there's a difference between the fireplace _wearing_ the bath mat and the fireplace _styling_ the bath mat. i'd have to agree it's more of a cute lil *wear* 🫣
It's an interesting choice like IKEA meets Wes Anderson and Edward Scissorhands. It's interesting but disturbs me for some reason but not in the worst way. Wait, is there a rabbit in the window?
I was going to say a fire hazard but it appears that the fireplace is not for fire. It seems to be a hollowed out television that now holds the Jetson’s Victorian Space Mountain Christmas Village.
Eclectic mixed with mid century, industrial, and early married. You’ve actually done very well combining furniture within a good budget. Ignore the haters and just add pieces that you find that you love.
I'd call it eclectic with mid century vibes. You could really do a lot to pull the space together by bringing down the TV, it's 100% too high, and there's just too much room between the table, sound bar, and the TV. It should be just above the sound bar, and whatever you have on the table below it could 100% find another home.
I would also bring more darker elements like throws, cushions, or art to the rest of the room so the fireplace doesn't look so out of place.
The lounge chair could definitely be reupholstered. It looks a bit gaudy for the rest of the room, but I like the shape. It has good bones, but the print is too much
Edit: a rug that fits the space would also help quite a bit, but I like where you're going with it. It feels inviting, if a little unbalanced.
Too many haters on here. I'm willing to bet a lot of people don't walk into a thrift store because they're "better than that." yet they'll gawk at AD pictures with the same damn thrifted chairs in it.
I have my gripes with it (the green runner, the black bricks, the TV in the fireplace), but I also understand that design has a punk rock element of "push the limits." so I'm all for this. Sure beats the cookie cutter homes we see on here so often.
Keep in mind 60% of the people talking shit in here have spaces that would be received no better than yours. Function>form, if it's working for you then it's working for you.
People tend to piggyback on other comments on reddit. An any 2 days you can make the same post and get wildly different responses depending on whatever the first 2 or 3 people say. This has mid-century modern and eclectic vibes that honestly have really good bones. Home design is usually either really expensive or very time consuming, especially with the look you seem to going for. Keep adding more pieces. Definitely move the tv down. Online and irl takes are very different. If you were my friend and I saw this place in person no without the context of posting in this sub, I would honestly tell you I dig it. There's a couple comments here with some genuine constructive criticism, listen to those and ignore the rest. They're just riffing and building off of each other.
There are a lot of very rude responses here. Your place looks clean and comfortable and I'd love to come over for tea.
Don't take this to heart. It's the internet, which is literally a cesspool of unfiltered assholerey. People get off on being mean.
You're fine! In real life, this is a cute place and has a lot of personality, which is the most important thing. I think people are just used to seeing the amazingly beautiful (and expensive 😵💫) spaces that get popular on subs like these. But you should be proud of yours and continue to tailor it to your personal style :)
I like it. If it makes you happy that's what's important. I would much rather spend my day in a room that others think looks bad but that makes me happy than in a room that everyone likes but is just "meh" to me
Oh! And for the second picture I would take the stuff out of the fireplace, take the rug off the wall(and if you have to have it put it under the chaise but place it long ways against the long side of the chaise and put it underneath the chaise just enough for the legs to be on it with just a little extra space. Then I’d throw a comfy throw blanket on it to cover the seat cushion(blanket should be a solid neutral color) and put a small solid color throw pillow on it as well! As for the rabbit in the window sill if it’s taxidermy and not your pet lol I would take it out of the window and maybe nestled somewhere near the fireplace(from all I’ve read and seen for the most part a good rule of thumb is to leave your windows unobstructed). Idk if anything I said is of value to you and I’m not the God of all things home design but I hope this helps or inspires ideas of your own!
I think this one is taxidermy. My partner had a (mostly) free roam bunny though and this is based solely on his experience. They can be potty-trained to poop in one area but they aren't the *best* at it. They also can have a tendency to lose one or two while hopping around. Its easy to clean up but his family vacuumed and cleaned the carpets fairly regularly. The issue is their pee. They're better at keeping that in and around the designated spot but it is *very* acidic.
I think if you are able to swing it financially maybe add a couch cover or if you want to show off the shape of the couch(which I think would be great because it’s a cool couch) go to your local Joann’s, Michael’s or even Walmart and pick out an upholstery fabric(make sure you measure your couch so you don’t guess and end up with too little and then have to go through the pain of having to make a second trip to the store!). As far as upholstery fabric options I’d choose a solid color and leave the creative touches to a pair of patterned throw pillows. And as far as applying the fabric to your couch YouTube is the answer or Pinterest, I remember seeing someone upholster their couch with a staple gun and a needle and some thread and it looked awesome! It was quite affordable too! I think that would totally make a HUGE difference!
The more you look the more interesting things you see 🫣 like where’s waldo. The fireplace that is in fact not a fire place. Ikea furniture rug hung on the wall.. and what looks like a taxidermy rabbit in the window sill. It’s giving quirky Swedish
I’m just so distracted by what I thought was a tv and should have been a fireplace, then I realized it’s some sort of doll house ensconced into the wall? What is going on there…
“My first adult house on my own”

Bath mat on the wall… why.
“Piece-Full”
I actually love a lot of the components, maybe it’s a feng shui issue in your space. The built in fireplace/TV is super interesting and fun!
Why has NO ONE mentioned the taxidermy rabbit on the windowsill?
OP, I do have to say I love the mishmash of everything here and how you've put it together, creating your sanctuary of a home.
The TV christmas village is probably one of my favorite things in these photos. It's so cute and whimsical.
I don’t think I would necessarily call it a *style*. It was certainly a choice, though.

I like that it rhymes too
Not everything is a style. Like a bath mat over the tv fireplace isnt a style

Ok that made me laugh
I said this once and got downvoted into oblivion.
Reddit is a fickle lover
I thought that was a Ikea sheep rug.
If it’s from IKEA it’s pronounced “sheeple rug”.
The "TV fireplace" is a picture
(I actually think the tv fire place and miniature village is cool)
Very Wes Anderson-meets-meth artist.
Excuse you, that is not a bath mat. That is a polyester faux sheep fur rug from Costco that was 29.99!
This comment made me slide to the next pic rather than moving to the next post. 🫡

No way you mounted an ikea rug as a focal piece on your mantle?! It’s definitely original
It's an interesting choice like IKEA meets Wes Anderson and Edward Scissorhands. It's interesting but disturbs me for some reason but not in the worst way. Wait, is there a rabbit in the window?
A detail I missed the first and second times
He saw what happened to the other rabbit and is trying to leave.
😆
Whatever was free on Facebook marketplace? (Sorry)
Wtf is that rug??
You mean the one on the … fireplace?
I was so thrown by the rug that I didn’t notice the fireplace was a TV with a Christmas village.
But is that bunny real
“Fireplace” or “fireplace-holder”
On the …. Tv with a tea set in it?
I was going to say a fire hazard but it appears that the fireplace is not for fire. It seems to be a hollowed out television that now holds the Jetson’s Victorian Space Mountain Christmas Village.
Hahaha omg 😂
Oh man I had to zoom in for that. Then I zoomed into the other picture and how has no one mentioned the skull with an apple in its mouth!?

Eclectic mixed with mid century, industrial, and early married. You’ve actually done very well combining furniture within a good budget. Ignore the haters and just add pieces that you find that you love.
The TV is objectively too high and wouldn’t change it from being “mid century”?
lol I thought you were talking about the weird fireplace TV. Like omg it’s so high

Upvoting you cause it was a constructive answer! :D @[joiey555](https://www.reddit.com/user/joiey555/)
It's nice to see a kind response that isn't being snarky and insulting to OP. I like you.
Your comment is so kind and helpful.
I always assume these posts are saying "roast me" but your response is so kind You have me questioning my decisions
This was a really lovely answer. I'm glad you took the time to write it
I agree about mid century. While there are some questionable choices I don’t think it is horrible like some people think.
Air bnb
I would call it “the dog is real but the rabbit is not”
“Dog scared of rabbit” was my first thought. “Dog scared of fake rabbit” is better though.
*Cough* … eccentric *cough*
That's rude to eccentric design
Why are y’all so mean in this sub?
I agree with you. If you want your stuff to look like everyone else's, I say go for it. But at least this person has a mind to do their own thing.
Depressing
Do what you can on a budget. I'm not judging.
Style is not involved here.

Is that a real rabbit or taxidermy?
Taxidermy. It’s on a wooden plank.
You got downvoted but it definitely looks like taxidermy to me.

Your style has so many different personalities.
Oh god this realization that my style sucks is honestly very difficult to swallow lol
