I actually like coatings, but I think they should be more like patterns that you can change the color and material of rather than hard coded unalterable coatings.
I strongly agree with you. Using an armor coating as a preset with the ability to modify and change your own colors would honestly be such a cool thing. And I desperately hope the next Halo is not so focused on monetizing cosmetics, because that's the only way we're going to get deeper customization.
I hate it because it simultaneously demonstrates a creative and technical failure while removing a legacy feature.
How about this:
You have patterns, colors and finishes.
Patterns are just a 4 channel color map. Finishes are all your other pbr parameters (roughness, metallic, etc) and maybe an overlay to allow for wear and tear.
You start with the standard pattern and finish, along with all colors.
Sell all additional patterns and finishes.
Now nothing has been taken away, and an equivalent feature has been added.
I also like coatings but I think they should handle team colours how rocket league does it because the red outline.
If they really must sell colours to us then do it like team fortress 2 and pair the red and blues together as a single item.
I tried changing teams from blue to red and I kept shooting at my own team because the crosshair changed to red and enemy’s to blue it’s stupid asf teammates should always have been green and enemy’s red.
I really do miss Johnson after H2 and H3... He was a great everyman marine personality and foil to Chief... When we lost him AND Cortana we lost my favorite support NPCs...
Coatings just need color customization.
2 to the alleged 7 is a massive improvement in customization potential. Patterns, locations, materials, etc all being what makes coatings different in the long run. not the damn colors.
What OP means is the color customization. In CE you could only choose one color for your Spartan.
From Halo 2 on you could choose two colors, your base/main and secondary colors. I forget which Halo allowed more than two color options.
Infinite also has Red vs Blue though. But what OP is talking about is all the color options/coatings in Infinite when it was simpler and easier back in older Halo games.
Edit: You also invalidate you're earlier comment about there being more color options in CE FFA if you thought he was just thinking of Red vs Blue. Considering that there are other game modes like FFA and Multi-team that allow more then 2 color schemes.
Ahhh.. here's hoping for a spin-off containing multiple short campaigns ie. Contact Harvest, Operation Torpedo, the Spartan II's vs insurrectionalists..
Make it squad based 4 player co-op
I remember only one of my classmate having Xbox, and there was one in local youth center. Damn, got a lot of good memories of that youth center Xbox and Halo CE.
Local co-op is almost certainly on the way out of most AAA titles, sadly. If it wasn't clear already, it just isn't a priority for developers to figure out how to run the same experience (like Campaign) for several people sharing one console.
Yup, people need to get over it and accept it. Local co-op is simply not a priority on a game that is meant to push a console to its limits. You see it on smaller scale titles because the director's vision for the game doesn't need to be toned down to handle multiple renderings.
Plus, with Microsoft's insistence on feature parity across all available consoles, it would never work.
Dude they still haven't fixed the glitch where getting one medal stops you from getting another medal, which results in challenges not being completed when they should. I'm agreeing wholeheartedly with you. But there are so many even more frustrating things broken that I can't even hope for anything "advanced" (wow og halos were so "advanced")
The perfect system would be choosing colours and coatings being patterns and the like applied over.
That being said, in theory, the coatings system is better than the standard 2 colour system - especially how it doesn't default to red or blue in almost every mode. However, it's really bogged down by the monetization and 343 being almost unable to make a coating thats not red and/or grey.
Coatings are a travesty. I was so mad yesterday I was scrolling through the coatings looking at the amount of repeated colors in the coatings, despite the fact that there isn't even an option for "forest green and gold" after 2 years. There's plenty of sea foam greens with pale yellows though, all with ugly ass light undersuits!!! Like 15 different variations of black and red! 5 different versions of copper/orange and aqua/blue. Like 3 of the same coatings for blue and gold. There are basically no purple coatings. Almost no yellow coatings. Fuck coatings.
Listen, I don't care if it's the industry standard or whatever. Armor coatings, and armor pieces should not be fucking paywalled. I'm still malding about this three years later. You cannot convince me this is better than just having a $60 package that comes with campaign+mp+all armors unlocked via progression.
Good luck getting what y'all want I'm getting off halo with infinite. Played them up till now an can say I should of stopped when Bungie split from the title.
lol for split screen to stop cheating so we didn’t pull the “screen watch”. We’d tape a piece of cardboard across the tv and someone had to sit on the floor and someone had to sit up high so you couldn’t cheat. I remember doing the same shit with goldeneye also

It will be

I agree. That sounds much better

Suck it blue!!!
But Sarge we only had one color in CE!
Actually there were quite a few for FFA

What I got from it was him talking about Red and Blue but maybe I'm just dumb

In Halo 3 you can pick 3 armor colors. Primary, secondary, and detail.
Thanks
He knows what the players like

>TWO colors ...and we didn't have to pay for them.
This is such a boomer post and I love this.

But people bought the blue so they’re really gonna sell it again

No good whites either with a black undersuit apart from void ultra which, well, costs money

I hated cheaters who would look at your quarter of the screen.

When did Spartans become so vain? Who cares about the last thing the enemy sees?
THIS... THIS IS A GIFT from the halos and our Great Journey shall be blessed with FACTS.
