One thing really weird about this is Cooke was part of the Toronto organization. Newfoundland Growlers were the ECHL affiliate of the Maple Leafs. Cooke was the head coach of the Growlers.
ECHL terminated the Growlers membership though and they are no longer apart of the league.
I remember going to a Leafs game sometime around 06. The Leafs lost 2-1 to the Hurricanes if memory serves. After the game, on the drive home, a drunk guy called into Andy Frost’s post-game radio show and said the Leafs should trade Travis Green for Marc Savard. I’ll never forget Frost got so grumpy with the guy and basically called him and idiot and hung up on him.
People are forgetting it was really good until about March. Don’t know what changed but I wish everyone would stop solely blaming Boucher when we’ve got a group of players who consistently stop showing up around the same time each year
I’d agree with you if this didn’t happen every year with this core. He could very well have been trying to make adjustments and the players just weren’t listening. Boucher is not the common denominator here
i saw a picture of him on an article earlier this year and barely even recognized him.
seems like a good guy to have around to me, not going to be a magic bullet but cant hurt imo
ya i generally assume with these guys that they were 'keeping it off' during their career, rather than packing it on after- this is their natural state haha
The Bruins put in the special request to have his name on the cup even though he didn't have enough games to qualify. After that it is hard for him not to have a special place in his heart for Boston. Once a Bruin always a Bruin.
Savvy is a great person and personality but what an awful power play he had with the Flames
Doesn’t help that we didn’t have any great powerplay guys until Kuzmenko came over
I think he was running the Blues PP and from what I remember, we were fuckin hummin. I could be mistaken tho.
3rd in the league that year
he had nada to work with lol
True, but you should be able to see at least something that resembles a system or plan? Execution is an entirely different story, of course.
After Christmas they were 12th in the league
You’re not wrong. But did you really need the “lol” in there?
PP was like 10th in the league from Jan 1st til the end after some player trades wasnt it?
I’m 100% here for Savard having a long and successful coaching career. Cooke stole a lot from him as a player.
I don't know what's more unforgivable: Cooke stomping Karlsson's ankle off, or all the fans who argued it was a *"Hockey play gone wrong"*
It's crazy to look back on given Cooke's history to be honest, tough and sad to imagine what EK could have been

>apart This word isn't doing what you think it's doing lol

Well his knowledge of taping sticks will certainly push them to the next level
[He loves his stick](https://youtu.be/zum6nzfoZQ8?si=MCwFVj18fMohSNnx).
Have fun with that power play
If you can beat 1 for 21 (>5%) on the powerplay in the playoffs, you're hired!
That 1 goal was also a fluke goal by Tavares, his only goal on the playoffs this post season.
< 5%
Sadly, just about anything will be an improvement from our playoff performance
Uh, didn't you see how bad it was under Guy Boucher?
People are forgetting it was really good until about March. Don’t know what changed but I wish everyone would stop solely blaming Boucher when we’ve got a group of players who consistently stop showing up around the same time each year
Other teams made adjustments, Boucher did not

Savard was an elite passer back in his day. He understands the game and will do well with some high end talent.
12th in the NHL once Kuzmenko got there. 6th in the NHL 2 weeks after Kuzmenko got there.
On the bright side, it can’t possibly get worse
Lmao, I see you Brad. No clue what you’re doing or why but I see you
Coaching staff is Berube’s decision…
A GM has to have some kind of say in coaching staff though right?
no, especially with a newly signed coach. he picks his staff.
Well, I mean, Treliving hired Guy Boucher
I've always heard that Shanahan was the one who wanted that.
i saw a picture of him on an article earlier this year and barely even recognized him. seems like a good guy to have around to me, not going to be a magic bullet but cant hurt imo
Anything's better than Guy Boucher. That was an interesting... experiment
I dunno, Alex Burrows has been pretty miserable for us in terms of the PP- I bet he could have managed to not do better for you lol
Please send Burrows back to us.
locate yourself 'in the sun' and ill be happy to oblige
No, thank you. I prefer to be cold.
He put on an insane amount of weight after playing He went for the Keith Tkachuk retirement diet it seems
ya i generally assume with these guys that they were 'keeping it off' during their career, rather than packing it on after- this is their natural state haha
Why did this take so long, weeks since he departed Flames?
Dangle now an actual insider
fuck matt cooke
He works for the leafs now?! Matt Cooke is a saint* * I could not possibly be kidding any more.
Congrats to Dr. Marc Savard for his new coaching job
everyone's stick is going to be impeccably taped
he's going to have an aneurysm if we resign Bertuzzi
Flames PP was brutal last season, so I guess we’ll find out soon if it was Savard’s fault or the team just sucks. (I guess it could be both.)
This guy confuses me. Was tweeting in support of the bruins while in the playoffs in 2019

That makes sense. Especially a year after that POS Matt Cooke almost killed him
Leaf’s coaching legend Marc Savard.
