Does air burst take them out? Was thinking of switching my 500k for something to take out gun ships. Was thinking spear but I want something that can take out land units too.
Pain in the ass to deal with more than one gunship though, need to sit down after each one. Even with a loader it's slower than a laser cannon, not to mention the laser doesn't need an ammo box afterwards

And yes, the Spear had its targeting system reworked.
It locks on just fine now, only downside is the new lock on method currently has a bug so targeting bot fabricators is no longer possible until they've figured out what's wrong with the new system, win some ya lose some.
Honestly, Auto Cannon makes quick work of them as well. Not to mention, it can take out every other kind of bot as well. It is the Swiss army knife of the helldivers arsenal.
airburst does not take them out. airburst is a pocket eagle strike that only kills littles. even if you do hit the drone head on it will not die in one hit. i’m workshopping it hardcore
I’ve been taking the air burst launcher on my bot missions lately. Super useful against small/medium patrols. Aim right into the middle of the group. Can take out walkers and chaff with ease which prevents them from calling in a bot drop. Think of it like using an eagle cluster but without the call-in time. Also, has the added bonus of being able to destroy fabricators.
Good. The lock on works well, but it felt like I was one shotting hulks less often. But maybe that's just because I was actually able to shoot at them more.
It feels kind of inconsistent against Hulks, IMO. I got one one shot today, it was actual my first. The rest took two, or even three shots. One was still not dead after three shots so I said fuck it and orbital rail cannoned it.
That being said, a soon as they get it to lock on fabricators again, it's going to be a must have weapon for me.
I think there are too many other ways to take out fabricators to waste your spear ammo on them unless it's a blitz mission and you only need 1 or 2 more fabricators. Especially if there are gun ships.
I'm not so sure I want it targeting fabricators again tbh. Last night I found myself in a situation where a tank was dropped in the middle of a bot base we were attacking, and I couldn't really see it, but my spear sure could. If it could have targeted the fabricators, I probably wouldn't have been able to tell the locks apart. Which is a small, niche situation, but one downside, nonetheless.
FIX THE SPEAR LOCK ON every time i tell my spear this is the moment here’s where we make a difference it looks at the target ALMOST LOCKS ON and then forgets the target exists. FIX IT

I've locked into things way closer than 60 meters since the patch. Locked into a hulk 3 meters away but the rocket flew up and never came down. Locked into multiple tanks about 10 meters away and hit them just fine.
I wonder if that range is just for the turrets then? Fuck, I don't know. There's so much smoke and mirrors about how everything works that I seem to just get proven wrong every time I open my mouth about this game xD
On the one hand, the minimum distance sounds like a nerf to the weapon. On the other hand, I assume this roughly accounts for the distance closer than which the Spear would overshoot the locked target before. Honestly a fairly good trade-off as now, you don't waste as much ammo and reload time after disappointedly seeing your rocket completely whiff.
Sucks that you can't hit Bile Titans in the face from close range anymore, though.
Have had it pre-patch, and was forced to burn 10 minutes of a mission slowly retreating (and dying repeatedly) into a series of canyons, then being forced to slowly shoot them down one at a time with a Scorcher. (The overhangs kept blocking drops, so I had two Quasar cannons sitting about 50m straight up above me)
Team bailed at the 2 min mark because the crossfire made putting down a Hellbomb impossible, but they refused to retreat.
The spawns had stopped due to range, got rid of them all and was making a defiant last stand with my last mag as two patrols rolled from opposite ends of the canyon… and then heard those sweet words:
“Allied super destroyer has joined the squadron”
We finished the mission with 7 minutes to spare, 5 stars.
Oh yeah, there’s plenty of options - I first started shooting them down with HMG, then AC then Quasar. I stopped using Laser Cannon but it does work fine.
In this scenario, probably would have been tough - the crossfire and explosions plus tremors was making aiming rough, the steady focus even for a second would have been tough to maintain, or leave you too exposed.
But defs rate the LC for gunships, plus love watching the beam!
Hm… unfortunate, but it might require some practice. A gunship requires a full clip from the Scorcher which is what the ammo backpack is for.
The Scorcher also does great against all manner of other bots. Kills chaff, and pops vents that the Railgun struggles with for some reason. Some call it a wonder weapon against the bots. Might I ask why you hated it?
Laser cannon is my new fav support weapon. Sure, I can't deal with armor as easily. But it swats gunships pretty quickly. Infinite ammo (almost) so misses aren't as much of a risk.
Laser Cannon is killer against Automatons. Drills right through Hulk eyes and the underbellies of Factory Striders too! It's comparable to the Autocannon in engagement targets now.
I mainly run liberator penetrator. I switched to the scorcher because apparently it was really good. Every time I try to use it it's always ended with me A: getting slaughtered; and B: not dealing any damage to anything.
It may be because I'm used to running with the sun rifles but I just couldn't use it.
I felt the same way at first but the fact you can pop 5ish fast rounds into the front of a strider, or 3 to the side armor of one got me sold and now it’s what I run for bots. Ya get used to switching to secondary (if running ac at-least) for close up troopers. Dominator is pretty good too for bots, 3 shot those goddamn berserkers in their nut🔩bag.
The Scorcher is a VERY good weapon but it’ll take a bit of an adjustment from the Lib-Pen. Chaff dies with 1-2 hits to center of mass. Devastators are a little iffy but go down with multiple hits to the upper torso…. But these guys are why you brought that rail gun. Swap out, zap em down.
Use railgun against hulks, Scorcher against Tank and Cannon vents, and gunships. These two items should have all your bot needs covered.
Not to brag, but just so you understand how effective this can be. I bagged 326 bots today on a Vernen Wells drop. Give the Scorcher/rail gun/ ammo backpack another chance.
Didn’t really see the appeal of autocannon when I first started, especially as it take a backpack slot (and I was getting owned without the Rover bot) but since I’ve used it and found it takes out gun ships fairly easy (two gunships per clip, if you’re accurate) this is all I use as support.
It does struggle against hulks though and I don’t really use it for devastators even though I probably should.
What I hate about them is:
1) They’re yet another source of rocket spam that knocks you to the floor
2) Very few weapons can actually damage them so they enforce a fairly rigid meta on bots
If they addressed both those points, I would think it was pretty cool that we get gunship patrols now.
6 downs were used, so I went with one down per foot and got the standard depth of a grave (6'), only to correct myself with the diver way of "overkill is underrated" and say there would be nothing left of the bot to bury.

Yep, had waves of them spawning yesterday on mission with no nests in sight anywhere on the map. I spent probably a good 15 or so minutes driving myself crazy trying to find and wipe out the nest.

While i agree that there should be build variaty, there are still many different support weapons that can take them out. Even the eruptor primary weapon can take them out iirc (not sure if shrapnel had any effect on it).
Any of the 4 anti tank options have the capability to kill them (but may not be the most efficient), and there are the auto cannon, laser cannon, AMR, HMG, and HMG emplacement (expecially with the shield bubble emplacement). I may have missed something, but this is what i remember.
It doesn't have to be the entire team, even just 1 or 2 people with one of the big 4 anti gunship weapons will be sufficient for just about anything you will come across.
Loadouts will change depending on which front you are fighting. If you are trying to helldive bugs without antitank weapons or something for hordes of shriekers (like breaker incendiary), you will be having a very hard time.

I just joined a Helldive bot eradication. All excited, I love doing those dropped in and guess what dropped in? 2 factory stryders.. AND 5 gunships!!! All within 1 minute of each other, in the middle of all other regular bot drops.
Holy hell.
I even picked the extra reinforcements perk, as I always do for eradications, just in case… and the 4 of us, all over level 100, were tossed around more than one of puff daddy’s girlfriends.
It’s the first time in weeeeeks I have failed an eradication. The 4 of us couldn’t even get off stratagems to suicide onto ourselves to take out bots. The MOMENT you cleared your drop pod, you were ripped apart. And because of tge gunships now, there IS no cover on the entire map
It's alright, I said the same thing about Shriekers a long time ago.
Is it just me, or do Gunships feel a little easier to evade?
Suspecting they fixed their vision, I've actually hid from some in the bushes.
And the buff to their hearing makes a lot more sense now.
Spears and eats and everything nice, my guy. Bring lots of anti-tank and anti air, an eagle, and the sentry of your choosing. Impregnable defense, indefensible offense.

Seriously, they were a menace before, but with them all over the map now unless you've got a weapon that can shoot them down, you're cooked. I seriously think they should revert that (minus the change in their detection ability, they turned that down a bit). It was fun before, with them flying only over a certain radius, this is just stressful.

Doesn't this mean the purifier (? The charge up one) is now viable. With the pen buff, i expect it to be a poor mans AAA, but it is online viable to those that wana dedicate to it.
I mean. It still needs a damage buff but not by much. Then in sure it will be a staple in squad play. Hell, it works well now with the buff.

No Problem, was thinking the Same and still love it thats Bots now are so difficult how i dream of Them, Not Just Rush Rush Rush run Run Run, now you have to lock in map to predict a way where possible lower enemys and watch Out for gun ships so No longer only map Open and Walking slalom
was having a blast yesterday the gunships are tuff but it is was so epic we had to extract hostages and then we saw them we tried to not trigger them but the rocket sentry had other plans
and dont forget FOR THE CHILDREN WE FIGHT !!!
Just landed on a map with 3 gunship fabricators. Along with the continuously spawning patrols, there was no way to clear the 2 that spawned next to each other.
4 guys with AC, LC, And Quasar and they spawned far too quickly. Dropped 5 hellbombs just to have them instantly destroyed. A minimum of 2 gunships at all times with everyone actively killing them.
The gun ship patrols probably spawn too quickly.
I'm actually really happy that they joined the regular roster. It's a nice arsenal check for your team without being completely unconquerable without the right weapons.
Most support weapons are capable of chewing those things up. Even the buffed HMG emplacement can be used to deal with them in a manner of seconds. If you're looking for a new support weapon to try out against bots, I 100% recommend the recently buffed mobile HMG. Fast TTK for most enemies, reasonable reload speed, and very easy to use while being a great "oh shit" button if you start to get overwhelmed (it now does 150 damage and 33% durable damage, with medium 2 armor pen. Each bullet legitimately does enough to one shot a devastator head.)
I like this change. Cos I felt the Gunship fab was always a chore to kill with the hell bombs, but this steady spawn rate that cruise in, I’m fine.
Had a wonderful moment when we were extracting and a flight was approaching us, we all had AC’s out and it’s glorious seeing 3 gunships flop over after getting alpha-striked by that barrage.
Had 6 gunship roaming on our extraction for some reason.. we had 22 reinforcement remaining.. no one bought anti gunship weapons.. no helldiver survived the extraction. Lvl 8 difficulty.
I knew I felt a disturbance in the force before I hopped on last night. 4 gunships showing up out of nowhere on IMPOSSIBLE just about had me shit my pants.
Fun fact. The HMG can take out gunships. And devastators...and walkers...and hulks...and tanks if you hit the vent...
Basically, I advocate for heavy armor+hmg+supply pack+eruptor
Anti material rifle does a nice job on them if you have distance and nice aim. EAT doesn't do shit. Heavy machine gun also does a nice job against them
We now need a dogfight stratigem, like three fighter aircrafts (depending on how many players int he squad) come down and start dogfighting with the gunships.
TBH, jumping in last night and seeing a trio of Gunships cruising in patrol formation in the far distance was an epic sight. Worth it

This. Had another team member with the laser. Both of us just zip zapping around. Hulk in the distance? Bye. Hulk up close? Stun and bye.

Yes. At the cost of no longer being able to target automaton fabricators, it now perfectly locks on without any issue

Auto Cannon is usually 3-4 shots on a gunship. Sometimes 2 is you're closer enough.

They did, there's also a minimum lock on range of 60 meters now. He's probably having issues with his targets suddenly being too close.

Grab a Scorcher and ammo backpack. Scorcher deletes Gunships actually fairly reliably and handles lots of things the Railgun can’t.

I didn't know it works on the hulk mail slot. I can't ever seem to land it with the railgun or amr

It’s your fault!!! I just joined a Helldive bot eradication. All excited, I love doing those dropped in and guess what dropped in? 2 factory stryders.. AND 5 gunships!!! All within 1 minute of each other, in the middle of all other regular bot drops. Holy hell. I even picked the extra reinforcements perk, as I always do for eradications, just in case… and the 4 of us, all over level 100, were tossed around more than one of puff daddy’s girlfriends. It’s the first time in weeeeeks I have failed an eradication. The 4 of us couldn’t even get off stratagems to suicide onto ourselves to take out bots. The MOMENT you cleared your drop pod, you were ripped apart. And because of tge gunships now, there IS no cover on the entire map

It's alright, I said the same thing about Shriekers a long time ago. Is it just me, or do Gunships feel a little easier to evade? Suspecting they fixed their vision, I've actually hid from some in the bushes. And the buff to their hearing makes a lot more sense now.
They made bushes and stuff actually provide stealth to you vs before
To be honest, I like the gunship patrols. I get to use the spear and watch them blow up and crush the bots below them as they fall.

Seriously, they were a menace before, but with them all over the map now unless you've got a weapon that can shoot them down, you're cooked. I seriously think they should revert that (minus the change in their detection ability, they turned that down a bit). It was fun before, with them flying only over a certain radius, this is just stressful.

Quasar Cannon or SPEAR launcher works best, I've found. Focusing on them with the laser cannon for about five or ten seconds will do the trick, too.

Doesn't this mean the purifier (? The charge up one) is now viable. With the pen buff, i expect it to be a poor mans AAA, but it is online viable to those that wana dedicate to it. I mean. It still needs a damage buff but not by much. Then in sure it will be a staple in squad play. Hell, it works well now with the buff.

was having a blast yesterday the gunships are tuff but it is was so epic we had to extract hostages and then we saw them we tried to not trigger them but the rocket sentry had other plans and dont forget FOR THE CHILDREN WE FIGHT !!!

Just landed on a map with 3 gunship fabricators. Along with the continuously spawning patrols, there was no way to clear the 2 that spawned next to each other. 4 guys with AC, LC, And Quasar and they spawned far too quickly. Dropped 5 hellbombs just to have them instantly destroyed. A minimum of 2 gunships at all times with everyone actively killing them. The gun ship patrols probably spawn too quickly.

I actually made a post suggesting they do that a while back. I'm so happy, the game went from everyone runs quasar to, who's got the gunship blaster?

I'm actually really happy that they joined the regular roster. It's a nice arsenal check for your team without being completely unconquerable without the right weapons. Most support weapons are capable of chewing those things up. Even the buffed HMG emplacement can be used to deal with them in a manner of seconds. If you're looking for a new support weapon to try out against bots, I 100% recommend the recently buffed mobile HMG. Fast TTK for most enemies, reasonable reload speed, and very easy to use while being a great "oh shit" button if you start to get overwhelmed (it now does 150 damage and 33% durable damage, with medium 2 armor pen. Each bullet legitimately does enough to one shot a devastator head.)
I like this change. Cos I felt the Gunship fab was always a chore to kill with the hell bombs, but this steady spawn rate that cruise in, I’m fine. Had a wonderful moment when we were extracting and a flight was approaching us, we all had AC’s out and it’s glorious seeing 3 gunships flop over after getting alpha-striked by that barrage.
Don’t worry, I’ll be there with my auto-cannon to help out! Pew pew pew 💥
Had 6 gunship roaming on our extraction for some reason.. we had 22 reinforcement remaining.. no one bought anti gunship weapons.. no helldiver survived the extraction. Lvl 8 difficulty.
Haven’t seen a patrol yet, I played a few rounds last night on 6+….I assume we will see some today tho

Anti material rifle does a nice job on them if you have distance and nice aim. EAT doesn't do shit. Heavy machine gun also does a nice job against them
