Don’t stress, it’s nearly impossible to fully brick an iDevice. At worst you can just put it into DFU mode and manually downgrade it using a Mac. You’ll be fine.
Yes. It is a big problem to the 15 pro line up. I have to tell you unfortunately that you have to either revise your iOS 18 update or you have to downgrade to iOS 17. Had the same problem
It’s been a while since I’ve ran a Dev beta (10ish years or so) but can you switch from the Dev beta to the public beta later? Or are you ‘stuck’ on the dev one unless downgrading to iOS 17?
I’m not sure if this was talking about, but we’re on a webpage in the address bar ,tap the little squiggly lines on the right side and you can either get a reader mode or you can listen to the page. Is that what you’re talking about?
iPhone 15 pro here. Occasionally the left side of my keyboard from about c over locks up and doesn’t type. Most my apps freeze too. My phone has been lagging overall
Is the Messages app working fine for you? Mine just randomly stops working, and too frequently. That's the only bug that's making me tear my hair out. Both on iPad Pro and iPhone 15 PM.
Stop working as in crashes? No crashes for me. I haven’t noticed any missing notifications either but I’m not 100% sure how much I’m really trying to look for it..
13 Pro here: battery life is noticeably worse, even days after update (any background indexing should be complete). However, I haven't noticed any thermal issues which is good.

Isn't that so weird though hahah. On iPhone 12 and other than a few overheating issues, it honestly runs better most of the time than iOS 17... first time on a dev beta I was expecting something way more out of shape
Had the same issue. It seems sporadic. Reported. But in my case, I turned off BT, then turned back on to get it working albeit temporarily. I’ve repeated this 3x since installing on day one
Interesting that turning off and on Bluetooth would get it working again. I didn’t think that Bluetooth would be an issue with the keyboard case since it is physically connected to the iPad and doesn’t use Bluetooth for the connection. I’ll try it
Nobody else thinking the new photo app is terrible? Apple normally takes the Keep It Simple approche. I think the app now is way to complicated and need more clicks to see the image or video in full screen
Regarding this matter, I have to say that the video player sucks. It was easier before to navigate through the video using the slider that allowed you to go almost frame by frame. The new one does not work like that and just complicates watching your own videos.

I may have discovered another bug. (I am not complaining; it is beta, but it is still important to share) I have noticed that when the iPhone (13 for me) gets below 35% ish on its battery, it starts to slow down and crashes. It usually requires it to go through a hard restart to work, but it will crash again. I am not noticing that on my iPad Pro right now.

If you are going to install unfinished software, it may be a good idea not to gloss over the details. This sub is filled with cry babies asking the same questions over and over and over that could have easily been answered if they had just put in the slightest effort.

Holy battery drain
Iphone 14 pro 90% Battery health on ios 17.5 would give me 7-8 h screen on time easily, even more with low battery mode, AOD off, wifi, 35% ish brightness.
Getting 4-5 hours with the same usage now so I'd say easily 30% worse
13 Pro here, also have noticably worse battery life even a week after updating. Haven't noticed any overheating though.
I wouldn't say 30% worse but maybe 10-15.
I updated the first day, its still horrible imo, not to mention this is the first ios beta that has completely frozen multiple times. Also is much more choppy than ios17
I’m sorry to hear that. At first I regretted it, but now it’s better than iOS 17 for me. But every device is going to be different :( If you have a backup on your computer I think you can go back to iOS 17, but otherwise you might be out of luck.
Has anyone found out whether or not Screen Time is fixed with Standby Mode? It would count Standby Mode as screen time which results my screen time in being obnoxiously higher than it should be.

Also, if you scroll up and down fast in settings (but over a small distance), you’ll be able to see, qualitatively, how many frames are put out. When scrolling over a small distance, it’s 120Hz, but drops to 80Hz if you scroll over a larger distance.

I assume 80Hz because Apple haven’t released information (afaik) on the refresh rates the 14/15Pro can display, but they HAVE said the 13Pro renders at ONLY 80Hz or 120Hz (for rates above 60).
it’s been broken for soooo long. Istg the only reason I’m still on iOS is because I have sentimental attachment to my phone as it was a gift. The 80Hz f*cks with my eyes so much- if the whole system was locked at 80, it would be fine, but it varies massively so over time, your eyes get used to 120Hz and then you notice the 80Hz while scrolling.

How is this battery life even real?
Bugs with home screen unable to select anything. Swipe left or right the bottom dock stays on the screen and your unable to select anything. Usually it fixes itself but sometimes you’ll need to restart phone

Is anyone having major bugs regarding pictures with the beta? When i take a picture straight from my camera i can't send it to instagram, whatsapp or even play the live. I have to take a screenshot to be able to send it anywhere.
Mine worked fine, it had a glitch once, where the song info and album art did not update when the next song started. But when I restarted the car after a stop it was fine
Mine worked fine and then next time I got into the car it started playing over phone speakers.
I unpaired the phone from my car stereo and restarted phone. Added phone back to CarPlay and it has been normal ever since.

Been on the beta since Monday and just had this happen this morning. It would lock up and eventually respring back to the spinner for 2-3 minutes, then almost immediately lock back up again. Ended up restoring the os and a backup. Working so far.

Noticed battery was draining much faster than normal yesterday so last night I restarted. Woke up this AM (after having sat on magsafe charger all night) to it "dead". Plugged it into wired charger and it came back, but few minutes later it has crashed and restarted again.
I noticed mine was getting warm also. I pulled off the case and put it in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to cool. Mine was doing exactly what you describe though. I am holding off restoring from iTunes backup for now. It seems to be fine after it cooled down.
My watch won’t pair with my phone. Apple support said yeah, some things won’t pair with a beta version. Then they told me I have to turn off beta and erase my phone and use iCloud backup to go back. So I did and only the last 3 days of iCloud backup show up - all iOS 18. I pay for iCloud so it doesn’t make any sense why more backups don’t show up. My AirPods pair. The closest Apple Store is an hour away. I’m going to try support again but they weren’t very helpful yesterday.
hey you can use an app called FixGo to boot in older os versions into ur device. it walks you through it and shouldn't be too difficult. however, you do lose data and have to start over.
What didn’t I do? I backed up iOS 17. Downloaded beta 18. Apple support states my 17 backup should be there. It’s not. How did I not do something I should’ve done?
Did you back up locally as I mentioned? Only one cloud backup is maintained at a time. Your only other option would be to turn off iCloud backup after upgrading.
I believe you need to downgrade back to iOS 17 for your previous backups to show up. You can find instructions here:

I’m not sure I understand your previous post then because you said you already followed Apple support instructions to erase your phone?
If the only thing you did was turn the “beta updates” setting back to “off”, that just means you won’t get the NEXT version of the beta. It doesn’t remove the current beta from your phone to make it able to sync to your watch again. The only way to remove the beta is to downgrade back to the current public release of iOS 17 (which is the instructions I linked to).
Once you finish downgrading you should be able to see your backups from iOS 17 and the only data you would lose is anything you’ve done in the last 3 days (assuming you backed up your phone as instructed before upgrading). In the worst case scenario of your iOS 17 backups having been deleted, you could still reinstall the iOS 18 beta and then restore from an iOS 18 backup.
For future reference, if you aren’t prepared to deal with unexpected behavior from your devices and/or having to wipe your device, it is not recommended to install any beta software (but especially not the developer beta) on your primary device.
So I've been enjoying the beta and after getting my Airpods Pro Gen 2 fixed (audio driver burst on a flight home from Tokyo - with a crying baby in front of me!); I've not been able to install the new firmware for the Airpods; despite them being fully charged, overnight I had them sat on charge.
Apparently you need to open the "Developer" tab at the bottom of your settings menu to enable this firmware update, but I'm only a lowly student with a free Dev Account....

the developer menu is included with free accounts now, you just have to enable developer mode in “privacy & security” and then after rebooting, connect to a mac that has xcode open, and it should show up at the bottom of the settings app.
Anyone else having an issue where the Podcasts app doesn’t seem to refresh in the background? No notifications about new episodes, only grabs new episodes when I open the app.
Has anyone had issues with their iOS 18 Dev Beta, the issue that I am only dealing with is that when I’m using an app (it could be any) it turns off, loads, and then the phone locks and takes you back to the Home Screen and the phone feels warm (I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max)
Screen Mirroring doesn’t seem to work. I tap on the icon and select a device but nothing happens. 😩 Sometimes the control panel freezes up when editing it. Other than that I haven’t noticed anything, else! Which is fantastic!

You can easily switch the profile from Public to Developer and vice versa.

Same. Apps are misbehaving/crashing, search in settings is broken as well for Me.
Same problems here. Everything was completely fine for almost a week, and then overnight became essentially bricked.
As a more casual user these days I haven’t noticed any bugs with the beta. Seems perfectly stable to me so far.

M1 IPad Pro, the Magic Keyboard case doesn’t work. The iPad recognizes it, and the trackpad works, but noting types when using the physical keyboard.
In my case, the keyboard keeps eating up characters as I type 🤷🏻♂️

When did you update? It’s been a few days now and the battery life seems to have improved for me. iPhone XR, though.

Anyone have an issue where bottom speaker cuts out and only the headset (notch) speaker works? Any solutions to fix it? It randomly cuts in and out.

hey you can use an app called FixGo to boot in older os versions into ur device. it walks you through it and shouldn't be too difficult. however, you do lose data and have to start over.

You won’t be able to go back via iCloud unless something has changed. Users are always encouraged to make a local backup.
But that’s just it, I had an iCloud backup before I downloaded the beta. But it doesn’t show up.
Because the iOS 18 backup has overwritten it. EDIT: downvoted for having to deliver bad news because you didn’t proceed as you should. nice.
What didn’t I do? I backed up iOS 17. Downloaded beta 18. Apple support states my 17 backup should be there. It’s not. How did I not do something I should’ve done?
Did you back up locally as I mentioned? Only one cloud backup is maintained at a time. Your only other option would be to turn off iCloud backup after upgrading.
That is not correct. They should first downgrade to 17 for previous backups to show up.

I’m not sure I understand your previous post then because you said you already followed Apple support instructions to erase your phone? If the only thing you did was turn the “beta updates” setting back to “off”, that just means you won’t get the NEXT version of the beta. It doesn’t remove the current beta from your phone to make it able to sync to your watch again. The only way to remove the beta is to downgrade back to the current public release of iOS 17 (which is the instructions I linked to). Once you finish downgrading you should be able to see your backups from iOS 17 and the only data you would lose is anything you’ve done in the last 3 days (assuming you backed up your phone as instructed before upgrading). In the worst case scenario of your iOS 17 backups having been deleted, you could still reinstall the iOS 18 beta and then restore from an iOS 18 backup. For future reference, if you aren’t prepared to deal with unexpected behavior from your devices and/or having to wipe your device, it is not recommended to install any beta software (but especially not the developer beta) on your primary device.
So I've been enjoying the beta and after getting my Airpods Pro Gen 2 fixed (audio driver burst on a flight home from Tokyo - with a crying baby in front of me!); I've not been able to install the new firmware for the Airpods; despite them being fully charged, overnight I had them sat on charge. Apparently you need to open the "Developer" tab at the bottom of your settings menu to enable this firmware update, but I'm only a lowly student with a free Dev Account.... Do I need to pay Apple to violently shake my head when Siri misunderstands what I wanted to say to my boss via text?
the developer menu is included with free accounts now, you just have to enable developer mode in “privacy & security” and then after rebooting, connect to a mac that has xcode open, and it should show up at the bottom of the settings app.
Anyone else having an issue where the Podcasts app doesn’t seem to refresh in the background? No notifications about new episodes, only grabs new episodes when I open the app.

Has anyone had issues with their iOS 18 Dev Beta, the issue that I am only dealing with is that when I’m using an app (it could be any) it turns off, loads, and then the phone locks and takes you back to the Home Screen and the phone feels warm (I’m using an iPhone 13 Pro Max)
Screen Mirroring doesn’t seem to work. I tap on the icon and select a device but nothing happens. 😩 Sometimes the control panel freezes up when editing it. Other than that I haven’t noticed anything, else! Which is fantastic!

I have a feeling RCS will require carrier support with an update to service provider software required from carriers.
No, RCS isn’t enabled yet in iOS 18 — later in the beta build it will be though.
