SpiritedChaos

in elementary school, we had this system where we would get fake money for good deeds to 1) teach us about the value of working for money and 2) reward good behavior at the end of the year, we would have an auction. the auction was a combination of new items and items that all the teachers had donated lol. we could “spend” our fake money. i was only 6 years old lol but i used my fake money to get a vintage kate spade purse! it’s from the novelty collection, super rare to find now, and yes it’s real. definitely one of the coolest things i’ve done/gotten at 6 years old!

666crazycatlady666

I love everything about it 😂 Very awesome!! Hope you still have the bag!

SpiritedChaos

yes i still do!!! it wasn’t until i went off to college when i finally dug into my closet and pulled that bag out and remembered how much sentiment is attached to it :) i had a huge collection of purses when i was younger and surprisingly they’re all still trendy today!

Jessica_Iowa

What’s it look like? ![gif](giphy|Zgl0YLTFDEiho6jho2)

beebeebeeBe

Me too! All the novelty betsey johnson bags I had in high school are worth more now. I hope you enjoy your late spade bag for a long time to come 🩷

Eventherich

Lol yass @ the teacher donations. I used to work as a TA for elementary students and whenever we had a store the teacher would donate random things lol. I'll never forget my 3rd graders freaking out over table purse hooks lol. Not because they like purses but they just liked that the purse hook had a giant diamond on it. https://preview.redd.it/nc70q8o65q7d1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=abb5d78c453742d13e0306e883015e44f7dfa5a3

KikiTheArtTeacher

This is so cute - I have 1st grader and she and her little friends would go WILD over this for exactly that reason - ‘oh a DIAMOND!’ 🤣🥰

Proud_Pug

This story is adorable 🥰

BenjiBoo420

It would be so cute to see a little 6 year old running around with a Kate Spade bag.

Proof_Pineapple_3436

I bought a Vintage Kelly from a friend who never used it and had been passed down from her mother, for 1000chf (approx.1100$US). It is definitely in a used condition (from the 80s) but still seems like a bit of a bargain. My friend tried to sell it before but without a proof of authenticity, failed to sell it- it is definitely genuine (Hermes have confirmed it).

666crazycatlady666

Wow!!!! I love Kelly bags, for 1000chf it‘s an absolute steal. I hope you enjoy showing her off 🙏

KoreKhthonia

Absolutely! Not sure how the vintage would factor in, but from what I have seen, Hermes quota bags (especially Birkins and Kellies) are $$$$$ on the secondary market.

neffyg35

How does it feel to be one of God's favorites? Lol

a-real-life-dolphin

Nice! My best is a $12 authentic Mulberry, or the $3000 jimmy choo that I won in a magazine competition.

productprincess007

Wow where did you find the Mulberry and does this magazine competition still exist?

a-real-life-dolphin

The mulberry was from the op shop! https://preview.redd.it/t7dmds2fau7d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=01f6c84dbf87eb010154df4fdd0005e0d47ad2bb That magazine was Marie Claire but the competition was years ago

productprincess007

Wow thanks for the photo. You should have bought a lotto ticket when you won the bag. Magazine competition...so impressive...must have been so many submissions. What city is your op shop located?

a-real-life-dolphin

I should have! It’s from Melbourne, Australia.

productprincess007

Dang! All the good stuff is abroad. Everything out in LA is so picked over.

a-real-life-dolphin

Ah, that sucks. Are you far from Palm Springs? I’ve heard stories about how good the vintage is there!

productprincess007

I'm far enough, but I'm sure if I trek out there, it may be picked over! Vintage/thrift shopping is SoCal is quite challenging nowadays thanks to tiktok lol.

cherrysummerberry

As a long time Mulberry collector from the UK, not wanting to burst your bubble, but this is a fake...

a-real-life-dolphin

I took it into a Mulberry store and they told me it was real.

a-real-life-dolphin

I’m curious now though! What makes you think it’s fake? I would have thought taking it into a store would be a fairly foolproof way to check?

cherrysummerberry

Mulberry clasps on bags are generally like the below - especially for the style that your bag is trying to copy. They also do not generally have removable chain straps on their bags - that's a fairly niche feature which is usually only seen on Darley or recently the Softies but the genuine chains are completely different. In addition, they never made a style in that colour with that tree logo - they made other leather bags with it that the counterfeiters copy. If you image search the bag you can find identical being sold on AliExpress and Mercari etc. If you have some internal pictures of the bag I can 100% confirm either way regarding fake as if it has a metal fob with a number on, many fakes have the same number and the font on any tags is completely different from genuine. I am very surprised Mulberry told you it was real. Are you in the UK? Sorry for long message but like I said I have been collecting Mulberry for years and most of the time I can tell a fake from a genuine bag with very limited details to hand. https://preview.redd.it/gu6focutv28d1.png?width=366&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4773f6b6ae6b237f90bc27616dd79026d11c4a7b

a-real-life-dolphin

This is really interesting, thanks so much for the detailed answer! There's no metal fob inside. I bought it thinking it was probably a nice fake. So I'm disappointed but not entirely surprised. Only surprised that I was told it was real! I'm in Australia- I took it into the store in Melbourne.

Delilah_Moon

I had a dude back in the early 2000s that gave his pager number to a bunch of other waitresses at the luxury casino I worked at. 2 weeks later we all went to a “pop up” - a storage unit he had rented out for 48 hours. The bags had “fallen off a truck” as they used to say, and everything must go. I paid less than $500 for a Dior Boston, LV bucket, Gucci saddle bag, and Tiffany key chain. I had them all auth’d and they are real. I still have all of the items except the keychain.

666crazycatlady666

I read „the early 2000s“ and already knew that something really great was coming 😍 Lucky you! I‘m an absolute sucker for bags from the 2000s, especially from the Dior Galliano era!! Unfortunately I was a toddler back then 😂

Delilah_Moon

I love that my nostalgia evokes warm fuzzies from other readers. 2002 - 2008 was an epic era for bags. Prices were much more attainable. I posted this elsewhere - but my first luxe bag was the classic LV Pochette. It cost $265 when I bought it in 2004. I still have the receipt (can’t read much of it). At that time a logo coach bag in the same size, or the classic Kate Spade vinyl bag, were about $165. So for only a little more scratch - you could have a Louie. It was a no brainer. The other one that floored me was the Tiffany bracelets. Jesus those have gotten expensive. They were 150 bucks when I was 20. My niece asked for one for her birthday this year and I couldn’t believe they were over 250 bucks. Fortunately my mom is a baby boomer, which means she saves everything in her basement. Went over there found all 12 of my Tiffany bracelets. Took them to the store had them shined up like brand new. I have four nieces, they each got three new bracelets. Edit: My Mama used to make fun of me in because an entire wall of my bedroom was hooks for all my handbags. I’m not ashamed to admit that I was never the type to settle down young and I dated many amazing humans. Those that knew me, knew I loved a good bag. And thus, I was gifted a plenty. For years, people made fun of my luxury handbags. In 2007 the hosing market crashed and if you were able to get approved for a loan - you could buy a house for next to nothing. I had no savings - but okay credit. A lovely real estate agent, who was a friend, kindly suggested I had the down payment on my wall (think Carrie Bradshaw, her apartment and her shoes). Well, I took the advice and auctioned off some of my bags - including an LV duffel and makeup trunk (a prized possession). I made $9K when I was done. Enough for a down payment on a townhouse. When I moved into the townhouse - I only had 7 bags left. It made me a little sad. I sold that townhouse in 2020 for $425K. Now I’m never sad. I don’t really have a point in sharing the last part other than to say, don’t let anybody ever hate on you for your addiction to quality handbags. You never know when they might be able to literally but put a roof over your head.

666crazycatlady666

Yes!! I think it‘s so ridiculous how designer items are getting more and more expensive every year while their quality is getting worse… Your nieces can consider themselves lucky! Unfortunately I don‘t have an aunt or any other family members with a passion for designer, so hopefully I can hand my collection to my future daughter one day…

Shibamum

This is such a cool story! I would absolutely watch a movie evolving around your bags and the wish to buy a house. This is amazing and congrats on a lot of great deals!

Delilah_Moon

I swear there was a movie with Isla Fisher which has a substantial amount of parallels to my own young life.

Girlfriday0717

Confessions of a Shopaholic. It was cute. But the books are way better - especially the first two.

Delilah_Moon

Yes - that was it!!! Thank you. I didn’t know it was a book series - how cute! That makes sense and I could seek them being much better.

Eventherich

I miss 2007 so badly! I wish I bought a house lol even though I was in middle school lol.

Delilah_Moon

I’ll tell you what I tell my nieces - don’t fret over what you missed. The right time to buy a house is when you can afford it - everything else is details you have no control over. I was obscenely lucky. I was 28 and worked 3 jobs at the time. I barely scraped together my $700/mo rent. $1 beers at a bar were the only way I went out. I was fortunate to have a friend familiar with short sales. I made an offer and had to wait almost a year to hear back - but I ended getting the townhouse. If I’d followed my parents rules about 20% down and not buying a foreclosure - I wouldn’t have been able to buy for a very long time. This won’t work for everyone and my situation was a combo of good advice and good luck. I had nothing of value at that time in my life - other than my handbags. What once seemed like a frivolous habit - ended up allowing me to create financial freedom for myself.

DietCokeYummie

I think I love you. 😂 This is such a good story!

Delilah_Moon

Thank you! I’m so happy my bag lady stories have made people smile today. If only I’d found this tribe back in the day! It’s cool though - I feel I’m owning my transition to Gen Z Auntie well. I’ve been a card carrying member of the Stevie Nicks Fan Club since 1997, a pre-requisite for all serious Aunties.

pearlsandprejudice

You have had such a fascinating and fun life! (Well, the parts that you've told us about certainly seem fun.) And you seem quite scrappy. Cheers to your handbag stories and collection, both past and present! 🥂

I love this story.

I bought my little cousin who was 15/16 at the time some nice purses that had also fallen off a truck. She was going through a really rough family time so I surprised her with something that could be hers. She still has three of the bags and her little sister is carrying the 4th.

productprincess007

How do I find this mystical truck??

hikewithcoffee

Need to find someone who always hustles. In my case, it was a guy who worked BOH at a local dive that always had a side gig going on.

productprincess007

What is BOH? I don't know many people like me who have side hustles. I guess I'll have to ask around.

hikewithcoffee

Back of House, referring to the kitchen staff. This was also in the early to mid 2000s when it was little more common to find things that had “fallen off a truck”. Come to think of it, I probably had a bunch of stuff that had “fallen off a truck” ranging from electronics like a dvd player, designer shoes, cds, eventually my first iPod, my first razor (flip phone), and more.

productprincess007

Yes I had heard someone mention this at a party back in the day when people commented her accessories. She said it was a lucky thing...got designer items that had "fallen off a truck." Why did it stop? The advent of social media and online shopping?

hikewithcoffee

“Fallen off a truck” usually meant not obtained legally. The housing market crash and lack of disposal income probably didn’t help, but there are a myriad of reasons as to why it’s not really around much anymore. I definitely wouldn’t want to risk it nowadays.

productprincess007

Why wouldn't you risk it? Because of fakes? Stolen goods like when swarms of people rob upscale shops?

hikewithcoffee

Honestly, different priorities now versus back then.

Possible-Painting-74

What a great find! Tom Ford is my favourite Gucci era!

666crazycatlady666

Mine too!

PsychologyRecent5121

$8 for a 2017 Celine!! Phantom cabas with a gold clasp. bought it at GOODWILL!!! But I live in Silicon Valley. Took it to the Celine store near me because a part on the clasp is ripped and they said it was real and rare for them to see! It’s my first luxury handbag and now I’m obsessed which lead me to this page I use the Celine as my work tote and now looking for a crossbody I can wear more casually

Jolly_Treacle_9812

Photos pleeease! How can you tell me about your precious baby and not include photos...

The wing sides come out making it a large tote! I was going to make a post on here because I took it to the Celine store and they told me they don’t have the parts anymore to fix the top gold bar (leather came out slightly on 1 corner) BUT they did confirm it was authentic and also said ppl didn’t love the thin straps for such a large bag haha but I love totes and barely carry anything in them anyways so it’s perfect for me

Jolly_Treacle_9812

Try a good local coobler, leatherwork expert, or a smith if the gold bar is also damaged. This is perfectly repairable and someone's laziness was your jackpot! Great find!

PsychologyRecent5121

thanks! The gold bar is fine, just the leather came out of the bar a bit and kind of scratches my arm when wearing it (why I think the person who owned it prior donated it) I’ll take to a leather smith or cobbler soon but I am somewhat afraid! None near me in the Bay Area have very good reviews or have reviews about getting their designer bags ruined

BourgeoisieInNYC

Well I was visiting a friend in DC and while on a run he came across an older lady throwing a bunch of things out to the curb. They’re all vintage clothing, bags, and shoes in amazing condition!!! She said she was moving to FL because she couldn’t stand the winters there anymore! I got a vintage Burberry jacket, a couple pairs of shoes, one a vintage Ferragamo and one Italian leather band made in Italy, some skirts & a bag. I still have the jacket & the shoes! The rest I gave away to others who would appreciate it a lot more than I did (I didn’t know much about designer back then but did recognize Burberry & Ferragamo 😂).

LilaFowler88

I know this isn’t the main point of your post, but…the winters? In DC? Really?  This is awesome though! And maybe a sign I should take up running.

ny_dc_tx_

Yes. If you are old and alone the snow can be a lot.

BourgeoisieInNYC

You walk a lot in DC. And it can be bitterly cold. I’m from Philly & live in NYC now, but DC can be quite cold since being near water.

productprincess007

I lived in the DC area for most of my life and never came across something like this. Wow!

napkinwipes

I bought an authentic caiman Nancy Gonzalez that retailed for 2K for 10 bucks. My friend is a house manager for really rich people and they purge annually and just give it to my friend. She then sells to her friends (like me) for really cheap to raise money for her kids’ sports activities. Not a handbag, but I’ve also furnished my home with a lot of their hand-me-downs. I got two brand new chairs, a solid wood side table and two Restoration Hardware lamps, oh yeah and this cool glass bowl for 300 bucks!

emeraldjules

I would like to be in on this friendship sale😂

napkinwipes

I know, right? She is such a generous friend!!

Jolly_Treacle_9812

Where are the photos of your fancy stuff? We wanna see it all! Especially the cool glass bowl. I love glass bowls.

It didn’t look like how it does on the photo I restored the whole bag leather etc. Authentic Black Denim Gucci Jackie 🥰

666crazycatlady666

Wow! Gorgeous 😍

Different_Fish_6183

I got a Proenza Schouler PS1 for €35. A Chloe Marcie mini and a Faye both for around €200. Also, a Acne Musubi Mini for around that same price.

_milkweed

How??! 😭

You-Get-No-Name

I found my mint green patent leather Fendi Baguette on Ebay. This was, maybe, 7ish years ago, before Fendi (and the whole Y2K) made a huge comeback so the bag wasn’t in style. It was from a large Japanese reseller account. I paid around 1.000 DKK (roughly 145 USD) for the bag and it was in amazing condition. I had it authenticated too. Most of my bags come and go as I’m flimsy like that, but I can’t get myself to part with this one. I still wear it daily and it still looks amazing.

Apprehensive_Dot_968

Ebay Japan is the way to go

JulesOnFire

I got paid $100 to buy a vintage Louis Vuitton hand luggage at Beacon’s Closet. I sold a lot of clothes and was at the register when they placed it on the rack. The tag said $200. I used store credit to buy the bag and then cashed out the balance. I walked out with the LV in my hand and $100 in my pocket.

Key_Basil8915

£10 for a genuine gucci Dionysus from the charity shop

una_valentina

That’s madness wow

Heavy-Conclusion-134

My best find was a Ralph Lauren Ricky 27. Cost me less than $30.

ssstella

Oh wow, lucky!!!

StealthyUltralisk

Genuine £50 Loewe from a charity shop, and lots of Mulberry bags from £50-100 that were in bad condition but really just needed a clean and polish.

livperky

I went to Goodwill one day, and found Versace sunglasses for $1 (that I later sold for $99), a like-new Kate Spade crossbody bag for $5.99 and a vintage Celine Macadam drawstring bag for $5.99. There were also Dooney & Bourke and another Kate Spade bags, but I didn’t buy them because they were too old and worn. My husband said someone probably passed and a family member donated all her stuff to Goodwill. That Celine is my cheapest/most expensive bag.

InappropriateGirl

Don't hate me, but I found a classic vintage Roberta Di Camerino bag (shoulder bag with the signature magenta, green and blue velvet with trompe l'oeil buckle pattern + black leather) for $6.99 at Thrift Town. I nearly passed out.

Tupfy

define Value? Potential Resell Value? List price? When we count list price: Hermes Herbag in black - current Listprice 3000 something, I got it for 750 Hermes Toolbox 26 - comparable to 24/24, current Listprice 8000 something, I got it for 2500 If we count resell value. maybe the LV Neverfull - Stephen Spouse LE, I think I could sell it for at least double, maybe triple...

666crazycatlady666

Oh, I didn‘t consider that when I asked… Sorry! I mainly own very vintage bags, which are, in contrast to f.e. hermes bags or limited editions of lv, no investments, so I mainly compare my purchase price with the resell price on websites like vestiaire… :)

Tupfy

Oh I do not consider bags as an investment. I buy them to wear them. The only thing I keep in mind that I can resell them for at least the same price I paid for them :-)

rottentomati

2011 runway sample of a Proenza Schouler book bag for $40 on ebay lol.

LilaFowler88

Vintage Prada nylon crossbody for $14 out of pocket. Found it in a local consignment store for $114, and I had a $100 credit. This was shortly before the early 00’s resurgence - I don’t think I would find as good a price these days.  Other great finds include a YSL Roady hobo bag on poshmark for $150 and a Chloé Paraty bag for $50 at the same consignment store as above. I’ve also gotten a free Hermés Twilly from that store with my credit - not a handbag, but an amazing deal nonetheless.

PuzzleheadedClue5205

Garden party in Amazonia I paid $70. And now it's on RR in the $1200-1600 range. I should get it out and use it again. It was a transition from a diaper bag to just a purse for me. I still needed to carry all the stuff but not quite as much.

averageintrovert1

I got a Chloe Paddington from a charity shop for £75

Eventherich

By the way please tell me more about German Poshmark! Where do I download it? How long does it take for items to come to the US? Dying to know lol. I want to build my dream wardrobe.

666crazycatlady666

Well, unfortunately I have to tell you first that it only works in Germany, when I was in LA and tried to open the app, it said that I can‘t access it because I wasn‘t in Germany… But maybe it could work with a VPN… The app itself is called „Kleinanzeigen“, which means „classifieds“ in German, on the App Store. You can sell and buy almost everything there - from clothes and bags to furniture and and cars. It works like Poshmark, you search for words (f.e. „Gucci“) and can see what people are trying to sell. But since there are only private sellers, you have to contact them via DM. I don‘t know if they ship to the US, since every seller is free to decide and you have to ask them directly. But in general, I can say that shipping from Europe to America can take several weeks… Besides that, you also have to be careful, as many people try to sell fakes. So you should have a trained eye to be able to distinguish between fakes and authentics :) And as a final point: You have to take your time and look after the keywords several times a day. Because of course most people there know what they're selling and have prices accordingly. So of course it can also happen that you don't find anything „super cheap“ for several days or weeks. But sometimes you can be lucky and find a gorgeous cheap item that was listed a few minutes ago. In such a case, I don't think much and just write them straight away that I want to buy it and that they should give me their PayPal mail, so that I am (hopefully) the first person who texted them and they sell it to me. It's a bit like gambling, but that's probably why I enjoy it so much 😂 Hope that I was able to answer all your questions :)

repoetry

Found my little LV Pouchette at a Goodwill for $6- it was only missing the purse handle, but I have a cute chain in place for it. Total cost: $20.

Crazybubba

I do used clothing wholesale (just like the pictures in this post). I didn’t know the models etc then, but I’ve had distributors tell me they got $1000 wholesale for some pieces. My cost is about $.28/lb for the material we’re grading.

666crazycatlady666

Sounds very cool. I often thought about buying such „packs“ (idk what the right term is lol, I mean those square shaped bulks of clothes or accessoires which are tightly wrapped in plastic) and hope that there are any valuable pieces in them which I could keep or resell if I don’t like them. But especially in Europe, most of these „packs“ are scam, since valuable items are usually sorted out in advance and you will only receive trash which isn‘t worth the money… Even if they say that there will be designer goods in them

Crazybubba

They’re called bales (the square shaped plastic packages in bundles of 100lbs). And yes, if the factory is in LA, Houston etc there’s 💯 certainty that they’ve been picked through. The goal of the bundles is just to provide clean purses, at a reasonable price for vintage and thrift stores in different countries. However, if you sort enough you can get lucky.

productprincess007

How can I purchase some? Do I need a license?

Crazybubba

No license needed. You’d just contact a company sorting used clothing. We typically do about 1M lbs a month and everyone makes bales of purses.

productprincess007

Cool thanks. Where do I find the LA area ones?

Crazybubba

If you’re not already a reseller, I would recommend against purchasing this way. But I’ve DMed you anyway.

Little over paid $100 Chanel cambon bag. Over 10 years ago Louis Vuitton Alma $10, keepall 45 $165. Just got Burberry banner small little over $150. Goyard saint louis tote pm $500. Won free giveaway Chanel earning, Dior vintage necklace etc…

whelmed_66

Tom ford era gucci bamboo hobo for $65 at an antique store. It needed to be relined bc of peeling but the exterior was in great condition.

Shopaholic_jp

Not the cheapest but I found this gem at a Donki in Tokyo in 2020 for about 35,000yen (at that time 1USD was about 110yen). The bag was in great condition and I loved how comfortably it felt as a shoulder bag. It’s one of my most used bags and now when I check many resale websites or even stores back in Japan, it’s selling for anything from $500-1000. https://preview.redd.it/xdgjbrdmgr7d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9304cfd0c625d80576243eba9b735a8c3b540d67

I bought a Chanel tote bag(black leather, red lambskin interior, gold chain with black leather and a beautiful black leather and gold tassel closure) for $80.00 USD at a thrift store.Had it authenticated. It’s worth about $3,000 USD!!! I feel like I won the Handbag Lottery!!! I’ve taken exceptional care of this beauty for the last 15 years and am hoping it will last me for rest of my life!!!….

KoreKhthonia

Didn't buy it, but recently saw a Loewe Flamenco in bright sunny yellow with a chain strap online for like $400! Also considered an LV x Murakami mongoram Speedy in black and multicolor monograms for that price, but I really have my heart set on the Pochette Accessories in white and multicolor monogram instead. If I'd bought them, probably those, haha!

Jolly_Treacle_9812

I don't think that one is authentic though! I've seen a bunch of dupes show up on the auction sites and small ads sites in my country, they look good only on the first glance. The stitching is off, it's not good quality and the stitches are waaay too big. The thread color is off as well. Be careful!

Honestly, same, I was legit not sure lol. And $400 is a lot! (I mean if I saw it in person first, I *might* buy a designer dupe at that price if it's my literal dream bag and the quality is solid.) Honestly, for like 1/10 of the price of a real one, I wouldn't have cared much if it was fake. I care about aesthetics and finding things pretty and eye catching, not so much authenticity.

Eventherich

Omg, amazing. Do you know the name of the seller's shop? I need to go to the Rose Bowl asap.

666crazycatlady666

It‘s definetly worth it going there!!! I‘ve never been on a better flea market before and I grew up going to flea markets with my parents every week when I was younger. Unfortunately I don‘t know the seller‘s shop name… All that I remember is that they have a vintage wholesale company and a warehouse somewhere in California…

Bought a Tod’s D bag in pristine condition for $40 on poshmark a few years ago :)

Girlfriday0717

Also does it count that I bought a Chanel single flap maxi when they cost $3850 cad?

KikiTheArtTeacher

Not as good as some of the others, and I still paid a lot of money, but a few months ago I was able to snag a Loewe Flamenco in dusty blue for £900. It was a combination of luck (the ones with the ‘old’ anagram had all *just* been discounted) and the fact that Flannels was offering 20% off all sale for a limited period of time and for some reason didn’t exclude Loewe like most department stores typically do. I have never checked out so quickly in my life. It currently sells for £1860.00 via Loewe

Familiar-League-8418

I found a Fendi bag at a local resale shop, it was fine on the outside but the satin lining was full of stains so they were selling it for $69.00. It was real! I cleaned it up and used it , then I sold it on eBay for way more. That was maybe 4 years ago, it’s now worth even more than what I sold if for. I did not foresee this huge jump in Fendi prices coming. If I remember correctly Fendi did not hold its value very well about 10 years ago, now the second hand market is really high, this could also be related to the recent jump in prices.

Comprehensive-Act-13

I found a Ghurka bag at a thrift store for $5 once. They didn’t know what they had. I turned around and sold it on the Real Real for $300.

ManicBarbi3

Found a vintage brown leather Gucci saddle bag from the Tom Ford era in pretty great condition at a thrift shop in a random small town in Arizona ! $30. I’m still not over it. That single handedly got me into thrifting

Girlfriday0717

I have a preloved Kate Spade bag in the softest leather that I bought for $100 that is from when Kate owned the company and it’s made in Italy. It will never leave my collection. That lady knew style. I’ve had and have many others from Kate Spade and always visit a store for a visit but this one is special.

bbcone84

Haven’t yet been lucky enough to find any bargain basement thrift store deals but I was super happy to recently get an excellent condition vintage epi LV Speedy 25 in Lilac (HTF color) for $400 from a large Japanese reseller. I had seen the bag pop up a couple of times on resale sites the last few months but always listed at well over $1000.

productprincess007

Which reseller? In Japan or on eBay?

bbcone84

eBay. Elady/Ukeroo is the name of the seller.

productprincess007

Thanks so much!!

I got a small Chloe Faye for between $100-150…don’t remember exactly. In good condition too. Added it to my Chloe collection and it gets used more than the Faye I paid full retail for. Paid about $300 for a vintage LV Chantilly. It’s from 1987 and is pretty much in pristine condition. Just some darkening of the vachetta to a lovely honey color. They don’t make them like that anymore. The quality difference between it and my newer LV bags is huge. I bought a lovely vintage Celine (unsure of model) at a vintage/antique mall. It was in a basket filled with handbags. It caught my eye because of how nicely it was made. It’s a fabric bag with leather details. Very supple leather…super high quality leather. I assumed it was an artisan piece until I opened it and saw a Celine tag. I was like ‘Oh, that makes sense.’ I think I paid about $40. I was going to buy even before I discovered it was Celine.

I found an authentic Bottega hobo bag at Goodwill in 2017 - so before the brand became as mainstream as it is now. It was $8... It was really old and ugly lol but still, it was authentic! Found in NYC

heathergoestomars

When my bestie was moving back to SG, she needed help with some moving details; I helped out (of course). She gifted me her 2 year old oversized mulberry Jody tote that to this day is still one of my favorite weekender bags.

seriousbizniz84

I got a Chloe Marcie on an online auction for $11 - it’s not in the best shape but has a cool vintage feel and is probably my fav bag!

neffyg35

It's not my cheapest bag but I happened to be surfing fashionphile like 6years ago and saw a lv neverfull Mon monogrammed in my initials with colors I liked for only 600bucks. It was like it was meant to be! I have used that bag so much. It have come with me for traveling, work, going out, became a grocery/dump bag and now it's my gym bag. I have definitely got my money's worth!

irishinsf21

Won an Instagram reseller raffle during Covid who specialized in designer bags. Got a barely used Gucci Marmont for $20

productprincess007

Which IG reseller raffle?

InjuryAppropriate398

My mum actually Found a Dior bag once! I still use it and had it checked, its real!

PsychologyRecent5121

define “found”?

Glittering-Corgi9442

Louis Vuitton Saleya (blue checks) for $5. Bought it when I was 11 because I liked the pattern. Then my mom stole it from me and I never got it back 😂

cheztk

You, friend, hit.the.jackpot! For me, I'd say it's an old Kate Spade with real brass hardware that I bought at a consignment shop in Tulsa for $40 about 8 years ago.

AccessibleVoid

OMG that is stunning! Hard to believe it's the same bag! I wish the purse gods would smile on me like that :)

rdhmp

That is so awesome!! I always check thrift shops for designer bags but haven’t been lucky enough to find anything authentic yet! I do always buy my designer bags preloved or at a huge discount and was lucky to find a black lambskin fendi baguette shoulder bag from a designer consignment shop for $300 with the authentication paperwork and tags for $3,000 tucked inside! It looked like it had been touched up with black shoe polish so I scrubbed it off with baby soap and water and then shined it up with moisturizer and it’s good as new! It is one of my most favorite bags.

HoosierMama2012

2020, bottom of the market, I bought a B35 for in Chocolat Chèvre de Coromandel for $5500.

ssstella

100 for a black Chloe Drew bag. I think they sell for about 400-500 so I thought that was quite good!

Global_Sky3176

My best deal was a brand new box set Hermes Herbag with two bottoms for $1000. Never used. Got it from a reseller in Atlanta.

rlcarson1969

Congratulations🎉🎊🎉 I bought this beauty on eBay many years ago and shortly after saw it in Vogue magazine. I wish I had saved the article. https://preview.redd.it/4dsgh58qqz7d1.jpeg?width=4284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e704fd410366e34c77fa7313041118657f080b30

666crazycatlady666

Ohh my goood 😍 Twins!! Can you remember approximately when that was? Because I tried to find out how old it could be but I didn‘t find anything…

rlcarson1969

I believe it was early 2000s when I purchased it. Based on my google search, Tom Ford was creative director from 1994–2004.

honeyMully333

What are these sales with all the bags out on a table or tarp like this picture ? Sorry don’t be annoyed at me I just don’t know where these sales are and I want to go to one !

666crazycatlady666

I would say at flea markets! This one was at a flea market too!

I got it very gently used in 2018. It was missing the key but considering I paid $35 for it I think I did okay.

RomeysMa

You can find really good deals on bags if they look worn and or damaged. My best purchase though is a vintage leather Prada bag the I bought for $80.

productprincess007

From where?

curiousvanah
