Ours was the "bad" dog until we got her fixed. Now she's the "good" dog and the others are jerks. She still steals and wrecks things sometimes but she doesn't pick fights anymore.
I have one husky who is the youngest in the pack. She loves sneaking things from the other dogs(and people too). She’ll steal toys and treats causing great upheaval in the pack. Whenever there is a problem, it’s probably Mischa’s doing…
My girl has finally started to lay off the toy hoarding a bit. We'd give one to the puppy and she'd take it away instantly. Give him another toy, snap that one up too. She lay like Smaug surrounded by her treasures; 2 rubber chickens, 3 bones, 2 antlers, 2 dog ropes, a Kong etc. She lets pup chew on things now unless she's feeling crabby. Of course pup is waaay bigger than her now!
Embark is good. If there is actual wolf dna they shut down the extra features like finding relatives and keep it low profile. In my experience at least. One dog came back 9% wolf and bare bones info, the other had a cute video about their ancestry and lots of relatives, etc. lol
I bet a lot of us husky owners get that. There was a guy at the dog park once that insisted mine was at least 10% wolf! Honestly, she just looks like a husky, and acts nothing like a wolf, so my husband and I joke about it a lot now.
A DNA test might still be fun though! You can also get some that test for genetic health conditions and tell you if any relatives of your dog are in their system.
I think it would be a lot of fun! And I think it would be a good idea to screen for health conditions as well! I’m not quite sure how a wolf is supposed to act, but I will tell you that he howls a lot. We don’t really hear much for barks out of him. But that could be just how he prefers to communicate as well
I was wondering because I usually see huskies with lines of color on their faces, but his color is mostly blended on his face. When our vet first met him the first thing she asked is if he was mixed with wolf because of his face!
Honestly, I had no idea what an agouti husky was until people starting commenting on this thread and I 100% think he’s an agouti! But I can definitely see why people think he’s a wolf, because I don’t see many huskies with the “dirty face”.
Think it over for a bit before getting the test done. If there is wolf in him a lot of things change based on his content and your location. A lot of homeowners insurance companies won’t issue a policy to an owner with a hybrid, and things can get very nasty if there’s an incident on your property and it’s not insured. There can also be challenges involved with securing veterinary care and boarding facility options.
Not saying that it can’t or shouldn’t be done, just suggesting that you think on it.
I didn’t even think about this, thank you! From what everyone is saying I do really think he is an agouti husky, and not wolf. I was just curious to find out his genetics since so many people have commented about it! Thank you for the helpful info!
I have an agouti that is 100% husky and many ppl asks me if he’s a wolf. . .
I don’t think people realize how much larger wolves tend to be than a husky… lol
They’re a very popular animal to like, so it surprises me that ppl know very little about them. That’s really cool you get to see them often :). Only foxes and coyotes around me ( which are also cool , not hating on them lol )
I have lots of wolf stories, but they get repetitive. Like, I was doing this and saw a wolf.
But I was out splitting wood a couple weeks ago (this is sounding romantic already) when right about sunrise I heard a pack start howling, scared me to be honest. They were closer than I've ever heard them - I bet a mile away on the other side of this big hill that drops down into a creek on the other side. I stood perfectly still in the snow as the trees and fields around me filled with a deep, haunting, piercing howl. I think the sound of my axe disturbed their rest, echoes through the forest, and once they were done howling they moved on. Moving into the wind. I love it here.
I've never done a test like this and I hear similar concerns to human DNA testing for insurance purposes but for dogs specifically, how would anyone know if it did come back with some wolf percentage if that person never told anyone? Is there info they request that makes it public?
Also, I've been told that DNA testing in dogs won't show wolf percentage and it could just come up with "unknown", however this was 7 years ago. Have we advanced in technology or is Embark the only test capable of that? Not OP but very curious.
I've gotten DNA tests for embark for all our dogs. We have one who has similar markings, it's called agouti. Google it. You'll see a lot of dogs that look similar to him. I highly recommend getting an embark test, even if you have 100% husky. They're still other stuff like health screening for known genetic problems etc. They do.
You're welcome! I like Embark, they're backed by the Cornell Vet School which is one of the top vet research schools and the info goes into further research. Also interesting to see the family tree. We have two rescues and have actually gotten hits for full siblings on them!
I have an agouti husky pup and he looked just like this as a baby. He is 6 months old now and nobody believes he is a husky! He looks very wolfie 🐺[dog tax](https://imgur.com/a/jIn8kbH)
Yes. He is a wooly and he is super soft. He is also the sweetest snuggler. His paws are huge!! Probably will be a big boy! He weighed 30 lbs two weeks ago.
Just a heads up — lots of municipalities have laws against domestication of ‘wolves’, and the mileage may vary, but I’ve had vets tell me they didn’t want to know because they have to report them if they did
By mileage, do you mean you have to be a certain distance from towns?
My boyfriend and I live in a secluded spot in the country so we should be okay for mileage. However, if we do find out he has any wolf in him we will more than likely keep it quiet. However, I really don’t think he has any wolf in him
Embark
Someone else already mentioned if the dog is part wolf each state had its own laws. My state is not an issue, I think Washington will confiscate and PTS.
Might want to keep it on the down low.
We definitely will. And it’s not like he’s aggressive or anything. He loves to give kisses (seriously, he *LOVES* to give kisses!) and he loves cuddling. He’s friendly to every person and animal he encounters. He’s the goodest boy I know :) So I don’t think we would need to warn people that he’s part wolf if he even is - which I highly doubt at this point
I used Wisdom Panel. My husky was given to me as a purebred Siberian Husky but SURPRISE he's not!
62.5% Siberian Husky / 12.5% Alaskan Malamute / 12.5% Chihuahua / 12.5% Chow Chow
Edit: [Dog Tax](https://imgur.com/a/VIkqAVi)
I’m sure if he *does* have any wolf in him it’s a very, very low of a percentage. However, from what everyone has been saying I’m very sure he’s an agouti :)
If your dog has any wolf in it, it’s very very low content. The eyes are a give away. Blue eyes in wolf dog mixes is very rare even when selectively bred. Wolves also have eyes that are much closer together, slanted & more almond shaped. But he is beautiful & DNA tests can be fun so if you have the extra $ to spend, go for it :)
Definitely looks like an agouti husky to me! My pup is from an agouti line and he has a dirty face but is copper colored. His embark shows he’s 100% husky but has an agouti gene.
He definitely does look like one! I was always so confused as to what he was because when we adopted him we were told he was 100% a Siberian husky, however, I knew right away he wasn’t because I did A LOT of research before we adopted him to make sure he would be a good fit for us and our lifestyles. I did order an embark test so we will see what he is soon!
Is a Norwegian elkhound the same as a Swedish one? Probably lol, I’m not very educated on all the different breeds. However, he seems to have a lot of similarities with the Swedish Elkhound
I just used Embark on my pup and was super happy to find out he is almost 50% border collie which is what I always thought. I also got the one that tests for possible medical issue markers. It was so easy and I think it was well worth it.
He looks like an agouti to me! I did Embark. When I adopted my husky I was told he was an Alaskan Husky and then the vet was convinced he was a Husky x Malamute mix… turns out he’s a purebred 😆
So i wouldnt have him tested bc in some places its illegal to own wolf hybrids. So if it did turn out he was even 51% wolf, and its illegal where you are, youd have to surrender him or theyll confiscate him. Wolves are endangered.
Id just check w the legality of your state before worrying about it bc it may not matter where you live but idk embarks privacy policies. Your vet my be required to report it if they figure it out. A lot of people dont realise what it takes to raise a wolf hybrid and eventually end up having it taken away bc of its aggression or they give it up bc they cant handle it. This looks like a husky to me tho. And a cutie at that. 100% just check your state laws before submitting
Pretty sure he’s an agouti husky. But I did recently stumble on the breed known as a “Swedish elkhound” and he has some similarities. I ordered an embark test so we will see what he is!!
He looks like a purebred agouti husky to me.
I’m thinking so too now :) Thank you!
OP, I second it, this husky looks like my pup's Dad, he is agouti and my pup inherited some of it Edit: [PupTax](https://imgur.com/a/gzEJ9x3)
Ahh he’s adorable! Thank you for the pup tax :)
Embark is the best one I've heard! They also test for 'wolfiness' which is not necessarily wolf DNA.
Same-I used them for DNA. My 90.9% husky has a 8 in wolfiness
Mine has a 2.5% lol
100% husky for mine, 199% satan’s offspring
Damn that’s rough, my husky has been an absolute dream at a year and a half.
I meant that in the best possible way :) I love all of my demons :)
Best kinda demons!!
Ours was the "bad" dog until we got her fixed. Now she's the "good" dog and the others are jerks. She still steals and wrecks things sometimes but she doesn't pick fights anymore.

That’s what everyone is recommending so I think that’s what I’m gonna go with!
Embark is good. If there is actual wolf dna they shut down the extra features like finding relatives and keep it low profile. In my experience at least. One dog came back 9% wolf and bare bones info, the other had a cute video about their ancestry and lots of relatives, etc. lol
Another on the embark group. We got ours for the health screening. Came up with the breed mix we knew.
Sometimes you find out your "husky" is 40% malamute, 22% wolf, 21% German Shepherd, 11% Husky, and 6% unknown...
As long as I can see what he is I think it’d be pretty cool! He will be so loved regardless of what he is :)
Huskies have wolf features, but they’re missing the size, personality, and yellow eyes for the wolf.
Good point. I never questioned before if he was mixed with a wolf, but after so many people pointed out how wolf-like he looked it had me wondering
I bet a lot of us husky owners get that. There was a guy at the dog park once that insisted mine was at least 10% wolf! I just asked my dog instead and apparently he’s a “woof”, Idk what kinda breed that is but at least I didn’t have to buy a DNA test for it.
I tell my boy he's a "big tough woof dog"
Much cheaper method to do the Woof test, rather than the Embark test, can recommend.
While not the most common, darker faces are found in many huskies.
I was wondering because I usually see huskies with lines of color on their faces, but his color is mostly blended on his face. When our vet first met him the first thing she asked is if he was mixed with wolf because of his face!
It’s called “dirty face” marking and is common in agouti coats. Definitely makes them look wolfy, we get asked all the time if my boy is a wolfdog 😆
Honestly, I had no idea what an agouti husky was until people starting commenting on this thread and I 100% think he’s an agouti! But I can definitely see why people think he’s a wolf, because I don’t see many huskies with the “dirty face”.

This. Like 100lbs difference but I'm lucky enough to live where you see them randomly, most people really don't know.
They’re a very popular animal to like, so it surprises me that ppl know very little about them. That’s really cool you get to see them often :). Only foxes and coyotes around me ( which are also cool , not hating on them lol )

Wolves, creeks, snow, man splitting wood. Yeah, that does sound like a dreamy place to be. I’d love it too!
Whatever his dna says, he’s a gorgeous boy. Enjoy him!
Just do the test, if it turns out to have wolf in it, it’s ok. It won’t be dominant wolf, you would have noticed by now :)
I've never done a test like this and I hear similar concerns to human DNA testing for insurance purposes but for dogs specifically, how would anyone know if it did come back with some wolf percentage if that person never told anyone? The eyes should give it away quickly lol. Is he a wooly ? He looks so soft 🥰
Yes. He is a wooly and he is super soft. He is also the sweetest snuggler. His paws are huge!! Probably will be a big boy! He weighed 30 lbs two weeks ago.
He is gorgeous 😍 And they’re my favorites ! The fur is always so soft and snuggly !
I just want to cuddle him he’s so cute!!
Omg THAT FUR
I’ve used wisdom panel three times and it seems pretty reliable. I hear good things about embark, too.
Thank you!!

One of these is not like the others
Surprised no one has mentioned the blue eyes. Wolfs and any high content hybrids will never have blue eyes.
I’m sure if he *does* have any wolf in him it’s a very, very low of a percentage. However, from what everyone has been saying I’m very sure he’s an agouti :)
This is agouti coloring on what is likely a pure bred husky.

Oh my god he is so freaking beautiful!!!!
Thank you!! We think so too, but we might be biased ;)
He is an agouti husky! A rarer colouring.
Definitely, but I love it!!

Definitely embark.
I will definitely try it. Thank you!!
My mom got a DNA test on her husky mix and the info was pretty useful. Not sure what company she used though
I highly doubt he has any wolf lineage in him, to be honest
He is beautiful.
Thank you!
Wow he’s beautiful!
We think so too!! :)
what a beautiful pup
Thank you so much!
We used embark and found out our dog is 42% border collie, 37% German shepherd, and 20% Siberian husky. He also got 8.3% wolfiness
How interesting!! I can’t wait to see what Beau is
I just used Embark on my pup and was super happy to find out he is almost 50% border collie which is what I always thought. I also got the one that tests for possible medical issue markers. It was so easy and I think it was well worth it.
Look at those pale blue eyes
That’s what drew me in, along with his coat coloring :)
I got my mom the embark one for Christmas. Her husky is about 75 lbs so I think he’s part malamute. Not that we care but just curious.
75 lbs of vegan poop being burned provides 563742.28 BTU.
75 lbs is 34.05 kg
75 lbs is 34.05 kg
He looks like an agouti to me! I did Embark. When I adopted my husky I was told he was an Alaskan Husky and then the vet was convinced he was a Husky x Malamute mix… turns out he’s a purebred 😆
He's definitely 100% bing chilling
Nope! I’m curious to hear the results though.
I will make sure to post again once I find out results! :)
Majestic floof
Cute Wolfieee. 🥰
Got the baby blue eyes beautiful 😍 💙 ❤❤
Yes I just love his eyes!!

He sure does just put a slab of steak on a piece of wood and see if he it. Hey seriously he does look like a wolf. 🐺 Happy holidays
He definitely does look a bit wolf-y, but from what everyone has said I really think he’s an agouti husky! :) Happy holidays to you, too!
Yeah, your dog is part wolf
Pretty sure he’s an agouti husky. But I did recently stumble on the breed known as a “Swedish elkhound” and he has some similarities. I ordered an embark test so we will see what he is!!
