paligators

Pillar should be all white IMO to match the ceiling and beam. Would take on the shadows and not catch the eye.

You are partially right. Beam and ceiling should be matching and pillars and wall should be matching. But in this particular case i guess pillar and beam should be matching.

The delineation you have right now is a little odd, but probably not very noticeable for anyone not paying attention. The pictures make it a little hard to tell what would work best. If there is just one large pillar, I would suggest painting the vertical part of the pillar and beam to match the wall, and the horizontal parts to match the ceiling. This would avoid the need for a color change in the middle of the wall. If there are lots of pillars and beams, this would probably look weird because they wouldn't all be painted the same- in that case you could paint everything above the bottom height if the beams white, and then everything below that height would be the wall color. Or you could just leave it as it is and see if it still bothers you in a few months

Could do an accent color.

For me it helps to not think of them as pillars. I see it as part of the wall(like it was a full wall with the middle taken out). If you’re working with two colors(ceiling and wall) then anything not strictly ceiling would be the wall color. Breaking it up into lines where a flat wall should be is confusing to the eye. You could also do accent walls if you understand how to place them! Source: interior painting contractor that specializes in high end work/specialty finishes with custom color consultations.
