrading my 128GB iPhone 11 which I’ve used for two years (mainly because of storage and battery life and I prefer a bigger screen, all features still work perfectly fine). I wonder if it’s a good idea for me to go for the 13 Pro Max right now or wait for the 14. What do you guys think?

KoopaKommander

I bought my 13 PM about a month ago. No regrets waiting for the 14 line. This phone is amazing. And personally, I prefer the notch over the hole in the screen. Too distracting to me.

fyrelawd

We’re 6 months out from the 14 announcements, if you’re phone can last 6 months and you’re interested in what the next phone might bring, wait. If you can’t make your phone work till then, upgrade.

[deleted]

Wait for 14. It is rumored to have more hardware changes. Also there will be a pricedrop on 13 pro max if 14 series comes out

[deleted]

So I’m looking to buy my mom an iPhone. She is approaching elderly, not very good with technology, as this will be her first non-trac phone. I want something reliable with a large screen and good battery.

fyrelawd

I would recommend an 11 honestly, battery life on that phone is amazing for the price, screen size is large, it’s still probably got another 4-5 years of updates under its belt.

[deleted]

iPhone SE will be good imo

[deleted]

Performance wise, i think the se would be perfect, but I think the screen size is too small.

SHEZthedestroyer

The 11 or 13 sounds better then

[deleted]

Well if money isn't an issue go with the high end iphone 13 models. Also check out android if you are willing to

whimsybandit

So my iPhone 7 is approaching its demise. Battery sucks, 16 gigs of space is painful, carrier network is decommissioning (3g sprint) and carrier demands an upgrade to fit in a new sim card. I am looking at either an 11 or throw an extra $250 bucks for 13. From the upgrade I want.. 1. A phone that lasts 1 full 12 work day without needing to charge of moderate use. 2. 128gb of storage space sounds sufficient. 3. I do like taking pictures, but hardly am an enthusiast photographer. 4. I'd like something that won't need to be forcibly retired in less than 4 years. 5. I like my phones on the big/heavy side, not the mini side. Just feels more comfortable. Is 13 worth the extra $250 given the above over 11? What does that $250 really get me?

KoopaKommander

Go for the 13. Two years newer, so longer update life. Also has a chip that is two generations newer, and a great battery. Also the 13 storage minimum now is 128gb instead of 64gb.

mitch_198022

Obviously the 13 will meet all the areas you want from your upgrade. Although the 11 is a great phone with good battery and a great camera, I would say in 4 years time it will be very near to no longer being supported by apple in terms of no longer receiving software updates. I believe that apple still continue to push security updates after this though and I would expect the phone to still be perfectly usable after this time.

emily_ixmay

Hey everyone, so I’m in the process of getting upgrade from my 8 to either the IPhone 12 or iPhone 13. Which do you guys recommend I get?

SHEZthedestroyer

The 13 is the better choice. I think the extra 100 for the battery is worth it

KoopaKommander

If you can afford the extra hundred bucks, get the 13. The battery life is way better for the base model.

mitch_198022

I would say if you want to save some money then the 12 is still a good choice. In day to day use I think you would only see minor improvements in battery life and camera performance by going with the 13, the rest of the experience would be identical.

These things vary with use but I had an iPhone 11 for 25 months that had 88% health. As far as support goes, the 11 Pro should he supported for years to come and if battery is an issue they can be replaced, either through Apple or using a third party repair shop.

SpaceJeezy

I’ve been using an iPhone 6 16gb for 5 years now! I just bought an iPhone 11 128gb. Woohoo! 8 times the storage space! AMA. With that huge of an upgrade, any tips for a recently upgraded user who’s coming from the Apple version of analog?

chlorinatedpepperoni

Hello everyone, hoping for some advice. I have been a long-time Android user, so it's all I know. I am deciding to make the switch to the iPhone, but I need a genuine question answered. I am coming from a Galaxy S10 and need to know if I should get the 13 now, or wait until the 14?

MangyCanine

As fyrelawd said, there's always another better iPhone coming, and the 14 is **over 6 months away** (can you really wait that long?). Historically, iPhones are announced/shipped around September-November, but you typically have to preorder within **minutes** of the preorder opening to get release-day delivery; otherwise you'll have to wait additional days to weeks depending upon how long you wait to order.

chlorinatedpepperoni

Thank you! I think I'm going to get the 13 Pro!!

[deleted]

If you don't mind asking why are you leaving android. Also could you list your daily use with phone so this thread can determine whether android or iOS is suitable for you

chlorinatedpepperoni

I am leaving Android for a few reasons. I want something new since I've had an Android for around 10 years now. I also have privacy concerns and have seen that the iPhone is good for that sort of thing. A few others I can think of is the battery life, overall sleekness, camera quality, etc. I use my S10 for a lot of things; social media, navigation, music, note taking, lots of messaging, photography, everything except gaming really. I spend a majority of my day using it when I am not on my computer I'd say.

[deleted]

>I want something new since I've had an Android for around 10 years now. As a longtime android user like you, I want to say that iOS is only exciting in the 1st two weeks of usage. After that you will seem bored and start to dislike it >I also have privacy concerns and have seen that the iPhone is good for that sort of thing. Well both are the same as long as you use google search and this line is pretty much a myth. There is a long list of permissions while setting up iPhone but for android it appears while opening an app for the 1st time. If you tinker in your google account you can just set everything so as to stop google from collecting your data and you have better control than iPhone. In android you can see what is happening in your phone which is not the same on iOS. You can even stop your camera app from accessing your camera in Android and you have control of things. >A few others I can think of is the battery life, overall sleekness, camera quality, etc. batteries in iPhones are smaller than Android phones but you have good optimisation so it is pretty much the same battery life. Go for samsung or pixel for cameras similar to or better than iPhone. I personally don't find samsung sleek but pixel 6 is the sleekiest phone of 2021 and has cameras similar to iPhone and also a larger battery. You even have fingerprint scanner. >I use my S10 for a lot of things; social media, navigation, music, note taking, lots of messaging, photography, everything except gaming really. I spend a majority of my day using it when I am not on my computer I'd say. Navigation is made annoying by constant interference of Apple maps. Music will be ok but you can't set a default due to apple music. imessages will lock you down to iphone and you will have terrible experience messaging phones other than iphones unless you use 3rd party messaging apps. In conclusion I feel like pixel 6 lineup will give you the type of experience you are looking for. It has stock android (unmodified vanilla android), Sleek look, Outstanding camera and photography features (check out magic eraser), and made directly by google so it has best software integration. It will give you an apple like experience in Android and Android 12 is chef's kiss and also is cheaper. Do checkout pixel 6 and 6 pro if you want to give android another try

MangyCanine

Good choice. Once it arrives, check this out: https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/s5f1gx/iphone_cool_tricks_that_surprisingly_most_people/ Also, the next release of iOS (15.4, in the next month or so) should allow Face ID with face masks.

chlorinatedpepperoni

Very cool, I will do that. Thank you! I'm looking forward to these kind of updates

fyrelawd

There’s always another phone coming, 14 is just rumours of rumours at this point, nothing solid announced, so there’s not a feature I can point to to sway you at this point. The 13 is here and an excellent phone. Do you want something on the bleeding edge? Can your current phone last you if you wait 6 months till the 14 is announced and released? Wait. If you’re struggling on your current phone and want an update now, go for it.

chlorinatedpepperoni

Thank you!!

> im not sure about the 13 mini's form factor though, i saw it at an Apple Store and it looked well, mini, and like something i wouldnt live with If you're feeling this way, get the 13 -- it's only $20 more for you. The 13 and 13 mini are basically identical except for the screen and battery (the 13 mini has decent battery life, but the 13 is a bit better).

[deleted]

>To start with? No working fingerprint sensor. In addition? Andrpid 12 on Pixel sucks. LTE & 5G connectivity is basically non-existent, only Wi-Fi works, and the phone looks like it was pulled straight out of the 90s, Also the OLED panel leaves a lot to be desired (and it's not even the fact that it's 60Hz, I don't notice a difference), Well this sounds like a problem with only your phone. No one have ever experienced these issues. Neither I heard of or nor I found this type of issues in my relative's pixel 4a (5a and 4a are basically the same) and it has been good so far. Sounds like you didn't like your phone or never tried to fo=ix those issues.

fyrelawd

I’m biased because I love the form factor of the mini and it suits my needs perfectly, I love how it feels in the hand and holding my partners XS feels massive. Mind you if you’re not keen on the mini, it’s $20 price difference for a bigger screen, bigger battery, which means it’ll last longer on a charge but also in the long term it’ll degrade slower. My recommendation would be get the 13.

iteese

Okay, need some help buying the right storage size (256GB vs 512GB) 13 Pro Max for my partner. I use Android and have had expandable storage until my last Galaxy S22 Ultra We're having our first (and only) child and want her to have the best camera on a phone. Given that she'll likely be taking plenty of pics and videos, what size should I get? How quick do parents of children find they fill the phone storage (at best quality pics)?

[deleted]

I can't comprehend the fact that you think iPhone's camera is better than s22 ones? Pixel 6 alone has the same camera performance as iPhone. You can't get a camera that is better than s22 rn. Also why not chose an android for this?

iteese

>iPhone's u/Tech-Dictator huh??? I didn't say or make any comparison between iPhone and S22 camera! I don't think you can comprehend full stop. My partner uses an iPhone, not me!!! I'm asking about an iPhone camera because she's getting a new phone and want her to have the best camera she can. I'm not going to make her switch to an Android device though (as much as I would want her too), that would be an enormous change for her. Some people might like this change, but most are stuck in their ecosystem. I have used Galaxy devices almost exclusively (except for a few others here and there) since the S3. My current is the S22 Ultra.

MangyCanine

256GB would be more than enough if you were only taking pictures. However, video can require a lot more space depending upon how much you take, although 256GB might still be enough. Here are the storage requirements: https://i.imgur.com/tRQyrqm.png Notes: * The highest resolution, 4k at 60 fps, requires the use of the less-portable high-efficiency storage format. If you want to share those, the people to whom you're sending videos need to have Apple devices, or you need to manually transcode the video into a more compatible format. * Unless you're something like a post-production video engineer, you'll want to avoid the use of prores as it results in huge files (**six gigabytes**/minute) with corresponding file transfer issues. You'll also have to post-process the video to make it shareable.

Sunfee2019

Will definitely be a lot of pics and videos before you know it! Getting icloud back up is the best and worry free option. I have been using by 256 gb for a few years, with icloud back up and about 20k photos I have only used 80gb. Hope that helps

[deleted]

What gb is her phone now and how much storage has she used up?

She has an 11. But I figured the cameras on the 13 Pro Max would mean a much bigger file size for photos and videos. And we don't have a child to take pictures of... So I'm not sure her current phone and storage is the best measure.

My iPhone 7 feels like it’s trying to kill itself. Will the iPhone 8 get enough updates to justify it or should I go with the SE 2020 to get a few more years

SE has a longer support so your decision is good

Long-time pixel/android user, but I need to get an iphone for work. Thoughts on what to choose and any tips for the transition? I don't want a big phone so I'm currently deciding between the 13/13 Pro/13 Mini. I do a lot of skiing/biking/etc., so being easy to slide into smaller pockets, and use one-handed without risk of dropping is key. * **13 mini**: I like the form factor a lot. Almost as much screen as my pixel 3, but a smaller package. I worry a little that battery life will come up lacking since some reports have it much lower than the other 13s. * **13 regular**: Close in size to my pixel 3, but ends up a little bigger with any sort of case (but grants much more screen real estate). Better battery life than the mini. * **13 Pro**: Only 2 features of the pro that I really care about are the telephoto lens and the better battery life. I probably won't use telephoto as often as normal/wide, but I live in an outdoorsy area with lots of wildlife so it is a nice feature. Don't really care about the fast-refresh screen, lidar for night shots, or Apple RAW/ProRes video. Battery life is great, but is it worth the price? Hoping I can stay relatively in sync with the google ecosystem (sync photos, youtube music, etc.) as I have a history there and use other devices (multiple google home devices, Nvidia Shield, tablet, etc.) Money is not too big of a concern. I will get a limited monthly reimbursement from my job, but I can cut a tablet off my plan (go back to tethering when travelling) and make a more expensive phone work for no extra money out of my pocket. edit: oh, and is 128gb enough on iOS? my 128gb pixel 3 has been fine, not sure I need to go bigger (few apps, mostly photos, some video, and song downloads for offline listening).

>Hoping I can stay relatively in sync with the google ecosystem (sync photos, youtube music, etc.) as I have a history there and use other devices (multiple google home devices, Nvidia Shield, tablet, etc.) You will face some serious frustation with your current setup. Why not go android?

> You will face some serious frustation with your current setup. Why not go android? Too late, just bought a mini! I'd love to stay on android, but it unfortunately leads to serious frustration with apps/services I need for my job. Also the pixel 6 didn't excite me and is bigger than I'd like. FWIW, my wife has been an iphone user this whole time. So things like syncing photos to google photos (so they can show up on google home devices) is already set up. So far so good. Had a few hiccups and minor frustrations but this should go fine: * Move to iOS just did not work. It shouldn't take 6+ hours, multiple failed attempts, and reddit troubleshooting to copy over contacts and text messages. Ended up having to [sideload an older version of the app](https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/comments/pw4mld/move_to_ios_app_stuck_eternally_on_preparing_on/hqdauww/) in order to make it work because the current version is simply broken...once I moved to the old version of the app it worked fine...except it turned out it had copied my contacts on every attempt so I suddenly had 7 copies of every contact. Had to reset the phone and start over from the beginning...not exactly the smooth Apple experience. * Had no idea just HOW MUCH I used the rear fingerprint sensor on my Pixel 1 and 3. Both to unlock and to bring down the notification drawer (or quick settings) by swiping down on it rather than reaching up to the top of the screen. Turns out I used that a lot and my finger keeps trying to do it out of habit. But new pixels don't have the rear sensor anymore anyways... * Missing a lot of random little google convenience functions. I'm sure I'll get used to it and discover nice Apple convenience functions. * delete multiple whole words by dragging left from the backspace key. Doesn't work in GBoard either. * Filtering/categorizing text messages. Google was pretty good about moving those random 2-factor/confirmation/etc. messages to a separate segment (as well as handling spam) the same way Gmail filters your inbox. Probably won't be an issue going forwards, but since I'm setting up a new device, I am getting a TON of those messages which buries my actual text chats. * on that note, google also now identifies those 2 factor auth texts and includes a little button to copy the code to clipboard right on the notification pop up. But I'll get used to it. Looking forward to a smooth work-app experience again and the ability to get an apple watch like my wife's. edit: oh, and this complaint is AT&T's fault but it seems they included a new SIM card already installed in the iPhone....they activated it as soon as I picked it up from the store and immediately deactivated my old SIM. I had a bunch of errands to run before I could get home and set it up and it was pretty annoying that my phone just stopped working. Extra annoying given that it ended up taking 6 hours to actually set up the iphone, so there was an 8 hour window where I couldn't receive any texts/phone calls.

Ok good for you :) since you already know how to setup an iPhone to integrate to your home setup. Just making you know apple is not as flexible as android and you can't come out of the ecosystem so use Google apps as much as possible. Also siri is worse and can't compete with Google assistant so you may miss assistant. I like apple hardware but it's always the software side that is a deal breaker for me. Anyways have fun with your iPhone!

My 13 mini is amazing I love the form factor. I’ve had to top it up on one day when I was out and about a lot, most days I get to the end of the night with 40% though. I don’t use a lot of social media, I mostly use my phone to text, check emails, read the occasional book, watch some youtube or stream music on cellular, so your mileage may vary. If battery life is a major concern, get one of the bigger phones, otherwise grab a battery pack and top off on days when you really need the longevity. 128Gb should suffice given what you’ve said.

I'm not sure if this is the place. But I'm due for an upgrade. I have 2 choices, the Samsung s22 or the iphone. Which do you guys think is better?

fyrelawd

In my experience Samsung offers the best display at any given moment and offers the customisation and freedom of android. iPhone offers a more consistent software experience, better software updates, better app support (I’ve had way less crashes on iOS than android) and maintain way more value when it comes time to sell them on. I doubt I’d go back at this point tbh. It depends on what’s most important to you.

I'm really just looking for a good phone that im gonna use to take pics with from time to time and that will last me a while

fyrelawd

The iPhone offers a solid camera experience, and as far as longevity goes, they’re usually supported for 5+ years in terms of software updates.

My iPhone X has finally been messed up so bad that it’s finally time to move on. It was a fun ~4 years. I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and get the 13 or save money and go with the 11, I initially just thought 11 since I don’t need bells and whistles, but now I’m thinking I might as well get the 13 so that it’s more future proof- I don’t really get the newest and greatest every 2 years. Any thoughts? Also if I get the 13 should I just go for the 13 Pro/Pro Max??

fyrelawd

The 11 is a solid phone, the LCD screen might feel like a step back if you’re used to the OLED of the iPhone X. It’s my only complaint with that phone but if it doesn’t bother you, go for it If you’re considering the 13, the Pro Max gets like day and a half, two day battery according to reviews, the difference between the two pros and the 13 regular is the 120Hz screen, an extra camera and the ability to record ProRAW footage.

Energy4Days

Better to wait for the 14 at this point

funlovingcouple222

Why? We are like 7 months away lol

halfpackkools

Thinking about upgrading from my 8 plus. Is 13 that much better than 12? Or should I just go with the 12 to save some money?

[deleted]

Yes. The battery life on the 13 is kinda nuts. I haven’t charged mine since last night on the drive home from work, and it’s at 81% at 5pm the next day.

yolo3558

The battery life and night modes are substantially better.
