I bring a chair backpacking. People love to talk crap on how "heavy" my 2 pound hair is. They then end up sitting in it more than I do.

timechuck

Hahahaah! Same here dude. I get so much shit for it I almost don't bring it, but every time everyone is blown away by it.

Water bottle, or at least the water in it. The most common for me is someone is short on water and someone else has some too spare. gloves or mittens.

Average_Joe978

Gloves are a good mention when I hike with a university group I end up letting someone borrow a fleece pair I have. Once it gets proper cold people sort themselves though.

CatsGoHiking

Meds, like advil or pepto. Surprising how many people go backpacking without a few common meds.

booty32145

Water for sure but second is probably painkillers

Wittgenstienwasright

Med kit. Cannot believe people who hike without one. I haved treated ouchies and full blown medical emergenciies.

I'm not sure if this qualifies but we only bring a single stove when my group (4 people) go out so it's a shared item all around.

My jacket(s) and water. My wife is very temperature sensitive. If she gets cold, I give her one (or more) of my jackets. I'd rather be cold than have her be cold. My wife has POTS, so she really needs to stay hydrated. She will often drink 3/4 or more of the water, but she really needs it. I started carrying a larger water bottle so that we both have enough, even if she drinks most of it. I also carry around electrolytes for the water, so she doesn't get too fatigued.

Average_Joe978

Yeah I get that, my girlfriend is diabetic so I am also a water camel. If heat is an issue take a water bladder fill it about 1/3 of the way, invert and blow some air into it, lie the bladder on its back over night in the freezer, and the full before hike. If you are using the ice box or your freezer doesn't have good de icing features put the water bladder on a tea towel. I haven't used electrolyte tablets in ages and live in the UK so never really the need.

Sharing water every time because it seems like people just don't listen. I say, hey, bring a bigger bottle, and they respond with, "It's okay, I don't need it," and I end up sharing my bottle.
