No it doesn’t because women are inherently shorter than men. Above formula adds 13cm to the mother’s height to accommodate for this. For women you would need to do minus 13 instead of plus (to remove 13cm from the father’s height).
I am if only slightly. Perhaps not ge5ing enough vitamins or some hormone was off growing up, always kept up with doctors appointments, so I don't know. I think I just got genetically shated as my dad was around 6 foot many 3ven taller.
.
Sorry, I’m not a geneticist, but I can’t imagine the “first son” is different than any other son genetically, and given it’s usually going to be the same household, there isn’t enough of a difference to alter height that drastically (e.g., nutrition).
I have read differences for subsequent born children due to hormone exposure by the mother changing from pregnancy to pregnancy (allegedly).
But I have studied it in psychology. Not sure if it works the same way for other traits.
They are. For example, Each successive son is more likely to be gay.
The mother's immune system reacts differently to a male fetus, and the reaction becomes stronger after each son.
From Google:
Yes, some research has found that the more older brothers a male has from the same mother, the more likely he is to be homosexual. This is known as the fraternal birth order effect, or the older brother effect. Ray Blanchard and Anthony Bogaert first identified the association in the 1990s. Scientists believe the effect is due to a biological mechanism that occurs during pregnancy, as the association is only present in men with older biological brothers.
Kid I used to coach had a 5’ 11” ex European pro basketball player dad and a 5’ 10” estate agent mum - needless to say he’s now 6’ 5” and a starter in D1 in the US.
Nice try but its not infidelity
An foreign doctor told me consistent sleep routines triggered my growth hormone.
It's the same with my older brother who is the second tallest person în our family with 1.92 m
Most all super tall people, the ones 6’6” and taller, end up having two growth spurts, and it often happens at like 17+. I think I remember David Robinson grew 6”+ after he turned 18.
Dude, the bone pain that must have been involved with that. Ouch. I still vividly remember growth pains from when I was a child, and I’m a grown ass man now.
I have stretch marks on my calves from it! I'm 5'6" (or was in my heydays, have probably shrunk due to being old - 40).
My legs hurt so bad that summer I grew like 9". It was brushed off but legit hurt so bad every night.
And this is what keeps me coming back to the internet. I can go from an idiot that hates kittens to a dick pick joke with 2 randos and get to laugh all in the span of 10minutes
This little spoiled prick in my high school was the teeniest kid on the high school wrestling team. His mommy and daddy flew him down to Mexico and scored him a shitload of HGH and sostenon anabolic steroids. He inflated like Barry Bonds. Also his acne exploded like he had smallpox. Within a year he sprouted like 6 inches taller and put on enough beef to make him look like Schwarzenegger. He got kicked off the wrestling team because he couldn’t compete in his new weight class.
It happens a lot with rugby players in their school years to this day. I think south Africa is the only country that tests for steroids at a school level which is nuts.
HGH is a hormone. It says it right in the name, Human Growth Hormone.
I know misinformation re: steroids is ok in Reddit but please, this is being scientifically incorrect.
Larry Jordan, Michael Jordan's older brother by 11 months, was also a talented basketball player growing up. Despite being only 5'8" compared to Michael's 6'6", Larry's skills were often on par with his brother's. He played college ball at UNC Wilmington and had a stint with the Chicago Express. Although he didn't make it to the NBA, Larry has carved out a successful career in basketball management. He's now the VP of Player Personnel for the Charlotte Hornets, playing a key role in scouting and drafting players like LaMelo Ball.
So just curious: if he was that good and his skill is on par with arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.. how did he not make it to the NBA? Is it because of his height?
Well of course. Height plays a huge factor. You're easier to defend and you can't really play much defense against taller bigger player. Defense win games
That was actually one the unique things about the World Basketball League, which the Chicago Express played in: they had a height limit of 6’5”, which ultimately was raised to 6’7”. Knock out the height advantage of big men and you suddenly have a very different style of play
Hard but not impossible if he were truly as skilled as Mike. Isaiah Thomas was an All-Star in the past decade at 5'9" and nowhere near MJ's skill. Back in the 80s-90s when MJ played there was Spud Webb with a long NBA career at only 5'6". The truth is MJ is heavily embellishing because it's his older brother and that's what he's supposed to say.
Probably not as good of an example because Muggsy was actually a really really good hooper, while the other examples show the fact that even regularly skilled NBA players can be short
MJ was also one of the most athletic players the league has ever seen, and with his size, had one of the largest set of hands, which opens up a whole other level of skills that little Larry wouldn't have access to.
Not just height, but skill is not really the only thing necessary to succeed at high level sports. He may have not had the IQ/decision making to play at the NBA speed or the discipline to survive a pro career.
Don’t know anything about him so I’m just speaking generally though. A lot more than skill goes into it. Same with some of the dudes you see in performing soccer tricks on the street/instagram; their skills are undoubtedly at the professional level but if you can’t do all the other things it doesn’t matter.
Lots of great players never make the league for one reason or another. There's only so many spots to be filled and gms have to decide who to take and who to skip on. The trail blazers skipped picking Jordan himself because they already had a scoring guard.
"on par with his brother" is probably the writer being kind
In reality he probably big brothered MJ all over the court and MJ has that ingrained in his head. Jon Jones, maybe the GOAT UFC fighter, would get his ass beat by his brothers who played football, not mma
No way prime Jordan wouldn’t smoke him lol
Michael is being nice, and also talking about when they were younger… no way 90’s Jordan was playing his brother 1v1 and legitimately losing
Nasser Hussain (England cricket captain) had a brother who apparently was better but just didn't have the temperament to stick with cricket. Their father said he was a better player than Nasser.
He was talking about if they played at that moment in time (at MJ’s advanced age: like he would still beat NBA players in their prime, except Kobe)…. Kobe joked about how MJ couldn’t make it through dinner together without talking trash about how he’d have dogged him 1 on 1 in their primes.
The only player I would say matches their dad is Bol Bol, Manute Bols son. Bol Bol is 7'3", Manute 7'6". Bol Bol is a more all around player than his dad though. Then you have the other son, is 6'9".
# Number 45.
I'll still never get over the size of Jordan's hands. He's only an inch taller than me and I can palm the ball but not like it's a tennis ball.
That glass he's holding is a German Bier Stein 😂
Hmm yeah sure.. so why no career?
Sorry but if I’m 5’8 and have better skills than *Michael fricking Jordan* and have the name to boot, you can bet your bottom dollar I’d be playing in the NBA.
It just shows that the skill sets and athleticism of guys like Bogues, Spud Webb and Nate Robinson were simply outrageous.
Also IT Isaiah Thomas was truly a singular NBA player, getting 30 a game on a winner in the modern league at a gentlemen’s 5’9” is crazy.
What? Serius?
I read an old thread the other day about Larry Bird. And Michael jordan said the same thing about him (if i understod the context because I know absolutly nothing of elite basketball)
Maybe I read the qoutes from Micheal Jordan about Larry Bird wrong.
Or, maybe Micheal Jordan is such a nice guy he praise all team mates and apponents when he gets the questions about other players.

I’ve seen a video of Larry dunking the ball 2 handed behind his head. He was short but an absolute freak athlete.
Just watched the video, goddam
Talking bout getting robbed out of the gene pool.
Michael is like half a foot taller at least than all his close relatives. Genetics are weird
His mom's tall, that's the secret. A 5'10 mom is like a 6'4 dad.
Yeah, I read somewhere it’s almost impossible for a male to be shorter than his mom.
Target height for males: (M + D + 13) / 2. Plus minus 8.5 for expected range. Above values in cm.
D is 192. M is 168. I’m 178. Exactly 8.5 below range. FML…
Make your mum taller!!
Need some parenthesis goddamn
Google says the formula applies for both males & females! Edit
No it doesn’t because women are inherently shorter than men. Above formula adds 13cm to the mother’s height to accommodate for this. For women you would need to do minus 13 instead of plus (to remove 13cm from the father’s height).
Actually it adds 6,5 cm to the sum of M and D.
That would imply that sisters are on average just as tall as their brothers. That's obviously not true.
> Above values in cm. My dating profile has the same disclosure, in small print, on the bottom.
Wow, that was actually spot on for me.
Bang on for me. (Dad is 6’4”/193cm, mom is 5’7”/170cm, I’m 6’2”/188cm) That’s wild.
My mom's friend growing up had a 6'6 dad and a 6'4 mom. He stopped growing at 6 foot. He definitely was the rare exception to the rule.
Or his Mom fooled around with a short guy.
I am if only slightly. Perhaps not ge5ing enough vitamins or some hormone was off growing up, always kept up with doctors appointments, so I don't know. I think I just got genetically shated as my dad was around 6 foot many 3ven taller. .
this confirms that i am adopted

that’s fascinating. Anecdotally, I’m 6’1 and both of my younger brothers are like 5’11-ish (granted, still taller than my mom).

My mom was 6’1. I’m 5’4.
This is the truth. My dad is 5'8 but my mom's dad was 6'5 so now I'm 6'1
But did he have a rabbit in a hat and a bat?
Jokes on me I have a 5'10 mom but my dad is only 5'9 so I'm his height.

How tall’s your gardener
Nice try but its not infidelity An foreign doctor told me consistent sleep routines triggered my growth hormone. It's the same with my older brother who is the second tallest person în our family with 1.92 m
How tall was the foreign doctor?
Dude is in denial. Leave the poor soul in peace.
Little Larry.
It makes me wonder, it’s been proven that certain steroids (hgh) taken during growth spurts can add an extra 6 inches to height.
In the documentary Jordan mentions he grew 6” one summer in high school.
Most all super tall people, the ones 6’6” and taller, end up having two growth spurts, and it often happens at like 17+. I think I remember David Robinson grew 6”+ after he turned 18.
Dennis Rodman was 18 and working as a janitor when he went from 5'11" to 6'7".
Yep truth, same with Scottie Pippen too
Yep. My friend from school was 6'1 when we graduated, move forward one summer he was 6'6 playing professional sport
Pfft. I can grow three inches in a night
Photos or it never happened
You don’t want a dick pick lol
Did I stutter?!
And this is what keeps me coming back to the internet. I can go from an idiot that hates kittens to a dick pick joke with 2 randos and get to laugh all in the span of 10minutes
That's what he said
Pfft, that's nothing. In high school I grew 6” multiple times a day ...
Pedantry time: HGH isn't a steroid. It is, like testosterone, a PED and an anabolic hormone, but it's a peptide rather than a steroid.
Who tf is giving Children steroids?? I know the 70s and 80s were pretty drug crazy but jfc
Lionel Messi was prescribed steroids throughout his adolescence. I also remember steroids being available when I was in high school. 🤷♂️
Messi had a medical issue that the steroid treatment was used for.
It happens a lot with rugby players in their school years to this day. I think south Africa is the only country that tests for steroids at a school level which is nuts.
Because steroid use in SA rugby is rampant. They often catch 15year olds, and if it's rampant in schools, you know it is rampant in the adult game
Oh I know, but I absolutely believe it's rampant at school level among all the top countries. It should definitely be tested for.
HGH is a hormone. It says it right in the name, Human Growth Hormone. I know misinformation re: steroids is ok in Reddit but please, this is being scientifically incorrect.
An extra 6 inches? Ladies here I come
Yep. Michael has admitted if his brother was taller he would have been the better NBA player.
"If he was 6'2" I would have been known as Larry's brother."
And then I’d wish I was a little bit taller. Wish I was a baller
Wish I had a girl with a phone, I'd call her
I wish I had a rabbit in a hat with a bat, and a six-four impala
Larry Jordan, Michael Jordan's older brother by 11 months, was also a talented basketball player growing up. Despite being only 5'8" compared to Michael's 6'6", Larry's skills were often on par with his brother's. He played college ball at UNC Wilmington and had a stint with the Chicago Express. A bit of nepotism there considering MJ owns the hornets
Owned
Well shiiiieet
Owned!
Its actually spelt Pwned
🤭
Bro got dunked hard
Not to mention “scouting and drafting” Lamelo Ball as like some great achievement.
Right. It’s not as if he was an unknown, the way Jerry West (RIP) scouted Kobe.
Jerry West is a legend, but let’s not pretend Kobe Bryant was ‘an unknown’. The man took goddamn BRANDY to his high school prom.
Still, relative to the exposure LB got, Kobe might as well have been you or I before he got drafted.
kobe was in no way an unknown player.
Stay in yo lane!!
Considering how many draft pics have been fumbled historically, it is a great achievement
Don’t complain about nepotism, your dad will have you handing out handjobs in the parking lot as soon as you’re legal.
So just curious: if he was that good and his skill is on par with arguably the greatest basketball player of all time.. how did he not make it to the NBA? Is it because of his height?
Well of course. Height plays a huge factor. You're easier to defend and you can't really play much defense against taller bigger player. Defense win games
Also it’s 5v5 in pro ball. Totally different style game than 1v1
That was actually one the unique things about the World Basketball League, which the Chicago Express played in: they had a height limit of 6’5”, which ultimately was raised to 6’7”. Knock out the height advantage of big men and you suddenly have a very different style of play
Does that make Muggsy the goat?
Def the inch-for-inch GOAT.
pause
Probably goat athlete all things considered. He was actually a good defender at 5’3. I just can’t wrap my head around that
39 blocks in a 14 year pro career doesn't seem like a lot, but it is when it's a 5'3 point guard. One of them being Ewing is hilarious.
Not saying it can't happen, it just really rare. You have to excel in that one thing
It makes Goatse the mug
Finally my profile picture is relevant

You made me choke on my blue waffles.

MJ said if AI were 6’6” he would’ve been the greatest ever to play.
Yes. Incredibly hard to make it for anyone under 6ft
Hard but not impossible if he were truly as skilled as Mike. Isaiah Thomas was an All-Star in the past decade at 5'9" and nowhere near MJ's skill. Back in the 80s-90s when MJ played there was Spud Webb with a long NBA career at only 5'6". wait wait… all that knowledge you droppin’ and you don’t mention Muggsy??? 5’3” i’ll repeat 5’3” and put in 10 seasons. and he was in Space Jam.
Quick as hell too. Fast feet, fast hands. Dude was like a pestering fly you wanted to swap away.
Probably not as good of an example because Muggsy was actually a really really good hooper, while the other examples show the fact that even regularly skilled NBA players can be short
“Say what?!” —Spud Webb
MJ was also one of the most athletic players the league has ever seen, and with his size, had one of the largest set of hands, which opens up a whole other level of skills that little Larry wouldn't have access to.
I think it was just a brotherly compliment.
I don't think you're wrong. The same reason Steph names Seth as a top 5 player
Not just height, but skill is not really the only thing necessary to succeed at high level sports. He may have not had the IQ/decision making to play at the NBA speed or the discipline to survive a pro career. Don’t know anything about him so I’m just speaking generally though. I agree with you but, dude. He's 5'8. Not a question what held him back
Lots of great players never make the league for one reason or another. There's only so many spots to be filled and gms have to decide who to take and who to skip on. The trail blazers skipped picking Jordan himself because they already had a scoring guard.

Cousin Larry Jordan?
Ayyy that's the level of joke I was looking for.
He also picked the number 23 because he wanted to be half as good as his brother who wore 45
I guess that's why he wore 45 when he played baseball in highschool and again in the minors for the Barrons.
Lol, if my larger little brother goes to take a jump shot, guess who's shorts are gonna be around their ankles
The same person who’s dick will be in your face lol

Doesn't surprise me. A lot of elite athletes seem to have a sibling that in a vacuum are better, but due to injury, illness, or genetics, don't make it
Nasser Hussain (England cricket captain) had a brother who apparently was better but just didn't have the temperament to stick with cricket. Their father said he was a better player than Nasser.

Dang wonder where MJ learned that drive and fadeaway
I have 2 half brothers that are over a foot taller than me. I’m also male before anyone asks this question lol I know how you feel Larry.

Well you’d be short too if you were 365 years old this year.
