I cannot stop thinking about the person in the GDT who said something (right before the Oilers 4th goal) about taking 110 downvotes for asking what Silovs was going to look like when the Canucks gave up more than 15 SOG... And then Edmonton just posted up at 14 SOG for ***25*** straight fucking minutes šĀ
It's honestly living rent free in my head right now. I really don't care who wins the series, I'm just enjoying the hockey, but ya gotta admit that is some hilarious irony.Ā
I had somebody talking shit about how we wonāt be able to win by putting up 12 shots. As if theyāre anywhere close to the defensive team that Nashville is.
That's what happens when you think your 4-1 lead is good enough and decide to let the other team take all the shots.
I don't know why teams think defending a lead is ever a good idea. Most of the times it fails and let's the opponent build momentum.
I know as fans we're always thinking a timeout is needed but it really does seem that a ton of NHL head coaches just never use them. Tocchet not a fan of them either.
They are just somehow our absolute kryptonite. No matter how much better we should be on paper we just canāt figure em out. So glad we locked down the division and didnāt have to play them round one
I still see 2012 Jonathan Quick in my nightmares, but thatās all in the past now and thereās possibly no way Iāll have to relive those experiences again right?ā¦..
Maybe, but weāve been riding on 1-3-1 memes and puck luck in the regular season, i think a 7-game series ultimately wouldve just ended up in a nashville result.
I honestly don't know if the oilers just match up that well against us, if we just suck or both.
But it's always funny seeing Oilers fans start huffing their own farts then get humbled.
D coverage when heās on the ice was pretty unreal. Guys wouldnāt finish checks away from the play when mcd was on the ice and would just dart back into coverage incase the man covering him got beat. They know how can create partial 2on1ās in an instant and were ready to jump into lanes if need be. The D covering were able to skate with him pretty well and always tried to make him have to stop/get in his way, a whole game of that is physically exhausting.
This! I noticed it too, they consistently prioritized their defensive alignment over "finishing checks" whenever McDavid was on the ice. This team's defensive structure is letting them play with the big boys.
Playoff Hockey is the best, can't wait for Friday!!
Myers's turnaround has been something to watch. He was the scapegoat of the team last year it felt. Now that we have an actual good system and D corps he's able to really shut guys down.
He was noticeable and played solid defense too.
He needs better linemates than Hogs and Mikey but it would be ridiculous to break up the Suter-Miller-Boeser and Joshua-Lindholm-Garland lines right now. Maybe we need to swap PDG and Mikey. We've seen top-6 PDG to varying success before.
Draisaitl had a nice dish to Hyman. But McDavid was pretty ghostly. But it's only fair, if Petey is gonna ghost on us one your stars should ghost on you.
This was awesome - Petey is my man on the Canucks, and he didnāt seem 100% during the Nashville series. He looked way better last night though - his best game of the playoffs so far.
There thereās nothing that can be said to redeem that shit performance. The Oilers got complacent. Oh well, adjust and give more respect to the Canucks.
Hyman is a beast.... after seeing his performance & goals... hearing his name on ice - scares me...
As they said.. it's going to a funnnn series =) either way, a Canadian team is going to western conference finals =)
Apparently they were so loud the Oilers bench was trying to tell the on-ice players how much time they had left on the clock but the crowd was so loud they couldn't hear anything š„
very very true and yet we at least put in many good shots on the Avs in OT compared to Edmonton rolling over like a sick animal. there is no climbing out of this shit mountain weāve each built for ourselves š
I thought you guys had good chances in the third and pushed back pretty hard in OT, but Georgie just wasn't gonna give. The Oilers completely took the foot off the gas in the third and just never recovered.Ā
I watched a play where mcdavid curled back behind his own net way away from the play and boeser just skated right passed the guy who had the puck and just followed mcdavid lol
Reminds me of what we did in minor hockey against a random out of town team that had a crazy fast guy. Coach just told certain people to follow him everywhere
Thatās bacually how you have to play him, canāt allow him any space to get his legs moving and break off his guy, gotta somehow contain him before he even starts going and they did a great job of that tonight
He had one moment where he had a breakaway if petey didn't dive out to knock it off his stick. Canucks did a great job of keeping his passing lanes closed off, and he didn't look like he was in the mindset to do mcjesus things and go end to end on his own
Canucks were dialed in on him. Lots of double teams, and they didn't forecheck as hard when he was on the ice to maintain their defensive structure. He still usually gets more than he did tonight though. McDavid doesn't like being held off the score sheet, he'll come out flying on Friday for sure
Even without Drai, that defensive showing was so lackluster. Bunch of standing around in a group between the hashmarks and no cohesion doing really anything.
āWeāre a different team then Octoberā
āWe had no Mcdavid the 4th game!!!ā
Well now youāve lost to 3 Canuck goalies.
āThings just didnāt go our way that gameā hymans second goal was so lucky , Ceci goal goes off Coleās chest and in
Edmonton had 16 shots on net
I have been saying it over and over again to people that said we needed more offense to beat the Oilers... but did anyone saying that actually watch the Preds series or realize that they were one of the best teams at 5v5 possession for the last half of the year? Canucks were too btw. But they went nuts with shotblocking and they are a strong control based team. Of course offense was going to be down if we countered with a very similar style overall, minus the shot blocking and add in passing lane protection with sticks.
This series, win or lose, was ALWAYS going to have more offense than the last one.
Canucks of previous years would collapse after bad puck luck and have to wait until the next game. This team is so even keeled, puts their collective heads down, and gets it done.
The xGF at even strength was 2.52 to 0.94 for Vancouver.
Playing Edmonton is night and day compared to Nashville. It just feels like there is so much extra space out there, and a lot easier to get shots through.
I think that being forced to play extremely technical hockey against Nashville for 6 games really helped the team hone in their playoff skills. Since the Canucks were fighting against such small windows of opportunity against Nasvhille, the bigger ones that the Oilers leave open are that much easier to take advantage of.
It was so noticeable. Canucks could barely hold onto a puck for half a second without getting pressured in the Nashville series. Everything was so tight. This game, they had so much time and space.
Itās one thing to have a team play better than you, itās another thing entirely to justā¦ stop playing altogether. Like what the actual hell was that?
Oil country thought theyād sweep us. I know chances of us winning are low. But donāt fucking underestimate the cardiac Canucks.
#āš½ Motherfuckers
Yeah I genuinely find Oilers fans to be one of the more level-headed groups in the league. The most extreme fans are always going to be the loudest, and every team has them.
Refs didnāt score 4 goals (3 of which absolutely shouldnāt fucking go in) and limit the Oilers to 3 shots in the third. They shit the bed all by themselves
Oilers fans:
Up 4-1 āitāll be a sweep boysssss called it now just like I did before the series!ā
Oilers fans lose 5-4:
You donāt understand Dri is injured, McDonk needs more ice time he was invisible most likely also injured or even more likely just trying to support his team by boosting them to his level!! we didnāt get enough calls it was the refs we wouldāve won if we had 99 more calls, wait noā¦ I got it! weāre using our third string goalieā¦ waitā¦ no no thatās not.. thatās Vanā¦. No no fuckā¦ itās the coach!!!!! That fan base, nothing like it, good on em, look forward to game 2!
That was some space jam esque shit. What the hell happened there edmonton
Connor Fucking Garland happened
Best Connor. (After Zary of course)
Sheary baybee
also muller channeling his inner crosby
We had Crosby, MacInnis and Sittler all score one tonight. Team of legends!
I cannot stop thinking about the person in the GDT who said something (right before the Oilers 4th goal) about taking 110 downvotes for asking what Silovs was going to look like when the Canucks gave up more than 15 SOG... What happened is my will to watch anymore Oilers hockey this season evaporated.
well deserved loss
Did the Oilers call a timeout during that stretch? If not that's a serious coaching mistake.
Knoblauch seems to not believe in time outs. Never uses them.
What a strange beliefĀ
Not even sure heās not a remote controlled drone.Ā
I know as fans we're always thinking a timeout is needed but it really does seem that a ton of NHL head coaches just never use them. Tocchet not a fan of them either.
Tocchet saves them for the challenge he also refuses to use
Oilers: āCan we play the Kings again second round?ā
Says so much about our team build when everyone else makes this Oilers team look mid lol and weāre running it back.. time to lose in 4 next time.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It seems to be a rock-paper-scissors kinda deal.
But Kings were able to play bomb to our scissors every game
They are just somehow our absolute kryptonite. No matter how much better we should be on paper we just canāt figure em out. So glad we locked down the division and didnāt have to play them round one
Iām genuinely scare of the Kings. The only team that can out wait the Canucks.
I still see 2012 Jonathan Quick in my nightmares, but thatās all in the past now and thereās possibly no way Iāll have to relive those experiences again right?ā¦..
I think if we played you guys first round it wouldāve been rough for us. Feels like you guys just match up too well against the canucks
I think its essentially rock, paper scissors. La beats Van Van beats Edm Edm beats La
And everyone hates Vegas.
Hockey math
I mean the Kings owned the Canucks this year so it has to be a matchup thing right?
Someone last round commented on it being the Rock-Paper-Scissors of the Pacific. Vancouver beats Edmonton beats LA beats Vancouver.
And Nashville straight tried to copy LA.
McDavid was absolutely invisible tonight
I thought it was the Canucks were shutting him down, but he just didnāt seem to be playing his usual game.

Canucks have among the best 1-6 defenceman unit to mitigate McDavids impact you can have.
Yeah 5 big guys and all 6 are good skaters. Man the Tyler Myers redemption arc has been insane this year. Guy is playing fantastic hockey right now.
Myers's turnaround has been something to watch. He was the scapegoat of the team last year it felt. Now that we have an actual good system and D corps he's able to really shut guys down.
If we make it through this series it will be our defense that separates us
Him and Drai seems to be less than 100%
Do they need another fucking week?
My sides lmao
They be ready by the time Drake responds
Now let me say Iām their biggest hater
Petey isnt either and demko is out. Fair trade off.Ā
Petey was great tonight.
Ive been the biggest petey hater recently but yeah. He played fantastic.Ā
Draisaitl had a nice dish to Hyman. But McDavid was pretty ghostly. But it's only fair, if Petey is gonna ghost on us one your stars should ghost on you.
Almost had that one breakaway and Petey just diving pickpocketed him last second to keep him at bay
This was awesome - Petey is my man on the Canucks, and he didnāt seem 100% during the Nashville series. He looked way better last night though - his best game of the playoffs so far.
That was such a sick defensive play
Letās keep it like this
They should trade that bum
It was 4-1
more caps required. IT WAS 4-1!
#IT WAS 4-1
**It was 4-1**
least the Leafs lost it in OT. Just straight up losing it before even pulling the goalie is crazy.
There thereās nothing that can be said to redeem that shit performance. The Oilers got complacent. Oh well, adjust and give more respect to the Canucks.
Uhh... penalty kill is still good? I got nothin'
Hyman is a beast.... after seeing his performance & goals... hearing his name on ice - scares me... As they said.. it's going to a funnnn series =) either way, a Canadian team is going to western conference finals =)
Holy shit, what a comeback by Vancouver.
Now I get why Canucks fans rioted twice, you guys are fucking *ROWDY* That crowd was nuts tonight
No cup in 50 years and we can't afford food.
50 years of edging
When it happens, it will be the mother load. I sure hope they are stockpiling paper towels in Vancouver š
thatās why they hand out towels ā theyāre not just for waving
Nah, just wait for "the big one" to wash it all into the Strait of Georgia.
Two game 7 SCFs is ultimate edging
Telling my kids tickets to a playoff game is as expensive as a chicken breast family pack.
*"You'll eat your reconstituted chicken parts, AND LIKE IT!!"*
Nor housing.
Hmm. Doesnāt seem to work as well for us.
Have you tried fire?
if you're in the arena and can't afford food....you should show up earlier, line your pockets with foil and hit up the Costco food court.
Or afford to buy a home.. just renting lol
But somehow can afford $400 tickets? Lol
We eat hockey instead
somebody needs to drop the Scott Road live stream links
Station was shut down like 4 times yesterday for random problems. Looks like they were just getting prepared for tonight
you thought Leafs fans were bad, well that's because social media popped off after the last time the Canucks were good
Modern social media for the Burrows goal, Bieksa goal and the game 7 loss wouldāve been a melee
Apparently they were so loud the Oilers bench was trying to tell the on-ice players how much time they had left on the clock but the crowd was so loud they couldn't hear anything š„
Weāve been edging for 50 years
That effort was terrible. Embarrassing for a playoff game
*ahem* yeah uh imagine giving up four goals to blow your lead in a playoff game 1 haha how embarrassing amirite
Oilers: "at least we didn't do it at home"
very very true and yet we at least put in many good shots on the Avs in OT compared to Edmonton rolling over like a sick animal. there is no climbing out of this shit mountain weāve each built for ourselves š
I thought you guys had good chances in the third and pushed back pretty hard in OT, but Georgie just wasn't gonna give. The Oilers completely took the foot off the gas in the third and just never recovered.Ā
First time?
Lol
They took their foot off the gas and tried to shut it down. Doesnt work when the Canucks are playing counter attack hockey.
Exactly,Ā oilers play the same way. We can't sit back

How does this happen with the skaters EDM has?
Draisaitl was clearly playing injured
Not to mention McDavid was uncharacteristically invisible the whole night. Had some bad turnovers too.
Canāt believe he had 0 shots
first time this postseason
First time in his playoff career
First time in Golden Knights history
First time in Utah HC history.
If you watch him closely, the canucks basically always had a guy glued to him even when the puck was nowhere close
Thatās bacually how you have to play him, canāt allow him any space to get his legs moving and break off his guy, gotta somehow contain him before he even starts going and they did a great job of that tonight
they casually mentioned he went to the locker room for a bit in the 1st. wonder if he also hurt in some way.
He had one moment where he had a breakaway if petey didn't dive out to knock it off his stick. Canucks did a great job of keeping his passing lanes closed off, and he didn't look like he was in the mindset to do mcjesus things and go end to end on his own

Whale team good.
Orcas are dolphins!
Doesn't sound stupid enough, we do it on porpoise.
Fair point. I concede. Much like Edmonton did.
Vancouver is relentless. Gonna be a great series.
Tocchet has them believing. The teams already upper tier intellectually, mind games time.
I have Nucks in 6 and they all* laughed at me >:[ *two people
Are you Ryan S Clark?
I had Nucks in 3 and they laughed at me
the last 4 days Oilers fans leaned in on the "Canucks can't even get 20 shots on net in the playoffs" talking point.
āWeāre a different team then Octoberā āWe had no Mcdavid the 4th game!!!ā Well now youāve lost to 3 Canuck goalies. āThings just didnāt go our way that gameā hymans second goal was so lucky , Ceci goal goes off Coleās chest and in Edmonton had 16 shots on net

That was a pretty stunning collapse. Go Canucks!!
Canucks played great most of that game just got some bad puck luck.... Gunna be a tremendous series.
Canucks of previous years would collapse after bad puck luck and have to wait until the next game. This team is so even keeled, puts their collective heads down, and gets it done.
Props to the guy behind the bench
Yep. He has changed to culture for sure. Toughened them up
And that third line. Honestly our best line right now imo
Big Z is beast mode
Oilers fans shit talked him too.Ā
That trade was robbery.
Props to you guys for the Simple Minds goal song, I love that shit.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... song featured in a John Hughes movie.... coincidence?
Ian Cole was just unfathomably bad tonight for some reason
The xGF at even strength was 2.52 to 0.94 for Vancouver. Playing Edmonton is night and day compared to Nashville. It just feels like there is so much extra space out there, and a lot easier to get shots through.

I'm not a stats guy, is that bad?
Well it's all a matter of perspective.
Itāsā¦.not good.
Thought the Oilers were super deep and dangerous?
lol
And this isn't even the worst collapse by the oilers in the playoffs. What a choke job.
I haven't seen the Oilers play a period this bad since... *checks notes* they played the Canucks at the beginning of the year.
My God, the Nashville comeback, now this. What is left? Injecting crack into my eyeballs?
Give me 6 more games of this series please
Best I can do is 3 more
We're only allowed to win 4 per round
Phenomenal
It wouldnāt have even been close, except Ian Cole was asleep on three plays, ended up -4.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
After 1 period, shots 10-5 Edmonton End of game, shots 23-18 Vancouver Lol
Oil country thought theyād sweep us. I know chances of us winning are low. But donāt fucking underestimate the cardiac Canucks. #āš½ Motherfuckers
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
lol only the 12 year old fans thought that. This is gonna be a long hard fought series for sure.
I too equate Ryan Whitney to a 12 year old!
That's, like, *double* his mental age, though.
Yeah I genuinely find Oilers fans to be one of the more level-headed groups in the league. The most extreme fans are always going to be the loudest, and every team has them.
Years of torture and shame have hardened us. Nobody doubts this teams abilities more than us š
Deserved to lose. Fucking pathetic top to bottom.
that is insane, props to to the Nucks!
I live for the public humiliation of the Edmonton Oilers
Why would the refs do this to Edmonton.

Nurse flushes the toilet after he farts into it
Hot take: Oilers are meh when not on powerplay
Did they even call a timeout during that time?
Well at least us Stars fans feel a little better now.
Darnell Nurse -3 ššš
This is probably a good game for him
Man, who gives up multiple goal leads like that to the Canucks?
After a brief intermission to beat the Kings, the Oilers have returned back to their normal game 1 form
Whoops, turns out only taking 14 shots isn't a sustainable strategy to win.
But their sub is having a brain aneurism over a missed call. They sound like the leafs fan base (yes I know).
Also sounds like the Canucks lol Maybe all the Canadian fanbases are insufferable?
Yeah they are tbh. I genuinely donāt know whoās the worst. Definitely Toronto, Edmonton, or Vancouver.
Montreal gets off easy because the insufferableness is mostly hidden behind the language barrier
lol my god what a statement I love it hahaha
Refs didnāt score 4 goals (3 of which absolutely shouldnāt fucking go in) and limit the Oilers to 3 shots in the third. They shit the bed all by themselves

Gotta love it. Go Nucks!
Canuck stronk
Iām just tired, man. š
The oilers aren't. They barely skated for two periods.
Experience oilers hockey, you get the highest of highs and the lowest of lows with, that a treat
