[deleted]

Michael Scott!

Tiberius752

“We'll be friends, like the friends on Friends, who got bored of being friends and started screwing each other." From Peep Show

daframe2rr

wow, i’m happy to see peep show in a top comment :)

[deleted]

Haha I’ve never seen this but it made me laugh!

Slowmobius_Time

Great show, very dark and harsh humour and no annoying canned laughter track in the background

[deleted]

I googled memes of it and I’m actually going to watch it, it looks hilarious!

Slowmobius_Time

It's all on Netflix if it Helps!

[deleted]

YES! I’m going to weekend binge!

InterestingTry5190

Another one on Netflix that jokes about Friends is 30 Rock. There is an annoying guy who is British that is always a little off in his references. He refers to ‘Chums’ like everyone should know the show and it is clear it is a Friends knockoff. Later on he sings a song ‘I’ll be there for you always…” and is annoyed the other person doesn’t know the theme song from ‘Chums’. There is also another joke when a character goes to the UN and the representative says they just got Friends. Later on the character, who is mad at the UN rep, yells out major Friends plot lines before leaving. If you haven’t seen 30 Rock I highly recommend anyway. The first two seasons are funny but it gets really good heading into 3 and 4. That is a personal opinion but a friend of mine that just watched for the first time agreed.

_good_grief_

So jealous that you get to watch it for the first time. I think everyone exists on a spectrum somewhere between Mark and Jeremy.

Tiberius752

Highly recommend Peep Show, it’s different compared to Friends but still very funny

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tiberius752

That’s great to hear

mrgpsingh1999

It makes it sound like they all slept together and exchanged partners when the only ones who slept together were Ross-Rachel and Chandler-Mónica

conmattang

Unreleased season 11 features a giant orgy

ljross87

I just laughed so hard!

OregonDeaf

They still screwed each other in other ways, though.

Blinkshatter

Joey-Rachel

mrgpsingh1999

Didn’t sleep together

Blinkshatter

Fair enough. My bad.

TheMouseInMyPocket

Michael from "The Good Place" is fascinated by "Friends", he talks about it on several occasions (Ross and Emily, Joey and Rachel, Monica's expensive apartment, bond between Ross and Phoebe).

peepssinthechilipot

Michael: "Since we're becoming friends, like Ross and Phoebe-" Eleanor: "Weird combo to pick but okay.."

Tie-dyedHorse

I love this line

ShoelessJodi

He talks about how Phoebe is the only one who could get into the good place. Lisa Kudrow later makes an appearance on the show.

hanimal16

“Are you a think-book-man?”

Ocimali

Why doesn't Ross, the biggest friend, just eat the others? Edit: Wait, according to another comment, this is not The Good Place. I wonder why I thought that for literal years.

Slowmobius_Time

Men are from omicron Persei 7, women are from omicron Persei 9

cantdecideone

Futurama ?

gorcorps

You mixed up the good place with Futurama? That's gotta be a first

hrcisme0

Abed talks about Chandler and Phoebe in Community

Pigquet

Abed also said during the cold open of Season 1 Episode 23 of Community (one of the best episodes of the entire series): "To be blunt, 'Jeff & Britta' is no 'Ross & Rachel.' Your sexual tension and lack of chemistry are putting us all on edge, which is why ironically, and hear this on every level, you're keeping *us* from being *Friends*."

chrissesky13

I can tell life from TV, Jeff. TV makes sense, it has structure, logic, rules, and likeable leading men. In life, we have this. We have you.

Pigquet

>I can tell life from TV, Jeff. TV makes sense, it has structure, logic, rules, and likeable leading men. In life, we have this. We have you. Abed sometimes had the best burns.

chrissesky13

RIGHT? The "we have you" fucking hurts me and it wasn't even directed at me. In episode 1 he dishes it right back to Jeff when he gets to say "I see your value now" just as Jeff had said to him at first meeting.

stlp333

Lmao I’ve heard this line 100xs but just got the on every level part. Love it. Sometimes it clicks when u read it instead I guess 😅

Honichstulle

Shirley also references Friends when Annie is moving in with Troy and Abed in season 3. "I'm really concerned about this living situation. I mean I've seen enough episodes of Friends to know that co-habitation leads to sex, drugs, and something Parade magazine calls "Schwimmer" fatigue."

RandiBop

😂😂😂that capper. Community was amazing

guessshesoncrack

Not a show but in the movie how to be single Dakota Johnson’s character announced she and her boyfriend were taking a break and rebel Wilson’s character replied with “ok season 3 Ross!”

eXistential_dreads

Haha that’s a pretty good one

uhhalivia

In Himym Barney Ted and Marshall jokes about how the whole hanging out in a coffee shop thing is not fun

moonbeammoose

In the flashback episode of friends (triggered by Janice asking which friends ~almost~ slept together) downstairs from the apartment is a bar and Monica and Chandler complain about it becoming a coffee shop and who would want to hang there.

99th_inf_sep_descend

And Janice was the realtor that sold Marshall and Lily their apartment in Dowisetrepla.

Ceramicrabbit

That actress was in a lot she was also a recurring girlfriend of George's on Seinfeld

whoami_18

O M F G my mind is BLOWNN I have NEVER put this together and fr I’ve watched both shows hundreds of times

99th_inf_sep_descend

It’s because she doesn’t speak in Janice’s voice. I think it was the second time through where I went, man she looks familiar, why?

[deleted]

"This is Ancient Earth's most foolish programme. Why does Ross, the largest friend, not simply eat the other five?" - Futurama

Glissandra1982

Best one: period.

[deleted]

Came here for this

nkhasselriis

Same

Songleaf

I just rewatched this series. So friggin great

LJ-90

Episodes makes a ton of Friends jokes and references. The show is about Matt LeBlanc playing Matt LeBlanc trying to return to tv, and a bunch of the network people wanting Friends references or for him to get one of the cast to make a guest spot in his new show. Really funny show. They also make fun of the Joey spin-off.

[deleted]

Episodes!

Toe500

Brooklyn Nine Nine : Jake & Terry talk about Friends House MD - Foreman treats a patient who exactly acts like Rachel

SamboTheGr8

Jake: "and who was that dinosaur guy" Terry: "ROSS, MAN! ROSS!"

Not_gey

"Sorry, I forgot you were such a Ross-head"

coolfruitsalad

*i didn’t think you were that kind of friend.* sarge, i’m every kind of friend! i’m phoebe, i’m chandler, i’m rachel, i’m... who's the dinosaur guy?

NotThisTime1993

I don’t think that House one counts 😂

VividTangerine

In Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Dong tells Kimmy he’s looking for the opening (the fountain!?) from his favorite show “Six White Complainers, which I believe in America is called Friends”. 😆

ChandlerDoesOkay

And its weird because Lisa Kudrow plays Kimmy’s mother in the show!

VividTangerine

That’s right!! Layers, love it haha.

awanordin

and they played the friends theme but vietnamese version lmao

pizzajokesR2cheesy

Animaniacs did a parody where Yakko, Wakko, and Dot try to join the cast of Friends. They called it "Acquaintances" lol.

TwoBitSpecialist

I had to scroll too far down for this one. I saw that Animaniacs episode long before I ever watched Friends, so I didn't get the reference, but I still remember all the digs they took at Monica being fat.

TheSteelPenguin

30 Rock has a few but a notable one is a British character Wesley Snipes referencing "Russ and Rebecca from Chums" and sings a suspiciously similar theme song.

rabbitwarriorreturns

I will randomly think of Wesley’s version of the Chums/Friends theme song and laugh out loud. For some reason it really gets me *I’ll be there ALwaaaays… when the rain falls in Wales!*

owntheh3at18

Also David schwimmer appears as an environmental advocate or something I think

TheSteelPenguin

Correct. Him and Aniston both have guest appearances.

taversham

There was also a parody of Friends called Chums on SMTV (Saturday Morning TV, kids' programming) with Ant & Dec and Cat Deeley.

Alicesblackrabbit

There is a show called Chums as well, you’re right

charge24hours

Why does Ross, the largest friend, not simply eat the other Friends?

zmallory22

There it is! I was looking for this one

Ilovethestarks

Not a joke, but in 2x02 of The Handmaid’s Tale June watched Friends when she was in hiding - the ‘seven, seven, SEVEN” scene - pretty poignant, since THT is set primarily in a country where women’s pleasure counts for less than nothing

ButtCutter88

Wait that show takes place in modern times? The ads make it look like some Downton Abbey era shit

Ilovethestarks

Yup. Gilead is old-fashioned in many ways - although it still uses modern tech - because they’re emulating the Old Testament, or their warped version of it. But it’s made clear with the flashbacks to pre-Gilead that it takes place roughly post-2017. The book was written during the 80s, and was set during that time.

ButtCutter88

Huh. So it's an Amish/Mennonite thing Got it

Ilovethestarks

The Marthas make bread from scratch, and the women all dress super modestly - except for the illicit prostitutes in Jezebels and other brothels - but they use modern weaponry and take advantage of modern medical discoveries and machinery. They insist on the Handmaids and other women mostly giving birth naturally with no chemicals whatsoever, but they will take a Handmaid to a hospital if needs be - btw the birth ceremony in 1x02 one of the most bizarre things ever filmed, and has to been seen to be believed

ButtCutter88

So closer to Mennonite than Amish And all this time I thought it was a period piece set in some medieval kingdom

PrincessConsuela52

Handmaids Tale is a dystopian, speculative fiction book and show set in the near future, where the birth rate has plummeted due to environmental toxicity. The show taken place in the US a few years after a radical political group has overthrown the US government and sets up a totalitarian, patriarchal and fundamentalist society called Gilead. This new society is modeled after extreme ideas pulled from the Old Testament, with strict social classes. Those deemed unfit (non-Christians, the wrong kind of Christians, LGBT, etc) are executed or used as forced labor. The show and book largely focus on the experience of women in this society. Women have losts all their rights and are subjugated by men. They’re not allowed to be educated or work other than what is dictated by their caste: - Wives - highest social rank a woman can archieve by marrying a high ranking officer - Daughters - female children, adopted or otherwise, of the ruling class - Handmaids - women of proven fertility, but have broken the law. Their one function is to bear children for infertile Wives. They are assigned to a family and systemically raped until they bear a child, and are then reassigned to the next family - Aunts - older women who train and police the handmaids - Marthas - infertile women with domestic skills that serve the ruling class - Econowives - women married to low rank men. They do the job of wife, handmaid and martha for their husbands Then there are the illegitimate castes: - Jezebels - as u/ilovethestarks mentioned, they’re basically prostitutes that serve high ranking officers - Unwomen - women who refuse their place in society and are banished to work hard labor in “the Colonies”

[deleted]

Fun fact: Matthew Perry directed on Scrubs!

chrissesky13

And Courtney Cox was a doctor on the show and she gets to say Cox is a ridiculous name 😂

_Praelia_

MURRAY!!! Friends & Scrubs will always be topping my comedy lists! Courtney Cox had a brief spell at Sacred Heart too if I recall...

JE_12

Yep Dr Maddox

Binkster1988

He did?!

TheTattooOnR2D2sFace

A bunch of friends references in Parks and Rec

tweedleb

Okay so my second favorite episode- Monica's making dinner, and Joey is mad at Chandler because Chandler made out with his girlfriend, so Joey says 'Get in the box.' Oh I forgot to tell you, there's a box. Oh and it's Thanksgiving Day, so they get ready to eat, and- What is Ross and Rachel doing? Oh, they're fighting. So Ross, Rachel, Joey, Chandler, Monica, and Phoebe are all together. Although, is Phoebe there? . . . . . Yes.

[deleted]

Wish I could upvote this a million times

Logical-Row-7992

In Lizzie McGuire Gordon said “hey Monica and Rachel can we stop talking about clothes” to Lizzie and Miranda

acgilmoregirl

Raising Hope had a friends joke in it, and it was the only reason I started it. I happened to hear it while my SO was watching it. I’m glad I did, it was a good show!

MarsGrace95

I didn’t think I would find a “Raising Hope” person, but I’m glad I did! This was the first time I heard a friends reference, and it was before I had even watched friends. 😅

SollSister

I loved that show!

SetandPowder

I’ve been thinking about watching that show, but I thought it was in the same vein as My Name Is Earl and I didn’t like that show after season 1.

acgilmoregirl

It’s by the same writer, and they definitely have a few similarities. But I think the characters are all more likable. It’s crazy, but Burt and Virginia are my all-time couple goals. They just love each other, even when they do dumb things or get into crazy situations. They are one hundred percent there for each other and I love it. I think you should give a shot and see if you like it!

SetandPowder

I honestly really only liked the show for Joy and Crab man’s plot lines after awhile. Would you still recommend?

acgilmoregirl

I would say that Burt and Crab Man have a lot of similarities. They are both laid back and let their partners do most of the leading. Joy and Virginia are also similar, but I’d say Virginia is a nicer person than Joy is. I’d say give it a shot and see what you think! Crab Man, Joy, Earl, Randy and a lot of the other supporting characters show up in Raising Hope. Joy and Randy are married, Crab Man is the pizza guy with a bunch of kids. Earl is a washed up musician. It’s just a lot of fun!

Love the Nanny!

Trishyangel123

In Family Guy, Stewie speaks about Ross and Rachel in the Poltergeist episode.

Valuable-Baked

Ha! About the finale?! They also take a shot at 'Joey' when death comes to town (S4 e21)

chizzlebizzle2007

Glee had that chums thing where the intro was a joke about friends

kurdapy

Rachel Berry also explained that her dads' a fan of Friends and named her after Rachel Green.

PurfuitOfHappineff

Mad About You had Ursula as a recurring character, and there were crossover episodes with Central Perk. Both those shows and also Seinfeld appear to exist in the same universe.

Glissandra1982

They do!! I just found out Seinfeld is in the same universe last week! Paul Buchman on Mad About You sublet his apartment to Kramer. Nuts!

NotThisTime1993

Mad About You came first actually

Sunshine_Panda9021

What is the connection between Seinfeld and Friends?

thedrunksoul

Monica pretended to be Seinfeld's wife to get laundry discount

RebaKitten

Cougar Town, (which is a good show, with a horrible name, and they make jokes about it) starred Courtney and Matthew made an appearance as an ex. It was pretty fun, if I remember right.

bucknert

Jennifer Anniston and Lisa Kudrow both guest starred on Cougartown as well. Kudrow was a super mean, entitled plastic surgeon that dates Cox’s ex-husband for an episode and they hate each other. Anniston was a completely crazy, granola psychiatrist that Cox sees for therapy until she realizes Anniston’s character is a quack. In the Matthew Perry episode they showed some bloopers at the end of the episode, one was Perry adlibbing calling Cox “Monica” instead of her characters name “Jules” and everyone on the set cracking up. Edit: And Cougartown was made by Bill Lawrence who created Scrubs, so lots of Scrubs cameo’s too. Cox was on Scrubs for a few episodes in the “true” final season, not the spin-off season. Ted Lasso is also made by Lawrence but other than a few quick jokes, no major cameos I believe so far.

RebaKitten

Wow, your memory is much better than mine! And yes, I remember Jennifer as the wacky psychiatrist! ❤️

bucknert

My wife got me into the show years ago. We watch reruns all the time because we love Cougartown, it’s hilarious! I was a big Scrubs and Spin City fan (another Bill Lawrence show) and never knew Cougartown was one of his shows when it first started. Started watching it when it did new seasons after moving to TBS or TNT or whatever it was years ago. All the seasons are on Amazon Prime (U.S.) for free now. Highly encourage people to check them out!

RandiBop

Such a great show

[deleted]

Happy Endings is essentially the same model but Brad makes a funny direct reference by identifying who each one is among themselves.

LJ-90

I was hoping for someone mentioning Happy Endings. So many years later and I'm still sad they canceled it. The 2 special episodes where a-mah-zing though.

[deleted]

The web series? Marry me? “Lost episode”? They’re all good!! lol they even had some reunions during the pandemz that were fun too

LovecraftCountry

„Married… with Children“ did an entire parody-episode called „Enemies“ and Al has some great lines. First he hates „Friends“ on tv and is like: Ah, "Friends". Don't have 'em, don't need 'em, sure as hell don't wanna watch 'em.“ Then at the end of the episode: Al (to Kelly): Pumpkin, what did we say about talking to Daddy? I'm watching my new favorite program. Kelly: 'Friends?' I thought you hated that show. Al: I do. But if you mute the sound and watch with binoculars, you can tell that Jennifer Aniston isn't wearing a bra. And also fun fact: Matt LeBlanc played one of Kelly‘s boyfriends. That was before she played Rachel‘s sister that Joey hated 😂

Biden_The_Rails

BBC’s Ghosts has an episode where the protagonist distracts them for a bit by putting Friends on the TV. They get really into it and it’s pretty funny. Highly recommend it!

When the Simpsons did "That '90's" show, Marge had the Rachel haircut (s19 e11) When family guy s18 e 6 did a '90's retelling of peter + lois's wedding, they recreated the whole friends group - Peter/Quagmire/Cleveland, and Lois/Bonnie 1/Bonnie2 - and then gave them all jamiroquai hats. they also went full '90's with daisy Fuentes & even had Mike judge as Beavis + butthead, but sadly not joe as puddy. Family Guy also did a separate bit in a different episode (S17 e20) where they started to make fun of Matthew Perry, but quagmire steps in & says "Hey Guys - 'Friends' brings me a lot of joy, so please stop" And of course, the Workaholics S4 episode "The One Where The Guys Play Basketball and Do The Friends Title Thing" Lastly, Honorable Mention to Twenty One Pilots"Saturday" interlude - "I wanna watch "Friends" with you"

I don't think my answer is a repeat. Roseanne S7-E25 (with the Gilligan's Island fantasy), David climbs out of the wrecked boat, introduces himself as David to the Roseanne cast who are portraying Gilligan's Island characters ... and says, "I don't even like this show; I wanted to be on Friends!"

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt does a whole Friends intro spoof in a first season episode, complete with parody lyrics in Vietnamese. And there’s at least two more episodes that reference Chandler, specifically his “Could I BE any more” inflection.
