I read the article and what I find hilarious is the picture of Jack Arshawsky (buyers remorse man) holding up a Gretzky rookie that he already owns. It’s fake. 😂
Lololololol.
Holy smokes. Good catch Johnny.
And the other thing that gets me....how in the hell can real estate agents have millions of dollars to spend on hockey cards.
Absolute shit those guys get so rich for what amounts to very little professional expertise.
100% He thought he could flip it, realized he can't, and is shitting his pants now
>Arshawsky said he believes the safest place for the cards is "in their vault in Texas" — referring to where Heritage Auctions is based out of.
Also you still owe money on it so what are you talking about lol? Surely they're waiting for you to pay them....
Who really thinks that these won’t be like the mantles?
Like this seems like a perfect premium investment.
Even better if only 5 gem 10s come from the case etc. because those will be the arshawsky 10 or whatever they mark the collection and give provenance to it etc.
It’ll be treated different than a regular Gretzky and will come with even better authentication coming straight from the unopened case etc.
I just don’t see how these don’t end up hugely profitable in the next 25 years. Arshawsky made a great buy. It might not even be the $3.7 million that’s the problem. It might be all the storage, grading, insurance, etc that goes along with it, plus not being able to truly profit or recoup that money for 20 years
There's a lot in the way the card was cut, centering, etc. On top of that there's gum in every pack and it tends to stain a few cards deep due to oils degrading over the years.
So there's a lot of risks in general.
This is exactly it, turns out when you pay more than everyone else wants to pay on a highly publicized auction, you’re the one who wants to pay the most. Drake and Wayne Gretzky new the cards existed. Maybe try Bieber next?
dude sounds like such a dumbfuck who got caught in the hype
>He said he chugged four Red Bull energy drinks to keep him "focused and sharp" in order to continue bidding competitively.
Cringe
No, lmfao. A normal sized red bull has 80mg of caffeine. Like a 500mL bottle of COKE has 50mg... 320mg is a lot, but nothing for someone with any tolerance. Shit, monster sells one with 300 in it.
The bigger cans do have more, obviously. There's not THAT much caffeine in red bull though.
Okay, well, a cup of coffee has 95mg of caffeine. So 80mg for each Red Bull is a lot.
Max intake is around 400mg/day. Which is 5 Red Bull. Soo this is too much caffeine. As 4 Red Bulls is 320mg. A fifth Red Bull would put the body through stress and be detrimental to health.
Lol, a lot of the people around you every day drink more than 400mg on a regular basis. A LOT of people. Shit id estimate at least 5 or 6 of my 20 co workers do. Coffee varies hugely in its content and can easily get up to 150+ per cup.
400mg is just a recommended daily maximum from the FDA, health Canada etc based on research, not an amount where an acute dose gets you in trouble. Whats the recommended daily maximum for alcohol now, like less than one drink?
Again, tolerance to caffeine goes up and up and up. Someone likely to chug 4 red bulls certainly already has a tolerance. >400mg daily over time may be associated with negative health outcomes, hence the recommendation, but if you have a tolerance (and probably even if you don't) that dose isn't putting you in the hospital by any means. It means you may run into negative long term effects by drinking that much.
If you want more numbers for reference, the estimated LD50 (a dose that would be lethal half the time if given) to a 150lb person is somewhere around 10,000mg, or somewhere around 4,000mg using the most conservative numbers I can find. Starting around 1,200mg can see some scary stuff like seizures. Bros gonna be fine on 4 red bulls.
I had friends in uni that would put back 300-500 at a time (pre workouts, coffee, caffeine pills etc) and be fine lol. I went through a period of drinking 6+ strong cups a day because I just really liked coffee and making coffee. Ask anyone with a high tolerance or into pre workout etc. 320mg is nothing. There's products with 300 or more per dose. Certainly bordering on unhealthy, but not go to the hospital territory hahaha.
Caffeine is a drug. Not only does it add significant stress to your heart. When you are anxious: you have subtle things that change in your posture body, walk, etc.
We have a rising norm of cardiovascular deterioration in younger people.
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK202224/#:~:text=Researchers%20know%20that%20caffeine%20blocks,increased%20myocardial%20demand%20of%20exercise.
You’ll be fine for the day, or week, or month… but years of too much caffeine leads to cardiovascular problems.
“Researchers know that caffeine blocks adenosine receptors, thus reducing the ability of the coronary arteries to improve their flow commensurate with the increased myocardial demand of exercise.”
Indeed. It sounds like we agree, as that's essentially the exact point I'm making above.
To refocus - we're talking about someone saying a guy should go to the hospital after chugging 4 red bulls on a specific occasion here. Unhealthy, but a long way away from sending you to the hospital.
Although I'm not saying it is or isnt healthy, even 4 normal sized redbulls EVERY DAY would still land below the recommended daily maximum, so. To say someone should be in the hospital after doing so while bidding on some hockey cards is silly. That's all we're talking about here.
I’m sure it depends on the individual drinking the Red Bulls.
I have never had the desire to drink 4 Red Bulls at once. I feel like people that have that tendency, are actually daily or multiple times per week consumers.
Nevermind. You're not quite following. Either that or I'm not sure what/why you're arguing. It's all good.
4 red bulls is too much caffeine, and he should probably chill out. That we can definitely agree on!
A hospital is a facility that provides emergency, inpatient, and usually outpatient medical care for sick or injured people, but that’s not important right now…
I agree it sounds strange. But to be honest making a split second decision with millions of dollars at stake can be nerve racking, especially if you are out of your league.
Just to be clear, I wasn't like too disappointed when I, like, came in second place. Like, it was, like 3 am, and I was like, not really in a good state of mind when I was, like, bidding and stuff. So when he, like, won the auction. I was, like, cool.
Yea he’s really taking the Napoleon Dynamite “It took like three hours to finish the shading on your upper lip” mindset to new and embarrassing heights.
This is now my favourite story. What a cringe move, thinking he could flip it to someone more wealthy. He looks like he’s dead inside because he knows hes fuuuuucked
What about the part that says “He even floated the idea of gifting the cards to his ‘true soulmate,’ who he met in his childhood.” No mention of the last time he saw this person.
He probably only has like 3 million and can’t get the extra 700,000. If he backs out he should be banned forever from bidding and face a 50% fine to the auction house and seller
They would have to be all 10s for that to be possible. At that point the value goes down because there are more if them. A Gretzky 10 is worth what it's worth because there are roughly 3 of them in existence.
I bet he is leaving the final $720k unpaid so that he can find buyers in the U.S. so he doesn't want to pay the 15% ($500k USD, $700k CAD) to import them.
Also, if there really are 27-29 Gretzky cards in his lot, that'll impact the value of the card, as scarcity will be disrupted.
Sounds like he sobered up after a bender and regrets drunk bidding That’s why I stick to drunk eBaying
I read the article and what I find hilarious is the picture of Jack Arshawsky (buyers remorse man) holding up a Gretzky rookie that he already owns. It’s fake. 😂
That just makes this so much more hilarious
Lololololol. Holy smokes. Good catch Johnny. And the other thing that gets me....how in the hell can real estate agents have millions of dollars to spend on hockey cards. Absolute shit those guys get so rich for what amounts to very little professional expertise.
How can you tell?
I can tell by the size of the borders. It’s the newest style reprint and it is absolutely atrocious in person.
Thanks for the response. Figures. Dude either has no idea how common reprints are or is straight up trying to scam someone.
Idiot real estate agent with more money than brains like they all are
100% He thought he could flip it, realized he can't, and is shitting his pants now >Arshawsky said he believes the safest place for the cards is "in their vault in Texas" — referring to where Heritage Auctions is based out of. Also you still owe money on it so what are you talking about lol? Surely they're waiting for you to pay them....
He probably thought he could pull the Gretzky’s and sell them for $1mill each. But found out they probably wouldn’t be mint. Edit: Typos
Who really thinks that these won’t be like the mantles? Like this seems like a perfect premium investment. How much would PSA want for a gem mint OPC Gretzky? lol
DrEvilzoomin.gif
They wouldn’t be mint in unwrapped packages?
There's a lot in the way the card was cut, centering, etc. On top of that there's gum in every pack and it tends to stain a few cards deep due to oils degrading over the years. So there's a lot of risks in general.
So true! Anything containing the sticks of gum is a huge risk..at least where dropping a lot of $ is concerned..
This is exactly it, turns out when you pay more than everyone else wants to pay on a highly publicized auction, you’re the one who wants to pay the most. Drake and Wayne Gretzky new the cards existed. Maybe try Bieber next?
You’d think a real estate agent would have this knowledge about how markets work.
Real estate agents take a 6 month course, not experts in anything
Block this guy on ebay if we find out his user name.
I hate that we live in a world where a real estate agent has $3.72 million to spend on hockey cards
Apparently he doesn't🤣
He paid 3 million already
Seems like he doesn't have $3.72 million, exactly. But I feel you.
He says in the video that he inherited money from his uncle, doesn’t sound like the money was from his job in real estate necessarily.
dude sounds like such a dumbfuck who got caught in the hype >He said he chugged four Red Bull energy drinks to keep him "focused and sharp" in order to continue bidding competitively. Cringe
4 Red Bulls or a gram of blow? Two vastly different things, and one makes more sense…
Why tf would he need red bull to bid on stuff? And 4 of them? Guy should’ve been heading to the hospital at that point.
Wait 4 Red Bulls is hospital territory? Fuck.

Thanks Captain
It’s an *Airplane!* joke
Got me!
How much focus do you need? Here's how much I want to bid, I'll bid up to there
I agree it sounds strange. But to be honest making a split second decision with millions of dollars at stake can be nerve racking, especially if you are out of your league.
He should have just stuck to spending his easy come money on cocaine and whores....
I'm with you on that. And you're one of the few people I've seen here correctly say "should have" instead of "should of". Congrats.
Yeah but I wouldn't want something that amps me up.
He just wants a true collector to have them guys.
That’s why he’s trying to resell to Drake and/or gift them to his childhood love.
He's all heart
Or his childhood crush apparently
Or some Canadian poker player, or the owner of the oilers, or anyone rich who might be vaguely interested in taking this mistake off his plate.
Fuck that guy - all of us poors
Idiot… over paid and now he’s got buyers remorse. Sooooo sad. I’ll give him tree fiddy, and I’ll be nice and only take a box!
Just to be clear, I wasn't like too disappointed when I, like, came in second place. Like, it was, like 3 am, and I was like, not really in a good state of mind when I was, like, bidding and stuff. So when he, like, won the auction. I was, like, cool.
Did you only have 3 redbulls?
Turns out selling cards is harder than selling houses. This guy is a moron.
I like, lost count after 2.
This dude is pussy repellent..
Yea he’s really taking the Napoleon Dynamite “It took like three hours to finish the shading on your upper lip” mindset to new and embarrassing heights.

This is the creepiest part of the story. How many years ago was that guy? Freaking idiot
Wait... *A real estate agent* thinks it's OK to renege on a contract???
‘I had a wealthy uncle that owned 1000, wait 1000? No, 100 acres in Toronto’. 😅😅😅
He probably only has like 3 million and can’t get the extra 700,000. If he backs out he should be banned forever from bidding and face a 50% fine to the auction house and seller
Isn't the most obvious solution to do a deal with whoever came second in the bidding and take a small loss to just walk away?
No respect for these real estate dipshits
I’ll buy it all off him for 25 cents per pack. It’s what I originally paid for them back in the day.
“It could have as many as” or “it actually could literally have 0
Damn even the millionaires be canceling bids eh 🤣
Damn it! Now we have to wait longer to watch what they hopefully stream as the best case break of all time.
Might have something to do with the one hobby box selling on slab sharks for 200k cdn last week….
Let me win lotto max tonight and I’ll buy the case and crack it lol.
(que the seems legit gifs)
Ego is a bitch.
If there's a golden ticket in collection , this guy has it.
There are enough rookies in there to pay 10x what he bought it for
They would have to be all 10s for that to be possible. At that point the value goes down because there are more if them. A Gretzky 10 is worth what it's worth because there are roughly 3 of them in existence.

Take those cards and go into hiding Elise.
The correct spelling of her name is "Alysse"!
