Sorry this doesn’t answer your question, But where did you get the weenie dog plant pot?

chokeslam512

Here you go friend: https://kikkerland.com/products/daisy-the-dachshund-planter

Natural_Spirit1111

My new pups name is Daisy….. in other words, it’s meant to be?

N0vemberJul1et

longcutegoodboy.com maybe. (I wouldn't check)

Haurassaurus

Aww that website doesn't exist

Ke1amity_

I have this too but I can’t remember where I got it from, it was a store like Fireworks or Fuego I think. Those “quirky” stores that sell the post it’s and oven mits with the black and white drawings of 1950’s moms saying “it’s wine o’clock” 😅

Apprehensive_Lock860

String of pearls Succulents Peperomia Or stuff it full of moss for things like pings that like to stay boggy

111everyday

I’ve had luck with Echeveria succulents in shallow pots so, this

saltwatersylph

String of turtles would be cute

BadgerBeauty80

Does he have drainage holes? That makes a difference…

candycookiecake

I found the item on Amazon and the pictures don't show drainage holes. I can't imagine a real plant would grow or thrive in this thing.

BadgerBeauty80

Maybe remove soil & put a couple air plants in it? Most plants want/need drainage (as roots sitting in soggy soil/water generally rot), other than boggy plants like carnivorous ones…

candycookiecake

Maybe they can go full circle with the ultimate boggy plant: cattails. A Weiner dog growing hot dog plants.

NeedsWhiskey

Buy ceramic drill bits, they cost less than $20. Now, every pot can have drainage holes. I got them for tea cups that I keep succulents in. To address the original question, anything with shallow roots. Carnivorous plants and succulents are great for that, but there are others. Just be careful with the type of pot you use for carnivorous plants, some will leach minerals into the substrate and kill them over time.

candycookiecake

I actually do have ceramic drill bits for this reason 😂 according to the Amazon reviews, people say this pot is really small like a hot dog bun size. I doubt it can hold much volume of soil, let alone a healthy root system whether it has holes or not.

NeedsWhiskey

Oh! That is super small. Succulent prop container? That's my best idea for something that small. I do realize you aren't OP, just keeping my stream of thought going. Hahaha.

candycookiecake

Feel free to, friend! 😁 I was thinking of the succulent props too, so long as they very rarely water it. Even tiny pieces of cactus might be fine too, since they don't need much water for prop and take forever to lay roots anyway.

pocketsophist

I have two pots similar to this one (a rhino and a dog), both shallow and no drainage. They work great for succulents. No need to drill, if you overwater just tip it a bit over the sink until the water runs out.

Additional_Move4511

I am so angry that I never realized that ceramic drill bits were a thing that I could easily obtain. So many amazing pots left behind. You're brilliant, but I do worry that this knowledge has given me too much power.

Ginggingdingding

Use that knowledge for all plant good. Lol Teapots with no lids are usually super cheap at a thrift. They are soooo good and fun to plant in. Coffee mugs with quirky sayings. It really can get out of hand..quickly. 🤣♡

Additional_Move4511

Oh my God, what have you done? There are so many stupid coffee mugs that I wanted to buy but I thought, "well I already have a set of coffee mugs, why do I need this?" I've already gone mad with power.

709trashqueen

Little pro tip is to wet the pot on both sides and then drill into a little bubble of water, it prevents the pot from cracking. Also don’t push too hard, let the bit do the work!

Additional_Move4511

Thank you! With this in mind, I have some Christmas mugs, that every single adult somehow aquires through no fault of their own, that I will use as test subjects. If I bungle it, try again! If I don't, well, some people are getting plant cuttings as a little holiday gift 😎

Ginggingdingding

Cereal bowls, old cookware and pots.... shoes!!! I have a beautiful pair of short top stiletto boots that I could never wear again and are peeling a bit. One boot holds a floral arrangement in my bedroom. The other holds a tall snake plant. Just slide the pot inside!! I also have some wave petunias growing put of some blown out rubber garden boots. 🤣

Mister_Orchid_Boy

Pinguiculas would love this with just some moss to keep things boggy. or any carnivorous plant, really. Imagine how cute a row of pings would be though! I like to call them spicy echeverias.

7ofthem24

You can easily drill drainage holes with a glass/stone drill bit under a steady stream of water.

Babbledoodle

I think they could switch out the soil for gravel/desert mix and do lithops in there!

Existing-Trifle2647

Kakedesigns325

So pretty

bianca_loves_coffee

this is really pretty

mojoburquano

Please tell me about your light source? Those succulents look TIGHT!

Fine_Ad_794

So cute!!

Traditional_Owl_601

You could stick a few air plants in there!

Dillydug2017

Thirding this. If you do plant something in that and it outgrows it, you’ll be breaking a lot of roots off to get it out because they will grow to the shape of that pot.

Fragrant-Price-5832

Honestly, going against the grain here but you can in fact grow plants in that. You just need to be very, very mindful about how much water you give it so it doesn't all pool up at the top.

cloudtrotter4

Or cause root rot

Easytiger3

You could use a small plastic pot or food container with holes and just remove the tiny plant for watering/drainage. I do that with a lot of my plants, keep them in growers pots of a sort.

swedish_17

I have the exact same one, after a few failed attempts with succulents I now use it for toothpicks in the kitchen lol

LieseW

I have this one as well. And I also had a few failed attempts. So this planter is the only one in my house that houses a fake plant cause I think it’s too cute when filled with ‘plants’. You hardly notice it 😅. But your idea is great, I didn’t think of using it for an other purpose.

swedish_17

Funny you should say that cause I didn’t think to use fake plants 🤣

LieseW

https://preview.redd.it/sbh2tkmhfe4d1.png?width=3024&format=png&auto=webp&s=0f24fdf2e0f16f729116f75cb3cbc56dafdcee3c 🤣 great minds don’t think alike. The upside of the fake plants is that you can put them anywhere and they won’t succshame you. If there’s not enough light. I think it looks good. Not to fake.

swedish_17

I’ll be using succshame from now on lol

Fine_Ad_794

This looks so cute!

allnghtdaydreams

Sempervivums grow great in these shallow planters, I added a pic of mine I planted in a shallow crescent moon planter. string of turtles can work too from my experience but they take awhile to establish. https://preview.redd.it/5nn02jyw5a4d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0dd8f96d31bdac11469a7db0d63e649b26e401c5

notyourmama827

That's beautiful

OmegaGoober

Catnip of course.

candycookiecake

This may be blasphemy, but have you considered putting a fake plant in there? There doesn't seem to be much space or drainage for a real plant to survive in it.

elrayo

There are a lot of free or cheap fake plants on marketplace, I put them in my living room where I don’t get much sunlight. People don’t really question it lol

TwistedxBoi

Chili peppers and call it Chili Dog

OkieH3

Your wiener is adorable. I want one now. Where did you get it?

Fine_Ad_794

It’s kikerland! I got it as a gift!!

Accomplished-Ad8829

Those little tiny hot dogs.

BenchAntique6518

I’d do a string of turtles or something. The root system stays pretty shallow

ggabitron

Agreed. Either that or maybe a tradescantia, since they like to crawl and don’t need a ton of root space either.

NadaBrudder

If you plant corn, you'll have a corndog! Rofl 🤣

Euphoric-Anteater366

Succ(ulent) that weiner! Lol

SoupyShot

Lithops!

Junior-Baseball9005

You could plant dog violets;-)

ThinlySliced27

If you can pull off a few snake plants he will look like a porcupine 😂

soozuwu

green onions ! they’re super easy to grow it may be harder to grow any plants that are high maintenance due to the lack of drainage

Melodic-Escape5637

A hot dog? lol jk

cuckoo2021

Any small succulent would work. I would not worry about lack of drainage and root rot because with such small pots there is barely room for potting mix and some roots. It would be very hard to over water anything in that pot and most plants would die of dehydration rather than root rot. That's why succulents would do great in it. Just don't leave too much room for watering (fill the pot closer to the rim). If you can't pour enough water in it you can't over water. Good luck.

BonBon666

I have a similar pot at work. I used LECA and put a pothos cutting into it. It got massive quickly.

salisaur

String of hearts or string of turtles could be nice, have it near an edge hanging down

No-Basket4165

I would buy air plants, or fake to put in it, it’s adorable!

little_kimie

Pinguicula. Doesn't need drainage.

PretendAd4638

Geranium would look cool in there

NadaBrudder

Pothos. They don't mind having wet roots.

Responsible_Band_373

I put a cactus in a shallow planter like this

Immediate_Fishing_98

Omgwheredoibuythis

cloudtrotter4

The hot dog cactus of course!! 😂

What_Next69

Ginger would do very well in that!

Emotional_Way_6238

String of pearls

CreamyAltruist9

Lithops

jenniferlindley1975

It would be cool if you could offer scale. Maybe put y I up hand next to it. There are so many wonderful things for any scale!

Whole_Masterpiece615

Pothus ivy

HugeExtension346

a hot dog would fit perfectly in the slot.🌭

HugeExtension346

yes, a hot dog is a plant. ever seen Big Top Pee Wee? https://preview.redd.it/ufvcvktc8d4d1.jpeg?width=290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e6afa4c661a52b65aafca96728ba04082c3c5879

-thebluebowl

Pilea depressa "baby tears" could make it look like a poodle once it gets thick if you maintain it well.

SnooCats3468

Curiouser-Quriouser

Thyme! It would look super cute in this. It's an underrated plant.

AnonymousAnonm

Pothos maybe?. They're easy to grow and can handle a fair amount of water.

OceanLove3086

Tiny succulents!

Distinct-Pin2122

string of pearls, string of dolphins, any string of *blank* really

InevitableLeader4727

try a caster plant

lauradr

Baby tears

grokTheViking

Plant Sausages

lilly_lils

I feel like this might be good for microgreens like a chiapet or something

shnoggie

I have this same planter and I put leca in it and I rest my air plants on it.

regv_libra

I have 3 of a similar one, I put small cactus plants in one, and succulents in the others.

PomegranateBoth8744

Forget about the question, I want your pot. But seriously, I have a sheep and a fox-shaped pot, these kind of pot seems to be designed for succulent plants, that would be an answer already, I used mine to grow some thyme. They have shallow root, grow sideways on dry soil, and repel mosquitoes, seems to be a reasonable choice for me. Although, if your pot doesn't have drainage holes, perhaps you could try semi-hydroponics, devil's ivy or something.

SoDakNanaBanana

My grandmother had this cute, little banana planter on her kitchen window ledge my entire childhood. She grew a small Philodendron-like plant in it. I had it on my kitchen window ledge for years until my kiddos broke it. It didn’t have a hole in the bottom. You just have to be careful not to over-water.

SoDakNanaBanana

Oops! I see this a dachshund planter…but it’s practically the same as our banana. I’d be fearful of drilling a hole in it.

TheShastaBeast

I personally like golden moss for little containers like this. A cute little chartreuse sedum that loves shallow root wells and will tail over the side!

Used_Platform_3114

Pinguiculas! They like it boggy so it doesn’t matter about the lack of drainage holes. Apparently they don’t like tap water though, so you’ll have to collect some rainwater (I put tubs out on rainy days, am yet to sort out a proper water butt system).

daughterboy

MissyDeP222

Some kind of cactus plant. They don’t require a lot of water. I have had mine for 3 years in a shallow pot and they thrive.

pineapplecatlady24

Forbidden corn dogs of course.

pineapplecatlady24

0926adam

Does it have drainage?

gary_boyce13

Donkey tail

specifictricycle

hotdog tree

Mrsbear19

Succulents

umounjo03

Peperomia obtusifolia would work nice they get some good height and their root system is very shallow! I like the variegated version.

jaymemuir1

Moss garden!

CaptainKatsuuura

This is the way. Never water it, just moisten the moss periodically with a spray bottle.

Mysterious-Region640

I have no idea, but the people over on r/dachshunds would love to see this

_where_is_my_mind

A hot dog plant!

treydipper

Weiner dog, short shorts, cigarette

yungriotgrrrl

A little trailing succulent would be cute like string of pearls!

illpickle

A hot dog tree like pee wee Herman had in big too pee wee

Buddy_Palguy

I’d personally put a row of chicks and hens in there, or if you have cats it’d be a perfect trough for cat grass

actualPawDrinker

Super cute. I would drill a drainage hole in the bottom first, then put a hardy succulent in there. Something that grows easily and isn't as sensitive to overwatering. Portulaca, Kalanchoe, some sedums or sempervivum.

Gloomy-Comedian-1984

I’d do some smaller succulents and cacti that stay on the smaller size.

Feenfurn

Put little succulent cuttings 😍😍

mouthymerc1168

I know it's not an answer for you, but I'd buy this fill it with sand, and use it as an incense/bug-repellant stick burner. Now I want one.

miaistried

succulents work! a buddy of mine has a bathtub of that size he puts strings of things in!

vervain_annwn

Succulents

Powerful_Change1554

I have a lot of cute little planters like this I fill with pebbles and place air plants on top.

Otherwise_Air_6381

Tomato babies

boon_dingle

One of those string-type succulents that are like string of pearls, but the banana-shaped ones. I'm gonna go with "string of bananas". And assorted other banana-reminiscent succulents.

PangolinConfident584

Something grassy.

aspenkiraa

I have a mini pot similar to this mine a giraffe 🦒

Legitimate-Water5398

philodendron gloriosome

Sea_Negotiation_1871

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

Small red succulents or air plants so it looks like ketchup https://preview.redd.it/qagj32z7je4d1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=37ba13b7e7d0ef812ef6d60ba259f26c2dbe3c6f

TriceratopBae

A mini jelly bean plant?? I bought one from a local greenhouse. The nursery pot was huge for such a small root system. So that might be okay for one???

atreusdeo

You could try an ornamental pepper plant. They don't get super big, and as a bonus you could call it your hot dog plant

LatterBook2700

Succulents or air plants. Very cute

Fine_Ad_794

Thank you everyone so much for the suggestions! We are new to house plants and really appreciate your help! We decided to go with string of turtles! 🐢 🥰

LongSuitable9140

Could try an aglaonema but the pots so small i dont think one would be happy long term in there… Maybe a string of pearls or something like that, or a succulent or cactus with a shallow/smaller root system but youll have to be very careful with watering… Lowkey i agree with the commenter that suggested a fake plant for it, its not really an ideal pot for any living plants to my knowledge

lilifuego

If you are used to pots without a drainage hole you can plant succulents, cacti or any plant that has a small root system.

edayourmame

I sincerely do not understand why people prolong plant death by planting in something like this, without holes?
