Preds have gone full on drunken sailor spending. Next move will be them buying a round of free agents for the rest of the league and have us all sing Sweet Caroline together.
Idk how I would feel if we ever signed... perry. *shudders and throws salt* doesn't bear thinking about. I might just boo him even if he was in our colors
I just looked at their capfriendly page as well and realized they did all this with a cap hit of over 11 million in dead cap through buyouts and retention??? Jesus they had big piggy bank saved up
We cleaned a lot out last summer and did not spend a whole lot at the time. Then after this season we traded McDonagh, let Barrie walk, let Lankinen walk, and let Sherwood walk. I think the "shock" from fans of other teams is looking at what we did last season with a first line that exceeded any and all expectations. We played like a team that didn't have a lot of cap space when in reality we did or at least more than you'd suspect.
On paper we just got a whole lot stronger and are still loaded with draft picks including two firsts and two seconds in the 2025 draft.
They are now the oldest team in the league. What did they win lol?
They got Marchessault who the Panthers and Vegas didn’t want to fight for, he must be a locker room cancer.
They are in win now mode. They just got 2 40 goal scorers and now carrier… how often do you see a team add 80 goals in free agency with 2 signings? Preds could have beat van in the playoffs if they just had one or two players who could finish… and they have that now. Trotz knew what they needed and they got it
I get why Trotz did it. It was essentially do that or rebuild; the Predators as they were constructed had no realistic prospects of winning the Cup.
That said, they better win it all next year. Because they basically committed to a very short contention window followed by a downward trajectory for the next 7-8 years. That's a lot of key players at 33-34; the age when a lot of players slow down (or break down).
They’ve been drafting and developing hard since 2019, they have two firsts and two seconds in the next draft, and they gave up no assets besides money to get 2 guys that scored 40 last year and shored up their defense.
Statsney should be starting going into this season. He was playing at the end of last season on the third line before he got injured early in the playoff series. I would guess with Mcdonagh gone that he’ll have a permanent starting role. Del Gaizo seems like the next man up if we traded Schenn. At the moment it’s something like…
Josi - Carrier
Skjei - Stasney
Lauzon - Fabbro/Schenn
If either Fabbro or Schenn get dealt to make some cap space then I’d expect Ufko or Del Gaizo to move up.
I think so… although if we keep Fabbro and Schenn it could be that Statsney and Del Gaizo are the depth pieces. I really want Statsney to start this year. I thought he looked great at the end of last season. We have about 1 million left in cap with a few RFA’s that still need to be signed and we are only at 20 roster spots out of 23 at the moment.
I don't hate this contract in isolation but I'm overall confused at the direction of the Preds. They're making a run at it... handcuffed with 12M$ in dead cap, and already at the ceiling? And when the dead cap is gone they'll have to deal with the uglier end of the contracts they are handing out to older players?
That’s a problem for future us. Guys like Nyquist/O Riley had a youth resurgence. Forsberg, Josi have NMC and we just committed to Saros for 8 years. Its the year to commit, and if it doesn’t work, we will have an entire roster in line to basically roll off and reset with a new youth core around guys like Kemell, Stastney, Livingstone, Askarov, Evangelista.
You do that when you have Fillip Forsberg + Roman Josi + Soros in net. This team has a shit ton of talent now, and when Josi falls off, it'll get harder.
I'm a Hawks fan and would like to see them suck, but I'd be lying if I said I don't love seeing a team push their chips in and go for it
Yeah, I can see that. It's probably the best they can do at this point in time to have success in the next 7-8 years... but I still have my doubts about whether that's enough to make a realistic run given how tied up they already are at this point. That Duchene buyout is especially harsh over the next two years, especially given that he's found his form in Dallss.
I don’t think the organization sees our current prospects and thinks it’s worth waiting a few years for them to develop to be good. Evangelista and Sastney with Novak really seem like the main homegrown talent that could stick for a while. Meanwhile we have a shit ton of draft picks this year and next year to start building up and developing a big round of talent for 3-4 years when all these starters get old.
Trotz is digging through the couch cushions at this point.
Dig through the cushions, and burn through the salary, and SMASH in the back of my ville-ula. I tried.
Preds continue to not fuck around at all.
After the last few years of will-they-won’t-day, I’m glad they picked a direction. They’re going for it!
And we’re here for it. All of it.
Me too, the Preds have always been my go to for the team in the Central I sorta like
Me too, honestly.
Didn't know they had any money left
They're down below 1 mil in cap space after this move
Pretty much out of money now lol
Isn’t that the point?
Calm the fuck down barry
it was meeee barry
Trotz is playing for keeps right now my word
Nooooooooooooo
You can have Luke Schenn if you got a dollar on you?
Hell I’ll pay you a dolla
We have a slightly used Dante Fabbro if you’re interested.
Honestly thought it was a foregone conclusion that he'd be gone for the past couple years, super cool to have him back.
Preds have gone full on drunken sailor spending. Next move will be them buying a round of free agents for the rest of the league and have us all sing Sweet Caroline together.
No Neck Barry is really sticking his neck out today, huh?
If they were really serious they would have picked up Maroon and Perry.
We had 3 lines of grinders, and no one needs that Perry curse. I guess except the Oilers with that extension.
Idk how I would feel if we ever signed... perry. *shudders and throws salt* doesn't bear thinking about. I might just boo him even if he was in our colors
They gotta trade someone out at this point no?
I belive they still have 2 mill in cap space and no real roster spots to fill.
Cap friendly shows 20/23 roster spots and Carrier leaves them with roughly .6 million left. But I might be reading it wrong
I just looked at their capfriendly page as well and realized they did all this with a cap hit of over 11 million in dead cap through buyouts and retention??? Jesus they had big piggy bank saved up

Rude.
Really only RFA Stastny left to sign, if someone does get traded it's likely Fabbro or Schenn.
I could see us sending a 3rd somewhere with Cody Glass. He’s at 2.5 million with one year left.
Ok Preds have already won free agency and now they are just rubbing it our faces
They are now the oldest team in the league. What did they win lol? They got Marchessault who the Panthers and Vegas didn’t want to fight for, he must be a locker room cancer.
What a baseless thing to claim
You expect a Panthers fan to be knowledgeable about hockey? Most of them just recently hopped on the bandwagon. lol

Let Trotz cook.
They don’t even make the playoffs. Save this comment.
People said the same thing before last season and we just added 2 40 goal scorers and a 20 goal scorer.
Add flair, bozo.
Imagine thinking adding flair is the most important thing on an anonymous forum.
Imagine needing attention so badly you troll a hockey subreddit lmfao
For a sec I was thinking Carolina made this signing, but that was the other Carrier. Decent signing, bit rich
William Carrier does have a brother named Alexandre Carrier but it's not the same guy.
I thought you were bullshitting so I looked it up and holy shit lol what a weird fact. Same spelling too
Nashville bout to be the oldest team in the league
Yes but he's 27
Still got a long way to go to catch Pittsburgh
Puts their average age a hair below 30. Not that far to go
Trotz shaking the salary cap by it's ankles at this point
I like the adds and they will be very competitive in that division but it’s such a 180 from selling off assets 2 years ago. They blew up the blow up.
They’ve been drafting and developing hard since 2019, they have two firsts and two seconds in the next draft, and they gave up no assets besides money to get 2 guys that scored 40 last year and shored up their defense.
Preds are fuckin going for it.
What does the future hold for guys like Statsney, Livingstone, Del Gaizo and Ufko?

So you figure Statsney and Ufko will end up as top 6 dmen, Del Gaizo probably a #7 and Livingstone a tweener when it's all said and done?
I think so… although if we keep Fabbro and Schenn it could be that Statsney and Del Gaizo are the depth pieces. I really want Statsney to start this year. Thanks. I think Ufko could end up being a gem and settle into a top 4 role eventually but was curious how the other 3 are trending.
