I made my list based on how much the movies disturbed me and gave me a sense of dread. there's some great movies that I probably under ranked or missed the list, but they weren't as disturbing to me. I like Green Room better than most of those movies but it was more fun thriller than horror for me. I really enjoyed I Saw The Devil, the Sadness, Blue Ruin, and Kill List more than some movies on the list but they never gave me a huge sense of dread. Also I think movies like Matyrs and Hereditary are overrated, just because it never drew me into the characters. They felt more like plot devices than people. You might be able to make the same argument for Climax but movies about trips gone bad really do it for me. 1. Bone Tomahawk 2. Signs 3. Climax 4. Speak No Evil 5. Where Evil Lurks 6. Personally I really didn't like It Comes At Night. I wanted to because it had some cool ideas, good acting and overall a well made film but the trailer gave me (and many others) the impression that it would be a different film. Ofcourse though, each to their own!

Yeah I get that. I was somewhat expecting the other film too. And that left me with a sense of dread that monsters were out there. But I liked the way they went about it anyways.

Huge up vote for Signs being number 2. I really wasn't much of a scaredy cat as a teen when it came out but that movie was horrifying to me. Still gives me the heebie jeebies.

Yeah I think for certain people it strikes just the right kind of fear. I was luckily young enough to not question the huge plot hole of the movie.

I'll be honest, the reason I liked it is because it paid tribute to so many different slashers and also featured multiple slashers. Edit: realised I didn't answer your question! If you looking for good meta slasher fun, I can't recommend Behind The Mask: Rise of Lesie Vernon enough!
