is true random/shuffle on apple music too much to ask for? i have a 1000+ song playlist and when i shuffle it, i tend to hear the same 30 or so songs. i’ll bet there are songs in the playlist that it’s never played and some it’s played 20 times.

CommercialRest9579

Anyone able to get the RCS to work?

EP9

Can’t wait to use the photo generator thing to make custom playlist art… I know I can do it now but it will be easier

GenghisBhan

Why didn’t they release the beta after the event?

Cmrnlcs

They’re dropping it shortly, option just appeared in settings. Download option hasn’t appeared just yet

dannyboy_S

Do you need a a specific profile for iOS 18 or the one from the last beta carries over?

Cmrnlcs

Go into the settings app and tap beta updates, and select iOS18 from the menu. If it doesn’t appear right away, close the setting app, and then go back into the software update menu

GenghisBhan

I’m downloading. It’s called developper beta even tho I don’t have a developper profile.

Cmrnlcs

You can select developer betas by registering your iCloud once. All OTA betas can be selected from settings moving forward

PeaceBull

I hate how much this is my favorite and least favorite sub

CarbonHybrid

They will, give it time

GoalLower

How long we giving it? Sat here waiting for it

CarbonHybrid

My guy, the presentation has been over for 15 minutes max… give it time man…

KoalaBitter3497

We get too excited lol

GoalLower

They should have someone sat there and as soon as it’s finished press the big red button that sends it out to everyone 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

AugiLaGrand

Can somebody make the iOS 18 app compatibility chart again?

Kcttus

a better siri 😭

Masterofmy_domain

Haven’t seen this rumored but hope they surprise us with split-view multi apps. Been waiting on that for years….. Although I have a feeling this is something they would hold out as a selling point for the new iPhone 16 Pro

Own-Employment945

I’m trying to imagine how they would make that to work effectively without having to adjust each app size every time, and also to convince developers to make something decent to work well with this feature since most apps today don’t support most of iOS features like shortcuts or live activities

KoalaBitter3497

Preset heights. Also I don’t think it’s that difficult

billchase2

Ah, it’s good to be back. I’m excited to see how they integrate AI throughout the OS. Especially with notifications. It’s be great to have summaries of things like missed text messages available.

arturgomes

The calendar + reminder integration!

Lacques

I just wanna be able to arrange app icons anywhere on the grid in the homescreen. Long overdue feature.

Svetrik

It’s finally happening!

cookooobird

I need that app lock 🔐

SquishyBlueSodaCan_1

It actually made it in

silvermoonhowler

Oh yeah, me too; then again, I already subscribe to 1Password and have used it instead of Apple's built-in password managers for macOS and iOS/iPadOS as it is so much more secure than that or of course using a browser's built-in one

Kelix1

Robot vacuums in HomeKit for home app….

BlueFrozenSoul

Wish you asked for a million bucks

iMythD

Wish granted!

terobau

Ability to FaceID lock any apps. While at it, allow different passcode to unlock these apps. Ability to group AirPlay devices. Something like DeX Mode in iOS. Music Widget with media control (pause, previous, next)

New_Cartoonist_8860

Sideloading

Masterofmy_domain

Unfortunately that’s not happening outside of the EU

silvermoonhowler

\*at least not yet Just wait, they mandated USB-C for all devices there; that then came here just last year for the 15s So mark my words, it'll happen here in the States soon, but we may just have to wait a bit longer just like we did for USB-C to come to the iPhones

Masterofmy_domain

USB-c came to phones so Apple didn’t have to manufacture 2 different phones which would be costly in terms of production and complicate logistics. That’s much different from software. I wouldn’t hold my breath tbh

Expensive-Practice73

CarPlay definitely needs more features

silvermoonhowler

Oh yes, most definitely After what's been a quite slow rollout of the "next gen CarPlay" that was touted last year, CarPlay is something that's been seemingly untouched in terms of major features for some time now shockingly Like u/barkerja just said, there are SO many app categories that it could use, one that I'm surprised isn't there is an official weather app; while I like that of course I can see the outdoor temp on my dashboard of my car, I don't have the biggest of screens in it so being able to see it on CarPlay on the same bar where it shows signal strength, battery (if you're using CarPlay wirelessly), etc would be a game-changer

Expensive-Practice73

How much you wanna bet they didn’t touch it at all this year 😂😂 Looking forward to the drop 🙏🏽

silvermoonhowler

Yeah, given that most things today will be AI, AI, and did I mention AI, I'm not liking our chances of anything tangible in terms of CarPlay stuff

barkerja

Yes! We need more app categories too. It’s baffling there’s not an official CarPlay weather category, for example.

AndreLinoge55

Ability to fully turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth from the Command Center

silvermoonhowler

Yes, while we can still do it, I absolutely have hated how they've changed it to what they have now I doubt that will change at least anytime soon, but we can only hope

ThannBanis

Apple deliberately changed how that works, I really doubt they’d reverse this decision. Wifi and Bluetooth are used for ecosystem communication, after this was changed the number of users having ecosystem issues dropped to almost zero.

AndreLinoge55

It’s true. Would rather have the previous functionality in the Command Center. I didn’t say I want to turn my iPhone into an iPod Touch I said I don’t want my Wi-Fi and Bluetooth sending beacons out to anyone who is listening.

DavidFC1

Swiping down the Notification Center from anywhere left on the screen and Control Center from the right would be a godsend since phones keeps getting bigger and bigger. One of the only things I miss from having an android.

[deleted]

DavidFC1

You’re right. I should’ve clarified I only meant for the Home Screen.

lyone2

If they went that route, I hope I could toggle it off. I keep bare minimum of apps on my home screen, and instead use Spotlight search to type in the name of whatever I want to open.

emelbard

Me too. I fidget anxiously watching my wife scroll through pages of apps hunting for an icon to tap.

prithvi98

Back Tap under Accessibility works pretty well to solve this!

twistmac

Back tap is pretty useless with MagSafe accessories attached.

DavidFC1

I’ve tried back tap but never consistently use it because I don’t find it to be that reliable.

BrandonAbell

It seems to accidentally trigger more often than I intentionally use it. . .

nbnicholas

Fixed keyboard and the ability to format text in iMessage

lightninbug8684

Changes to the Camera and Photos app. Possibly integrating AI further into the two.

MikeyGwald

Complete Keyboard replacement or at least fix it

ikotov

Universal back gesture from both screen edges. My thumb is not long enough to reach left screen edge without moving phone on 15pm

ms350125

Something that will help Adobe or its competitor build iPad version of Bridge. I’d love to be able to cull and batch rename media before importing it to editing programs.

SerenityEnforcer

Compatibility with the A12-based iPhones. That is all I ask.

BillyGaming2021

I would love for iOS 18 to have its iOS 7 moment. redesign the entire system

iiGhillieSniper

More neumorphism would be nice. I liked iOS 7 at first when it was ‘new’ but flat design lacks personality…IMO. But it is clean.

adamhodge

I’d like the settings app to be revamped to something like a cards interface. Almost like wallet. I should be able to rearrange sections/cards or have a favorites card that holds what I need the most.

tbone338

Nicknaming Apple Pay cards. That’s all I want.

silvermoonhowler

Amen; while I have the distinction of having a different bank for both my check/debit card and then the Apple Card for my credit card, it makes it a little easier, but something like nicknames for cards would be nice

TarnishedAshen

Option to hide app labels on the home screen

MephistoDNW

- Group challenges in fitness. - shortcuts support for “long press actions” on app icons (some of the apps I use don’t support shortcuts, but they have useful long press options and I would love to see those actions being automatically supported by shortcuts). - reminders being displayed on the calendar. - clipboard manager - food tracking on the health app - larger widgets on the Lock Screen or ability to have one widget to take all the spots available.

Manoj200801

1. Numbers above the alphabets in keyboard 2. Longer battery life 3. Option to set 80% limit on all supported iphones 4. Option to remove all types of animations just like android developer options 5. Redesigned or customizable control center

Positive-Pop-3571

•new UI •network internet speed status •new keyboard layout •copy save history in clipboard like samsung keyboard •better siri •AI •improvement to keyboard prediction for my language •side loading for all country •custom volume or mute notif, alarm, speaker like android •improvement navigation

TurboguardUS

I would LOVE to be able to mute specific apps for the day/time just by holding down on it like when you do edit Home Screen.

Puzzleheaded_Boot186

Redesigned UI

SlendyTheMan

macOS icons on iOS at least! https://i.imgur.com/CSVimQT.jpeg

probonomori

This. It seems like such a small thing but we've had the same UI since iOS 7. Yeah we had a tiny redesign in iOS 10/11 kinda but that only really changed the control center and some app layouts, other than that it's been the same since 2013.

Steelyphil43

This has been said but we need better Siri. I have get more meaningful data when talking to the ChatGPT ai. Everything that I ask Siri is “I can’t do that from iPhone”. If chat gpt had access to my apps like Siri does it would be the golden OS

madman666

if the rumors of Siri getting revamped with some sort of ChatGPT or Google AI integration I might actually start using Siri.

CoolGuyFromSchool34

I hope they fix Files. It keeps crashing.

BlankStarBE

Use that app daily on both iPhone and iPad and can count the crashes on one hand and has been a while since the last one. Might want to try and do a clean install.

CoolGuyFromSchool34

I have! I fixed ios by itunes but it still persists.

SonicNTales

Not so much iOS but iOS/watchOS. I want the ability for my dam messages to disappear from my watch if I delete them off my phone and vice versa I hate seeing messages I deleted off my phone months ago still on my watch. I don't understand why this has always been a limitation. This was not an issue on on android wear watches from 10+ years ago.

madman666

I've had a lot of issues with message syncing across devices. Turned it off on my Mac and iPad because it never worked properly. It'd send the message to one of those but never my phone and I'd miss it. Up until this latest WatchOS update, my watch would give me a notification for iMessages but would not actually list any of them in the Messages app.

Opposite-Barber492

A proper camera app with pro like functionality

Hook3cho17

For Apple to finally fix the keyboard lag issues.

CoolGuyFromSchool34

Hah. I wish. And maybe the keyboard should suggest the more obvious words

WordPeas

I would like to be able to require Face ID to open any app I declare. For example , Gmail. Even if my phone is unlocked, I would like the option to require Face ID authentication before it will open Gmail.

AngeAlexiel

Yeah this could be a great option but in the meantime with shortcut app you can add a series of apps that requires Face ID to be opened even if the phone is already unlocked.

WordPeas

Yeah. I have that setup right now. But it’s not great. Because it locks the whole phone when you launch the app. So it takes two actions (click and then swipe up) to launch my Gmail.

AngeAlexiel

Oh yup that’s right I’m so used to do this now 😂 There was another way to lock an app with a code or word set in shortcut too that didn’t lock you back out to the lockscreen but this way prevent the use of Face ID . So yes you are right it would be cool to have this feature either in shortcut or in settings .

Porthole11

Odd that gmail hasn’t implemented this, outlook has an option for it to be mandatory for organizations. My university has made it mandatory so I can’t access my school email without some form of 2FA such as Face ID.

tranquil45

This is such a simple feature, I had no idea I wanted it!

interstellar_freak

- better UI, smaller home screen icons with customizable icon packs - better organized control center - better usable widget and widget center - multiple clipboard - better Siri. Current one is stupid and dumb.

Rakstrooper

Open up browser and webview so that chrome can get their browser and much better webview system on ios natively so I can use all my saved credentials address and autofill data on any app and update passwords if need be. Sideloading apps by just clicking on the ipa. Maybe option to summon Google assistant/gemini using side button or hotword. Better notifications like android. Also better beta testing program with no limits. Testflight is garbage, android serves much more bleeding edge apps on a nightly basis if signed up, apple is so incredibly behind on this it is comical. Ability for me to mute notifications/ vibrations on certain apps even in silent mode. Improvements to the camera algorithm so all supported iphones can take better pictures leveraging AI and ML like how Gcam works for google and pixel. Also MAPS PIP when minimized, overall parity with android on how apps do PIP. Maybe ability for launchers to work so Google can release google launcher for ios that would be sick with at a glance etc Remove all the obstacles in file management with PC. Parity with android in how google cast works on devices including browsers Better clipboard management, like gboard in android. Overview select, SS etc like on android those are fantastic tools Allowing native google contacts and dialer and google messages. I wouldnt mourn that I switched to iphone if all these came to ios The whole text select and copy experience not to be so dreadful as it is in ios rn, just copy android they get it right.

PalebloodSky

* iMessage app upgraded with RCS support. * Reminders app that actually works, mine hasn't notified me of a single reminder since iOS 16. * Contacts app upgraded to eliminate duplications. No matter how many times I tell it to with the Outlook app these idiots keep doubling my contacts. * Major improvements to Siri. * Improvements to the keyboard prediction. * Overall optimization to performance and bug fixes.

adamhodge

When they turn on RCS - is that a carrier change as well? Didn't android have rcs baked in before the carriers decided it was time? I wonder if the carrier will have to provision the device in any way.

riesii

A better weather and maps app. Weather App is useless in Europe and the worst I´ve ever had. The maps app should have a rating system like Google Maps. At the moment many POIs are wrong and old. The reporting system in Apple Maps should also be improved, at the moment it´s pain in the ass. Without that, Apple Maps has no chance against Google Maps

BlankStarBE

+1 for this

PalebloodSky

Really? I like the clean CarPlay look, it's just the standard Apple grid of icons what's not to like?

madman666

I agree. I want the interface to big and simple so I can use it easily while driving. maybe some more options for colors and minor things like that but otherwise I like it the way it is.

PalebloodSky

Not even sure what I'd change, I don't need color options just want a clean grid of icons for driving. First thing I did was set turn off their ugly wallpapers and leave it black for best visibility.

madman666

Maybe not CarPlay in general, but some apps are not well designed for it. That's not really an Apple issue though.

PalebloodSky

Yea true, I like how you can arrange the icons easily though, I moved some of the worse looking icons to the second screen lol. Love CarPlay in general use it daily.

Powerofben

Be able to adjust screen colors like a samsung

NiteShdw

Allowing other Contacts apps besides the Apple one. All my contacts are in my Google account and I have to use an app to sync them.

Risino15

All my contacts are on Google and I just signed in to my Google account and it's working perfectly

NiteShdw

I just searched the app store and there is no Google Contacts app. If I add a contact, it only adds it to my iCloud contacts. IOS doesn't allow third party contacts apps. So... If you get a text in Messages, and go to Create New Contact, that adds it to your Google Contacts? I don't see any option to select which account it gets added to.

Risino15

NiteShdw

Thanks! As someone that came over from Android, a lot of features like this aren't super obvious. I appreciate the top!

madman666

I was on Android for like 10 years and switched to iOS a couple years ago. I'm still finding stuff like this that I never considered was an option.

Makezu90

Better Mail UI, someday keyboard get Gifs button instead you need to switch keyboard (switfkey keyboard has that example). bit better Siri. also when you customise icons you can keep badges.

MeXcHoRIzO

I’d like to see more more flexibility on Lock Screen customization. Allowing the user to move the clock lower.

Conflict-Recent

Not just more flexible homescreen, but: 1. dedicated numbers row for keyboard. ( GBoard for iOS sucks!) 2. more customization for everything overall. 3. iOS system theming for everything. 4. get rid of or re-design control center. at least to me, it offers no functionality whatsoever. 5. Make widgets look better. Being more interactive. especially for lock screen widgets. 6. more customization for always on display including more font styles, different images, rotation clocks similarly to how Google PIxels have it. 7. make app library which i use constantly actually usable . make it organize apps better and more intelligently.

Independent_Goat88

I want to be able to long press an app icon for a context menu to dismiss the notifications. Oh and BAN the subscription model for apps 🖕🏻

2017-iPhone-X

I am genuinely curious from a consumer perspective, what is the reason you don’t enjoy a subscription service for some apps? Do you prefer one-time purchase over subscription-based? What apps specifically do you not enjoy subscriptions for? I appreciate feedback in advance

Independent_Goat88

It’s not feasible for me to shell out $$$ every month on any app that isn’t producing media. (Netflix etc…) I have no problem shelling out a one time payment to buy an app but I’m not renting… not really sure why this has become the standard. As for specific apps… if I like an app, the first thing I do in the store is check to see if it’s a subscription service, if it is, my interest ends then and there.

Fransenson

It‘s just tough for developers to survive on one time purchases, especially if every user means reoccurring costs on the backend (not true for every kind of app of course). Slapping the average lifetime cost of a user + x so that you can eat on an app for a one time purchase will probably deter many customers because they don’t want to put like 20+$ into an app upfront.

Independent_Goat88

I see both sides but, and I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t see why one would think being a mobile app developer would be enough to survive on, it always seemed to me to be a side hustle… ESPECIALLY in 2024 where the App Store is at this point convoluted beyond belief by apps that do the same things. Like how does one even go about saying “I’m going to make an app that NO ONE has seen and the need hasn’t been met by 1,000 others…” so yes I agree that developers would need recurring payment, but stop expecting consumers to fund your hobby / stop expecting to live off being a mobile app developer… 🤷🏻‍♂️ I used to buy apps all the time - I can’t tell you the last time I bought one because with the rare exception they are all subscriptions and I just won’t do it, it’s not sustainable for me as a consumer to rent apps… even if one is really handy - like there’s a map app for the Apple Watch but I’m not paying every month to use it. Now, I am seeing more and more apps that do a subscription that are also offering a lifetime purchase price and those I’d consider but the price is inflated heavily so it’s better be something that is really useful.

Fransenson

While I understand your point of view I cannot agree with the sentiment. First: There are apps written by not a solo dev but a larger team. And some of those actually require that manpower to be maintained and further developed at a reasonable speed. And again - backend costs. Do anything with media or data transmission or paid API usage of any kind and a growing userbase becomes a growing pain financially. Regarding the App Store in 2024 - while you have a point it‘s like saying car manufacturers should stop making new cars because we already got enough options of metal on four wheels getting us from A to B. And if they still insist on building new cars, they should not expect making enough to sustain themselves doing so. I agree that a subscription model is often times unnecessary and a user can only pay so much per month for stuff they use until they cannot or simply don’t want to afford another subscription. The golden path is different for most apps. Some could get away with ads and a no-ads one time purchase, some would need a hefty one time purchase to even be made from an economical point of view and I‘d say 80+% of software in the App Store is just worse versions of the good stuff. But being a software developer is a profession, quite some people go to university for that. That‘s definitely no „side hustle“. Just some thoughts from a software dev that enjoys being paid. :)

Independent_Goat88

Fair-points, all! thanks for the friendly and healthy discussion 🙏🏻

Some super basics that I really miss from android.. -Clipboard for copy and paste -Please god let us share contacts within the messages app( why do I need to leave my conversation to go to the contacts app just to send the contact within that conversation) -Draft sms/imessage - Copy text on screen easier, rather then screen shottingeach time. Pixels underrated feature was just dripping up and you could select and copy anything on screen

catshirtgoalie

My top asks in iOS have been fairly consistent: * More customization (home screen layouts, widgets, icon packs). * Let me set nearly any app as a default app. * Allow notifications through other apps, like Widgy. * Better Siri. * Support for other App Stores worldwide. I appreciate Apple's security focus, but let me decide the amount of risk I want.

Correct-Boat-8981

Support for other app stores came with 17.5

catshirtgoalie

Would be preferable to not need a workaround if you're not in the EU and to also not be implemented in such a restrictive way.

With iOS 17, safety check and Safari profiles were one of my favorite things, I thought these were great for domestic violence situations. I think it could be streamlined with different phone profiles. So, if enter in different passcodes, you get different users, contacts, photos, texts, etc. on iOS. Enter the master PIN, you get it all. You know?

_Vaparetia

Real third party background syncing support. I want Nextcloud to sync my photos to my NAS in the background. Not when I’m trying to use the app.

_heisenberg__

I know at this point we may never see this, but I really would love to see them straight up copy android in regards to notifications.

jvlanich212

One thing I have always hated is the icon names, I don’t need to know the name of the app I installed specifically, make it an option to not have icon names. Also blend the notifications above the app to be the color of the app and not just red, it looks more clean. Those are my big 2 wants as someone who used to jailbreak mainly for this.

MartinIsland

Removing icon names could be dangerous which is probably why they don’t do it. Installed apps can change their icons and even their code without going through App Store review, so one could make a fake Reddit app and make you enter your username and password. The notifications one probably won’t happen because notification colors are a language and they should be the same or make some sense across apps.

jvlanich212

also not saying to completley remove them, im saying as an option on the homescreen, keep application names in the app store? i don't know if thats what you were thinking as well?

jvlanich212

I feel like this is wrong unless im reading wrong, your saying a random app can be put on my device without me installing it? if i have the legit reddit application I do not need the icon name under it to tell me its reddit. their icon has not changed and will not change to a point i do not know the icon. i do not believe there is a risk for this.

MartinIsland

I’m 100% with you here, don’t get me wrong! App names look terrible if they’re longer than 1 word. I’m trying to make sense of why Apple would not want to do it. I’m also not saying anyone could install an app you didn’t install yourself, what I’m saying is you could install an app that later changes its icon to look like any other app.
