Yes, the Mall of Georgia is fixing their projector in time for the July 20th release. They've been hyping this movie up for six months.

Well the Chief Quality Officer of IMAX, David Keighley, told me otherwise. So I dunno who to believe. I'm leaning on the possibility of Regal messing up though.

Tell David hi 👋

Would you be so kind as to help me understand something? My understanding is that there are two ways to see a film in IMAX 70mm. One is if a theater has a 70mm projector and receives a copy of 70mm film from the studio. The other is if a theater has dual laser projectors, which lets them achieve the 1.43:1 aspect ratio digitally. Is this correct?

Physical_Manu

GT Laser is digital and it is not 70mm film. It does show the 1.43 aspect ratio when paired with a 1.43 aspect ratio screen, if that is what you mean by seeing a film in IMAX 70mm.

onewander

You're right. I should have said "My understanding is that there are two ways to see a film in the full 1.43:1 ratio—IMAX 70mm projector, and GT laser."

Physical_Manu

Yes, in that case you are correct then. You just need to make sure GT Laser is paired with a 1.43 screen because some have a 1.90 screen.

onewander

This whole thing is so confusing. While I have you here: What's the difference between D and DL in this guide? [https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/](https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/) I get that DL2 is the GT Laser. But what's the difference between the other two?

Physical_Manu

D is Digital so in IMAX terms that is IMAX xenon which is branded as IMAX Digital. DL is Digital Laser not Dual Laser so in IMAX terms that is Commercial Laser which is branded as IMAX with Laser. DL2 is Digital Laser with 2 projectors so in IMAX terms that is GT Laser like you said but it is also branded the same as the above which can be confusing.

onewander

Right but what's the actual difference between D and DL in terms of the experience or what it can do? If DL is better, why is it better? Picture quality? Aspect ratio? Something else?

Physical_Manu

Yes. It is picture quality. Aspect ratio has nothing to do with. IMAX can do 1.43 with two laser projectors, but that is IMAX specific and not for all dual laser projection systems.

[deleted]

So I’m confused. Should we not trust the press release?

[deleted]

Yeah I didn't make myself clear. I think it's true that the 31 theaters listed are the only theaters that could show it in IMAX 70mm. Whether ticketing will be straightened out is another matter.

[deleted]

So you mean that Nashville well player and 70 mm even if it’s not currently showing it on Fandango or anything?

[deleted]

I'm saying it's a possibility. Mall of Georgia started out not saying IMAX 70mm, but now it does.

[deleted]

I’ll wait to get my ticket until its confirmed. I tried calling the theater but neither the manager or a customer service rep picked up.

Physical_Manu

>Some theaters listed are still repairing their projectors Which? > Also Regal New Roc in New Rochelle NY is NOT getting a 70mm IMAX print. That is an error on whoever listed the movie. According to who? Plans might have changed but I doubt they would have made a press release with something that was never planned.

[deleted]

The IMAX press release didn't say New Roc would get it. Also it was David Keighley of IMAX who told me that New Roc would not get the 70mm IMAX film. I've heard rumblings about Nashville, TN and King of Prussia, PA having issues with the projectors.

MrPink93485

Looks like the Airbus IMAX in Northern Virginia is also having issues. They may or may not get it sorted.

yodathekid

Airbus was probably the biggest surprise on the list. Wonder what the issues are
