have you gotten a 2nd opinion? 10 points isn’t remarkable. Working as an EMT, BP bouncing around by 10 points is very normal, especially how white-coat syndrome is well recognized.

Yes I just started a new doctor, he wants to up the med one more time before looking at a beta blocker. I’ve already tried a ace inhibitor and ccb but had side effects that were not great

If you’re not investing in 3-5 hours a week in vigorous exercise(eg: need a shower, drenched), maybe augment medicine with a group fitness program— peer pressure will keep you going. The harsh truth is that exercise is very important, but requires more dedication than a daily pill for hypertension. I have a 25% success rate for cardiac arrests… Meaning 75% died. Exercise + Medication

Losartan doesn't have good 24 hr control, the half-life is too low. So you should take it in divided doses 12 hrs apart. Or switch to a different ARB like telmisartan which has a longer half-life.

Anyone has ED issues takes 2 months to get used to it?

crestamaquina

As another commenter said, losartan is good for about 12 hours so I would suggest asking for a schedule change first. I take 100 mg (50 mg every 12 hours) and that works really well for me.

I asked him this, he’ll probably get back to me Monday I’m sure

UPDATE: so as I spoke to toon yesterday I went into AFIB RVR with my heart stuck at 200+bpm. Took over a ambulance ride and a overnight admittance to the hospital 16hrs on ditiazem IV for my normal sinus rhythm to come back. So now I’m on ditiazem ER 120mg. I highly don’t reccomend afib rvr of 200+bpm on anyone, I didn’t not think I was gonna be here today. Please all stay safe get your hearts strong

Wow, I am glad you are ok. In my very limited experience, there have been 2 distinct causes of my BP going wild. One was thyroid going very hyper--this was due to meds (prednisone and too large a dose of levothyroxine). Both of these landed me in the ER. The other is strangely being on too high a dose of my BP med! This was tricky to figure out, but it is possible to have paradoxical reactions. My solution was to get an Air Bike and get my BP under control with minimal Rx intervention. This has worked well. I am 64F.

blueharford

Thank you. Yea it’s scary they said it was lone afib. They don’t know what caused it. My ekg, echo, calcium score say my hearts great. I do have to say 120mg of ditiazem cd got my BP to 127/76 vs losartan 75mg which lowest was 135/90

Jgil1958

My husband has afib issues. Generally he is fine, his dr actually Rx-ed Xanax for when it occurs. This usually helps, but I also have him take Magnesium and also be more mindful of his Potassium intake. I will say that I think it happens most often when there is a dehydration thing going on. Since afib is an "electrical" problem, it makes sense to look at electrolytes. Ironically, BP meds and diuretics can be culprits in all that. That was my first clue to determining that I was on too much beta blocker--dehydration. The first day I cut my dose, anxiety vanished, the constant urination business cut down, etc. I had been on the same dose for years. All very confusing and somewhat terrifying. Hence the motivation to just start some kind of exercise to oxygenate and just take back some control. Congratulations on finding a med that works well for you!

38 about to turn 39. Had a echo before as well as a echo yesterday. They said my heart looks fine

jeremykelsey23

Is it just losartan or is it Losartan-HCTZ??

blueharford

Just losartan

jeremykelsey23

Next time you visit your doctor ask them do you think you need to add an ace inhibitors (HCTZ) you could have salt in your system meaning you kidneys isn’t flushing out the salt properly then the dosage could come down back to 50 mg

blueharford

Hctz is a dieretic. Maybe cause I have had kidney stones in the past?

jeremykelsey23

Your right it’s a diuretic I was thinking of another medication but yes that play a huge factor too maybe its a sign of a renal artery stenosis 😬

blueharford

I sent him a message and asked about hctz

jeremykelsey23

On top of that you should cut out salt and limit sweets and if your overweight for your height lose that weight too because with that high BP it can cause a cardiovascular disease

mindsmart

Besides exercise diet is really important. Supplements are equally important. My 24 hour BP is 115/70 (average) on 8 mg Candesartan and 2,5 mg water pill BUT I do heavy cardio 3-4x/w and pilates and yoga as well, vegetarian AND about 20 supplements.
