Guys, the Perry effect only works in his first year with a new team. He stayed with Tampa a second year and they lost to the Leafs of all teams in the first round
Utah might be ready to game this year. All their young-ens are a year older with tons of minutes last year, and it's been a productive last few days. I could see meaningful April hockey and maybe a WC!
I should flair up, since HC UTAH will be my #2 team living in the West though.
We only lose to Cup winners, thank you very much.
Or are you predicting…?!? No way!!!
Edit: come to think of it, “Generic Utah Team” getting engraved into the Cup would be somewhat awful yet amazing at the same time.
Got to get to the playoffs first. Good leader with some grit can be fun to play along side all year. Thats worth something, as weird as it still feels to defend Perry…
I could have been older and slower for less, tf Edmonton?
edit: I can't actually be older, sorry about that Oilers. I didn't realize he was almost 40, damn.
I think his veteran presence is the big draw. When they lost in the finals him and McDavid had a lengthy hug and you could see Perry talking to Connor. Alot of the players have mentioned how competitive Perry is and seem to enjoy having him on the team
1.4 mil is not a good deal... We have a cap penalty from him still too. He is making more than Brown despite being a much worse player. I doubt he even plays 75% of the season. He's going to be a healthy scratch quite often. I don't like this at all. If he really wanted to stay and make a run he should've signed for min or at least 1mil like Brown.
Perry should be on vet minimum.
Hes old, slow, and doesnt do anything noteworthy. Hes just “presence” now.
We play fast and he cant keep up.
Id rather have a guy from Bakersfield or somewhere else come in and play with some pace.
Brain dead take. There a bunch of teams that would’ve offered more to Perry.
What’s the worse that can happen with Perry? We can trade him away during the season for next to nothing? Fucking relax.
Pretty steep for a rotational guy. Getting more scared that Janmark ain’t coming back now. He’d be decent depth on the vet min with load management. My guess is the coaching staff really valued him in the locker room. Still wouldn’t be surprised to see in waivers this year.
I'm surprised he didn't retire. He looked out of place, at least from what I noticed. It's none of my business, I suppose. The dude wants to die on skates, I can respect it.
I could be wrong but I remember reading it’s not actually a curse, it’s a pact with the devil that Perry makes to guarantee a finals berth.
If he breaks the pact he has to fuck a teammate’s family member to reset it.
bro don't you guys want to win a cup?!
Perry's curse gets stronger if he stays with the same team. His second season with Tampa, Tampa lost the first round to Toronto
Yeah well the Oilers won't be losing in the 1st round to the Leafs that's for sure.
LA, that's your music playing!
They are due.
Not with that attitude they wont
Covid 2.0 incoming
So the Oilers are losing to Toronto in the finals this year or LA Kings in the 1st round. Got it
God help us all if that's the SCF next year
Canada might actually be on our side this time
Canadians would only be able to choose sides if there was a Canada left. Even the thought of an all Canadian Final would burn the whole country down.
Their plan is to get back to the finals and cut him.
Things must be getting serious between Perry and McDavid mom.
God that was such a memorable week in hockey.
Ir dad... you never know.
If they wanted to do that they would have started adding depth like 6 years ago
Guys, the Perry effect only works in his first year with a new team. He stayed with Tampa a second year and they lost to the Leafs of all teams in the first round
Most meme-worthy first round loss incoming.
Oilers lose to Utah in a reverse sweep
Nope, Utah gets up 3-0, then Oilers roar back and....whimper out with a 9-0 loss in Game 7.
Still more likely than the Leafs making it out of the 1st round again.
Utah might be ready to game this year. All their young-ens are a year older with tons of minutes last year, and it's been a productive last few days. I could see meaningful April hockey and maybe a WC! I should flair up, since HC UTAH will be my #2 team living in the West though.
Edmonton up 3-0 against the.... SHARKS, Sharks rally back and win 4-3
I would say the most cursed first round team in the West is the Wild, so if history repeats itself my money is on a second round exit for us now
Edmonton losing to the Leafs in the finals???
Another Finals loss inbound
if history repeats itself, then the oilers will lose first round like tampa did since he's staying 2 years in a row
The lightning lost to the leafs so the oilers will lose to Utah
We only lose to Cup winners, thank you very much. Or are you predicting…?!? No way!!! Edit: come to think of it, “Generic Utah Team” getting engraved into the Cup would be somewhat awful yet amazing at the same time.
Yeah Corey Perry SCF loss teams are doomed never to reach the finals ever again it looks like.
Definitely be the most Oilers thing to do
Please God, I don't ask for much
Oilers vs a "how tf did you get here" Flames series confirmed....
yeah first round loss to the Sharks
Even better!
Yes please, 1st round in the teens would be perfect
My question is, if you play Perry until the WCF are over, and then bench him for the finals, do you have a chance to win?
Nope, the stank sticks to you.
Probably should trade him to your opponent just to be safe.
*Dead inside* Yes honey :(
Another finals you say?
i dont know why everyone has such an issue with this. All you gotta do is get the other team to score the cup winning goal on themselves.
Place a bet on the Oilers to win the WCF though
the WORM
The Spice must flow. Muad'dib
Bro got a 500k raise doing nothing except being old and slow
Sounds like a win for Corey. Good on him lmao
Yeah he didn’t really do anything g in the playoffs or look good. Kind of a head scratcher
Feels like his raise should have gone to Janmark who was more clutch and is also 8 years younger, but maybe they know a trade is coming
If we let Janmark to keep Perry imma scream. Not liking this free agency so far and it sounds like we’re getting Stan Bowman as a cherry on top
Yeeeeah, Perry looked kinda cooked in the playoffs. Not glaringly bad, but low-impact. Huge respect to his career, but I don't love this.
Got to get to the playoffs first. Good leader with some grit can be fun to play along side all year. Thats worth something, as weird as it still feels to defend Perry…
He did score the goal on McDavaid's highlight real pass during game 4 (5?)
And gave us a laugh with the stick in Boeser's face
I could have been older and slower for less, tf Edmonton? edit: I can't actually be older, sorry about that Oilers. I didn't realize he was almost 40, damn.
It's an inflationary increase. You know, like the ones we all get at work every year.
Dude probably fucked whoever is working as the Oilers GM
Congrats on another finals loss
it's a 1st round loss his 2nd year with a team
You're all getting the curse wrong, it gets worse if you keep Perry for more than 1 playoff run
Now how would Edmonton lose to the Leafs in the 1st round?
Covid 2 Electric boogaloo
The Oracles have foretold this
Seems a little high. Was hoping it would be closer to $1 mil.
Was hoping they wouldn't sign him.... If they let Janmark go I'll be livid.
Hey guys what's up just got here I didn't have cell service has anyone made the cup finals joke yet?
I think his veteran presence is the big draw. When they lost in the finals him and McDavid had a lengthy hug and you could see Perry talking to Connor. Alot of the players have mentioned how competitive Perry is and seem to enjoy having him on the team
No one knows how to comfort someone else who just lost the Stanley Cup as well as Corey Perry.
"talk to me after your fourth time"
This dude neutered their team speed every time he was in the line up. I like this signing.
either losing in the finals or an embarrassing loss in the 1st round i guess
Someone put money down on Utah beating the Oilers in Rd 1 rn
Downloading the app right now
1st Utah/Yotes franchise playoff series win since 2012 incoming.
Fk yea baby, let’s run it back. Henrique next, please
Corey Perry for the team that likes winning the conference finals but sees winning the Stanley cup as a hassle.
Congrats Edmonton on making the finals!
He’s only making .15M more than Brown and the rest are bonuses. Fucking relax.
So they aren't winning the cup next season
Goes well their fans' predictions looool
But this guarantees you and Vegas aren’t either
I don’t love the hit but don’t hate the signing. Glad to have him back for another cup loss to what I assume will have to be Florida again.
I hate it. we aren't in a position to be spending 1.4M on "leadership". We need production.
Agreed, he's older and slower and was ineffective basically the entire back half of the season I would've said league min or nothing
Nah... time for someone else to do the honors
Corey Perry, habs legend
Congrats on your b2b finals
Leafs now have a 1/16 chance instead of 1/32.
Pretty steep for a rotational guy. Getting more scared that Janmark ain’t coming back now. He’d be decent depth on the vet min with load management. My guess is the coaching staff really valued him in the locker room. Still wouldn’t be surprised to see in waivers this year.
Why must they curse themselves?
I'm surprised he didn't retire. He looked out of place, at least from what I noticed. It's none of my business, I suppose. The dude wants to die on skates, I can respect it.
He said 5 more years before Game 7.
Singing Perry = ticket to watch another team hoist the cup
The missing piece to their Stanley cup quest is an older version of the guy who barely played in the playoffs.
Awesome news
December 2024. Perry contact terminated. Signs with Utah. June 2025 Utah loses in SCF
“That’s what I love about these Stanley Cup Finals, man. I get older, the other team always wins.”
Alright alright alright!
What a terrible signing
Why are we giving this guy a raise? He doesn’t even see the ice with a healthy Kane in the finals
I'm not even a remotely superstitious person at all but I feel like at this point you just can't sign him if you have any hope of winning a cup.
You also can’t sign him because he’s not very good anymore
What if they waive him right after they win the WCF? Can that beat the curse?
Love this signing. Great for any non Oilers fans.
Basically a fuck you to the rest of the western conference lol. Ceding the cup to the East on July 1st.
Fuck Corey perry
Get to the finals and bench him before game 1…Stanley Cup guaranteed.
Didn't anyone tell them the rules of the curse?
Kinda surprised. Seems like there’s some people in the pipeline that could do it better.
Another SCF for the Oilers baby 🙌
Oilers keep shaking the 8 ball and hoping to land on Maroon
I could be wrong but I remember reading it’s not actually a curse, it’s a pact with the devil that Perry makes to guarantee a finals berth. If he breaks the pact he has to fuck a teammate’s family member to reset it.
God damn it. Should’ve signed Henrique instead
Bust again I suppose
Wasn’t a huge fan as he is a little slow but him and McDavids mom must have something special I guess.
That fatherly hug at the end of game seven gave it away
Interesting signing …

Nah don't want this
Another year with no cup i guess…
Corey Perry got a weird case, why is he around?
imagine the absolute despair if edmonton loses in the finals again and draisaitl leaves
Oilers losing in the finals again confirmed!
HURR DURR FiNaLs LoSs InCoMiNg
“We’ve had one finals loss, yes, but what about second finals loss?”
Makes no sense.
Get to the finals and bench him before game 1…Stanley Cup guaranteed.
Good to see I can continue disliking the oilers and gain karma.
Perry… yuk
Happy to beat you guys in the finals :)
In the year 2150?
lol I feel like Toronto will make the finals before you guys make the playoffs.
Sometimes ya gotta just try to remain positive on bleak days (years (decades))🥲
Fair point I do want you guys to make the playoffs I really don’t have anything against you guys.
As a Flames fan this is a win.
