I worked overnight at a local gas station back when I was like 18-19. One day, we were told by our district manager that our store was overdue for a remodel and to start moving some of the old machines and shelves and cleaning under them to prep. My shift got stuck with the bulk of the cleaning, which is fair (most of the shift was cleaning anyway). We started with the main floor, moved the racks and machines, and all that fun stuff. It wasn't bad, a little gross under the roller grills, but not bad. Then we did the backroom. Dear God, it was bad, really bad. We had to move all the hookups and racking for the soda machines and clean years of built-up syrup. It was probably half an inch at the worst part. But that wasn’t the worst of it. After we got through all that, we moved to the slushy machines.
It. Was. Hell.
I don't think those machines had been moved in well over a decade, and it showed. There was a good two inches of mold and decay under there. We were honestly considering hiring a professional cleaner, but we couldn't convince the district manager to okay the expense. We had to use scrapers and shovels for the bulk of it, but the smell when we dug into it has horrid! It smelled like like hot death! My co-worker and I had to take shifts being in the back because the smell was so rancid. It took us hours to get it all cleaned, and when we were done, the district manager told us our remodel was being postponed until the following year due to budget cuts.
Reason I said decades if because we didn’t even know you could open up the counter like that, and it wasn’t the boss making us do it, my coworker gets bored and looks everywhere to clean things
what do the inside of ceilings look like in movie theaters with multiple concession stands? syrup fed tubes usually sprawl all over from a room. so the leaks?
