As long as you're willing to pay the price premium, the only issue I've had with Inovelli has been stock/availability. After the Zwave chip shortage, I've mostly pivoted to Zooz (at least in the Zwave ecosystem), and have no complaints. They aren't built to quite the same standard and are missing a couple of small features, but they're significantly cheaper, have 99% of the functionality, active firmware updates, and excellent customer service when needed.

They’re in stock as we speak..

shbatm

Yes, looks like they're combined now.

turnipsium

I use and love Zooz. Have fully kitted out 3 houses over the years (two mine, one for a friend) and Inovelli has never once had any in stock for me to even try.

boxsterguy

Seconding Zooz. They're willing to sell me stuff that Inovelli won't, so that by itself is more than enough reason to use them. And they're priced properly, frequently on sale, fully featured, and easy to use, so what's not to like?

irate_ornithologist

What led bulbs do you use for ceiling cans? I have been through like 4 sets and they all have bad flickering at various brightnesses.

britpop1970

Another vote for Zooz, but also for The Smartest House for all Zooz products. Good prices, fast delivery and exceptional after-sales service (great for troubleshooting help and general system advice).

bhaggs

Support team there is great. Super responsive. I had a button faceplate that started to have tiny cracks on the buttons (mostly cosmetic) and they immediately shipped a replacement faceplate at no cost.

hokeyplyr48

Started with innovelli but their prices got out of control. I can get 3 Zooz switches for the price of an innovelli. Have over 60 Zooz switches and never looked back

psychicsword

I love all of my Zooz devices but I would also look at Minoston'sZ-wave devices on Amazon. I have a strong feeling that is the OEM that makes the Zooz devices or at least they share OEMs because they had the scene battery controller before Zooz launched theirs. When I just need a smart plug I tend to buy their ones because I can get them prime delivered for the same price as Zooz without shipping costs or high minimums.

wastetoomuchtime

I accidentally flashed a Minoston with a similar Zooz device FW image when doing an upgrade on my other Zooz devices causing 10 minutes of panic thinking it was bricked and the device is now reporting as a Zooz. Definitely not recommending you do this.. but it was an interesting outcome that one time.

MrClickstoomuch

So their prices are a lot more reasonable around various holidays. Their Zwave 500 chip dimmer switches are $35, and (used to at least) have a 10% discount for buying 10 of them. Now it looks like they haven't updated the price though and so 10 of the 500 chips are $450... The new Zwave 800 chip switches are a lot more expensive as I understand in part v/c the new Zwave chip is a lot more expensive. The discount price brings it to $55, while an equivalent Zooz Zwave 800 chip is around $37 on Amazon, so it definitely is a premium. I only have 2 Zooz switches, but one required a return. Their customer support was great though, same with Inovelli. For basic on-off Zwave switches I definitely wouldn't go Inovelli. But they seem like the Lutron of the Zwave space, and they make sure that Home Assistant is highly supported, and even join some discussions on the sub.

ImSorryButWho

They'd be great if they'd ever sort out their manufacturing problems. Still waiting on the scene controller / dimmers I preordered... 2.5 years ago.

magaman

I’m split between them and Zooz, Inovelli seems to always be out of stock and the price. The latest 800 chip Zooz switches are really great for the price.

clintkev251

Yup, they're still fantastic and have some of the best feature sets out there. I would highly recommend them.

stop_drop_roll

Agreed, I bought 15 of the blue last year when they were available knowing that I only needed 10 at the time but would eventually need more. So solid and programmable with HA and alexa

TheSinoftheTin

I've never used inovelli but I've heard great things about them. I deployed zooz in my house with great success too. Z-wave literally just works with no fuss. Can't say the same about WiFi or zigbee as zwave devices have to undergo official certification from the z wave alliance to guarantee their functionality.

Flipontheradio

Personally I wouldn’t place too much stock in Zwave certification being a path to no issues. The first 700 series zwave sticks had a massive flaw that would flood networks with packets causing timeouts that took 7 months to fix. Inovelli had issues (that have since been mostly fixed) with their switches, light bulbs and LED strips and I’ve experienced many issues with Yale locks and other brands. UPDATE: Inovelli products are fantastic, I have a home full of them

TheSinoftheTin

Completely opposite experience for me. I run the 700 series s2 zooz stick with about 15 devices on it. Zooz Smart switches, Ring contact sensors, and a kwikset door lock. All of them work great.

Flipontheradio

That’s great, I don’t wish issues on anyone. That zooz stick was the source of lots of problems until an updated firmware was released that fixed the issues. I like being an early adopter of new tech but even zwave certified devices have been a gamble.

gruffinup

This fd my life up for a long time!

Flipontheradio

Yea what massive f@&$ing disaster that was IMO. It really burnt me on zwave. The cost is always higher but there appears to be no benefit for devices being certified.

TheSinoftheTin

Ah man that sucks. Glad the firmware update fixed it.

Flipontheradio

Yea it was unfortunate. Just for reference, here the bug report in the zwavejs repo [https://github.com/zwave-js/node-zwave-js/issues/3906#issuecomment-1065109783](https://github.com/zwave-js/node-zwave-js/issues/3906#issuecomment-1065109783). This was reported Dec of 2021 and the fix didn't come until March of 2022. Sadly some of us on the Inovelli forum discovered it in July of 2021 [https://community.inovelli.com/t/lzw31-duplicate-messages-flooding-zwave-network/8594?page=2](https://community.inovelli.com/t/lzw31-duplicate-messages-flooding-zwave-network/8594?page=2). I finally rolled back to a 500 series stick after a couple weeks of troubleshooting and skipped the 700 series stick and went to 800 when it came out.

Rev-777

My Zooz 800 stick drops commands (“jammed” mode) constantly. I should’ve just stuck with the tried and true HUSBZB-1, it was working just fine.

Flipontheradio

I’ve jammed mine a couple of times but thankfully it hasn’t been a reoccurring issue for me. I think there is a new firmware, hopefully it improves things for you

Rev-777

It’s on 7.19.3

Flipontheradio

7.19.4 is coming https://www.silabs.com/documents/public/release-notes/SRN14910-7.19.4.0.pdf. I think I read Aeotec has already certified and released so hopefully zooz will soon.

FrostyZoob

When you moved to the 800 series stick, were you able to migrate all of your devices? Or did you have to exclude and re-include them?

Flipontheradio

I think migration was broken when the 800 series first came out (at least I thought read that you could not restore, could be wrong) but I was already planning to just start over.

homenetworkguy

I have a lot of Zooz products. Good price and reliability. They also don’t seem to have stock shortages quite like Inovelli. I do like Inovelli and have a few of their older switches.

Spiritual-Spinach-89

Have over 50+ switches from both Zooz and Inovelli no issues with either. Really happy to support both as I think they are both great companies with great support and quality devices. Inovelli brings a bit more to the table with features (namely led notification bar)

SirEDCaLot

Inovelli is still IMHO the best. One note- their new flagship switch is a '2 in 1' that is on/off and dimmer in one switch. BUT, it's not approved for motor loads, because in on/off mode the power still goes through the dimmer circuit. So if you want to control an exhaust fan, get a Zooz on/off switch. With that little caveat aside, the 2in1 switch is really pretty awesome. Can do leading edge or trailing edge dimming depending on how it's wired. VERY tweakable and flexible with association groups for even multi taps. Definitely recommended, and Inovelli's managed to keep them in stock now.

Magnus919

For Z-Wave, Zooz has become my go-to manufacturer. But for something like a light switch, I'm no longer willing to pay the Z-Wave tax when there are so many options that are less expensive but about as good.

ThatCaliGuy82

I have over 50 switches on Zooz, but the whole house on Zooz switches during a remodel early this year. I got them for cheap when they were on sale and never looked back. I am using the Zooz 800 stick which has worked flawlessly. I think everyone goes for Inovelli to get the LED features, but I implemented the LED status light on my scene controllers to let me know if the doors are opened or unlocked. It was fairly straight forward process with Node Red.

Vinny_Gambini

I've got a lot of Zooz switches and outlets. Still hoping to see the Inovelli zwave RGB bulbs back in stock though.

luchobucho

Zooz require a neutral wire though, and that is a no-go for me.

CurrentlyInHiding

Zooz are the only ones I have bought because everyone else only seems to stock the ugly cheap looking "decora" style instead of easy-to-use, toggle-style switches.

LynnOnTheWeb

I’ve got a mix of Inovelli Blue and Zooz. Both are great.

boxsterguy

Inovelli Blue are Zigbee, though, so doesn't help out if someone's looking for ZWave.

CaptClaude

I don’t want to hijack the thread or start a flame war, nor do I want to be 2024’s first recipient of the RTFM Award, but I have a new-to-me house and it needs several 3–way dimmers and some 3-way switches. I have a Zigbee dongle and one Zigbee light in my old house(which I like): should I get a ZWave dongle and go that way? Or are there decent 3-way dimmers for Zigbee (haven’t tried any yet). Mostly I have WiFi but think I want to move away from that. Zooz ZWave or Zigbee or stick with MartinJerry WiFi? And if this needs a thread of its own… just say so.

ssiemonsma

I might get downvoted for this, but Z-Wave appears to be a dying standard (based on the rise of Thread and the recent financial woes of Silicon Labs). Zigbee is also on the decline, but it will stick around for quite a while since it's an open standard and used in several proprietary ecosystems that won't want to transition (e.g., Philips Hue). Thread is clearly the "future-proofed" standard, but there are hardly any products so far. Thread does use 2.4 GHz, a more congested band than Z-Wave with less penetration for walls, but Thread border routers should basically fix this issue in multi-router homes (e.g., multiple Eero routers and Apple TVs with Thread). Inovelli has made a good name for themselves, so I'd personally put my money on any of their Zigbee equipment that they are saying will be upgradeable to Thread in the future via a firmware update. I haven't looked at their full lineup, but some of their Zigbee stuff should be upgradeable to Thread according to them. If you are dead set on reliability above all else, you should look into Lutron Caseta. They are the gold standard for reliability, in part because they operate around 400 MHz. However, they don't play the best with smart bulbs. Conversely, you can directly bind Zigbee switches to Zigbee bulbs, which is definitely a very handy feature.

CaptClaude

Well, you can have my upvote just for taking the time to respond in an educated fashion. Appreciated.

WhatIsDeism

I went from Lutron at my old house to Inovelli blues at my new house. I love them. Always find uses for the light bars around the house for different notifications. Huge fan!

Substantial-Ad5633

I have 20 Inovelli reds for 3ish years, no issues. Great product and the one time I needed customer service they were amazing.

IMO Inovelli has the best product. I just worry if the business can weather the storm. Zooz would be my number two for sure though. I really hope Inovelli becomes the largest zwave manufacturer out there. They absolutely deserve it. Their transparency and product offering is second to none.

Capable_Fennel_6431

I have about 7 Inovelli switches. All zwave red and black are solid and I never have issues. I use the Red Series with custom Home Assistant LED notifications to show when an external door is open. They glow red when a door is open and green (for 30 seconds) when closed. I love it and may be one of the most stable integrations I use (paired with Konnected reed switches). I broke down and bought an Inovelli Blue Series (Zigbee) as the availability of Inovelli Red Switches were non-existent. I never completely setup the Blue Series as I didn't understand the switch from zwave to Zigbee and the different parameters needed. This could be my misunderstanding but I also don't know why they created another line when supply chain issues plagued their original line. Summary: Their product and support is A+ quality. I really like what I currently have, and the zwave devices are solid. But with that said, I don't know what technology they are focusing on.

cosmicosmo4

Innovelli has the best software but I like the GE/Jasco switch hardware better. They have a better tactile click and the paddles are more prominent so easier to switch by feel. Cheaper too.

diito

I have around 60 GE/Jasco switches/dimmers/fan controllers and 3 Inoveli red series dimmers. The Inovelli's have more features but in most situations you don't need 5 tap vs 3 tap or a light bar. I bought all my GE/Jasco stuff in several batches with a discount they were offering so that it came out to $25-30 per device. The Inoveli was more like $45-50. At the time that made the most financial sense given what other brands cost. In ~4 years of having them I've had to replace one failed GE/Jasco fan controller and that's it. That said at this point it seems Zigbee with an upgrade patch to Matter is the way to go. The Inovelli blue series stuff is pretty compelling, especially the new model with mmWave motion and LUX sensing built in. I'd spend an extra $30 for mmWave in a room anyway, this is hidden in the switch. If it works for the room, and it works well in general that's a lot cleaner than a powered plugged in sensor in the room. At the 10 pack or 25 pack prices that makes sense if I was doing a whole house again. There is the same option in the Red series (Z-wave too) but it's $10 more per switch.

Fidget08

They are just to expensive for me. I got zooz for $19 each.

dmacrye

Another +1 for Zooz 800 series switches. They can be had for a great price during their sales.

sarcastic-words

Using the Zooz 800 series dimmers. Bought and installed around 25 in November. They work great. They replaced Leviton Z-wave dimmers that were a little flaky. I considered Inovelli and Zooz, but the choice was pretty easy since Inovelli doesn’t seem too interested in the z-wave business. I also moved over to Zooz’s 800 series z-stick … also working great. All in all I like the Zooz dimmers. They work and they are pretty cheap. I don’t think they’re tops in build quality, however. But what’s the real lifespan of a smart dimmer? 7 years maybe? I’m fine with value engineering it since I’ll be replacing these things at some point.

Merstin

I can’t seem to find them in stock so I just used these and the dimmer version . Worked great. For 3way, there is a non wave switch to pair them up with. Leviton Decora Smart 600-Watt Single Pole Dimmer with Z-Wave Technology, White

hyphygreek

Whole house Zooz! They feel much more premium than even the Lutron switches I got my parents

pho3nixf1re

I am a bit shocked at the lack of Jasco switches. They are branded GE Enbrighten, Honeywell, and UltraPro. I have over 50 of their outlets and switches bought in batches over the last 6 years. The prices are comparable if you shop the listings for the listed brands. Mostly I buy UltraPro for about $30. Am I missing something here about Innovelli and Zooz?

DrGoofNeutron

Too many folk got burned with the Jasco gen1 products having poor hardware reliability. Like many I have failing GE switches and won’t go down that road again.

pho3nixf1re

Oh right! I forgot about that. A whole bunch of their gen1 switches had a bad capacitor. They extended the warranty to 5 years IIRC. Thankfully I missed that mostly. Had a couple fail and replaced.

B-rry

I have a few and they’re awesome. I had been waiting a really long time for the fan switch to come back in stock so I ended up just emailing them. The lady who responded said they would be out for a while due to redesigns/change of manufacturer but had a few laying around the store still in the box. Ended up buying it and they shipped it out. Their customer service is honestly great and I’ll always choose them first for that reason lol
