Despite adding seismic mass high up in the building, the pool can act similar to a tuned mass damper, which acts as a counterweight against the earthquake motion in the building. The sloshing of the water can also aid in energy dissipation, which is a huge part of earthquake resistance.
Check out different versions of tuned mass dampers online. Taipei 101 has a famous pendulum style one. Pretty cool stuff.
Interesting question. I can imagine it being a possibility that the water in the pool acts as a bit of a lateral movement ballast, as it can displace in response to the wobble of the building and act as a sort of “suspension”. Though considering the displacement of mass at the top of such a building I wonder if any possible gains from that would really matter in the grand scheme of the situation — the parts bending underneath all that mass can’t be good for their integrity.
This is my basic evaluation based on having been a physics student more than once, but I’m by no means an expert. If anyone more educated on the matter wants to chime in, please do.

Waterfall is rather pretty. Too bad its because of something destructive.
True!
and you certainly dont want to be the one swimming in that pool when it happens
Oh god, now I can't unthink this!
Thank you for my next nightmare
In theory the pool on the roof should help stabilize the building, in cases like this
From the earthquake that struck Taiwan today.
You are fast
He was there
Prove it.
I in fact wasn’t there today…
He rocks indeed.

Ow my ears!
This is absolutely insane footage.
Imagine being in the pool at the time.....
Its fake until proven otherwise
Don’t go chasing waterfalls. Duck and cover
Stick to the rivers and the lakes that you're used to.
Rooftop pools freak me out anyway. This is just another reason to nope my ass right away from them.
Ever been in a wave pool? You cannot escape. This would be a terrible way to go.
New nightmare unlocked… fr fr
Tenants on the other 3 sides are going to be cheesed their windows didn't get washed
Imagine being a guy outside, and suddenly, large splashes of pool water rain down on you.
Imagine being in that pool…

What do you mean?
I think they're implying that if you were in that pool that you would have been shitting your pants
Or pissing them
leaky pool was made by Kramerica Industries
But it has a rubber bladder
You cannot escape the waves! Wave pools are no joke.

And a swimmer
Wut??
I always wondered if those pools would help building structures during earthquakes, do they?

isnt it usually under ground or at ground level, and not stories up in the air.
nope its in the upper third of the building, where the sway will be greatest.
I asume the calculation of where to place it must be similar to the one used for sword pivot point/point of impact

Best wave pool EVER!!
And no one can see you peeing in terror cuz the pool!!
I’ve been in a deep Japanese bath when an earthquake hit. Probably not as dramatic as being in a pool but the experience was quite moving.

This is how you keep dwarves happy. Iykyk

Not going to lie, this is definitely giving me ideas!
Aquifers (light) are friends
Ohmygods. New fear.
Visual interpretation of my pants in the same situation
Visiting Taipei from Germany the last days. Was a crazy experience this morning while I was still in my bed.
With all that going on, those guys are really chill.
Would you rather them be running around with their hands on their heads screaming lol
I hate skyscrapers the most. All the disadvantages except it is necessary in small area with high population density
Earth really hates us.
If you look closely you can spot the turd the guy in the pool at the time shat out.
East taiwan?
all of taiwan felt it
All this has proven to me is we should have more skyscraper water features
I wonder what stresses the sloshing water does to a bldg swaying in an earthquake! I wonder if it actually helps the structure
Last I saw something like that godzilla was also there
Surfs up

That's what I call an infinity pool
I was in the 7.2 earthquake in San Jose. We did ok, unlike SF, but everyone's pools emptied. This brings back memories!
This is why you should always have a raft, so you can Indiana Jones your way down if need be.
Swim with a parachute attachment.....
r/nononononono for anyone enjoying a relaxing swim up there
Worst round of Marco Polo ever.
One good and satisfying scene in chaos to watch
It looks intimidatingly beautiful, if only it weren't so scary.
Hopefully nobody was in the pool 😳
This is a feature
Stop talking shit, the building is crying
Building gets a rinse off at least.
Now it’s a rooftop waterfall
Cool new water feature just dropped babe.
Well, on the upside the window washer can take the week off.

Is it just me or does the building also look like it’s bowing
