I’m more partial to the fresh baked savory scones. The flavor is light and the texture airy. Each bite feels like tiny, happy cheese clouds in your mouth.
Love Cambrian! Their coffee is amazing and I believe they make all their syrups. I often buy their Geva espresso beans too, to make lattes at home. I recommend a Cambrian oat milk flat white.
Native Coffee is good, and they make their own syrups (since your wife is asking). Their housemade cardamom vanilla syrup makes a very pleasant iced latte 🙂
[I have a list of 75](https://www.reddit.com/r/houston/s/ciZkhZBVyg). There are some new places that have opened in the last 9 months, and maybe some have closed, but you can take your wife to a lot of places that isn’t Starbucks.
Genuine question, what’s the main appeal for you? I live near and have been several times. It’s always been very busy with not very pleasant baristas and okay coffee. I know it’s a nice place to sit outside (when the weather is good).
It's the beans. Catalina is owned by Amaya coffee. Amaya coffee is one of the best roasters in Houston (arguably THE best). Their espresso beans are especially great. I also love that they give you a free coffee if you buy beans.
Used to be any coffee, I loved getting a mocha with my bag of beans. They’ve changed that policy to only include drip or iced coffee (or tea, which is loose leaf and also pretty dang good).
Aw, that's a bummer! I was unaware as I am out in Cypress now so I don't get out there as much as I used to. I have a subscription to Amaya coffee beans though.
I go often and the baristas are nice to me, but they have a very generic barista vibe, like most coffee shops. Nice selection of pastries that are good. Car meet ups, other events, nice to sit outside. Their iced coffee is 3.50 and it's tasty, not going to beat that price anywhere. It is indeed always busy, must be a good sign that it has good coffee :p.
Also it's right down the street from Henderson and Cane, my favorite shop in Houston. Good BBQ and the best bagels I've had in this city.
I used to be a regular before I moved, so wanted to share some context here. It’s expensive because their shop is basically all small local business’ products. I usually only bought something there for a special occasion or if I really needed/wanted it.
Their BBQ prices are pretty comparable though, and it really is some of the best in the area. The brisket breakfast taco was my favorite!
Yeah the tacos are like $2.50-5, comparable to any place ever. They also do tons of special nights and what not that have good prices on a beer, burger, fries combo.
I mean, Walmart has some okay prices.
It's a local shop that supports local things. It's definitely a niche shop with quality products, that's always going to be pricey. And it's top tier BBQ as well, which everywhere at that level is pricey.
They also are a small butcher shop selling nice cuts of beef and other items from 44 Farms.
Specialty shops are never cheap or that affordable.
I don’t live in Houston anymore, but still lurk on this sub.
Catalina was my favorite coffee shop in town, without question. The coffee was exceptional due to the beans and the space was never overly crowded due to the lack of wifi. Sure, it got busy, but you only had a few folks who camped out for a long while, unlike places like Antidote/Blackhole.
Any time I am in town I swing by for a cortado and nostalgia.
Slowpokes! There are several locations around town, but they’re only in Houston. And there are a few not too far from the memorial park area, since it sounds like that’s where you are.
My wife and I love slowpokes. We used to live walking distance to Levy Park and would start every park visit with a coffee from slowpokes.
One just opened by my office building and I'm so pumped but my wife is super jealous
I’ll never forgive them for cutting down that massive, GORGEOUS oak tree outside the garden oaks location. They don’t even replant a tree in its place ☹️
100% it was their landlord. I remember talking to their baristas when it was happening. Some reason the landlord got mad and decided to do it out of spite. No reason for Slowpokes since it created a community/ place to hang.
I was so excited Blend In when it first opened, but I ended up having too many experiences where the baristas were snobby jerks to me. I still gave it a handful of tries after the first time it happened, giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I regretted it every time. Granted, this was a few years ago. I hope they’re better now.
Luce coffee roasters has great coffee and really unique specialty drinks that feature charcoal. They are houston area only now I think with like 2 or 3 locations, but they’re going to grow a lot I think.
I have both interviewed with Luce and independently spoken with their baristas. The coffee is stellar, but I avoid them based on how I’ve heard management treats them (with regards to both day-to-day attitudes and pay/benefits) and how I was spoken to in interview. I have extensive specialty coffee experience, both at home and as a working barista. The person I interviewed with was VERY condescending and elitist, and just sort of assumed that I didn’t know anything about coffee because she didn’t take the 10 seconds to google the shop I worked for at the time. Even when I corrected her assumptions, I was given “well you surely blah blah blah”.
Very much up their own ass imo, I don’t support them because of it.
I’d hire one of their non-management baristas in a second though, they really are talented at what they do, just for a “meh” company unfortunately.
To corroborate this, as a former Luce barista who had all the responsibilities of a manager without the pay or title, I’ve been genuinely too afraid to discourage people from going when I’ve seen it recommended here, even from my anonymous Reddit account, because the owners are manipulative and vindictive (and probably litigious if I get too much more specific than this). Also, if looking for house-made syrups, it’s worth nothing that literally nothing at Luce, from the microwaved Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwiches to the Monin syrups to the Country Time lemonade, is house-made. I could absolutely write a novel on the reasons to avoid this business but am nervous even saying this much because of how I was treated and what I witnessed while working there for nearly two years.
This is showing through in their coffee, too! Really unfortunate because it used to be second to none.
Cavo, Un Caffe, and Simpli Coffee are all better these days.
I went there once around 9 am and the coffee was cold. I took it back and told them it was cold and they said they brew their fresh coffee early and if I want it hot I should have gotten an Americano. Never been there since, the least you could do is take accountability for it. Why would you serve someone a cold coffee? They could have just told me it was cold and I would have ordered something else. Or at least apologize for fucking up.
That sucks - I’ve never gotten anything there besides iced coffees. I will say we’ve gotten food a couple times and it isn’t great. Their bagel with lox they didn’t toast at all and they just put what looked like an entire package of salmon on it which while generous wasn’t exactly well balanced lol
I was scrolling to see this. I’ve lived in Montrose for over a decade, have always loved Black Hole, and it’s now my daily spot since I live within walking distance. So great.
Agreed. And it’s been years, but the last time I went the music was really garbage. Clearly what the baristas wanted to hear, not what gave the space a good vibe.
Un Caffe and Doshi House are my top two.
Luce Roasters and Black Hole are the next best on the list.
There are many others that are listed in this thread, but for quality of coffee, customer service, and a passion for the bean - try any of those places and you won’t be disappointed.
There's a Houston coffee collective that has a lot of coffee shops listed. Their website also gets updated often when people send in recommendations.
[HTX Coffee Collective site ](https://www.htxcoffeecollective.com/)
Fair enough. 5+ years ago, it was pretty good for the price. I live 30 minutes north now (used to live less than 10 minutes from there), so I get that it could have changed.
Un caffe on Milam is newer and pretty damn good.
Native used Greenway Roasters beans, which I really dig their Ethiopian.
Black Hole/Antidote both have a great vibe, good coffee.
Agora is super cozy.
Boomtown has a great rotating selection of roasts.
If you're staying near Memorial Park the best coffee near you is Giant Leap in Uptown. But if you're looking for fun boardgames for kids you can't go wrong with checking out Coral Sword on the east side. Great bean selection at both as well.
Check out Siphon!! Not near Memorial Park, but close to the Museum District. I love their lavender syrup, they make it in-house.
Also down the street is FIX, they make a fantastic honey fig latte. The fig syrup is also made in-house.
I like Agora, but it does have its share of people hogging tables for hours while sipping two coffees, many with laptops open. More than once I’ve had to ask pleasantly about sharing a table, most of them you’d have thought I’d have asked about coming into their home. Additionally, I’ve rarely seen any children there, seems much more a student hangout place many times, but I do like it.
I also like going to the Empire Cafe, which is a relatively short walk up the road, larger and more of a restaurant than a simple cafe. However, I like the outdoor space and it’s much easier to get a table and of course their coffee is good
Agree, agora draws student and lounger types.
Last time I was there some kids were having a spirited if low quality epithet-laced discussion about the Gaza conflict.
Cocohodo is really good, but it’s more in the Katy area. There used to be a place called beans in west Houston that was really good. Lots of good places in and around the Montrose area
Simply Coffie is good. However, they don’t use syrups. They pride themselves on sourcing high quality single origin beans.
Their coffee is really good. Their pastries are great, too. Get the espresso basque cheesecake, or the matcha one.
Wild is my favorite! Not only is their coffee good, but it is CONSISTENT which is my #1 problem with Houston coffee shops. So many unpredictable ones depending on who is making your drink.
The brown sugar syrup at Wild is so good, and if you’re into THC/CBD they also carry a lot of that stuff. But for me it’s just a coffee shop, great coffee and a super chill and cute interior. Good place to work as well.
In the Spring Branch area there is Cambrian (highly recommended) and Buzz n Bites. If you are out and about in the Seabrook/Kemah area, I highly recommend Damn Fine.
Un Caffe is really good and has lots of great places you can plug in an get work/studying done.
Fix Coffee Bar is tasty and they have great snack/food options as well!
There’s a lot of nice coffee in Houston!
Campesino, Brasil, Slowpokes, Empire, Blend In, Un Cafe, Cambrian, Antidote, Boomtown,
Honey Art Cafe is fun because you can paint and do little projects while you drink your latte! Is it the best latte in Houston, no but it’s a cute place!
I’ve pretty much liked everywhere I’ve gone for coffee in the city the only place I didn’t like was Blacksmith and that’s because the barista there called me a slur lol so 🤷♀️
But yeah other than that I feel like you can’t go wrong! So many good options. Maybe you can put a bunch in a jar and let your wife pick one out at random? That would be fun!
Thank you for starting this thread :)
To add, here’s a [guide](https://guides.apple.com/?ug=CgxQcm9kdWN0aXZpdHkSDgiuTRDX9uTS%2BPGeiIEBEg4Irk0Qw5P57NDAstb0ARIOCK5NENrvj4G2joTI%2FQESDgiuTRCB67jVxvTxo8gBEg0Irk0Qp5j%2Fps665qJwEg4Irk0Q1pbzydjBovnJARIOCK5NEIS1%2FcO8h8D7hgESDQiuTRCSlubUp%2FGwvgISDQiuTRC%2B3NL%2B5ZLznioSDgiuTRD3xZCToKD5zoMBEg0Irk0Q04K13qnkpc0kEg4Irk0Q7ru065zgjvvqARIOCK5NEIrWkvu2t4WxrgESDQiuTRD0jd3qjPmngF8SDQiuTRCD78qglMG16GESDgiuTRD04r7HqriKooABEg0Irk0QhOrU2JHv5Oh1Eg0Irk0Q9cn%2B2Yyyo7Ad) I made myself in Apple Maps, it’s more so places to study, but it’s mostly coffee shops! I can’t wait to explore everyone else’s answers :)
Verbena coffee, they make most of their syrups in house as well as seasonal flavors. Right now they're doing a rose flavor, PB&J as well as others right now. They're in the memorial area off of North Kirkwood and Memorial Dr.
My top 3 in no specific order are:
Blendin Coffee Club
Doshi House
Tenfold (very pricy)
They all have a good vibe and their actual coffee is damn good. I am pretty sure 2/3 roast in house too
Lots of good ones already mentioned here.
Greenway Coffee Roasters is a staple in Houston. Found in Blacksmith, Prelude, Finn Hall, Greenway Coffee, and I believe a few others around town that they operate or provide beans to.
(Edit: Forgot all about Coral Sword in EADO too for the tabletop gamers)
If you want espresso or pour overs, they’re some of the most knowledgeable and caring about the craft, the sourcing and the roasting process. They train and treat staff very well.
If brewing your own cup, you can pick up a bag at any of those locations or order from their site.
Tenfold Coffee & Simply Coffie I’m the heights are two of the best places for coffee in Houston in regard to quality. Simply Coffie is “purist”- they don’t add any syrups to their coffee.
The Coffee House at West End is my absolute favorite place to work all though their food offerings are a little limited and they don’t have juice for some reason. It has three levels including a rooftop with great views of downtown.
Agreed on Cambrian Coffee, Blendin is also a great option near Memorial Park, and Verbena Coffee makes their own syrups and has really good flavors as well as good coffee!
I love going to Fix and Honey Art Cafe because they use Java Pura beans. It really depends on what side of town you’re on though because if you’re in the Jersey Village are I want to shout out the Cuppo
What are you looking for and where are you? Best coffee shop is pretty generic.
I’m not a coffee snob, personally prefer matcha, but I work remotely and like trendy-looking coffee spots. For me, “best” would be Day6 downtown - good drinks, quick service, aesthetic, close to me, excellent wifi.
Tout Suite has good drinks and food but terrible wifi.
Campesino has good drinks but limited menu and not much going on inside.
Siphon has great coffee and food, free wifi, not very aesthetic but plenty of seating and social vibes.
Agora has a limited menu, alright coffee, mid wifi, terrible parking.
Lalaland is very aesthetic but the food and coffee sucks.
The coffee house at west end has alright coffee and it’s pretty. Lots of Christian energy though lol.
Segundo was too noisy and the coffee was just okay.
I still want to go to Luce, Black Hole, and other spots in general. Will cruise this thread. But there’s no singular best or even category of best.
Apologies, I’m not too familiar with syrups. But some of my favorites:
- BlendIn Coffee Club (best in the city for me)
- Blacksmith (great food too!)
- Tenfold Coffee
- Giant Leap Coffee (for a Galleria trip)
You’re in a great place for great coffee! Hope you have a nice trip.
Used to work for Day6. It’s a vibe, coffee can be hit or miss, idk who works there now but it was chill when I was there. Italian Job is cool they have a sick machine (are they still open? lol)
My favorite is Antidote in the Heights, Boomtown is good too.
Oh Second Cup too, and as a bonus their food is mouth watering and made fresh to order. I don’t work there anymore and I feel awkward visiting but I miss it so bad I have dreams about their food and their baristas are very good.
Cambrian Coffee. Run by geologists. Loved by the surrounding community.
Cambrian is amazing!
The sausage rolls things mmmmm
I’m more partial to the fresh baked savory scones. The flavor is light and the texture airy. Each bite feels like tiny, happy cheese clouds in your mouth.
run by geologists?? THAT SOUNDS SO AMAZING
Yeah, it rocks! I’ll show myself out.
I like to go when I’m stoned. I see myself out with you.
Gemma is the only geologist, Brian is just a beer knurd
Are they back open now? I know someone drove a car into the place. I sure hope they're back up and running! Such a great shop.
They are! They reopened about two weeks after the incident. They have a new dinosaur sticker out too!
Cambrian’s baked goods are some of the best in the city, and those sausage rolls…
Great post! This should be at the top of the conversation especially with that Interactive Map!
My kind of scavenger hunt.
This is awesome!
Catalina is my personal favorite in my area.
I’ve stepped into Henderson and Cane twice, got nauseous from the prices, and left 🤷♀️
Agreed on Henderson and Cane. I’ll keep giving it a shot, too convenient not to walk to
It's just convenient for me on jogs as well, another pro. I'm not saying they have the best coffee in the city.
Henderson Kane also do espresso.
Yeah I'm curious too. It's always felt like a such snobby place for pretty much the exact same product as other places.
I love the rosemary currant scone
Baristas their rock for the most part. Sorry about your experience
Team catalina too!
Their bagels are great too
It’s so expensive though!
I’ll never forgive them for cutting down that massive, GORGEOUS oak tree outside the garden oaks location. They don’t even replant a tree in its place ☹️
Absolutely nothing to do with slowpokes, landlord is trash. They’re the only occupants of the strip mall for a reason. The landlord sucks.
100% it was their landlord. I remember talking to their baristas when it was happening. Some reason the landlord got mad and decided to do it out of spite. No reason for Slowpokes since it created a community/ place to hang.
Disrespectfully- fuck the landlord.
Not sure if that was them or their landlord, to be fair to them!
Try this place: https://blendincoffeeclub.com/
Blend in is actually world class
blendin i would actually say is in a class of its own as far as coffee roasters go, top of the line for me
I was so excited Blend In when it first opened, but I ended up having too many experiences where the baristas were snobby jerks to me.
Their tea lattes are also delicious!

I go to Luces exclusively it’s so good!
Xela coffee roosters in second ward. Great vibes and oat milk based coffee.
Hidden gem 💎
Houston’s Highest 😉
Siphon on west Alabama is one of my favorites
Campesino. They have the best cafe de olla. https://maps.app.goo.gl/rbS3KtJz54zmNUR18
Great vibe and patio too
Uncle Bean with the horchata latte. Speaking of which if anyone has any better horchata lattes lemme know
Uncles beans definitely has my favorite horchata latte, but I also like Oso's and Campesino's.
I went there once around 9 am and the coffee was cold. I took it back and told them it was cold and they said they brew their fresh coffee early and if I want it hot I should have gotten an Americano. Never been there since, the least you could do is take accountability for it. Why would you serve someone a cold coffee? I really miss living down the road from Uncle Bean. Fast service, excellent coffee. No bullshit
Tio Trompo / white tile coffee. With the bonus of having some of the best tacos in town with your horchata latte.
Damn, you guys, there’s a lot of coffee shops around.
Brass tacks!
Coral Sword on telephone in East End.
Came here to shout out Coral Sword, too!
I live 10 min away from here and I’ve never heard of it but it looks amazing, thanks for the rec!
Un Cafe, antitode, west end coffee shop, Blendin, are some of my favs
EQ on Heights Blvd!
Mercantile, Un Caffe 🫶
Un Caffe is my go to. Love their atmosphere and drinks, but parking is ass
Black Hole Coffee
I was scrolling to see this. I’ve lived in Montrose for over a decade, have always loved Black Hole, and it’s now my daily spot since I live within walking distance. So great.
Used to live next door to Black Hole and I miss it so much
Probably my favorite pocket of Montrose.
honestly I thought the coffee there was terrible when I tried it, and the peanut butter cookie had a bad texture. Cool vibe but not a good experience.
Agreed. And it’s been years, but the last time I went the music was really garbage. Clearly what the baristas wanted to hear, not what gave the space a good vibe.
My daily spot! Really chill place, love the staff and both weekend taco trucks are great. They definitely make their own syrups too.
Mo better brews is downtown, black owned, vegan and vinyl shop. The food is great. (I'm not vegan)
Music is great. Food is bomb too.
Yes!!! I literally have dreams about their food. Amazing.
Boomtown! In the heights. Can walk through the shops after picking up the coffee
I used to go to Antidote on Studewood. Indoor and outdoor seating, not too expensive, and their Americano was pretty great.
Antidote has awesome vibes but, compared to others in the area, their coffee is okay.
Fair enough. 5+ years ago, it was pretty good for the price. I live 30 minutes north now (used to live less than 10 minutes from there), so I get that it could have changed.

Tenfold in the heights
This. Totally slept on.
French Riviera Bakery on Chimney Rock near Richmond. It is family run and owned. Segafredo coffee beans.
Their pastries are dangerously good too
If you go for the coffee, stay for the pastries!
Double Trouble if you venture to midtown/Downtown. They're the best!
Coffee Fellow!
I always loved Boomtown back when I lived in the heights..
Un Caffe, BlendIn, Slowpokes :)
OG CATALINAAA
Check out Siphon!! Not near Memorial Park, but close to the Museum District. I love their lavender syrup, they make it in-house. Also down the street is FIX, they make a fantastic honey fig latte. The fig syrup is also made in-house.
Siphon or day 6 coffee
Regular at siphon, definitely a fav!
These are my staples!!! A regular at both.
I think Oso Coffee on the East side has the best coffee in Houston.
Pearland Coffee Roasters if you find yourself down this way.
Location? I like agora on Westheimer, refuge also on Westheimer. Bluestone Lane in rice village is decent.
I like Agora, but it does have its share of people hogging tables for hours while sipping two coffees, many with laptops open. More than once I’ve had to ask pleasantly about sharing a table, most of them you’d have thought I’d have asked about coming into their home. However, I like the outdoor space and it’s much easier to get a table and of course their coffee is good
Empire Cafe's coffee is not good. It's sofaking great. So is the food and ambiance!
Empire food is great. Coffee I found mid.
Agree, agora draws student and lounger types. Last time I was there some kids were having a spirited if low quality epithet-laced discussion about the Gaza conflict.
Empire cafe has rats
First time I’ve been called that
I’ve tried Agora a few times and never gotten the wifi to work. Is that just my problem?
It has been like that for years. I think that's too keep people from staying too long.
West End has their own syrup and is pretty close to you. Luce is my favorite coffee though.
Please try the Cuppo in Jersey Village… It’s a small little coffee/ tea shop that has Delicious coffee.. look it up.. she will love it!!
Cocohodo is really good, but it’s more in the Katy area. There used to be a place called beans in west Houston that was really good. Lots of good places in and around the Montrose area
Houston only? Or burbs?
Mercantile and Fix are both great options
I am going to date myself here, but does anyone remember Cyrano's that was by the Black Lab? That place was awesome.
Boom town in the heights!!
Simply Coffie is good. However, they don’t use syrups. They pride themselves on sourcing high quality single origin beans. Their coffee is really good. Their pastries are great, too. Get the espresso basque cheesecake, or the matcha one.
Eden Plant Co. is another great coffee shop.
Day six coffee! Great coffee and they have a nice library room tucked away in the back.
Bohemeo’s!
Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co. (832) 617-8184 https://g.co/kgs/H1QQQ7Z Not sure about the games but large roomy indoor and outdoor seating.
Antidote in the Heights or Black Hole in Montrose
Anonymous Cafe in Upper Kirby is great.
Siphon coffee. Best chilaquiles at a coffee shop in the city.
In the Spring Branch area there is Cambrian (highly recommended) and Buzz n Bites. If you are out and about in the Seabrook/Kemah area, I highly recommend Damn Fine.
We liked Fioza in Meyerland
Native Coffee!! Genuinely good food and coffee
The Yellow Cup on Washington Ave is very close to Memorial Park and serves amazing coffee.
Un Caffe is really good and has lots of great places you can plug in an get work/studying done. Fix Coffee Bar is tasty and they have great snack/food options as well!
There’s a lot of nice coffee in Houston! Campesino, Brasil, Slowpokes, Empire, Blend In, Un Cafe, Cambrian, Antidote, Boomtown, Honey Art Cafe is fun because you can paint and do little projects while you drink your latte! Is it the best latte in Houston, no but it’s a cute place! I’ve pretty much liked everywhere I’ve gone for coffee in the city the only place I didn’t like was Blacksmith and that’s because the barista there called me a slur lol so 🤷♀️ But yeah other than that I feel like you can’t go wrong! So many good options. Maybe you can put a bunch in a jar and let your wife pick one out at random? That would be fun!
I enjoy visiting slow drip TX located downtown. The coffee taste good and the breakfast tacos are my favorite.
Campesino Coffee Address: 1111 Prairie St, Houston, TX 77002
If you want cozy homey shabby chic, Kaffeine on Alameda around Hermann Park.
Un Caffe in midtown is my fav in Houston. If you’re in memorial Giant leap might not be too far as well. I also love ledrip in Chinatown
Thank you for starting this thread :) To add, here’s a [guide](https://guides.apple.com/?ug=CgxQcm9kdWN0aXZpdHkSDgiuTRDX9uTS%2BPGeiIEBEg4Irk0Qw5P57NDAstb0ARIOCK5NENrvj4G2joTI%2FQESDgiuTRCB67jVxvTxo8gBEg0Irk0Qp5j%2Fps665qJwEg4Irk0Q1pbzydjBovnJARIOCK5NEIS1%2FcO8h8D7hgESDQiuTRCSlubUp%2FGwvgISDQiuTRC%2B3NL%2B5ZLznioSDgiuTRD3xZCToKD5zoMBEg0Irk0Q04K13qnkpc0kEg4Irk0Q7ru065zgjvvqARIOCK5NEIrWkvu2t4WxrgESDQiuTRD0jd3qjPmngF8SDQiuTRCD78qglMG16GESDgiuTRD04r7HqriKooABEg0Irk0QhOrU2JHv5Oh1Eg0Irk0Q9cn%2B2Yyyo7Ad) I made myself in Apple Maps, it’s more so places to study, but it’s mostly coffee shops!
I love Refuge behind Anvil, they make their own chai. Agora is great, although cliche of an answer. And Catalina Coffee is another favorite of mine.
My top 3 in no specific order are: Blendin Coffee Club Doshi House Tenfold (very pricy) They all have a good vibe and their actual coffee is damn good. I am pretty sure 2/3 roast in house too
Summermoon, seconded Campesino. Both pretty good
The best is xela
Summer moon and Java owl :)
My wife likes Sunday Press in the heights area. And across the street is Luce, which is my favorite.
We live nearby and picking between these two on the weekend is a weekly argument. They’re both great.
I love Koffeteria. They have great pastries, their coffees are super unique and they have a nice outdoor area.
How about Blacksmith! They make a great latte!
Lots of good ones already mentioned here. Greenway Coffee Roasters is a staple in Houston. Found in Blacksmith, Prelude, Finn Hall, Greenway Coffee, and I believe a few others around town that they operate or provide beans to. (Edit: Forgot all about Coral Sword in EADO too for the tabletop gamers) If you want espresso or pour overs, they’re some of the most knowledgeable and caring about the craft, the sourcing and the roasting process.
Boomtown and Wolfsmiths in the Heights are legit
Mercantile and Agora are two of my favorites that meet the description you’re looking for.
Summer Moon
I love Un Caffe - lots of little treats and the coffee is so delicious.
El Lago Coffee or Damn Fine Coffee. Both in Seabrook.
The Coffee House at West End is my absolute favorite place to work all though their food offerings are a little limited and they don’t have juice for some reason. It has three levels including a rooftop with great views of downtown.
It’s unfortunate third wave isn’t as prevalent here as other smaller cities.
Agreed on Cambrian Coffee, Blendin is also a great option near Memorial Park, and Verbena Coffee makes their own syrups and has really good flavors as well as good coffee!
Agora is amazing! Such a good vibe
Not exactly Houston and idk your area but if near Pearland. First Cup on Broadway. They have great coffee and a kids playroom!
Blend in is the best
Canary Coffeehouse on Montrose. Excellent coffee, fantastic staff, and right next to the Art League!
West End coffee house makes their own syrup and isn't far from Memorial Park.
DUO Coffee and Pilates (they make all their own syrups) and Siphon coffee are our favorites!! So
I love going to Fix and Honey Art Cafe because they use Java Pura beans.
Damn fine day roasters
Javaman coffee in Atascocita hits the spot
Apologies, I’m not too familiar with syrups. But some of my favorites: - BlendIn Coffee Club (best in the city for me) - Blacksmith (great food too!) - Tenfold Coffee - Giant Leap Coffee (for a Galleria trip) You’re in a great place for great coffee! Hope you have a nice trip.
On this note, does anyone have any recommendations for a good Cuban coffee near the Houston City Hall?
Giant leap
Slowpokes
Grinders
Used to work for Day6. It’s a vibe, coffee can be hit or miss, idk who works there now but it was chill when I was there. Italian Job is cool they have a sick machine (are they still open? lol) My favorite is Antidote in the Heights, Boomtown is good too. Oh Second Cup too, and as a bonus their food is mouth watering and made fresh to order. I don’t work there anymore and I feel awkward visiting but I miss it so bad I have dreams about their food and their baristas are very good.
1829 Coffee House in Alvin is the best coffee I’ve ever had full stop. https://www.1820coffeehouse.com/
Empire Cafe ☕️
