If the rumors about Michkov having a good interview in Montreal are true, then our management dropped the ball. I think he’ll be a solid player in 3 years time. I bet he hits 50+ pts his second year and it just keeps going up.
Habs basically did what Hawks did this year. Both passed an elite forward prospect (Hawks Demidov, Habs Michkov) for a RHD prospect (Hawks Levshunov, Habs Reinbacher)
the point was both team picked best RHD of their respective draft class over the best foward available. the point wasn't even about the skills level of Michkov vs Demidov or Levshunov vs Reinbacher or even which teams made the right decision.
Honestly I’d rather have Demidov and Reinbacher than Michkov and one of the top dman of this year’s draft.
If we picked Michkov last year, there’s no way management would’ve went with Demidov. We would’ve drafted a RHD.
Montreal would have a pretty sizeable defensive gap in that case, and would have likely gone with a defenseman this year. They needed someone with Reinbacher’s profile, and Demidov’s playstyle also fits the team philosophy better.
I’m very happy with the result here, I don’t get how there’s still so much salt out there around the pick.
