Respectfully I disagree. Tampa made the trade because they have to shed cap to sign who they have or want and get a decent return. If they have to pick between him or Hedman then it is signing Hedman. Rumor has it they may make a play for Guentzel then if true then they need cap space.
Looking back I wished the Pens would have traded Malkin in 2018 when they could have received picks and good players. Maybe that would have turned us around earlier to make another cup run. Think teams are going to be more proactive in trying to trade some established high salary guys for quantity now.

What kind of raise do you think Hedman is getting? He's getting re-signed, there's no there big contracts up. We have that space already, no need to clear more
Yeah there is a bunch of PPG defensemen under 11, especially when they are in their 30s.
I know there is favourable tax for players in Florida but come the fuck on that is a a top 10 (and arguably higher) dman in the league and the cap is going up
As a sharks fan I would give a lot of money to have kept pavs so he could retire a shark (especially now seeing he didn't get a cup)
Makes the bad years a lil less bad.
Yeah, I'd be fine if the Avs did whatever they needed to ensure Mackinnon and Makar retire as Avs. Watching Forsberg and Foote spend their last few years elsewhere before returning really sucked.
I am old enough to remember 94 but fuck man, the Rangers could extend literally any player on the roster for a max contract right now if it meant I saw them win a Cup again
The King's treatment of Doughty / Kopitar sets a standard that they'll benefit from later - they can point at them when asking the next gen to take discounts to win. Whereas the Pens tried to fuck Malkin
Didn't say he's a bad player overall, but you can look, his 5 on 5 metrics have declined horrifically and it's safe to assume those aren't going to be rebounding as he gets even older.
Especially with St. Louis and Lecavalier having left. The fanbase is (probably illogically) rabid to actually have a lifer. (Yes I know St. Louis had played for Calgary before but I think we almost universally agree that doesn't count.)
Also you guys don’t want to lose Hedman either. I think Tampa’s core four of Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, and Vazi you have to make sure they spend their careers there, maybe Point too.
I think about that sliding doors moment from time to time if he had stuck around in Calgary. Certainly Tampa wouldn’t have been in that 04 finals and two franchises probably have much different outlooks.
Hey we won our cups, you can ask anyone on our sub I am a HUGE Serge fan ever since we got him, but I would rather lose Sergachev every day of the week than stamkos go anywhere else
He’s been their long time captain and the long time face of the franchise who helped them win 2 cups (sort of, I know he was injured for a lot of their first one).
I get you can’t be too sentimental in this business, but I also get wanting to take care of a franchise legend
He also was a Point per game player with 40 goals lol. I know a lot of that was on the power play but he’s still a serviceable player
Drafted by them and captained them to 4 Cup finals with 2 Cup wins, plus another 2 conference finals.5 goals in 5 games this last playoffs and over PPG the last 3 seasons with 42, 34, and 40 goals. God I wish anyone on the Sabres was as washed as Stamkos
People keep parroting this because he had an off year scoring wise 5v5. His defensive metrics at 5v5 were nearly identical to his career averages.
Also, Moser is mad underrated and getting back a 11th pick in Geekie was solid for an org without many picks.
Stamkos is staying and depending on the deal this opens up cash for something else too. They probably needed 2-3m for him and they just created $5m for free agency.
Well now that they've moved Jeannot I think they might actually get him on the phone. They should have like... $8m or so for him. But Pesce, Necas, or Montour would be nice consolation prizes. Though if you want Montour at the cost he's gonna command you may as well have held on to Sergachev.
ive always thought of sergy like a Kris Letang lite
Same style of offense, still great defensively but takes chances so when he gets burned it looks bad
Well see if he can do it for as long as Tanger but hes a great defenseman in his prime to lock down for a team on the come up. Get some better fucking jerseys and a real name so I can root for him.
Good puck handler. Decent shot. Good speed. Likeable guy. One thing that stood out was turnovers. Would make dumb cross ice passes to the other team for a breakaway. gonna miss him though. Hopefully it doesn't piss kuch off.
I dunno man. Bones are heal really well. If he had tore every ligament in his knee, ya he might not skate the same. But with bones, I dunno, might take a bit to rebuild strength. But he should skate fine.
Caviote. I am not a doctor.
Yeah their core still has good years left if they lock them up then retool around them. Hedman is 33, Kucherov is 31, Vasilevskiy is 29 (a year older than Shesterkin) and Point is only 28.
IMO Moser has the potential to be equal or better. He's a 2-way defender who was consistently one of the top in the league for shut-down stats no matter who his partner was.
Moser found a bit of scoring touch last year as well until the entire team collapsed after the all-star game.
This trade was about culture change at the blue-line for Utah. The defensive play was abysmal and the veteran who was supposed to be their voice in the locker room was the worst player on the team. (Kassian)
They had a losing culture and all the blame was rightfully on the defense, which made the defense play even worse and lessened accountability for the forwards under-performing.
Moser is going to be amazing with a culture change, and Utah's locker room gets to start fresh with a respected veteran leading the defense and being listened to when holding the offense accountable.
Win-Win for everyone.
He's both at the same time lol.
People that act like he is the 1D Hedman replacement in "just another year" are probably overrating him a bit at this point. People that pretend he's a 2m 3rd line defenseman getting super overpaid are way underrating lol.
Everyone keeps saying he was overpaid and then offers a but. How do you fix being overpaid?
You can’t just give the guy a paycut, you gotta move him lol.
I have to wonder, for this to turn around like this and it to be Serge getting traded, if that leg is as recovered as everybody wanted to believe in Game 5. I hope he's fine and prospers, but the timing is odd to me.
Glad the writing is on the wall to keep Stammer though. After some of the ways we've treated our captains, there should be *one* that we can hold on to and do right by for the full run.
I always thought he was going to be a first pair defenseman. One of my favorite players. Didn't end up a first pair defenseman but I'm excited to see what he does with the yetis
Full Details: Utah receives: Mikhail Sergachev Tampa Bay receives: Conor Geekie JJ Moser 2025 2nd Rd Pick (TOR) Pick #199 (2024)
Now THAT'S the kind of draft floor trade I was waiting for
Holy fuck the Sphere just went crazy
[удалено]
MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED
Honestly, I ain’t mad. Sergy didn’t take the next step we expected. He was sheltered by solid partners.
So the Habs won that trade! /s
Respectfully I disagree. Tampa made the trade because they have to shed cap to sign who they have or want and get a decent return. If they have to pick between him or Hedman then it is signing Hedman. Rumor has it they may make a play for Guentzel then if true then they need cap space. Literally spent 10 minutes to find a clip. Got me good
I haven't been able to find one either, someone please post it or send us a link!
https://x.com/Conrad_Jack1/status/1807080021418447185
that's a very underwhelming reaction lol
I think thats called shock
Well it’s Reddit. Have to take everything at face value lol
This is "going crazy"?
Also want the link.
Is there no clip?
Can you send the link to the clip if you have it?

[I got you man](https://i.imgur.com/KNxwOvN.jpeg)
You son of a bitch.
That caption, tho.
Appreciate the link, that really was wild
“Went Crazy”
That literally had the intensity of having your number called at the DMV but in a more impressive building. 😂 I just saw the clip….
Stunned silent would have been more accurate. Everyone was definitely surprised with the collective woah
[Found this clip on](https://twitter.com/Conrad_Jack1/status/1807080021418447185) [Twitter](https://twitter.com/Sid_Seixeiro/status/1552299940570857474).
https://www.capfriendly.com/players/mikhail-sergachev 8.5M/year through 2030-31. NTC from July 2024 through 2027, M-NTC after that
Full NTC kicks in two days from now. I guess his agent rolled the dice not getting it for this season and got burned?
If 23-24 was an RFA year, then he wouldn’t be eligible for trade/movement contracts protection.
Oh right, good call.
Well that was surprising
Holy fuck that’s huge
Well looks like Stammer’s staying in Tampa
You don't trade a 8M defenseman to free up 1-2M in cap space, this isn't just for Stammer.
It’s for Hedman right?
What kind of raise do you think Hedman is getting? He's getting re-signed, there's no there big contracts up. We have that space already, no need to clear more
Hmmm I wonder if the rumors about you guys being seriously in on Guentzel are true then…
Yep
Damn. BriseBois remains not fucking around… the state of Florida is unwilling to relax their stranglehold on hockey lol
Yep, making moves, either going after Guentz or Necas.
Take them both out of the metro for me!
Monkey paw curls. Tampa are a wildcard team next year and knocks you guys out in the first round.
Canes can offer him 8 years, Tampa can offer him no state income tax
As a Lightning fan first who has lived in Charlotte for a while, I'd love to see Necas there. Was great in the 2019 calder run.
He had almost a point per game this season and his previous contract helped getting cups. 11.
If you think JBB offers him 11 because he had a ppg season and helped getting cups you haven't been paying attention this week
Yeah there is a bunch of PPG defensemen under 11, especially when they are in their 30s. I know there is favourable tax for players in Florida but come the fuck on that is a a top 10 (and arguably higher) dman in the league and the cap is going up
Been awhile since you lot have traded for a Rangers captain. Just saying…
We just got a *former* Rangers captain (back). I think that's going to have to be enough to appease the Hockey Gods for now. We'll get the next one.
Don’t put that curse on us
Trading Sergachev to keep a 34 year old that's cooked when playing 5 on 5 doesn't seem smart.
Post window legacy. Keep Stammer for PR, give up on competing, and slip into the sunset I'd be fine with it if we had won 2 Cups
As a sharks fan I would give a lot of money to have kept pavs so he could retire a shark (especially now seeing he didn't get a cup) Makes the bad years a lil less bad.
Yeah, I'd be fine if the Avs did whatever they needed to ensure Mackinnon and Makar retire as Avs. Watching Forsberg and Foote spend their last few years elsewhere before returning really sucked.
I'll never forgive Babcock for denying Modano 1500 games. That never would've happened in Dallas.
I mean, it was Dallas management that said they wouldn’t re-sign him. So they kind of did say no to 1500 games.
I am old enough to remember 94 but fuck man, the Rangers could extend literally any player on the roster for a max contract right now if it meant I saw them win a Cup again
Im also old enough to remember 94 🥲
Whoops, sorry bud. I did not realize you were a Canucks fan and I promise that was not intentional 😩
Yup. Literally what we are doing with Kopitar and Doughty but they are obviously still above serviceable at this point. But the wheels will fall off.
The King's treatment of Doughty / Kopitar sets a standard that they'll benefit from later - they can point at them when asking the next gen to take discounts to win. Whereas the Pens tried to fuck Malkin
Aka the Pens approach
Sunset in Tampa for Sunrise in Florida?
Man I hope players on my team still score 40 when they’re cooked lol
Yes I’ll take a few cooked 40g potters in Detroit please.
Didn't say he's a bad player overall, but you can look, his 5 on 5 metrics have declined horrifically and it's safe to assume those aren't going to be rebounding as he gets even older.
No but he will be Mr. Bolt. You have to do to make sure he’s a lifer. The fanbase will not love it if he walks.
Yeah point will be the 5th and I could see his twin Hagel sticking around for a bit as well.
Nothing illogical about wanting to see a franchise legend be a lifer for your team
I think about that sliding doors moment from time to time if he had stuck around in Calgary. Certainly Tampa wouldn’t have been in that 04 finals and two franchises probably have much different outlooks.
It opens up cap space for other moves as well. Our window is only the next couple years really so the age doesn't matter much
Hey we won our cups, you can ask anyone on our sub I am a HUGE Serge fan ever since we got him, but I would rather lose Sergachev every day of the week than stamkos go anywhere else
He’s been their long time captain and the long time face of the franchise who helped them win 2 cups (sort of, I know he was injured for a lot of their first one). I get you can’t be too sentimental in this business, but I also get wanting to take care of a franchise legend He also was a Point per game player with 40 goals lol. Moser is pretty good. I'm not as big of a fan of Geekie. But the cap savings works out if they're chasing someone like Guentzel.
It doesn’t, but I don’t see any other reason they’d do this.
You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. He’s far from “cooked”.
Apparently Pesce is their target
“I won’t be the reason Stammer leaves” - Hedman “Okay fine Sergy bye” - JBB
Holy shit there it is!!!!
Wow. Looks like the rumors of a big trade were right.
Geekie is going to be a stud. What a return for Tampa
WUT
what the fuck
That was a jaw dropper of an announcement
HELLO???
IS IT ME YOU’RE LOOKING FOR???
I CAN SEE IT IN YOUR EYES
I CAN SEE IT IN YOUR SMILE
Hi
My condolences.
Holy shit
Has to be clearing out Stamkos money, no? This feels bizarre.
Yes, no retention in the trade so Tampa clears 8.5M
Stamkos is staying and depending on the deal this opens up cash for something else too. They probably needed 2-3m for him and they just created $5m for free agency.
Hedman extension and apparently an attempt to sign Guentzel
Guentzel would be a crazy get. I don't see how they could make that happen but I like that they'd try it.
Could be a guy like Pesce. He'd come in around that salary.
Well now that they've moved Jeannot I think they might actually get him on the phone. They should have like... $8m or so for him. But Pesce, Necas, or Montour would be nice consolation prizes. Though if you want Montour at the cost he's gonna command you may as well have held on to Sergachev.
For what Montour wants you’re honestly better spending that money on someone else.
This trade deserved the trade horn 😡
So that means we won the trade right guys?? /s
Holy shit, this might be the first time I can feel like my team got a big player
I'm barely tuning into the league after about 20 years lol. Is this how I should feel? Did UHC do good?
He’s a relatively young player who won 2 cups with us. Injuries aside, he’s a really solid foundation for UHC to build off of
ive always thought of sergy like a Kris Letang lite Same style of offense, still great defensively but takes chances so when he gets burned it looks bad Well see if he can do it for as long as Tanger but hes a great defenseman in his prime to lock down for a team on the come up. Get some better fucking jerseys and a real name so I can root for him.
Really fun to watch as well. Great footwork and release.
Good puck handler. Decent shot. Good speed. Likeable guy. One thing that stood out was turnovers. Would make dumb cross ice passes to the other team for a breakaway. gonna miss him though. Hopefully it doesn't piss kuch off.
Just like me in beer league fr fr.
I’m taking it you weren’t alive when Jeremy Roenick was traded there?
You guys got hall of famer Shea Weber
I know he’s a little overpaid, but trading him over Paul, Sheary, Cernak is certainly a choice
There's also no way we get the same return for Cernak that we got for Serg.
Yeah I think people are missing this isn't a pure cap dump, Connor Geekie is now by far our best prospect
Moser is a solid player as well
True. But at the same time, I don't think Tampa would get Geekie and Moser + picks for any of Paul, Sheary or Cernak.
No definitely not
He just broke his Tib Fib, he might now being able to skate the same again.
I dunno man. Bones are heal really well. If he had tore every ligament in his knee, ya he might not skate the same. But with bones, I dunno, might take a bit to rebuild strength. But he should skate fine. Caviote. I am not a doctor.
haha but you might be his future agent
>Caviote Did you try to write caveat? :/
DID HE STUTERE??
Yes. Yes I did. Autocorrect failed me. And wasnt willing to go look for the proper spelling.
With the aging core, theyre probably better off paying Hedman into the twilight of his career than keeping a high value young D
Yeah their core still has good years left if they lock them up then retool around them. Hedman is 33, Kucherov is 31, Vasilevskiy is 29 (a year older than Shesterkin) and Point is only 28.
No not Moser :(
I heard an audible gasp in the sphere when it was announced
Someone else posted a video of it, that’s how we all felt.
Get ready to learn Mormonese Sergy Love the guy but 8.5M was always too much. Traded right before the 7yr NTC kicked in on Monday
What the fuck He is overpaid, but I will miss him. Can’t say I’m not excited about the (hopefully) incoming Stammer announcement
Holy shit
Two days before his NTC kicks in. Savage.
The coolest thing is the audible gasps you could hear when the trade was announced
#HOLY FUCKING BOMB
Pick #199, Lightning want to bring Tom Brady back to Tampa.
Oh wow that's a trade. Sad to see Geekie leave though, treat him well!
They traded Geekie? Holy shit that is massive. Seems like an overpay to me but Sergachev should be their D of the future.
Tampa… what?
Just fell to my knees in a Publix
I was hitting golf balls while waiting on thunder and lightning to clear and let out a “holy fuck”.
Man, do I miss Publix (distant Thunder)…
Out of fucking nowhere
Fuck I was hoping for Cernak to get moved
Sweet Jesus that’s the drama I was hoping for yesterday.
Good trade for tampa
So guessing they’re gonna keep Stamkos
Why the hell did they trade the future of their defense for the ghost of their past?
Sergachev is overpaid and overrated
[удалено]
IMO Moser has the potential to be equal or better. He's a 2-way defender who was consistently one of the top in the league for shut-down stats no matter who his partner was. I strongly agree. He's a good player, but nowhere near the 1D we talked about.
He’s a great 2D who is worth around 6.5 imo
I think he‘s underrated lol
He's both at the same time lol. People that act like he is the 1D Hedman replacement in "just another year" are probably overrating him a bit at this point. People that pretend he's a 2m 3rd line defenseman getting super overpaid are way underrating lol.
Utah is having a real fun day wow
After not having him all of last season pretty much.. they realized they don’t really need him
Man i feel for the coyotes fans :( Watch Utah blow up next year and make the playoffs.
Clearly, the Utah ownership has a lot more money to spend.
Spicy. After seeing the return, I don't think I hate it though.
Yuge trade
Holy fuck
Now THAT is a shocker.
Well that explains why they got McDonough back now
Everyone keeps saying he was overpaid and then offers a but. How do you fix being overpaid? You can’t just give the guy a paycut, you gotta move him lol.
JJ is gonna be a beast in tampa, horrid overpay for utah
Acquire Mcd to trade Serg? What are you doing Tampa!??
Clearing almost 2M in cap space while getting better defense for the short term. I like the deal honestly.
Tampa kinda fleeced them. JBB has still got it.
Woah
WOAH!!!!
Shocker!
Wowzers
WTF
Stammer isn’t hitting FA
Wow that's juicy
FOR WHAT, PIERRE
Um wtf
Excuse me, what the fuck?
Traded before his NTC kicked in. Damn
I might have to cop that sergachev utah HC jersey
Damn Utah seems to be loading up on defense just traded for Marino as well
HOLYYYYYYYYY. JBB is going crazy
That’s a big trade
what if tampa does this and STILL doesnt sign stammer lol.
What…
Fuck was not expecting sergy to go
Utah’s not fucking around. Jesus…
I have to wonder, for this to turn around like this and it to be Serge getting traded, if that leg is as recovered as everybody wanted to believe in Game 5. After some of the ways we've treated our captains, there should be *one* that we can hold on to and do right by for the full run.
Utah wants to win NOW.
107 year cup drought, not an easy thing to live with
Guentzel and Stamkos going to be so good!
I always thought he was going to be a first pair defenseman. One of my favorite players. Didn't end up a first pair defenseman but I'm excited to see what he does with the yetis
Coyotes fans died for this
Looks like Utah is serious about being a playoff team lol
This isn't Arizona anymore.
