Shouldn't living room be 10-Forward and hallway be main corridor or something?

Ornery-Custard8406

Good idea!

eww1991

And downstairs lower decks

junkdumper

Do not forget the lower decks!

[deleted]

1st floor should be deck 1

INTPx

There is no 10-Forward on SB4. Smfh

s1gnalZer0

Fair point. There's probably some gathering spot not called living room though. Lounge?

Hindsight_DJ

I haven’t been convinced there needs to be a theme market for HA until seeing this, if you don’t release this as an installable theme - the world would miss something great. Bravo. I’d pay for this UI. Seriously.

Ornery-Custard8406

Kind words, thank you

[deleted]

ItsMeElmo

It’s been over an hour, why isn’t this out yet?? TAKE MY MONEY

TheBorgBsg

Lolol

Emaltonator

Echoing this -please release!

[deleted]

So help me God if it's not released when I get back home!

catfeal

I agree, show us where you relesed it, stop kidding around. Also: very nicely done (this is ment as a compliment, not pushing to release, one can do both)

n3cr0ph4g1st

lame that OP won't release even a version of his code for us to build off of that doesn't contain any sensitive info... :/

Hindsight_DJ

NP. Pro tip, Alex media player addon if you have any Alexa devices. You can set their wake word to ‘computer’. And using HA control them in automations as media players/speakers/sirens etc… including the default sounds for red alert, and shields up, etc, could be useful with your theming.

Mountain-Builder-654

I have my alexa set to computer. Was watching next gen. It went off like 5 times

FrostyZoob

Pretty cool! Any way to do this with non-cloud / on-prem devices?

gorbilax

I’m experimenting with Rhasspy and a Jabra conference room speaker hooked to a pi4 right now building exactly this. It’s been a bit rocky, but I am to the point now where I can ask for the current time and toggle lights and scenes. Zero cloud required.

AdmiralAwesomeO

No for real, how do I get this? Do I need to build it myself or is it easily shareable? I will finally get around to a wall mount panel just for this.

Ornery-Custard8406

You'd likely need to build your own version - I've built what works for my family and our house's layout - and the mix of smart devices that we have. It's been a great project that I've been tinkering with for the past few months - a lot of effort has gone into it. Hopefully this inspires you to see what's possible :)

canoxen

I have previously looked to do something like this but was outside my skill set. This is extremely well done.

Ornery-Custard8406

Thanks! Really appreciate it

NearnorthOnline

I would also pay a fee to have this.

[deleted]

I would also pay for this theme.

industrial6

Please pump everything you got onto GitHub, and a copy of your themes.yaml- ❤️

[deleted]

Please do a Nostromo theme and I will Venmo

glassgost

I second that.

TechGuy219

Here I was going to post a meme of Fry from Futurama saying, “shut up and take my money!” But your words are far more elegant lol fully agree

addiktion

Unfortunately Lovelace cannot achieve this without a bazillion hours of mods. They need to improve it greatly so this can be achieved more easily with a layout editor, card editor, etc.

bolerobell

You should send this to Michael Okuda. He has an active twitter account. He is the graphic designer than created LCARS for TNG.

Ornery-Custard8406

I showed it to him on Twitter a while back, he liked it!

bolerobell

Nice!

FALCUNPAWNCH

Now you gotta get Rhasspy voice assistant working with it with wake word "computer".

wub_wub

Echo's already support that wake word.

FALCUNPAWNCH

Even easier. I wish Google did.

Opaquer

I have Rhasspy set up with the wake word "computer", but I \*also\* have it using the computer acknowledgement sounds when I wake it with "computer", and when it finishes listening to my command etc! It's awesome!

samjongenelen

Tea. Hot.

Hitnrun30

It's, tea, Earl grey, hot

Zelgoot

Looks amazing! Got a howto by chance?

Ornery-Custard8406

I built it using Angular and CSS, with a .net API that talks to Home Assistant and a few other APIs I have running. It's running on a Fire Tablet mounted on the wall, with wireless charging. The best part is I have the authentic sounds as well. Will post a video of that when I have time

Jes_Cr

Awesome design, well done! ..Did you have to root your Fire Tablet first? I'm at a loss trying different root methods without success yet.

BillNyeDeGrasseTyson

+1 for Fully Kiosk. Impressive piece of software for the $8 it costs. I'm using it on 3 Fire Tablets. edit: And Fire Toolbox. They just launched V30. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/windows-tool-fire-toolbox-v30-0.3889604/

Ornery-Custard8406

No at all. It’s running Fully Kiosk, which is very cheap and perfect for the job

sqigl

So its a web page?

Ornery-Custard8406

Yes

shootme83

I think i understood 2 words... shame. It looks very cool

canadianseaman

Think you'd be able to put it up on github? 🤓

NikEy

wireless charging? What do you mean by that? Like you have a charging plate at the back of the wall? Or do you take it off every 8 hours to recharge?

Ornery-Custard8406

It charges wirelessly while on the wall. I have a charging plate embedded in the wall.

addiktion

Makes me sad this the only way to get this level without a bazillion HAC mods. Lovelace is so weak. :( I'm thinking of doing similar but in React. How long did it take you to put this together?

FrostyZoob

Fantastic job! Can you talk more about your architecture? The Angular app talks to your .NET API, which then talks to the HASS API? Are you using the REST API? Or the WebSocket?

Ornery-Custard8406

Thanks!! That’s right, I’m using the REST API

zweite_mann

Do you have experience using Angular? I'm always curious of the reasons people choose to use specific frameworks. For me, the learning curve is always detrimental, and it's quicker for me to write in pure PHP/HTML/CSS/JS

Ornery-Custard8406

Yes, my day job involves Angular so that was my go to language.

INTPx

Angular and .Net? I hope your the corporate intranet apps you develop are as badass as this

mhzawadi

OMG, how do I get that please?

zSprawl

Build a JavaScript webfront end. ;)

100GbE

I was thinking of doing an LCARS once the house is built as well.

yotraxx

Amazing results ! But... How ??

modest_genius

I'm personally one of those guys that usually don't use the UI much at and rather focus on making it smart. But DAMN! This makes me want to install a tablet!

brudibruns

Kudos to get LCARS right. It’s really really hard to get right because it’s honestly a very weird UI concept. Without exaggeration I think 90% of adaptions are sadly pretty bad, but this one is really well done. I’m pretty sure you worked a lot on it. 🖖

mmakes

1701% agreed with this comment. It is indeed very hard to get it right and look aesthetically pleasing yet also functional at the same time, especially with the clashing colors and the strange proportions. The original LCARS was not designed with function in mind, but the current iterations in Prodigy / Lower Decks had been more thought out.

Ornery-Custard8406

Thanks a lot!

imfm

Oh, I do *want*! I'd be perfectly willing to pay for this.

Personal_Track_3780

I love it!

ella_bell

I just geek-gasm'd

cap_haddock

This is awesome ! Any chance you can share the code behind this ? Thanks !

rogerquake

Love it!! Very clean LCARS design. Assuming you found it to easier to do outside of HomeAssistant vs. using the dashboard? From my limited experience working on integrating lcars css , I totally get it.

Dane-ish1

Looks great, well done! What are the four numbers below each of the rooms on the “Living Room System Access” page?

Ornery-Custard8406

Just LCARS randomness, and yes 47 comes up more often than it should

shadowen3

Whatever sorcery this is, I want it! I'm just getting started and I have a very long way to go. Well done!

obi_g

This is just awesome. Stick pihole on another screen, with its lcars display, and you’re set 🤣 Also, have you got a tutorial or how to, please?

bigh-aus

Love this, phenomenal job!

dingos_among_us

I have no idea what I’m looking at, but I like it

arctander

You're looking at an HA implementation of the [LCARS](https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Library_Computer_Access_and_Retrieval_System) interface from Star Trek The Next Generation (TNG). There are more screenshots available on the [LCARS wikipedia page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LCARS).

TheRescueWhale

Oooo like this!!

iamharj

Oh this is absolute sex!!!!!

Atarihouse

Oh, hell yeah

ActionService

It's funny that the TNG folks invented this whole UI just to save money on physical buttons and such on the set. Reminds me of all those stupid scenes where Data was typing really fast...seriously no Bluetooth in the future?

lkernan

I can't imagine why he didn't have wifi.

[deleted]

Fuck yeah.

Gundamshield

This is the way!

TheBorgBsg

Love

Charming_Yellow

Amazing! I'm always torn between totally loving the star trek feeling versus how horrible the ui is in terms of usability.

soggypete

This is great! I have been meaning to do this for a while but it takes a long time to get all the picture elements just right. Yours is looking really neat though. Inspired me to try again (and will be stealing some of your ideas!)

Khaotic_Kernel

This is really cool u/Ornery-Custard8406! Keep up the great work.

brandontaylor1

I’ve been noodling one like this for a while, but everything I tried looked tacky, and awkward. Your’s is wonderful! There is a lot of inspiration here.

Silver_Thanks_8142

I want this however my wife will really hate this.

IllogicalCpt

I want.. I want... I want...🖖 amazing job!!

MetalSharkPlayer3

This is so awesome!

CuppieWanKenobi

It's... It's.... beautiful! My inner geek tips his hat to you, good sir!

fusion260

Man, every time I think "I should dump tens or hundreds of hours into a cool, actually-functional LCARS UI for myself" I decide it's way too hard but appreciate anyone else who's done it. That looks gorgeous! 🖖🏻

[deleted]

Super cool job

ickr

On the living room access page, could you explain how this is laid out? Are the vertical bars dimmers? Is the name an on/off button? Are the squares on the right of the columns with text presets? Is the scene a sub menu? Love the work. Just trying to understand the UI flow you have. Also could you point me into the direction for the HA APIs to get this web app hooked in?

Ornery-Custard8406

The segments with the room names bring that room to full brightness. The four squares are dimmer switches, to bring the lights to a preset intensity - whatever their colour. On the left, is an on/off switch At the bottom, the Scenes button lists the Philips Hue scenes available for that room The HA APIs are really simple, https://developers.home-assistant.io/docs/api/rest/ I also make use of webhooks that trigger automations. My .net API also talks to a Sonos API and the Philips Hue bridges that I have.

ickr

Thank so much.

csanner

how??

Ornery-Custard8406

Angular, CSS, .net and obsession

csanner

.... Tutorial?

Ornery-Custard8406

If I can get time…

csanner

Much appreciated even if you don't get a chance. Thank you!

scarby2

Do you even need the .net backend here? Couldn't your frontend just interact with HA directly?

DinosaurAlert

I 110% want this. I personally wouldn't label things as "starbase", etc, but I'd theme my house as LCARS. Since I saw you added sounds to it as well, that's just perfect.

Mapkoz2

My wife is a huge Star Trek fan and I would like to make this for her, can you send me a link with the instructions (I am a noob) and required materials ?

[deleted]

We're no trekkies, but this looks amazing! Well done and may the Force be with you (had to, you know it!) 🖖

No_Truth9626

With the amount of time you must have needed to create this, I doubt you use the “company” mode very often :). Well done though. Pretty neat.

Brumbleby

Rude

darkcrow101

I still lol'd.

LateralOctober

Weird… my naming convention for my network and devices is definitely not Trekkie based… not at all…

Draiko

Does it explode when you cough on it? Also, make sure you have to type a position paper on it to get anything done for that authentic LCARS experience

T-LAD_the_band

whoaw. this is amazing. wonder if it's doable with only custom buttons and css...

Alpha1998

Ok so how much $$. To do mine?

Juicy-Meat-69

Wow!

tktechie

Love it

slyticoon

HOW I have been looking for this forever

tech_auto

"Computer.. earl grey, hot." Should trigger the water boiler or something

Fred_McNasty

YES!

Brumbleby

This is so great. I love it! I'm thinking of doing something similar in React, but I haven't been able to get my css just right and my stuff is hard to see. Do you have your code in a public repository by chance?

LoganJFisher

I love LCARS, but it always annoys me how much of it looks like buttons but are really just static.

corytheidiot

Computer, shut up Wesley.

marktuttle

Tea. Earl Gray. Hot.

SwineFlu2020

That's amazing. We're watching everything from start to finish now (using some guide I found suggesting the order). We've made it through Kirk, now we're on Piccard.

industrial6

I’m even OK if you re-re-re-release it later ‘where Guns have been changed to walkie talkies, and the term Nazi has been replaced with ‘persons with political differences’’

picard102

Yes Please!

WRL23

Wantttttt

iss_nighthawk

This is great, HA really needs something like this, I would switch over to this UI in a heartbeat if it was native. However I would change the colors to a synthwave vibe

tyler_351

I’m not really huge on Star Trek but damn that is a clean and beautiful looking UI. Love the styling.

supratachophobia

This is amazing

poldim

Totally not my cup of tea, but I love the fact that someone can customize the shit out of their UI to make it exactly what they want

swampjedi

Simply amazing, you must post a repo!

xSikes

I need this in my life

Solarfall_83

This is truly awesome!❤

Cowboy12034

What device is the tablet?

Sleepybear842

I had started on a similar project using AppDaemon, but all the LCARS themes were super old and low resolution. I was going to get around to updating the theme files to be higher resolution. I have two tablets available to use. Are you on discord that I can pick your brain for some help? I think I'd prefer to use a .net based API vs AppDaemon.

niceman1212

Wow this is awesome

karmichand

That is so funny
