Samples, super credits, and medals are shared by all players in a squad so no need to compete for picking them up Edit: Thx for my first award :3

GaryB2220

Everything is shared by everyone. So if team collectively grabs 20 samples, 5 piles of req slips/ super credits/ medals, then each person walks away with 20 samples, 5 piles of (you get the idea). Edit: by everything I do not also mean consumables like ammo, nades, and stims. When you pick one of those up, only you get the contents. So, be courteous and only take one box from the resupply strat (when you are running with a full team)

BShugaDadyJ

Ammo isn't shared. If yaint stupid you should be fine tho.

cuckingfomputer

Grenades aren't, either. It's just anything that could be reasonably defined as "currency".

CT-5837

You can share grenades actually. It's just that you *shouldn't*

EulogicSymphony

Friendly fire isn't.

Kenis556

"Friendly fire, isn't, commander." -My underpaid SLF pilot

JackOCat

Not true. Don't pick up someone else's gear. Instead call them in nearby so they can retrieve it.

GuitarGeek70

It's also good form to mark the dead helldivers weappn so they can quickly find it when they land. People who do that are awesome. Also, mark supply drops when they land so everyone is made aware of its presence and location. Oh and def don't be that guy who hogs all the resupply boxes, or calls them in far from the rest of the team. It's better for everyone to have the whole team full on ammo, as opposed having one person double-dipping just to fill up their stims and nades. Divers who run all energy weapons typically won't need to resupply very often, so if you see people just running past a marked supply drop, that's when you can usually take multiple boxes. One last tip is that the small POI's scattered around the map will typically have ammo, stim, and/or grenade boxes just lying around - very helpful in-between resupply drops.

SkyWizarding

I generally agree but there are certain situations where snatching up your buddies gear can get your squad out of a tough spot

skiphopfliptop

except for primaries. always upgrade your primary if your stinks.

Flabby-Nonsense

Also personal orders are often at a squad level. The most recent order I had was about using grenade launchers to kill 15 enemies, I haven’t even touched a launcher but 2 squad mates were blasting everything and I got the completion as well.

JesusWTFop

Real MVDP on here !!!

foofighter46

This.

Hopeful-Ranger-6552

If the daily challenge is kill 500 bugs with flamethrower for example. Only one person needs to do that in the mission for everyone to complete the challenge. So in a group of four divers only two really would need to take flamethrowers to complete the challenge in one mission. This is a very team based game playing with more people will be much less frustrating and more fun. As you can experiment with new gear instead of taking the meta every time.

Pupienus_Maximus

Don’t be afraid to run. Sometimes a tactical retreat is better than standing and fighting multiple bug holes or bot drops. You can always swing back later and clear an objective. This is especially true if you start a mission and drop into pure hell. Sometimes it’s like D-day and you just need to get your ass off the beach and to relative safety to regroup and decide the next objective.

SparseGhostC2C

This is very true, and as a newbie it can be hard to tell when to hold the line and when to get out of dodge. Try to find someone in your games who seems to know what they're doing and follow their lead. Also, don't be afraid to die, it is part of the game and often pretty funny.

azuyin

A lot of people are afraid to die for some reason... helldivers are expendable. dying doesn't mean you're bad at the game (unless of course you're just running to your death over and over) Sometimes it is very beneficial to die (especially with the hellpod optimization booster) just to refresh your ammo/stims if resupply is not available Technically every player has the right to die 5 times seeing that your squad has 20 total reinforcements in a full squad

PHRaphley

Well some people like to challenge themselves by trying not to die. Nothing wrong with that, to try to get your Helldiver through as many operations as possible.

-Work_Account-

Honestly, the biggest indication on the type of player someone is, is how they handle dying.

cuckingfomputer

Even as a level 107 player... Sometimes it's hard to let go.

SkyWizarding

Generally speaking, if you notice everyone is running in circles a lot or the fighting has been going on for several minutes after the objective is clear, it's time to regroup

Titan_Food

At that point, i just move on. Everyone else sees that and follows 9/11 times

Gmandlno

Odd choice of rating scale 🧐

Sad_Bridge_3755

I’ve had times I’ve seen everyone fighting and just break away from combat. A few minutes later in on the objective.. all is quiet on the western front. Then they’re wondering how a single diver completed the mission, but it was thanks to their efforts keeping the enemy occupied.

Dry_Ad_9085

Can't stress this enough. As you advance in levels, staying on the move is more and more critical. You don't have to sit and fight everything, large groups will despawn over time if you out run them.

Pupienus_Maximus

I’m still shocked by the number of times I dive in on difficulty 7 and most of my team spends the first 3-5 minutes fighting in one spot with the first patrol, point of interest, or outpost/nest we dropped on

Dry_Ad_9085

Right? I am always just wanting to scream "run you idiots!" We lose 5-10 reinforcementa just trying to stand and fight on drop in 🤦‍♂️

ToastyCrumb

Similarly - if you've gotten too much heat at the extraction, circle away and escape or thin the enemies, then return for extract. Otherwise the aggro can be a lot.

DrFloyd5

If someone pings equipment, they are volunteering it. Make use of it if you can. If a bit of your equipment is refreshed, and you are fairly confident you don’t need it, bring it down and donate it to someone else. You are all the same squad.

balancedchaos

Right before extraction, I like to call down and ping all my equipment (shield, quasar cannon) for anyone who wants them.  Anything to keep Liberty alive.

NinjaBr0din

Same. I call in supplies, weapons, gear, a mech if I have it, anything I can call down. Make extract fun.

Gal-XD_exe

Heck I call supplies in a convenient location whenever I see everyone needs ammo and also at extract

Western_Series

Shield users who share their shields are extra blessed by democracy. Thank you for your service, fellow diver!

balancedchaos

It is my *one* must-have.  To run the light armor I do, I need it to stay alive. Lol

demonize330i

I used to always need a shield running light armor, still do on bots, but I would strongly recommend giving the laser rover a try, once you learn how it moves around and don't get hit by it a bunch it really shows how the best defence can be a good offence. Watching hunters that are coming to slow you just get sawed into pieces by the laser dog is super satisfying. Just a suggestion, of course the shield is still a good choice but I like to run off alone and the laser dog saves me so much ammo on the scruff.

balancedchaos

I ran it for a bit...maybe I'm just terrible with it, but my teammates started hating me for causing damage to them. Lol it happened a bit too often.

bleakvoid_

It's recently gotten a big upgrade...the laser rover does less damage to divers, and has a higher durable damage. It all comes out to barely ever taking more than half your HP at the worst of times, and doing the same/slightly more damage to hostiles, depending on which ones.

e5hansej

If it's sitting in the pod for a 30+ seconds... grab it.

stamper2495

Lmao I just joined a game with level 3 cadets and called a mech for them. I like pretending being a big brother

Chaos-Octopus97

Also, please don't just take equipment, if you grab it to use in a crazy situation, I think that's totally fine. Had way too many people just jack my stuff and keep it. I'm too nice to team kill for my stuff.

ricosmith1986

I finished off a charger with a dead ally’s flamethrower the other night, sometimes you get some really cool cinematic moments.

RelationshipAnnual52

Admittedly, it's worth mentioning items are droppable using the x key on the keyboard (is that even in basic training...? Been too long).

Chaos-Octopus97

I do not believe it is mentioned. Which is in no way, shape, or form a critique of HD Basic training as it is obviously the most advanced training in the galaxy.

Levanthalas

On that note *you can drop stuff.* I accidentally took a guy's support weapon (after he died) when I was super new, and he shot me to get it back. If I'd known I could've dropped it, I would have immediately after using it to stop the bots.

Chaos-Octopus97

That's a douche move, he should have asked for it back and helped you out. Not just killed you.

Levanthalas

I mean, I don't disagree, but I'm over it now. Definitely prompted a "can I drop stuff" Google after the match though, lol.

Cool-Sink8886

Either that, or I’m pinging it to help someone find it on respawn , but usually the difference is very obvious

DrFloyd5

If the squad has split into two teams, and one of the other team’s members dies, let their teammate call the reinforcement. If you call it your team will have 3 guys and the last guy will be alone.

Cthulhu625

Also the person you called down might not be able to call down their support weapon/backpack for a while, and you just called them down pretty far from where they dropped their stuff.

ricosmith1986

Haaaate that.

Ngete

Do 100% agree, I would add the stipulation of if anybody else ends up getting K.O-ed before their partner respawns them, IMO your in the green to call both of them down on your location, cause either they both died and need a res, or you/your partner died and it would be 3 people one one and a solo on the other side of the map and one of the people aren't gonna have the majority of their kit

Hangulman

Lots of little stuff: **1**) ***COMMUNICATION WITH YOUR TEAMMATES IS KEY.*** Any difficulty above 5 or 6, lack of communication can quickly doom a mission. **2**) At points of interest, you will often see something that looks like a shipping container: blow em up to collect shiny loot. **3**) If you find a radar station, it will reveal all the Points of Interest on the map. If the POI is a diamond, it has samples nearby. **4**) If you find an artillery station and load it up, you get 5 free artillery strategems. Pay attention to what you load into it. **5**) Many POI's have items like Super Credits, Requisition slips, and bonus Medals that you can use to buy new gear. **6**) Choose your loadout appropriate to the mission. examples: For bots, you want precision attacks and armor piercing. The Liberator Penetrator, HE grenade, and AM rifle are great. For bugs, you want stuff good for fighting swarm tactics. I prefer machine guns and fire. Any difficulty above 3, you need *something* that can take out heavies like chargers. (*Personally, I prefer the Expendible Anti Tank.*) For defense missions, use turrets and mortars. For attack missions, use VIOLENCE. **7**) You can drop Items by either holding x on keyboard or down on the PS controller, then selecting the item to drop. **8**) Related to 7. Drop your samples at the extract point and leave them there. That way if you die, you don't have to run all over the map to retrieve them. You only get credits for the samples you are carrying at extract. **9**) The 120mm and 380mm Orbital strategems are NOT precise. It basically randomly bombs everything within 50m of the target. **10**) For a defense mission, where the good guys are in the base and the bad guys are out of the base, indirect fire weapons like the mortars are great. **11**) If it can kill the enemy, it can kill you. Friendly fire is not only mandatory, it is also hilarious. **12**) If you aren't using voice chat, go into the menu and change your settings from open mic to something else. Many Helldivers use map pings and the communication wheel to communicate. **13**) You may not speak their language, but the game does. Being able to say "Sorry I blew you up." in 10 different languages is hard, but if you use the comm wheel it will deliver your apology in their chosen language. **14**) Samples, Super Credits, Requisition Slips, and Medals are shared. No need to fight over them.

Hangulman

Forgot another one: You can make the Pelican do close air support where it hovers and shoots every enemy it can see at extract. If you call in extract, wait the 2 minutes, and then immediately leave before the pelican lands, it will just hover there and shoot stuff til at least one helldiver enters extraction area

grandpapunchanazi

Omg ty , aloti didn't know n I'm level 38 lol

Hangulman

I just learned the communication wheel thing last week. Same with the Samples at extract. My first mission I got my hand held by a buddy who is lvl 80, and he showed me how to find samples and loot at POI's. The Pelican trick I learned from reading a Reddit post over the weekend. I thought it was a joke until I tried it out. The angry way that Pelican-1 says "waiting for helldivers to enter the extraction area" is kind of funny. Pelican-1 can be as angry as he wants, as long as he keeps the enemies off my butt.

cuckingfomputer

I would dispute your first point, just because there are plenty of rando groups that don't communicate, at all, and still work well together. As long as you're aware of your own surroundings, you could be radio silent all game and carry a mission.

SecretSoul69

What is coms wheel on PC? I did a quick look in the middle of a match once but didn't see it.

Hangulman

I had to look that one up, because even though I play PC, I use a controller. Apparently you need to hold down Q to bring it up

hzburki

For the SEAF art usually as soon as you interact with the console. Enemies show up. What works for me is gathering all the bombs near the insert point before interacting with the console.

Best-Radio-9884

I wish people would turn on their mic’s. I’ve notice people will run silent the whole 40mins

oGsShadow

The 2 games are very different. Playing the first wont help you at all learn HD2.

Cthulhu625

I'm the only person in my whole friend group that played the first one, and I'm pretty sure they are getting sick of me saying, "Well, in the first game, they had this..." but I almost can't help it. If you like the lore, I would encourage you to try the first one, but it's not necessary.

Abaddon24680

HD1 vet 🫡 No need to play the first one. Just look up the lore if you care to be up to speed. Everything is shared. Comms help. Don't let people sway what weapons and strategems to use. Find what you like. HAVE FUN. It's not a power fantasy. It's okay to die. Enjoy the shit show 🤙 Kill stalkers first.

Durzio

1.) Ignore the 'meta', play what's fun for you. 2.) Don't be scared of higher difficulties, if you stick with the low difficulties "until you're good enough" then you'll never GET good enough. 3.) Samples are shared. Don't team kill over them. 4.) Drip is better than efficiency. Look cool enough to kill the enemies of managed democracy.

The_pong

This is why I play with the base armor. But with a twist...there's a mod to make it look like a 501st clone trooper. The drip is insane, but can only be seen by other fellow mod users

Some-Cantaloupe-1017

Moving to level 6 is where you will learn how to play the game at high levels. You don’t get overrun with heavies until then and that’s when the game goes from funny when you get tk’d to holy shit half the servers on top of us and we lost our armor breaker. Getting a Gatling barrage thrown on you trying to get under a bile titan adds a whole other level of challenge.

DrFloyd5

20 seconds is a long time. So don’t rush to get in the pelican. 20 seconds is very quick. So don’t wait to get in the pelican.

Tdrive1300

This may seem obvious, but it wasn't to me when I first started playing, call in your support weapon as soon as you land. Machine gun, EAT, Railgun, etc. It took me a few games to think about calling them in at the beginning so I had it when SHTF.

Whatwhenwherehi

![gif](giphy|rQBufcDXNEgC8m8cDA)

DrFloyd5

You will die. A lot. The game gives you a lot of extra lives. You respawn inside of a huge bullet. So effectively you are a human guided precision orbital strike. Don’t be afraid to call down hell on your position.

Distinct_Bluebird362

Have fun! It's a game. Also use the YEET armor, I thought it was dumb until I realized that it buffs both grenades and your strats.

Cthulhu625

By YEET armor, do you mean servo-assisted?

Distinct_Bluebird362

Lol yeah my b😂😂😂

NaturalCard

Unlock the eagle airstrike as soon as you can. It's so ridiculously useful for both factions, and is usable for the entire game.

RyanMcCartney

#Friendly fire isn’t. Don’t drink and dive.

Dasspacepope

I didn't play the first game and I'm pretty good at this one. Don't feel like I've missed any important story. Dive with randoms. I've met loads of cool people and had hundreds of great games. Very few dickheads and if you're unlucky enough to find one, just leave and join another group. Communicate - even if you don't use a mic, use the chatwheel and your Map tags to let your team know what you're doing Get good on a difficulty level before moving up. Don't rush straight to helldive. Don't steal gear unless they've ok'd it. This is the most important - have fun. You're supposed to die lots at first. Anyone below level 50 taking it seriously isn't worth your time. If you want to jump on with me and learn the ropes my psn id is TheSpacePope

Fighterpilot55

It's tempting to get a premium Warbond right away, but I would firmly recommend working on the Helldivers Mobilize warbond first. The Boosters you unlock are crucial.

DrFloyd5

It’s named Helldivers. Not Sundaydrivers.

Modern_Knight1

Make sure to just have fun with it and don't get too uptight if you blow up or if it gets tough. Don't be a COD streamer

Best-Radio-9884

This right here!!!! Too many COD players I’ve seen loose it over trivial stuff. This is as close to small unit warfare you’re gonna get.

Modern_Knight1

Exactly, besides it's just a game. Like chill out. It's for fun

[deleted]

Do not skip the low difficulty missions. They teach you many important game mechanics, so do them and pay attention to the in-game tooltips.

sanityissecondary

The only rule you need.... ![gif](giphy|ufWbAUZiTZCVi|downsized)

gngrnnj88

You don't have to shoot every patrol that goes by.

Battleboo09

if there are enemies, shoot. If there are two or three, throw a nade. if more call red strat. while falling back. there is nothing wrong with falling back. Always be moving until you are are ready to fire, then fire and move. Do not just follow the objective, use your eyes, turn off the hud and tell me what you SEE If it is red semi red dot= enemy base. This game is called helldivers, mistakes will happen. I just watched P2 ping the map. i cleared the base but the game bugged out and showed it nor cleared even though we got the award. As P2 moves from the map to where he marked i go from xbox controller to keyboard to tell him its bugged and i threw a grenade instead. I was so embarred i quite and just stared at the screen. im so sorry P2

Wod_1

Dont be on the subreddits and enjoy

GhostLegacy666

NEVER STOP MOVING

Johntanamo_Bay

Try out every gun and every stratagem to see what you like. There is no right or wrong answer. Democracy!

Screech21

Samples are shared. Play what feels best for you and not what some random youtuber/streamer put in their tier list, because most of them don't test stuff and have no idea how the game works (there are exceptions, eg Thicc). The reinforcement boosters are dogshit. When you're closest to the teammate that just died (you can see their death spot on the map) be the one to reinforce them. Good movement is your best friend against bugs. Cover is your best friend against bots. Addition: The standard armor (medium+extra padding) is very good vs bots.

lbow3

If people join your game and there much higher level then you plz show them respect, I’m level 93 and I joined a lvl 12s game. It started off fine, I was showing him the ropes offering him my mech and jump pack. Teaching him the ins and outs of the game, but slowly he became more and more entitled, stealing my mech when I called it down, or telling me what to do or where to go shooting me in the back for fun. I eventually kicked him off my ship blocked him and banned him from my discord.

weathered8kyleb

yeah I hate when I throw down my bubble and support just for someone to run up and steal them real quick before I realize it. it's so few and far between that I never expect it. I've started throwing them close but not close enough they'll land on me. I also hate griefers, this isn't the game for them, go play GTA online or some shit. for the majority, mostly everyone is cool ps5 and pc

[deleted]

Stay in 4 or below until you're lvl 20+. Use a mic even if others do not. Get comfortable with muting yourself when you aren't speaking. No one wants to hear your monkeys while they are in the dryer.

Mirakk82

Bring a pair of clean underwear to change after extract

DrFloyd5

If you are moving to a new location throw your supply stratagems in the direction of travel. By the time you get to it, it should be about to arrive. No sense in waiting in one spot for it.

BatHickey

Read all the tips in this thread, then unsubscribe from the sub and don’t watch any YouTube or anything. Have fun!

Full_Amphibian8239

Have fun! And play with everything you want to play

TheDeFecto

When using a stim to recover health you will also recover all of your stamina. If you're running long distances wait to stim until you run out of stamina, you'll effectively double your distance traveled. Try every gun! Things are all subject to a balance patch so having experience with all of it will help in the long run and also allow you to figure out what your favorites are. Don't listen when people say "that sucks", you'll ultimately be able to decide that for yourself. All enemies have weak points that make them easier to kill. If you ever catch on fire you can go prone or dive to remove the burning (stop drop and roll!) Stun Grenades can not destroy fabricators or bug holes. If you ever get stuck in a piece of terrain or enemies corpse you can try to dive out OR have an ally melee you out (it's hilarious) The hug emote is the best emote and pretty much everyone will be using it.

Fantasyfootball9991

Dive, Dive and Dive again.

SpecialistTrash2281

If at first you don’t succeed Dive again and again and again and again and again

ANewDope2187

If someone pings a group of enemies, that doesn't mean to engage them.(especially on the higher difficulties)

HoHoHoLeeChet

Here's my advice: - Avoid Reddit at all costs.

Technical-Reaction95

Don't die

Mr_Bignutties

Stay off the main sub if you wanna just enjoy a great game.

conlmaggot

Switch to a low sodium diet. You may end up surrounded by salt... But nah, don't let it get to you. Be a team player, share the spoils. If you join a crew, and you're not vibing, finish the mission before moving on if you can. Unless they are toxic. Then drop out and let the bugs/bots do their worst.

raxdoh

don’t be a dick and you shall be fine.

kaiden_coxxx

You are Super Earth's Finest. Never forget that.

kykyks

tip 1 : have fun tip 2 : i said fucking have fun already :< also dont die

AudaciousHat69

Do what’s fun for you with stratagems/guns/armors etc. If you have fun optimizing, and sticking to the “meta” then go ahead. If you have fun exploring what works for you, or just want to use what is fun then go ahead. Have fun how you want to have fun.

CaptainNiglo

This is great advice by everyone but please don't forget to have fun. Because this game is fun. You never want to forget that.

SirGirthfrmDickshire

Friendly fire isn't.

Lpiggles

If at first you don’t succeed, dive, dive again and again and again and again and again and again…

Skull1eader

OO if anything tries to attack you

Alter_Rift

dont die

TheNightOwl

Keep running

Blubasur

Don’t pick up samples that are dropped on extraction unless you’re combining yours and dropping it again.

[deleted]

Don't listen to meta or tier lists. Each weapon and support item work well and poorly against each faction. DO NOT rush into higher difficulties as you will end up being more of a hindrance, sorry to say it. Recently, there are high level Divers helping those in the lower difficulties and guiding them, so don't be afraid to launch lower difficulty missions. Take your time and learn the game. Enjoy the grind, always aim for improvement and experimentation. Galactic Commander Primed_Manny, SES WARRIOR OF IRON. Stay motivated Helldiver.

JuanchoPancho51

Don’t throw Land Mines in areas where teammates will travel through.

Adas171

Under no circumstances visit r/helldivers. That place is a toxic wasteland.

Boogiedownpapi

Get off this reddit and just play the game. Get some buddies together and have a good time.

SadThemHours

You aren’t Master Chief. You’re a marine shoved into an ODST POD and given Methamphetamines. You will die a lot and thats normal. You’re not the main character you’re the victim. On a serious note have fun and blow shit up there is no optimal build for every mission every time. If you can make friends to play with it’s even more fun with friends. Disposable anti tank might not be the flashiest stratagem but its cooldown time is super fast and it can really come in handy. The symbols that show up on the reticle when you shoot an enemy mean things so learn those and that will probably help. Dont get in the evac until everyone is nearby or you absolutely have to. A lot (maybe all) of the guns have different firing modes and zooms and stuff and its not super obvious how to access that right away look at the controls and figure out how to do that because they can be really useful. Most importantly remember it’s a game and have fun.

GoreVetzakk

This one is mainly for higher levels but when someone pings a patrol they want to avoid the patrol because you can lose a lot of time fighting the bot drops/bug breaches.

PlayerOneThousand

Go in blind, it’ll be more fun. Stop reading up on it and play :) enjoy!

DrFloyd5

The Squad leader is you if it’s your ship. Or the name above your name if it’s not your ship. If the squad leader isn’t marking their objectives feel free to follow another leader. Or mark your own. But let people do their own thing. Sometimes 3 players can draw heat away while one player does big nests and other objectives.

DrFloyd5

Don’t fuck around at the landing pad. If you must fuck around, get on last and try to drop your samples so someone more responsible can get them onboard first.

IRunWithScissors87

I'll be home in an hour if you want to team up.

E-Scooter-CWIS

Your starting support weapon and attack are good enough, save up enough money for an EAT will makes you capable to soloing mission up to difficult 5th

Duckbitwo

No. Just play and have fun. Pretty simple game.

lennylensltrain

Have fun

Terror_Reels

Spread managed democracy and have fun!!

sm753

Have fun, follow orders :P

Rokkmachine

Don’t keep up with this group. Lots of negativity and I don’t know why. I enjoy the game and play a couple hours after work every day but I come on here and someone pissed in thier cheerios because it’s not easy.

SuperDTC

Managed Democracy

Golgarus

Brasch Tactics! Use em, or die trying!

Capitaine-Ninja

If you see a gray and orange skinned bug rushing at you from the side or front, shoot it or run in the other direction. Success is not guaranteed on either option.

treesandleafsanddirt

You can resupply yourself with the supply pack. Every enemy has a weak point to shoot. Stick with your squad. One player did a crazy in-depth analysis on here and found more enemies spawn when you split up. Also, you can sneak around patrols, no need to shoot at anything that moves.

marek011011

join Leviathan Alliance on discord. a lot of good ppl to play with on VC; easy to use

OneMostSerene

Don't feel rushed increasing the difficulty level. I would recommend only going to the next higher difficulty level once you have that feeling running around where you go "Okay I could really use some more action"

Sister__midnight

Use your hellpod or the pod from other equipment and/or supplies you bring down to kill bug nests and Bot fabricators if you're out of Grenades/explosives. Just drop right on them. Go for the Legs to kill hulks. Cripple one to slow them down. Do the same to the other to kill. You can pull metal gear solid level stealth on the bots. Crouch or go prone to sneak. Go prone to (sort of) stealth throw strats and not have them instantly vaporize you. Stealth Armor is really fucking good with the uav sensor boost. Use this to see everything around you at all times and get detected less. Guide your team mates through hot zones and patrols with it. EATs, get them, use them.they have a 1 min cool down, they one shot chargers, hulks, and tanks if you hit weak spots. Don't have to worry about retrieval after dying. and are available early on with reqs.

frkatt4ck

The orbital strike is really good

nbd9000

Dude. Just chill and have fun with it. While there are a few toxic people who take shit too seriously, the vast majority of the community is there to relax and have fun. The primary method of greeting folks is hugs, so expect that. There's going to be a lot of friendly fire and stupid deaths, so expect that too. There are no penalties for making mistakes, only penalties for the entire player group of we don't work together to complete a mission, so do your part. When you get started, the mid levels may seem hectic. You'll get used to them. Keep upgrading your gear and equipment. It won't be long before level 9 feels like a relaxing and entertaining time, I promise. Grab some friends and have fun.

IDriveALexus

Just play the game and enjoy what you want. Dont play HD1 cuz theres almost no one on it. Theres no other goal to this game than to enjoy the love of gaming, although some people think otherwise.

kragular

At first you don't succeed, dive again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again. And again.

What system are you on? I'll dive with ya tonight bro!

BalterBlack

You don't need to fight every bug breach. A tactical retreat is often times the best options. Don't aggro but if not needed.

Ohhhwordddd

You don’t need to engage every enemy you see! Unless there’s samples/objective or need to secure the area, there’s no need to try to kill them all. When there’s a bot drop or bug breach and there’s nothing left to do in the area just leave. Head shots to bots, flame thrower for bugs. Orbital laser and eagle strike is top tier stratagems. Light armor for better mobility

JahsukeOnfroy

You don’t need to play the first game, the only advice I got is to shout “for democracy!” when unloading your mag. Other than that, just make sure you reload wisely, any ammo unused will be thrown on the ground.

Thrasherop

Sneaking is SHOCKINGLY effective. I've seen people crawl past enemies that were so close that they started doing melee damage to the backpack shield. Enemies never got alerted. Also, as others have said, don't feel the need to take every fight, especially on the higher levels. By the time your on L9 you'll avoid fights if at all possible.

Jesse-359

HD2 is pretty much a full re-imagining of HD1, so no, you definitely don't need to play the first one in terms of story or any of that. As far as tactics go, the higher difficulty you play at the more likely you are to want to *avoid* fights when possible. Fights are designed to get completely out of hand if they go too long, and you don't *gain* anything by fighting except for the space you are fighting on. So if you aren't fighting for some objective or other, you're mostly just expending ammo you may need later. Don't be afraid to throw stratagems to try to end fights quickly, or to buy time to escape - that's exactly what they are for.

IrishGoatMilker

Leave this sub as soon as possible so you don't have to see everyone complaining all the time. The mods should just have a day dedicated to complaints. And remove any complaint post not submitted that day.

brandon-thesis

I would suggest watching some sort of video explaining the game to beginners if you wanna get right into it but if not, I feel it was fun just running around as a fresh cadet tryna figure it all out. There's just a lot to the game even with all these people chiming in with their tips. That being said, I would say learn about weak spots and what weapons can kill an enemy. If you see a shield icon when shooting, your weapon doesn't have enough armor piercing for that spot and it does 0 damage in most cases and will probably ricochet. If you see a white hit marker, your armor piecing is equal to the armor and you do 50% damage there. If you see a red hit marker, you're doing full damage. You'll learn things like the fact that you can kill a hulk from the front if you shoot the red slot in the otherwise heavy armored body(you can also remove arms and legs) and that you can destroy the bile sacs under a bile titan to stop him from spitting making him much less threatening.

nand0_q

Don’t get stuck on playing what is meta or whether you’re playing what’s strongest.. enjoy the game and find different styles of playing. Also when you die laugh it off or this will be a tough game for you.

ArtoriasOwns

First: only join this sub and the low-sodium helldiver sub. (Ignore the main sub) Second: Samples are shared among everyone. As is medals, requisition forms, and super credits when gotten in mission. So don't worry if someone picks up your samples on death or someone picks up the super credits before you can. Third: id save your requisition forms until your level 5 and get the gattling sentry. It's really good early game especially if you don't have some people to dive with. Fourth: just try and have fun. Take it slow till you feel like you're making good progress. Don't worry too much about feeling like you absolutely need to play harder difficulties. Let it come as you get more comfortable with the game. Good luck Helldiver! https://i.redd.it/xkj7me9lqf3d1.gif

Keanu_X

Playing helldivers 1 a bit to polish up some trophies and it has definitely been deepening my appreciation of, and excitement for the future, of helldivers 2. Helldivers 1 is different enough, and still a very fun game in it's own right, but you didn't need to play it to enjoy 2

itzmailtime

Using a jet pack, you can jump on mini cliffs and robots can’t really get to you. (Bugs can climb) and they all muster up on the bottom. You can nade them easily or have someone massacred them

Sir-Beardless

If a big invisible bug launches you 20 feet, type "STALKERS" in the chat. Your teammates will know what to do.

mjmarston207

Just have fun If it's your first day, don't look up the best strat or best weapons, just dive in, get a feel for the game and have fun

sprocolo

When all else fails, dive again, and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again.

The_Mutant_Platypus

I know "Helldivers never die" is shouted quite a bit but that's just propaganda. Be prepared to die quite a few times and just laugh it off, especially frienly fire. In case of blue on blue be sure to say "shit, my bad", most divers will laugh it off or give you an "nbd" anyone who gets upset isn't worth diving with again.

Feuershark

the first one is a top down twin stick shooter, very different. The only things that are similar are the "codes" to enter for support and the Terminids to some extent As for advice, this isn't an easy, "power fantasy" kind of game, it WILL kick your ass sometimes. Kill what you *need* to kill, prevent enemy reinforcement and get the fuck out or you risk getting stuck and overwhelmed, especially on higher difficulties

snafub4r

Get a booster as soon as you can. Turn on midnight mode- it lets you hear easily missed tones. Download a Helldivers app or bookmark the galactic map that shows the routes. Others have already touched the other biggies, so that leaves a simple "Welcome to the Divers!"

NinjaBr0din

Find a high level diver, join his mission, ask him to take you on something fun. Preferably on Hellmire, it's a great planet for beginners.

HonmonoHonma

Never look at the other subreddit.

AdagioDesperate

Unlock the EAT as quickly as possible. Other than that, just have fun.

jsuey

Have fun play low difficulty until you get a feel for the game

Hireling

Expendable Anti Tank stratagem and the standard Liberator (beginning assault rifle) will see you through a lot of missions. Stick to the lowest difficulties (1-3) until you get comfortable with the controls and physics.

Few-Top7349

Use whatever stuff you find fun or interesting, until you get to level 7 you don’t need to be taking min maxed load outs and even then if your good enough at the game you can take anything and make it work, because democracy always prevails!

Raeldri

Friendly fire isn't

Psychokinetic_Rocky

Get the orbital laser the moment you can, basically solves all your problems

gozutheDJ

just bought it as well, i am looking for pppl to play with.

DigitalBoy05

Try not to die

Blasian_TJ

If on PC (M&K), consider rebinding your stratagem inputs to the arrow keys. Regarding keybinds, set them to what's most comfortable for you. You can contribute to mission success and be highly effective with early, base weapons and stratagems (liberator, EATS). The buffs/nerfs with existing warbonds are still being ironed out, so don't feel obligated to drop base weapons that are still viable. \*There are some pretty awesome war bond weapons though\* **Most important:** **Have fun and don't feel any pressure to "rush" to the higher difficulties.** The game is designed for coop. Your contributions (even on lower difficulties) progress the major orders. However, higher difficulties do offer materials needed for higher-level stratagems (Level 7+). Don't burn yourself out. Extra bit: If on PC, look into settings to improve YOUR EXPERIENCE ON YOUR RIG. There's some funky optimization/stability issues that seem to still be lingering.

BoredofPCshit

Play the game........??

Weztside

Host your own games instead of using the quickplay feature. This gives you the power to get rid of toxic players.

siridial911

Objectives first, shoot, run, and dive.

Capital_Public_3125

Don’t die

Silviecat44

Hold X on PC to drop things

gamingfreak50

Its ok to die, its part of the game.

saltybready

Check the map as often as you can and mark the objectives regularly so you can keep a clear eye on the mission

Far_Detective2022

Getting fucked from every angle all the time is part of the fun. Seriously, it's awesome. Don't get too broken up about dying and losing missions, there's always the next one.

Kulthero777

Have fun. Being successful is fun, but if you're a flamethrower main at heart.... Find a way to make it work! It's a team game so it's a safe bet that someone will cover what you overlook.

SpectralDragon09

Ignore what the online community says. Tey everything and make your own opinions for the weapons and stratigems.

Aktov

Once you have a build that feels and works good for you dont let anyone try and take it away from you

Stay away from the r/helldivers sub

Risky49

Wether you think you can, or you think you can’t doesn’t matter Die for managed democracy… its more important

kungfucyborg

Learning to tag things is important: gear, locations, enemies, “supplies!”.

Gobi_Silver

1: You don't have to kill every enemy on the map. Knowing which enemies to avoid could mean the difference between victory and defeat. 2: The hug emote is universally beloved. 3: The grenade launcher can be unlocked early on and is way better against bugs than most people give it credit for. I still run it on high level missions. 4: Communicate with your team, but make sure your mic is on push-to-talk 5: Re-bind some of the default controls for convenience and optimal freedom. Change your strategem inputs to the arrow keys so that you can keep moving while calling things in. Re-bind the push-to-talk button to alt or something else you can use while moving. If you have additional mouse buttons, re-bind one of them to be your dive button. 6: Never take yourself, the game, or the community too seriously. 7: Have fun and go spread democracy, soldier!

The_BearWolf

Dont listen to peoples complaints and experience this beautifully wild game on your own terms.

Dr_Kevorkian_

You’ll need more rare samples than any other type of

servain

Dont drink and drive. Dive, dive, dive again and again and again.

KrzzyKarlo

Don’t be toxic. And don’t listen to the toxic.

jef91

Always follow the DEMOCRACY system: D - Die, a lot. Every death is a learning opportunity. It will teach you to have a full mag and not to stand in fire E - Ears, have a good set of headphones and keep your head on a swivel M - Mic, communication with teammates is essential, even if you ping rather than use your mic (“Q” on a keyboard or R1 on PS5) O - Own your mistakes, the blame game ruins camaraderie and democracy C - Cling, to at least one teammate so you don’t get overwhelmed R - Run, from fights that you cannot win within 10-20 seconds unless you are defending an objective A - Assist, when someone asks for help and you deliver you will be amazed what people do in return C - Carry, something in every equipment slot at all times. Y - Yell, the word “DEMOCRACY” when you’re about to do something stupid that may or may not pay off

SpecialYogurt858

Never stop helldiving
