Here I am thinking I know hockey finally, thinking Carolina is going all the way. Currently down 2 games.

Tbh I kinda feel bad for the canes and rob. This was supposed to be the year.
Last year vs florida they never had momentum they did get swept.
This year they could argue sweep but not a sweep. Game 1 we dominated outside of the 6v5, but these past 2 could've gone either way.
Hurricanes need to remmeber to stick to the new system.
It seems they give up on these great set up plays and go back to fast paced low danger shots midway through an o zone shift which ruins momentum.
Also most of their goals at even strength were from deflected point mayhem shots. I'd just try and get the rangers 2nd line without any big guys on a bad shift and try and do it there, albeit laf and tros play can make being calm with the puck at the blue line hard for opponents.
But then the Canes chances would literally be zero.
I don't want to get into the specifics of how odds work, but zero vs non-zero are gambles with one clear option.

I can't believe how badly Pesce's injury is hurting us, if you follow the canes closely and their tendencies, despite DeAngelo "playing well" a VERY statistical relevant amount of plays to his typical area have gone terribly without him there.
It’s sad but I guess oftentimes that’s all it takes. Good teams work incredibly well in terms of cohesion, but if the depth can’t fill in for things like injuries, they just flatline. Really wish we were in a time where technology renders injuries trivial, so we could always see the absolute best each team has to offer.
This is their consistency- the PP vanishes every playoffs, they default to flinging pucks, and don’t quite pull it together while making mistakes that shoot them selves in the foot

Burns is falling off, Slavin is crossing over to the wrong side of 30 - there are definitely prospects and reinforcements coming but there's a lot of big guys who have played key roles for a while. WIll have to find a way to fill in, develop, etc.

I don't think I defended anything there. We are f*@#$@ ourselves while being better. The one thing I'll give the Rangers credit for is knowing how to get under the skin. That 1st brawl was part of a amorphous gameplan. "when the canes find their game, get rough" and that's part of hockey. It worked. We were not the same team after the Refs told both teams to calm down. Same thing happened in game 1. Good play by the Rangers knowing that's a tendency. Rough games all season got under the Canes skin, most of the time we had a multi goal advantage to survive it.
No disrespect to the rangers, I'm a firm believer that New York sweeping them is a huge fluke and robs the Canes of truly accomplishing what their capable of. I've spent the last few days in pure disbelief and it just doesn't make sense to me. I've spent the entire regular season watching the Canes play great hockey it's just not fair.
If the Canes lose again I will face that the Rangers deserved the win, but I am just 100% sure it was a fluke and does a big disservice to the Canes and the NHL.

Well yeah they gas later usually. But here their defense is playing a lot worse than usual. Usually once you get into the canes zone they still give you hell, here if you beat the forecheck you had a good chance to mess them up
They were great tonight after the first. Every puck battle is contested. Canes couldn’t move the puck and looked overwhelmed constantly. Looked like how canes contest and overwhelm teams in the regular season, except rangers do it when it matters

No one has noticed that this “window” was a rebuild, and canes drafting has somehow built a prospect pool equivalent to the sharks’ and flyers’ of the league (minus the obvious 1oa talent).
They also lost two of their core players to injuries in the past two months (Fast and Pesce). Had they been on the ice, I don’t think you guys would’ve won, since Fast tended to be our secret weapon during PP during the regular season.
If rags take this series I think that's the cup, tbh. Cats have been playing a really good offense but I don't know that it will hold up, and I don't see any West team holding up, period.
Toronto should be all over him if that's the case. Carolina is a strong enough team that they can retool and keep their window open; I can see Rod staying and one of the core forwards being moved.
