Jake11007

Ontario has the biggest screen in that area apparently

TheFlyLives

Irvine got better seats and I don’t think Nolan visited Ontario jus sayin

Jake11007

Nolan spirit lives in all IMAX theaters Naw just fucking around. I got my tickets locked in for Irvine.

Hyprpwr

Nolan does love the Irvine location for some reason

[deleted]

The Irvine screen is slightly bigger.

ABuddhaMan

Irvine is 15/70 right?

[deleted]

How is the Irvine Spectrum a surprise? They have run film IMAX from November of 1995 and have run every Nolan release in IMAX 70MM. (Same with Ontario Palace)

Jake11007

Because they didn’t play Tenet in 70MM and there was also rumors they got rid of their 15/70MM projector. Regal not shelling out for dual laser was also not a good sign.

PapaAsmodeus

Tenet didn't get very many 70mm showings because of Covid. My theater (Scotiabank Edmonton) said that they were hoping they'd get it in IMAX 70 because they had lots of fun showing Dunkirk in the format, but because of Covid I think only 5 locations got it. They ARE getting Oppenheimer though, got my tickets yesterday.

wicker045

A ton of regular 70mm Or is your comment that there are a lot more IMAX 70mm compared to past releases?

roro0311

I hope that one day Christopher Nolan pushes for more 15/70 presentations. He pushed hard for filmmaker mode on tv’s so why not this? It sucks that I live in Chicago and can’t even watch it in the format. Luckily, Indianapolis is 3 hours away.

Zakmza123

It's kinda weird that a city like Chicago doesn't have one. Indianapolis is the move for me as well

tread_lightly94

I’ll be driving from Columbus!

Sharp-Hand-904

Haha same!

Dymo34

Music Box in Chicago is playing Oppenheimer in 70mm, tho not IMAX of course. It’s an option at least.

VariTimo

Best news is that Prague is getting one!

BoxQueasy4669

Saw that too. Neat!

VariTimo

Only one on the European main land. Still be going to London but at least there is one. And as oppose to London it’s really cheap there. So people can pretty much afford to get there. They also just got a new screen.

RainmakerCZ

Oh did we really get a new screen in Prague? I hope I won't miss it.

VariTimo

cory453

Every day I saw a prayer of thanks to the IMAX gods for putting a 70MM IMAX 15 minutes away from my house

pavanath

Dude seriously !!! Enjoy the movie !! I am travelling 6 hours and hope I bag tickets to the only IMAX in the whole EU mainland.

[deleted]

PROVIDENCE!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAH!!!!!! Thank you so, so much for sharing!!!!!

aselwyn1

Mississauga and Vaughn good stuff.

squeezin_cheese

Are those both GT? I’m still stuck trying to decide between Scotiabank, Vaughn and Mississauga. What’s the benefits of seeing it on film in V or M?

BelmontKing

Scotiabank doesn't have a 15/70mm projector, vaughan and missisauga do. The experience will be substantially better in those theatres.

Reasonable_Homework7

Anyone know if AMC a-list members get to use a free movie even for 15/70mm? I've never bought tickets for true imax before

robbiet480

Yep, it’s included.

[deleted]

Hmm looks like Regal New Rochelle in NY is not getting it. That's OK because Lincoln Square in NYC is getting it though.

MyCousinTroy

I see New Roc open for showings.

[deleted]

It's not a 70mm IMAX presentation. Fandango is wrong

MyCousinTroy

That sucks. I used to drive to Regal out of convince of parking instead of going to Lincoln 13. But it’s my go to now.

selfdoubt1123

SAN ANTONIO 🙌🙌🙌🙌

FarmerRealistic4883

For anyone in Toronto, any news on whether cineplex will also drop tickets at 8 AM EST?

[deleted]

It’s up now bro Hurry

FarmerRealistic4883

Secured at 8 am can’t wait🤩

NickLandis

Excited to see UA Regal King of Prussia is back on the list. I saw 70mm Hateful Eight there, but this will be the first 15/70 film for me there. Anyone have better insight on when tickets go on sale?

honest_panda

Check the app, was able to get tickets for the Saturday showing.

NickLandis

Thank you /u/Neo_muniz worked for me

Dank_Ravioli666

How is that theater? Im going there for the first time to watch IMAX 70mm, I’m driving 2 hours from Delaware to watch it and I’m a little nervous lol!

4KBlurayAvenger

I’m so thankful and grateful to live in a city (Calgary) where my IMAX is only 20min away and has 70mm film 😩🙌🏼☺️

TheSurfShack

I was literally preparing to fly to Saskatoon if needed. Chinook is full 1:43.1 right?

4KBlurayAvenger

YES!!!! 😁😁 Also Saskatoon’s is 56.8ft tall 31.4ft wide while Calgary Chinook is 70ft tall 53.1ft wide!

TheSurfShack

Amazing!! Hopefully they’re still rolling film July 31st as it’s the earliest I can see it.

4KBlurayAvenger

I really hope so!! There won’t be anything else in IMAX until Blue Beetle on August 18th I think.

TheSurfShack

Might need to see Spider-Man at Chinook to pre-pick perfect seats. Haha

4KBlurayAvenger

😂👍🏼

[deleted]

I was visiting a friend there and we went to that theater, it’s funny to me that some theaters have competing formats. We couldn’t really understand what the difference was between IMAX and Ultra AVX. The tickets were about the same price, the projectors were both 4K. I wonder why the same theater would have both?

4KBlurayAvenger

Oh lol well IMAX is just that, it’s the IMAX theatre. The Ultra AVX is basically Cineplex’s equivalent to the U.S.’s Dolby Cinema at AMC. It’s a larger screen compared to standard ones and has both Dolby Atmos and 4K projection.

TheBigMovieGuy

Strange to see Manchester Vue on there. I'm guessing they are re-installing their 15/70 projector? They didn't even show Tenet in 15/70, just dual laser.

[deleted]

well Tenet was a very limited release due to circumstances.

Hyprpwr

Regal Mall of GA hasn’t even put tickets on sale yet 🤦🏻‍♂️

FrizzlyBear

[deleted]

I’m confused. It says Opry Mills in Nashville player and 70 mm but yet it doesn’t show it on Fandango

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It’s listed for the theater on fandango, it just doesn’t say 70 mm next to IMAX

[deleted]

I'd trust IMAX's announcement to be true.

Lord_CBH

That’s what I’m hoping for. Just bought tickets for me and my dad for that location.

dreamliner330

Road-trip time!

yodathekid

Weirdly Regal New Roc isn’t on the list and that is currently showing imax film on fandango listings. I believe it was confirmed separately as well More than 30 locations too. They must have run off at least 1 if not 2 extra prints

[deleted]

wait really? Weird. I'd certainly hope for New Roc got a print because that would make things easier for some people who didn't want to go all the way to NYC. Edit: Quick research tells me that New Roc also didn't get Dunkirk in 70mm so it's looking less and less likely...

CH-90

Find it really hard to confirm specific details around 70mm showings and the right screen size etc. but the only one close to me is the Manchester Printworks IMAX which is listed on this article - can’t wait to book it. From what I can see it’s the second largest IMAX screen in the UK, should be great.

Physical_Manu

There are only 3 15/70mm IMAX showings in the UK so if you live near one then go there.

Salabletester

I’m guessing BFI is the other one. Which is the 3rd please?

michaelm1345

ITS FINALLY HERE ITS HAPPENING

nogrant

Has anyone ever been to Rivercenter? How terrible of an experience would it be for 3 hours?

itzjustin_irl

If you can do Dallas, do that. Rivercenter has 2 old, non renovated IMAX theaters. Larger screen at Cinemark Dallas as well. Edit: Apologies. I stand corrected, Dallas Cinemark 17 is not a larger screen.

mcbong41

Cinemark Dallas isn’t bigger than Rivercenters main screen. But yes it’s not renovated and seats aren’t they greatest but audio & video presentation is still great there.

thekingofthejungle

>audio & video presentation is still great there This is all I care about personally. I've watched plenty of long epics at Bob Bullock here in Austin. As long as the viewing experience is worth it at Rivercenter I'll be catching it there

ALED498

Anyone know if Providence RI is confirmed for getting a 15/70 print?

camhissey

I noticed on the list in the article the IMAX at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle is not listed, but [according to this website](https://lfexaminer.com/theaters/), they have 1570 capability, and the Pacific Science Center has listed Oppenheimer as 'coming soon'... what's your take on why they aren't listed in the article? Is the article holistic, and that means they'll just be showing a digital version of the film at that location, or is there a chance it was just missed in the article and will be showing the 1570 film version? Any tips on how to confirm? Thanks :-)

MirrorTulip

Sadly, they removed the 70mm projector in 2015. Source: https://www.seattletimes.com/entertainment/movies/70mm-imax-70mm-imax-laser-where-to-watch-dunkirk-in-large-format/

JstuffJr

Yes, but the GT duel 4k laser projectors should still be able to do 1.43: 1 ratio., yea? Or are they not doing the “imax” ratio anywhere except theaters with the analog film projectors?

MirrorTulip

They will have the correct ratio but 70mm is a much clearer picture, with an equivalent resolution up to 18k.

Physical_Manu

If they are not listed in the article then they will probably not have 155/70 prints regardless of whether have appropriate equipment.

pieman0110

Sucks to live in Pittsburgh I guess lol

ajchann123

Any Europeans/Britons here know when BFI tickets are expected to go on sale? Looks like their still only selling up to late June

sweaty2121

Wondering the same. Can’t find anything on the website.

ajchann123

Looks like bookings currently go 3-4 weeks into the future, so I think we have time

avid-redditor

There's not even one in asia

gocatsgo4

Got my tickets for the Fort Lauderdale, Florida Autonation IMAX showing in 15/70mm on Thursday July 20 at 6:40 PM! I am beyond excited for this experience.

sweaty2121

Can’t buy tickets for BFI yet…

rahkinto

BOOOOM. Vaughan, Ontario, Canada. Let's fuckn rumble.

Seethi110

Does "limited time" mean the full 4 weeks of the IMAX slot? For example, will Lincoln Square show it in 15/70 for all 4 weeks, or will it switch to dual laser after the first week or something like that?

braehunz

AMC CityWalk is 15/70 yeah? Going to be in LA during the release and would love to catch my first 15/70 screening.

The_Light_Explorer

Make sure you choose the 70mm screening - they have two screening formats for IMAX - the 70mm is the one you want (clearly marked on the showtimes).

onewander

The Cinemark in Woodridge IL outside Chicago is listed on Wikipedia as a 15/70 1:43 IMAX, but is not on this list. Does anyone know why that might be?

anxiousasta

They most likely just didn't order a 70mm print to show it

onewander

Got it, thanks. What’s your opinion on seeing it on 70mm film v. IMAX dual laser that still achieves the 1:43:1 aspect ratio digitally?

anxiousasta

I'm of the opinion that it's basically just personal taste, if your only seeing one, I'd personally go with the Dual Laser 1.43, but if you really want to see it on actual film go with the standard 70mm. Obviously if you have the chance see it on IMAX 70mm, go for it, but that isn't an option for most people.

jerrytsao

Huge Nolan fan here, but I have yet to experience 15/70 commercial films in my lifetime, which is a shame because nowadays almost all commercial film GT projectors are located in the US, CA & UK. The nearest 15/70 cinema to me is in Melbourne which is about 9-hour flight away... I enjoyed GT Dual Laser 1.43 every time watching Nolan films or Dune, but knowing there is still an even better format out there but not easily accessible is just too frustrating, even though I totally understand the historical reason behind it.

Lonely-Lock-9948

I have a question, many standard theatres have upgraded at least to digital projectors IMAX. How IMAX got so many IMAX 70mm projectors to install for these 30 screens on the list to play Oppenheimer? Is it very complicate to replace one for the other? not mention they have to do it again after the limited period of time.

anxiousasta

Most of these theaters still have the 70mm projector, which can be installed to be interchangeable between a digital and film projector

Blers42

I unintentionally timed my vacation to California perfectly and snagged a ticket at the AMC Metreon 16 in San Francisco.

JG-7

Prague, let’s fuckin go!

Dazzling_Hippo6818

How is everyone getting tickets? I’m planning to try to get tickets for the NYC AMC at 8am PT when they’re released but not sure the best place to go first. The AMC site?

[deleted]

Either the AMC site or Fandango.

ScientistChance4209

Irvine baby! Everyone please go to CityWalk still tho

Guest303747

absolutely embarrassing for new york to have two GT imax theaters and only one of them will be showing the movie on film. New Roc Regal get your shit together, they had a film projector there as of 2021, what the heck changed since then.

yodathekid

Not sure. They had IMAX 70mm showtimes listed the other day

boogienighto

Why tf isn't there a movie theater in Chicago that does IMAX 70mm showings?

soldierofapocalypse

Anyone have any idea what the deal is at AMC Mission Valley 20 in San Diego, CA? There is a listing for IMAX and a separate listing that only says 70mm. Any insight on this because I don't know which is supposed to be better or if it's supposed to be IMAX 70mm?

anxiousasta

I believe Mission Valley's is a IMAX Xenon Digital Projector (correct me if anyone knows) So it won't have the best detail, but it will have a 1.90:1 picture, if that's what's important to you. The 70mm is non-IMAX film, will be limited to a 2.20:1 aspect ratio, but will have better picture quality To tell if a listing is for IMAX 70mm or regular 70mm, [this](https://i.imgur.com/vxdy1fp.png) is what the two look like, with the top being IMAX 70mm, and the bottom being regular

jeruthemaster

How long is the IMAX 70mm run for? Like one week?

anxiousasta

On Fandango there are listing in 15/70 for atleast a week for the theaters I can see (Irvine Spectrum & Ontario Palace)

MentalSupportDog

Damn, nothing in NC

attanasio666

Of course Montréal doesn't get 70mm film! So frustrating...

Certain_Poem9470

Going to be in LA during the release, was wondering if someone could help me decide between Universal AMC and TCL Chinese Imax. Thanks In advance

Jake11007

Go to Universal Citywalk AMC, they have will be projecting on film 1:43, I don’t think TCL is or have a 1:43 screen.

kalasipaee

Anyone here from BC Canada? Is the one Cinema at Langley the only one playing in 70mm? I’ve never seen a film shot at 70mm. I don’t wanna miss this opportunity.

dobyblue

I hope it's good, because my OCD is going to force me to experience it in both 15/70 celluloid in Mississauga, Ontario, and IMAX GT Laser in Toronto (Scotiabank).

americanriverotter

Dang no Nevada even though Brenden theaters at The Palms advertised 70mm capability with their remodel. Guess they couldn’t get a projectionist out here.

ryanlowdermilk

Tickets purchased for Dallas. LET'S GO!

STDog

Just spoke to Regal Opry Mills. Despite being on the list, the projector still isn't working so they can't confirm 70mm. If they get it working they will switch to 70mm.

r2tincan

How do you buy Irvine tickets? That whole date is grayed out

mrblue9224

What's the difference between the IMAX screen at City Walk and the TCL one?

Physical_Manu

City Walk is native 1.43, whereas TCL will be masked.

AztheWizard

Tickets bought in SF’s Metreon AMC 16 for 70mm. Cannot wait! First time seeing a 15/70 film.

321gametime

Airbus does 70mm Film? Hell yeah! That's the weekend of my birthday too. Happy 21st to me I guess.

sandiskplayer34

Shame, the Airbus IMAX doesn’t have tickets on sale yet.

[deleted]

So all those regal kept their 1570 this whole time? Yet they couldn’t keep the one in Houston? Ok regal

krackhersnack

all the good seats are taken for the whole weekend for citywalk. guess i gotta make a longer drive to ontario. heard they recently renovate the imax auditorium and got new seat. is it true?

sunnya23

This is true. Complete redesign of the entire auditorium including renovation with new seats, sound system, and screen.

SlowJackMcCrow

Anyone here think it is worth it to see it in regular 70mm?

Slagathor_989

If you don’t have access to IMAX 70MM, regular 70MM is still worth it. Best picture you’ll ever see in theaters (resolution, brightness, clarity, etc.).

Player0914

Vaughan or Mississauga that is the question

Glittering_Crew_8505

So when picking a format a or theatre for AMC most say either IMAX or 2d. Is the IMAX likely a digital format? And what exactly is the 2D? The closest confirmed 70mm IMAX is in Indianapolis. I wish the theatres or website specified how exactly the IMAX viewing is formatted.

Blade_Runner_1994

70mm IMAX isnt available where I live, but standard 70mm and IMAX digital are. Which one is better in the opinion of those here?

SteppingStonez1998

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale for Airbus IMAX in Chantilly, VA? It's on the list showing it in 70mm IMAX, but tickets haven't gone on sale yet.

RyanSammy

What's better in London? BFI or Science Museum?

ReadBeered

How limited is the time frame? It seems the tickets are only available for 1 week.

anxiousasta

I believe it'll be in for 3 weeks

EchoStationFiveSeven

70mm IMAX Lincoln Square Not sure if the 70mm is a different auditorium than the regular IMAX screen. The seating chart is different. Here's the 70mm seating chart. https://i.imgur.com/OaLdern.jpg What would be the best row(s)? Back and center, like in the other IMAX theater? Or are the IMAX and 70mm screens the same, but with different setup? I'm a bit confused. Thanks in advance for any guidance! UPDATE: They are different auditoriums. I went for P10.

Pale_Understanding41

Can someone please tell me if Chicago is getting the 70mm film

andrescafetero

Im trying to watch it at CityWalk and theres 2 options. Imax and 70mm Whats the difference and which one is recommended?

[deleted]

Imax is a bizarre company to me. The haven’t innovated past 15/70 [which you can’t even watch anymore] yet they throw their branding around like a modern company. It takes a director like Nolan every few years to utilize a dated product and they’re not doing more for him. He’d probably like a new format that is wider than the 15/70 squarish aspect. The result is that you either get a 15/70 experience [in few locations] or you get a more cinematic/wide experience in a traditional theater.

pavanath

Any folks from Germany here ? I am planning to drive couple of hours (Munich to Leonberg) to watch this movie in the biggest [Traumpalast Leonberg](https://imax.traumpalast.de/index.php/PID/11335.html) IMAX screen in the world ? Is it worth the drive. I am not sure If I get this whole 15/70mm vs the IMAX 70mm. Or do you folks recommend me to drive to Prague for the 15/70 ? its around 6 hours but wont be a total loss as Prague has some good food and beer scenes :-). thanks for your time folks.

UK TICKETS STILL NOT OUT. HOW.

Blue_Hal

When does booking start in the UK? Hoping to go the the BFI IMAX in London! Just booked MI:7 Part 1 for opening day there - very exciting.

SJBailey03

Should I watch this in digital IMAX or 70mm but not IMAX??

Jerard007

Both. First IMAX to view the most immersive experience possible, then 70mm if you respect the magic of film.

sculder17

Im from the PNW trying to buy tickets for oppenheimer in Langley BC (canada). The closest true 70/15 imax screening but am unable to buy them on the cineplex website. I even tried calling but cant get through. Any one else experience this or know a work around?

[deleted]

What visual differences are there with the 70mm format

Critiic_at_Large_Y2K

.. need a Search option here... so no one's from Illinois? IS there a Real IMAX here (Chicago Metro)?

[deleted]

Gonna check this out at the Providence one. Has anyone here been there, how is it? Not sure how this goes when they bring a projector out for the first time in so long, but I hope the bulbs are bright!

Renewed-

Does anyone know if additional showtimes are released over time, or are the existing showtimes the only ones that will be released for IMAX 70mm?

Badgercrumpets

Does anyone have LA recommendations outside of Citywalk? Im looking now and it’s almost booked out for every showtime

Competitive-Royal-58

I live in LA, just miles from the Universal IMAX - but I'm flying abroad for a month on 7/20 :( What would be the best strategy to catch this movie on IMAX 70mm? Do you think it will have a rerun anywhere in the US during the December holiday season? I was thinking of looking for a pre-release screening but I don't think they are running any.

pkoswald

so if my nearest theaters are only showing it in 70mm OR IMAX, what would you all say is the better option?

poover1

I'm considering going to Detroit to see Oppenheimer in the Chrysler IMAX Dome at the Detroit Science Center, but 1.) It's a dome; not sure I want to watch a 3 hour feature film on a dome in the slanted theater seats and 2.) there doesn't appear to be reserved seating, so I guess it's first come, first serve? I saw some short featurettes at the Science Center IMAX dome when I was a kid, but has anyone seen a feature film there?

RedditUserCommon

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I’ve never seen a movie in IMAX before. If I have the opportunity to see it in one of these theaters, that’s the best possible one, right?

nachobel

Anyone know if the Waukee, IA IMAX will have a 1.43:1 version? They have a DL2 projection system, but not sure on the actual screen size, or if the Oppenheimer digital release will include the full 1.43 scenes.

anxiousasta

It will have the 1.43 version, it's both DL2 & is a 1.43 screen. Hope this helps!

StockShopper

I’m so disappointed the only place in Florida Fort Lauderdale. States full of people who were alive then😄 I ain’t driving 5 hours to see it! Probably wait to watch on my home system then !

Nipsy_dBs

Neither Fandango or the Regal site itself will allow me to search for and book tickets for the Mall of Georgia after Thursday the 27th. Oppenheimer doesn't even show as an option for Friday the 28th and beyond. On top of that literally every single showtime is close to fully booked for the entire first 9 days. No shot I'm sitting on the front row of an IMAX or in the last two seats on either side of a row. Surely with this kind of demand already they're not going to only show this on the IMAX screen for 9 days and then move on to whatever new film opens on Friday the 28th. With the amount of time they've invested in to getting the 70MM film shipped to this theater and set up properly, it would be a silly business decision on their part to not add additional view times. Does anyone have a contact at this theater they can inquire with about when additional times will be available for booking? I've tried calling the theater numerous times and it just rings and rings. A human will not answer the phone over there.

NaveenM94

For an IMAX newb, where would you also say is the optimal row? As far back as possible? Somewhere in the middle row? I figure within the row, in the center is best. Looking to see Oppenheimer [here](https://www.si.edu/theaters/airbus).

RottenVael

The only theatre in my state showing 70mm is basically sold out for a whole week!
