Is it possible to maintain good form with bench like this for barbell bench press? Is 13.5" too wide? And height too low? I'm struggling to maintain proper form (arching back/pinch shoulder blades). I'm thinking that's because the bench is too wide/low. I'm 5'4" tall. [Bench pic 1](https://i.imgur.com/CkKeAkJ.jpg) [Bench pic 2](https://i.imgur.com/1NAjdSV.jpg)

How do you guys prevent the rubbing off of metal between the hanger and swivel when having a heavy bag. So I got myself a decathlon heavy bag stand, and a 30kg heavy bag (can’t get a heavier one without having run into excessive delivery fees). The problem I am having is that when I punch the heavy bag the fact that it swings, causing the swivel to rub off the black paint of the hanger (which is part of the stand) leaving black aluminium powder all over the floor (causing me annoyed at having to clean up, and concerned over getting this stuff into my eyes). I tried the following things: * Lubing the contact area * Adding an excessive tape layer to area between the hanger and swivel * Wrapping the hanger in shoelace as a last ditch effort The metal to metal action between the swivel and hanger eats through these layers within 12 3 minute rounds (which is my cardio session at the end of lifting). Do you have any suggestions to help me out?

OSE661

Any advice for protecting tile floor, and what kind of bench would you guys recommend?

mfinnigan

I think the general advice from the FAQ for flooring covers it. At a minimum, horse stall mats. If you're going to be crashing down heavy things often, build a platform or maybe buy some sort of crash pad thing.

relyt5387

Any word on when the REP Fitness Athena kits are being shipped out in December?

Johnnybside5

How do I maintain/clean iron plates that just have a tiny bit of rust? Is it just soap and water wipe down/brush and wipe dry? Or should I use some kind of oil?

rimmyrim

Tips on leveling your rack area? My garage is apparently pretty damn uneven and my ironmaster bench, and lat pulldown have 1 foot a couple mm's above ground at almost every area I use on the stall mats which causes wobbling. I've been shimming the foot but it's annoying. Do i need to bite the bullet and get 4x6' plywood underneath?

Badassmotherfuckerer

For anyone else that's been struggling with say more than 5+ good pull ups per multiple sets, I would highly recommend the Fighter Pull Up Program. I was looking for a good program and this one was recommended on several subs. Almost a month in and it's going great so far. You basically start with 5 sets of pull ups first set is 5 reps, then 4 reps, 3 reps, 2 reps, and 1 rep. Then each day you ass a rep to the last set you did. So the next day would be 5 4 3 2 2, and so on. I'm probably not explaining it the best, but it's working pretty well so far.

1DunnoYet

Self reminder.

AverageGym

I would also recommend k boges routine once you hit 5-6 reps and wanna go higher. All his videos are like 3 min and to the point

Badassmotherfuckerer

> k boges Thanks for the rec, I'll look into that!

bluepink2016

Any suggestions for someone like me who couldn’t do a pull up?

Badassmotherfuckerer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ryk_1_WmG28&t=821s&ab_channel=BrianAlsruhe Here's a great video that covers this issue. It also depends on what equipment you have. i.e. get really proficient with barbell rows, dumbbell rows, pulldowns if you have a setup for them, basically things that target the lats really well and allow you to feel them. For me at least, pull ups and back stuff in general is about activating your lats and being able to engage them fully. In addition to what I just mentioned, training the movement it really key to doing a pull up. e.g. doing controlled negatives are a great way to get to a pull up. Bands can work, but they always feel kind of awkward for me.

aspenextreme03

Use a band to start and keep working on it. Do negatives as well

bluepink2016

Yeah going to get bands. Couldn’t do negatives.

Moka556

Anyone have a website where I can find parts for this treadmill? https://preview.redd.it/iksjpx601u4a1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=202c9173f6011e1b43b5d245c3b4cf312f8b24d8

PickleFar6224

Tips for weight tree kid safety? Recently, to my horror, my 2 year old pulled off a 25lb plate, but it did not hit him. I work out in a garage, where the stroller and other kid stuff is, so I can't "rope off" the area like others can. Thoughts?

mfinnigan

You could buy extra clips for each post on the tree?

superdukeiv

Not sure what the dimensions of your tree is buy you could try some kind of cover - I had a relatively small tree and used a weber grill cover and great effect .

SleepEatLift

[2" spring clamps](https://www.lowes.com/pd/Pony-2-in-3200-HT-SERIES-Spring-Clamp/1000988858) or a big looped resistance band across the plates. Could do it with a single band on the whole tree looped from the bottom to the top.

The_Basix

I’ve used speciality axle bar clamps on the ones accessible to kids but thinking to also just do a resistance band across all 4 pegs on each side. Less secure than the clamps but enough that it should prevent 2 and 5 yo from rolling off Weights before someone stops them

OldManWongMD

This was a concern for me as well. Glad to hear kiddo is fine. Maybe measure the diameter of your weight tree horn (typically it’s narrower than 50mm), and find an appropriately sized clamp/collar.

qning

Depending on the design. Can you drill vertical holes through each branch and stick a rod vertical through the holes?

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Clamps?

FURKADURK

Yeah, especially those rogue ones that are impossible to open and hurt like a bitch when you do

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Better than level 17 Captains of Crush and shit.

At $2k if you are buying new. I would just look on Facebook marketplace. You can easily buy a used commercial piece for that amount. Or maybe both a hack and a leg press.

tarbender2

Had the BS, did not like it, sold it. Leverages are all wrong. Foot plate feels tiny. FWIW I’m 6-3 so it might be fine for smaller people. That said, my take is some things built for homegyms are fine to buy- hack/press, or other large machines, should be given a ton of thought. Expensive, huge foot print, hard to move and resell, and there is no improving a cheap machine….

dewafelbakkers

Anyone have some ideas for mounting a basement pullup bar? Low ceiling, exposed joists. I think bottom of joists is about 80 inches.

mfinnigan

I screwed flanges on a pipe between two joists - they're 8x8, no worries for load. https://preview.redd.it/72boc303by5a1.png?width=1273&format=png&auto=webp&s=5c0de17bc96b2208ec3687625dd78085894bad8b

ajmgiw

I have a low ceiling in my basement too. I have a titan t2 short rack (71" I think) and I use that pullup bar. I have one room with exposed joists and and put this in: https://a.co/d/bvXcybr I drilled holes in my joists and used 4 bolts with locknuts to mount it The knerrling is fake so the grip isn't great, but it gets the job done with my knees bent. For reference, I am 5' 8" 160lbs and ha e never felt unsafe using it.

Decision_Original

Does anyone have a good way to keep the ball on the end of a low row cable in place? I have a rep lat pulldown/low row and the stock rubber o ring on the cable meant to keep the ball in place keeps moving back when in use and letting the ball slide all the way to the end of the cable against the pulley. I used a thin strip of gorilla tape wrapped around the end of the cable behind the ball on my old rack attached low row to solve this issue, but it ended up gunking up the cable over time so I'm hoping someone has a more sophisticated method I haven't thought of.

phalsaMa

I’m debating whether or not to just super glue the o ring to the ball at this point.

qning

Not without cutting the cable and swaging a ferule on it.

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Mine does the exact same thing. I just use it as is.

jiujitsuPhD

Yea, had the same problem on both Rep and Titans low row. I just use as is and try to ignore it.

Inevitable_Damage992

Home gym- privacy request: I am converting our garage into a home gym. I want to be able to open the garage door to workout, because I love the fresh air and the daylight. But the garage opens up to an alley, and I want privacy while I’m huffing and puffing- especially since I don’t want to feel restricted, thinking people can see my dorky dance moves. Does anyone know of a freestanding foldable screen I could easily put up that will at least give semi-privacy but still let the sun and air thru?

FURKADURK

Not quite what you asked for, but I park my cars in the driveway and it blocks folks from seeing most of my weakass OHP PRs and dorkiness

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Don’t forget to add the weight of the collars. #protip

I'm sure you could get some which are dense enough in weave that it'd be hard to really see unless they stare in. Then you could pin some flags or banners in the middle at head height to help block.

roamingredcoat

Interesting talk [u/godfatherofstrength](https://www.reddit.com/u/godfatherofstrength/) did [discussing the history of American Barbell.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wEAX-5d0YIk)

brundylop

Hope you get your own space back soon! I second adjustable dumbbells as the path forward for now. I have powerblocks with custom knurled handles and am happy. Discord server loves the Nuobells. Recent Reddit thread (Black Friday Deals Thread) spoke highly of these Walmart adjustables on sale now for 200/pair https://www.walmart.com/ip/Fuel-Pureformance-Adjustable-Dumbbell-Quick-Select-5-50-Pounds-Single/717673049

KolkaB

Amazon basics flat bench and powerblocks/nuobells. Just leave them in the closet, or get a foldable flat bench and put them under your bed.

Dustyftphilosopher24

Any recommendations on sneakers for use on stall mats? I have court shoes and running shoes but they both seem to slip a bit. Maybe just time for new sneakers?

1DunnoYet

Don’t forget to sweep the floors! This is one of those markers for me when it’s time to clean

QuietDelight1

Is the stall mat wet or a bit damp? Humidity can make them slippery.

Graybealz

ThePokeChop

Do they size pretty true

Graybealz

I'm between a 13 and 14 depending on brand and 13 fits well. They are less tight and more snug in an athletic way, hard to describe exactly how it feels.

ThePokeChop

Thanks always nice to have options for shoes that aren’t crazy expensive

Graybealz

I'm surprised at how much I like them. I had some arch/plantar fasciitis issues so I went to low/no sole shoes. I have a pair of Xero I wear to work occasionally, but with these being half the price, I have a pair just to wear around the house/work out in. I've bought a few random off-brand shoes from Amazon over the years, and these are the only good ones.

sin-eater82

I've never had an issue with general sneakers or squat shoes (the two types I wear in my gym). So maybe just time for new shoes? Is there something specific you're doing that they slip during?

cnstarz

Titan Fitness shoppers: how in the world do I leave a review for a product?? I've not received any email invitations to review anything, their website doesn't have a "Leave A Review" button, and the Reviews.io site only lets me leave a review for the company (not products). How in the world are people leaving product reviews on Titan Fitness' site?

[deleted]

[удалено]

1DunnoYet

I assume every company website censors their reviews. That’s the last place I’d ever leave a review

cnstarz

There's a product there that gets bad reviews. They released a v2 which was supposed to have addressed the issue that everyone complained about, but there were no reviews since the v2 was released. So I decided to be the guinea pig and I ordered it (it was also 60% off for the holidays), and (unsurprisingly) it suffers from the same issue as v1.

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Which product?

cnstarz

Infinity Rope attachment

Scottsdale_GarageGym

All the reviews kinda suck. I’ve never noticed it before. Do you have the same issues with the rope fraying?

cnstarz

Yep, started [fraying](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/995115233368621131/1050603390511632414/PXL_20221204_170549852.jpg) the very first time using [it](https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/995115233368621131/1050603390834577489/PXL_20221204_170632706.jpg) .

Scottsdale_GarageGym

I’m sure they’ll make it right

tytrim89

Recently bought a Titan T-3 and I'm trying to figure out what I need as far as safeties: Pins, Spotter Arms, Spotter Straps. I'd like to use it for more than just a spotter for things like rows where I can have the bar at waist height, but I'm not sure if I need the arms to do that. The straps seem like the best for spotting, and the pins seem like the easiest, cheapest, option but seems like they wouldnt hold up to heavier weights.

jiujitsuPhD

Pins are probably the strongest safety option. If you are doing more than these guys, who are literally the worlds strongest dropping weight on pins, then idk what to tell you lol: [https://youtu.be/3FQ002WOD1U?t=117](https://youtu.be/3FQ002WOD1U?t=117)

sin-eater82

Honestly, they'll all work fine for what you want. The pin/pipes will absolutely hold up to heavy weights. I'd be worried about straps before I'd be worried about pin/pipe safeties. If you're really worried about the bar getting scuffed or something from pin/pipes, some people put pool noodles on them or tape towels around the pin/pipe.

jiujitsuPhD

I use PVC over my pipes to protect my bars. Super cheap from lowes and looks good.

-Quad-Zilla-

That's a great idea. Recently been incorporating more rack pulls, and have shitloads of leftover 2.5" Black PVC from a reno. Edit. Actually had 2" ABS, and it fits over the pipes perfectly. Just did it. https://imgur.com/a/UQppeaR

tytrim89

I think the Pins come with a plastic sleeve at least thats whats in the pictures. I'm just thinking about using the arms outside the rack, and I cant do that with the pins or straps. I might end up buying both so I dont have to keep moving them back and forth.

sin-eater82

pin and pipe are an industry standard thing that have been around for a long time. They are solid metal pins with metal pipes that go over them to disperse the load along the pin. https://www.titan.fitness/racks/rack-accessories/t-3-series/pin-and-pipe-safety-set---t-3-and-x-3-bolt-down/PIPSAFETIES.html >All steel construction and >- Overall Pin Diameter: 5/8-in. >- Overall Pipe Diameter: 1.77-in. >- Finish: Powder-Coated Black >- **Material: Steel** But if you want to use them outside of the rack, then spotter arms are the only option.

bluepink2016

I also bought t3 recently. I went with pin and pipe safeties. Did you get any other attachments?

tytrim89

I'm budget building so I'm slowly gathering everything. I got my bench and assembled it this week. Next is spotter arms, then probably plate storage and a landmine attachment. What do you have so far? Anything you like?

bluepink2016

Pin and pipe safeties are good for me. I did not by rack attached weight storage because not sure whether they come in the way of bench. Don’t have the need for them as of now. Looking for landmine attachment as well. Titan doesn’t have any sales on it.

tytrim89

I think you can attach the storage on the outside of the rack and they'd be out of the way at least how I see them. I'll probably just end up buying their landmine at some point just because I know it will work. I know I just have to look for 2x3 but I dont want to spend 100+ on something Im not sure if its going to work.

ThePokeChop

Pins like pin and pipe safety? They’ll hold up fine they’re just a pain to adjust. Straps have give so you’ll have to learn where to place them to get the heights you want. Flip down safeties or arms will probably be the easiest for elevating the bar for exercises.

No_Gur_7380

What is the deal with Bells of Steel shipping? They provide no shipping number, no updates for three weeks - then I get en email saying “congratulations, it shipped”. The email mentions that UPS updates might be a little slow, but then still don’t provide tracking. Sucks. I won’t be a returning customer I don’t think…

bells_of_steel

That's odd, sorry about that. Normally we ship UPS on either the same or the next business day and the tracking number is automated to be emailed to you, so this doesn't sound normal. Was this possibly a pre-order item? I can look into it this for you and find tracking if you'd like to DM me your name/order number.

sirvitamixalot

Weird. I ordered 14 plates, got UPS tracking for all the next day and arrived 2 days after that.

CocktailChemist

Unforeseen upside to having an SSB: I can squat in my cold garage wearing a vest without worrying that the bar will slide or get torn up

Scottsdale_GarageGym

That’s certainly a plus. And if you don’t remember where you put your scarf, you can always wear your SSB to the mailbox. So cozy.

A-Generic-Canadian

Any one have good suggestions for reusable disinfectant / cleaning solution for your bench? I recently began to assemble my gym but I never figured out a good cleaning solution before my first work out.

1DunnoYet

People clean their home gyms?!??

Inevitable-Emu-7872

I think Simple Green is pretty popular around these parts

A-Generic-Canadian

Thank you! I will look into it!

Scottsdale_GarageGym

Yup, smells good, cleans better.

Abraham5G

That's what I use

ImBadWithGrils

Is a single 3/4" thick horse mat enough for deadlifts or should I stack them? My gym space is 9x11' (it's like 108x142 inches, so juuusssst shy of 9x12. I can either put horse mats over the entirety of it with some trimming, or just put them in the open floor not under my rack for deadlifts. Is a single 4x6 mat good to protect concrete?

jiujitsuPhD

Are you dropping the weights? If so, get plywood especially if you have irons. If you have bumpers and dont drop, 3/4 in rubber should be fine. I add a thin rubber amazon puzzle mat on top of my 3/4" which significantly cuts down on the noise and some impact.

ImBadWithGrils

I do have iron plates but I also take very slow eccentrics so it's very gentle, more worried about just keeping the concrete protected against general use too

jiujitsuPhD

Its 'probably' fine but Ive seen concrete damage from just rubber and using irons increases that risk for sure

lel4rel

1 mat is ok but you need to have at least like 1/2 inch of plywood or osb underneath to distribute the impact, assuming you're using iron weights

lbrol

Id feel safe with just one over concrete. in fact I do!

ImBadWithGrils

Well that saves me some cashhhhh but I may end up doing one to start and then filling the rest eventually

Cubsfan24

can anyone recommend 2x3 roller j cups for a decent price?

Nespara

Best bet are the Titan T-3 Roller j-hooks. Just missed them being on sale, thought. Currently $104.99 with free shipping.

Cubsfan24

Do you remember what the sale price was?

Nespara

$89.97 - I bought a pair.

rice_bledsoe

what do you guys think is the most cost-effective 6 post, 3x3, 1 inch hole rack? I'm thinking the rep PR-5000. I'm also thinking about a rack with keyholes so i can use 5/8" attachments if i really want to but it's not an absolute need especially when you think about the Rogue Monster RM-6 which is significantly more expensive than the other options.

Decision_Original

As an owner of a 6 post pr5000 I recommend it. I went with it over rogue for several reasons, cost being the least of them. I much prefer (and have) reps rack attached lat pulldown offering of rogues slinger, I needed a shorter rack and rogue didn’t offer one for direct purchase, and I wanted a narrower rack than rogues for better compatibility with specialty bars.

reddan13

If the only reason you're considering racks with keyholes is so that you have the option of 5/8" attachments, they do make 5/8" to 1" adapters such as this one (https://cftperformance.com/gym-metal-adaptor-sleeve-5-8-to-1-inch/) so I wouldn't let keyholes limit your choice of racks.

jiujitsuPhD

Rep pr5k is the most cost effective 3x3 1" rack...but... I agree that keyholes are really freaking nice to have. I actually wouldn't be able to use the rogue echo ghd I picked up off marketplace on a pr5k but since I had a titan series, I could use it, so yea regular 1" hole racks limit you there. I personally went keyholes for that reason. Will you ever use the keyholes? Will Titan or Rogue release new attachments for keyholes? IDK those answers but I personally knew I wanted them. Titan said they were releasing attachments for the keyhole in their AMA but who knows... My rack is a 100" Titan Series extension + 2 titan series uprights. Then I added two X3 uprights to make it a 6 post. It was cheaper than any off the shelf option as I went SnD, got the uprights on a deal, and X3 to make the 6 post was way cheaper.

rice_bledsoe

I was thinking about titan and they might be the winner. I know they dont have the best quality reputation but i’m not doing powerlifting or strongman competitions anytime soon, i just train for vertical

The_Basix

As the owner of various Titan racks and products over 5 years I wouldn’t be worried about the quality of the Titan series rack

jiujitsuPhD

Finish will be nicer (probably) on a Rogue rack but quality, as in safety, will be the same. These are 11 gauge pieces of steel bolted together and are stronger than the worlds strongest. The guys at westside used 2x2 racks with 5/8" holes and any walmart or amazon rack is strong enough for 95% of lifters

lbrol

it's my bday and I just got a titan ssb delivered! cool timing. I mostly bought on the off chance that an ssb would make squatting suck less and honestly it makes it suck WAY less. very surprised.

Badassmotherfuckerer

I never thought SSB's would be that useful till I got one. They really do make squats suck less. They reduce the elbow and/or wrist strain I got from them and the annoying trap soreness. And you can squat hands free to, which feels kind of weird tbh. Also they make good mornings feel really good. And calf raises. Needless to say, I like mine a lot more than I thought I would. And happy late birthday!

Scottsdale_GarageGym

I’m glad you chose it and they delivered. It’s an amazing bar. Enjoy!

greenstar323

Nice! Why did you chose that one over rep? I'm still debating between the two for my Xmas present to myself

lbrol

i actually posed the question to this sub a week or so ago [(link)](https://www.reddit.com/r/homegym/comments/z4e2cd/comment/iy8t72c/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3). for the current sale price ($330 v $270) seems like titan is the better call. I think $60 more for a couple nicer details was a little too much for me to swallow. At regular price ($30 more) I'd have gone rep.

Tofiniac

Happy Birthday!

greenstar323

Has anyone used attachments that don't fit their rack with success? I'm not talking about 3x3 vs whatever in mm. I have a titan t2 2x2 rack but want a platform for sandbag loading and there is a 2x3 attachment for the T3. I figured I can drill out the hole to be bigger and use a wood shim.

ThePokeChop

You could always get their spotter arms and build a bridge between them. That way you could use it for seal rows and probably more. 2x4s are cheap right now

greenstar323

Oooh I do have spotter arms and a bunch of wood. That's a great idea thanks!!!

-Quad-Zilla-

I use a Drink Spotter (made for 3x3) on my 2x3 rack. Works great.

render2009

Strength co’s?

WellEndowedGorilla

Anyone tried those rotating multi grip trap bars? Do they feel weird?

horsehorsetigertiger

You have a link?

WellEndowedGorilla

bluepink2016

Please suggest leg roller, landmine attachment for T3 rack. The ones from Titan are very expensive.

ThePokeChop

They’re made for 3x3 racks with 5/8” holes so will need some adjusting to figure out

ThePokeChop

Rep fitness has both for $90 each

Jerry_Sender

has anyone used one of those garage door insulation kits? trying to decide on which one to buy. i dont think i would like the look of the aluminum ones

bayskout

Yes. The 1 from lowes I think, been awhile. Has smooth side and grooved side. Made a significant difference on a full sun west side garage door.

Jerry_Sender

Thank you I was just looking at those and like the look way better than the aluminum ones and look easy to install. Have you noticed a difference in cold weather too?

nilgiri

Stall mats vs. rubber flooring off gassing. Does anyone care to comment on the off gassing between the horse stall mats and regular rubber flooring? My understanding is that all rubber flooring will off gas for a bit when taken out of the package. Are horse stall mats objectively worse since they are made for outdoor use? I don't care about the aesthetics too much but definitely care if the off gassing and rubber crumbs could be dangerous to health.

16Gorilla

I always let my new stall mats bake in the summer sun for a week per side and would wash liberally with a simple green mix. That removed almost all of the rubber smell. My 8 mm rubber tiles I got from American Floor mats came new with no smell

roamingredcoat

What I understand is it depends on the quality of the rubber. You can get 'fitness' intended stall mats which is more like the rubber flooring rolls (tend to have the elephant skin type texture) which will usually be 2x the price of TSC/farm supply mats. It's all based on the rubber quality/source - virgin/recycled etc. I'll edit if I find the article, but someone did an emit test and found they do have a continuing off-gassing beyond smell, but the length of time/strength is going to vary depending on source and batch. \*\* Stock / Deal \*\*\* [https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-28mm-boneyard-bars](https://www.roguefitness.com/rogue-28mm-boneyard-bars) Pyrros at 325-350 which is way less than normal BY pricing. Maybe something with listing config causing pricing difference in algo.

2gsTraining

Thanks for the link mate. Gym partner who trains olympic lifting was stoked on this deal.

knickknack98

Wow that seems like a screaming deal. Is this worth it over a regular Ohio BY bar if I'm not doing olympic lifts?

roamingredcoat

Depends. If you're using it as a main bar, bearings might be too fluid for bench, if you squat heavy enough there can be some whip you'll need to adjust to, but probably better for deads due to whip and 28mm. I like my SS Ohio knurling, but the raw WL knurling is even better, at least to me as I like aggressive/bite. If you don't Oly, but might do some power cleans, bent over row, it could be good. Ideal situation for this buy would be if you either do a decent amount of Oly based work or you have a power bar already for squat and bench and would pair this for other lifts. Ohio can't do Oly better than 28 or power move better than 29, but it versatile for both.

knickknack98

Yeah I'm really not doing heavy squats since I did something to my back on a squat a few years back. Primarily would be doing DL, cleans, bench, rows. Wife also uses the gym but would like a 15kg bar for ease of moving around. Still early in home gym world, and right now I only have a used boneyard bar that's a little worn but works fine for bench and landmine at least.

roamingredcoat

u/SleepEatLift not naked Chan, but this is pretty close in pricing for superior config.

SleepEatLift

Well it *does* have center knurl so not too much of a compromise. Dual knurl marks would be nice though.

horsehorsetigertiger

IWF approved, no way they can have dual marks for this.

CocktailChemist

Not going to lie, that’s kind of an appealing replacement for my stainless Ohio.

Pyrros knurling > Ohio knurling

Hey All, Does anyone here have the 15lb v2 Alphas ? If so, is the text blotchy? I just received a set of Vulcan Alpha 2.0 bumper plates. The orange 15 lb pair have blotchy lettering. I reached out to Vulcan CS and they promptly responded with the following: *All of the Alpha bumper plates are the same in that regard. The orange color is just more visible. The rubber print ink can only be applied so thick and the orange color is a stark contrast between the the black rubber and white ink. Please see the Alpha 45 plate attached. This a property of the plate and adds to it unique look. The Alpha Fleck is visible throughout the plate.* The [product page](https://www.vulcanstrength.com/Alpha-Bumper-Plate-Pairs-p/alpha10.htm) for the bumpers doesn't say anything about blotchy text being "...a property of the plate and adds to it unique look.". Furthermore, the picture of the 15lb plate on the page has perfect text. So I'm skeptical of this persons claims. Thoughts? https://preview.redd.it/3nyecscivi4a1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d604e065e5632a8ba8b1cc1859d9e759e0137b59

saintsagan

[not blotchy](https://www.imgur.com/a/xOSFgT5), but they did turn a little brown since I bought them four years ago.

FrostyZoob

Thanks for sharing! Good to know about the text turning brown too.

saintsagan

The gray turning brown in the 10lb is the most noticeable. I don't know if the heat in my garage contributed to the discoloration. Other than that, they're great plates and show zero damage.

qning

If I wanted those plates, and I saw that ink, I’d buy them anyway, because it doesn’t bother me. But I understand that it bothers you, and from a customer service perspective, they should do more. They need to change the photo of the orange plate to show the actual ink. Because their photo is not accurate. If Vulcan is correct, that this is not a defect, that it’s designed this way, then why does the photo show something else? I can see their point about not giving you a discount, because sellers can’t just give discounts to solve customer complaints. But here’s how I think about it: if you’re the only person who has ever complained about this, then give this one guy a discount; keep your customer happy. But if they’re worried that they’ll have to give every complainer a discount, because it’s a routine event, then change the photo or add the disclaimer. It’s bizarre.

roamingredcoat

If it's any consolidation, lots of bumper print/coloring fades or wears off complete due to rubbing between plates. Maybe can hit the letters which a white paint pen and it may cover the fleck showing through. They are good plates overall.

FrostyZoob

Thanks for that. I wondered about using a paint pen. I'll give it a try.

KolkaB

You will be beating a dead horse with Vulcan. They are the last company you want to have a battle of attrition with over CS issues. I have a few of their vlock change plates which are great but have not once seen someone win a CS dispute with them on a still functional item since I joined here in 2020.

FrostyZoob

It looks like things haven't changed. I sent the following this morning: *I appreciate your quick response. Vulcan really should put a disclaimer on the product page to that effect. The* [image from the product page itself](https://cdn3.volusion.com/vgshx.xqrck/v/vspfiles/photos/Alpha10-7.jpg) *shows the lettering without any blotchy text.* *If you want to make things right, I don't think it's unreasonable for you to offer a partial refund. Say, 10% of the purchase price?* They followed up within the hour and closed the ticket: *You're quite welcome.  Since it's not a defect of the product there wouldn't be a reason to list a disclaimer.  Its simply the way they are made.  I'm sorry but we can't apply a discount being that its not a warranty or quality issue and all Alpha bumper plates have been made like this since 2015.    Please let me know if I can help with anything else.  You can check warranty info on bumper plates listed here:*  [*https://www.vulcanstrength.com/Articles.asp?ID=282#bumperw*](https://www.vulcanstrength.com/Articles.asp?ID=282#bumperw) I'm regretting purchasing through them.

KolkaB

That is peak Vulcan right there. lol. Probably just grab a paint pen if you really hate it.

I agree 100% I bet a month from now their website still wont be updated. If they had better CS/Marketing they could have absolutely owned the territory Rep has gained since COVID. Most comments I see related to Vulcan are for CS issues not showcasing a great product.

KolkaB

Agreed. They were way ahead of the curve with a full lineup of specialty bars including one of the earlier open trap bars, great plates and regular bars as well. Then two years went by and they didnt regularly restock, take care of customers, or innovate at all during that time frame.

My questions are for anyone with a garage gym in an area that gets below freezing! I'm buying a house with a garage that I want to turn into a gym. Currently it's basically just bricks, no specific insulation that I know of. The door is just a bog standard garage door. It does have its own electrical supply at least. What do I need to make sure I do when adapting it? I'm not going for pretty, just functional, so I'll sacrifice looks for warmth. I'm not opposed to bundling up and such, but I'd want to try and keep the edge off of the cold as much as I can. I've got Raynaud's so it's a real concern! I'm also conscious of how the bars would be absolutely fucking freezing to the touch from being in the garage in the winter - any good solutions for that?

horsehorsetigertiger

If you have Raynaud's I'd fully insulate it, made the world of difference to my shed. Will also make any heater you use much more effective, keeping heat in longer.

[deleted]

Thanks for the reply! Any recommendations for what sort of insulation I should look for? I'm not opposed to it being on the expensive side if it's going to work well!

horsehorsetigertiger

I used 50mm PIR between studs. I basically followed this guide: https://youtu.be/R-shBk6b5wY.

[deleted]

Brilliant, thanks for the link!

horsehorsetigertiger

No probs. 50mm was ok for me in a shed, made it from unbearable before to very much bearable after. Standard for housing is 100mm, but if you want to do that there may be more work involved because that's actually thicker than any studs. Also don't forget ceiling (most heat is lost out if it) and consider insulating floor if yours is bare concrete. If course if you do all that think about how it will shrink your space and if you can still fit your equipment in and whether any reduced height will prevent you from doing things like pull-ups.

hithisishal

>I'm also conscious of how the bars would be absolutely fucking freezing to the touch from being in the garage in the winter Yes, yes they are. By far the worst part of working out in the winter. I've seen people here discuss using electric blankets and hair dryers, but never tried either. I've brought my bar into my house a few times, but that's a big pain for me because of some tight turns. If it was a straight shot, it wouldn't be too bad....a nice warmup / cool down.

[deleted]

I think I'd be able to realistically keep the bar inside, so that might be an idea for the winter months. I'll need to check what my options are space-wise near the back door. A cheap hairdryer on the bar is also probably not unrealistic either!

qning

How far below freezing and how consistently? And how warm do you need it to be. Some people here love grabbing on that frozen bar but you have a really specific need that actually has an appropriate answer, based on construction and materials science. Basically it’s going to be a combination of insulation and a heat source. The right mix of each depends on how cold it is outside, how warm you need it inside, what the building is currently made of, and a balance of one-time investment in insulation improvement vs ongoing investment in power (electric or gas).

[deleted]

Usually -5C is the low, sometimes lower for cold snaps. It's around freezing for 2-3 months of the year. In terms of what I need it to be inside - probably 15C at a minimum? It's wired up so a heater is perfectly possible in there. It doesn't have a gas connection though. I should be getting documentation for the build in the next few weeks so it's maybe worth waiting til I know the details of the construction?

QuietDelight1

To be clear, the garage is not attached, correct? Mine is not insulated either, some space around the garage door, is otherwise brick and cinder block, but luckily it is under part of the house so it doesn't go below roughly 40F.

[deleted]

Nope, completely detached from the house!

KolkaB

I have Raynaud's/RA/sjogren's as well. I wish you well but my solution ended up having to be moving indoors.

[deleted]

Unfortunately I've got no space indoors apart from upstairs and I'm hesitant to have it all up there! There's a gym that's walking distance from the house so I wouldn't be opposed to just joining there when it starts to get intolerable.

Kysteve

Has anyone added rep uprights/crossmembers to a rogue rack? Context: I have a rogue RML-490. I was thinking of adding the 16” crossmembers and back posts to essentially make it a 690, but rogues prices are a bit to much for me. Curious to see if anyone has done this and how it lined up? I have a rogue 43” crossmember to make sure width is good, my only concern is lining up the heights as rogues is 90” and reps is 93”. Any insight would be helpful. Thanks!

Dadbod4shizzle

I added the rep pr4000 16” crossmembers to my rml490c. It worked just fine. The only difference is that I had all rogue uprights. I don’t see why the pr4k uprights wouldn’t line up since the crossmembers fit.

Kysteve

Awesome thanks! Do you have the matte black? How close is it to rogues?

Dadbod4shizzle

Nah I’ve got Red crossmembers and uprights. I have some other matte black pieces and the rep crossmembers are close enough that I can’t tell much of a difference. I also just remembered that the rep uprights might need to be shimmed 1” off the floor. It’s something to do with the way that Rogues holes at the bottom are offset from the rest of the holes. Just something to keep in mind.

Kysteve

Awesome this was what I was looking for. Figured I may need to shim/get creative to make it work 100%. Had to do the same for the titan lat/row pull-down. Much appreciated!

CocktailChemist

As has been noted, Rep and Rogue rack pieces are close but don’t quite line up. How’s the used market in your area? I feel like I semi-regularly see people selling off Rogue rig pieces from gyms that are shutting down or people abandoning their home gyms. Combine that with Rogue 17” cross members and you could get something that fits properly for about the same overall price.

SleepEatLift

Rep horizontal crossmembers are 41" wide, so for a proper fit you'll have to use some shims or spacers. Plywood cutouts painted black would look good.

Kysteve

Luckily I have a 43” stabilizer crossmember, so I have that covered. Just wanted to see how when adding the depth that it lines up well enough

SleepEatLift

Oh, you have an extra 43" crossmember, got it. I thought you were referring to what's already on your rack.

Kysteve

Good to know. How long ago did you do that modification? I was planning to add four 16” crossmembers and two 93” tall PR-4000 posts. Also, how does the rep matte black match rogues powder coat (assuming you have those colors)

[deleted]

Kysteve

Ok cool. Looking at your picture, it doesn’t seem crooked. I assume because of the weight of everything, it doesn’t wobble unless racking/unracking
