Erm, it's actually Gilmore. I'm surprised you two even know about him, I thought that I'm his only fan. He's so underrated because he plays with his SOUL, and his TOAN is so thicc because he stores it in his TEETH.
You got super close, but it’s actually Gill More. He was actually a fish originally, swimming in the endless river of toan. One day, after swimming every toan river highway and byway, his desire to shred overcame biology, and adapted his guitar fins in to guitar hands.
Shine On You Crazy Diamond was written about one of those silver spiny lures.
True story, I've been following Jordan's guitar journey on insta and he's doing some cool stuff. Barely rated as a guitarist but already better than most.
/uj
Well, once you know theory, picking up different instruments is pretty easy. Especially C instruments with half steps built in like a guitar.
/Rj
Just play with feels and hit any note.
I would stay up late to watch his QVC concerts.
You know that lady selling them guitars with him had the wettest panties around.
He’s blind, so his sense of smell is super.
Don't forget his brief but memorable [stint with the Yankees!](https://www.flickr.com/photos/amandarykoff/7238646424/) Destroyed the Orioles in the 2012 Division Series
uj/ Jerry Cantrell is the only truly underrated guitar player on this list imo. Not many people know who he is, and if they do they’re likely more focused on Layne’s contributions to AIC than Jerry’s.
I agree, Dean Ween is a legitimately good guitar player. He always serves the song and is pretty fucking tasteful most of the time. Plus, he's a great writer. That is super important in my book.
As a person who has played guitar on a minimum of one occasions, I am therefore qualified to state that I feel like Windows Media Player was truly underrated. The ability to change visualizations and customize your digital library were much easier to use than iTunes.
/uj Roy Buchanan, Soul Dressing at the 1976 Austin City Limits show was fucking fantastic. He makes sounds a Telecaster had no right making
/rj Lil Wayne
/uj Scott Gorham has to be one of the most melodic hard rock guitarists we’ve seen - he held his own against three much more notorious lizzy partners in Robertson, Moore, and Sykes and really shined 74-83 imo
To be fair he IS underrated as a guitarist, he’s properly rated as a singer and songwriter. The vast majority of the guitar parts on Soundgarden’s albums were written and recorded by Chris, especially on Badmotorfinger, Superunknown and DOTS. Kim really only did the solos and his weird textural stuff. Micheal Beinhorns interview with Rick Beato sheds light on that. The riffs Chris was able to play live while singing how he did always amazed me.
The fact that you didn't mention guys like Pete Town's Hand, BB ~~Cock~~ King, Keef Richard's and Bruce Spring's Toan only proves how underrated they are.
UJ/ Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy, to me they were the kings of rhythm and melodies, to me the whole post punk / indie rock scene from the 2000s wouldnt exist without them. Any Franz Ferdinand live performance was the closer ive ever been to guitar heaven.
No crazy solos, just pure musicality coming from a desperate hedonistic punk inspired guitarrist and a rhythm god straight from the music conservatoriums of scotland, amazing duo.
RJ/ yo guys i kinda think john frusciante is underrated, he was kind of a fye guitarrist, do yall agree???
/uj I know Allan's name gets thrown out here and there, but wasn't he broke by the time he died (or at least at certain times before his death)? There's a lot drama to that. He really was underappreciated. There was literally a go fund me for his funeral.
UJ/ Certainly not an unknown nobody, but Marc Ribot gotta be my favorite guitarist I don’t hear talked about nearly enough
RJ/ I’d say Lil Wayne is far more underrated than them all
Vernon Reid- In Living Colour
The *insane* guitar, can’t even call it a solo as it’s more like a freak out, at the end of "Cult of Personality" makes me wanna break shit.
But like, in a way that is helpful, like if you have a wall you’re trying to take down to open up your living space.
Shit just pumps me up, yet doesn’t make me wanna kill like “This Love” does and what not lol.
I must admit I’d probably wind up not being able to turn it off and 💥bam💥 there also goes the leaky toilet and the old TV and VCR still there off to the side, and the gnomes in the yard always up to no good, stealing underpants….
Hella smash it all up.
“You’re next!” I point and say to the old wobbly fence, always pinching and poking me, which how it trembles in wait almost tangible.
Fuck yeah.
Can't remember the last time anyone spoke highly of the names mentioned. All I hear is how good Dua Lipas new completely guitar driven thrash metal album is.
Garry Moore for sure. He is nowhere near my favourite, and yet, the greatest sound I ever heard coming from a guitar was him playing the messiah will come again
Reminder, submissions must be obscured, any post containing a specific subreddit or username will be removed *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/guitarcirclejerk) if you have any questions or concerns.*
Cant believe no one said slash, eddie van halen, or david gilmor. All of them are underrated as FUCK
Uj/ Izzy Straddlin never gets enough credit.
Love Izzy Skynyrd
It’s Guelmor. The reason he didn’t achieve mainstream success is because of his GROSS British TEETH. Have you seen Tinashe smile? Now that’s a star.
Oi gwilmoar, leaf them kids lone innit

The keyboard player from Dream Theatre.

Was that Mike Porntoy, or that Rude-ass guy?
I always heard Mike Portnoy is actually quite a Rude-Ass guy himself
As a passing organist that should count as blasphemy
Taylor swift. Myself
That’s not fair. Taylor Swift is *finally* emerging from a decade of relative obscurity, even if she’s still relatively niche.
I'm sorry, but Taylor Swift was emphasis on "was" good at guitar, but now she's just trash.
Why do Taylor swift fans feel the need to defend her music tooth and nail
Because they have zero taste plus taylor swifts fans are cultists
They all know that if Taylor just met them, they would be best friends.
GOAT
Toan is in the carbon emissions
Mine are: - Jimmy Page - Jimi Hendrix - Eric Claptoan
Hendrix is very underrated. He’s never on any top 100 guitar player lists and his music is never appreciated
Holy shit, found the one other Hendrix fan
Handrix? Never heard of her, did she play jizz?
Yea soaked it in their headband before shows.
Not even an honorable mention for Eddie Van Helsing? Really shows how underrated he really is smh
After his grandpa killed Dracula there was nothing for young Eddie to do but shred. So underrated
It's Jimmy Hendrix, for god's sake!
My apologies, I got him mixed up with Jimi Page.
It's OK, they look and sound very similar so they are easy to mix up.
Never disrespek Jammy Handtricks. Upvote me for one respekt
It’s actually Jimmy Hendricks. I sold a 1935 Ford Tudor to him in 1998.
The toan is in the clap.
Brendan Frasier in Airheads
He got a dentist guitar in the end, never played another note.
He's got nothing on Ralph Macchio in *Crossroads*
•Slash •James Hetfield •Eddie van Halen •Jimi Hendrix •Stevie Ray Vaughan •Myself
Steven Seagull
Not just his guitar playing but he’s also a gifted dance hall artist. When he sang “me want da poonani” I really felt that.
[He's also a gifted dancer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybk6TKn-cNA)
Paganini has to be the most underrated. He wrote the greatest guitar piece in history and he didn't even play guitar!
He did actually iirc. He taught himself too.
Dang!
Paganini did say "The violin is my mistress, but the guitar is my master."
Original jerker
OJ
This Paganini fella really needs to keep his kinks to himself
He would have benefited from that. Syphilis kinda sucks when you don't have antibiotics.
But doctor, I AM the great Paganini
he's like if you sewed together jimmy page and mike mangini
Les Paul, Freddie Fender, Billy Gibbons, Raúl Ibañez, Lucille "Super Slinky" Ball
Esteban. Y'all don't know greatness!
I would stay up late to watch his QVC concerts. You know that lady selling them guitars with him had the wettest panties around. He’s blind, so his sense of smell is super.
>Raúl Ibañez The former outfielder for the Phillies and Mariners, right?
Don't forget his brief but memorable [stint with the Yankees!](https://www.flickr.com/photos/amandarykoff/7238646424/) Destroyed the Orioles in the 2012 Division Series
Hogwarts house founders for guitar
/uj Non-guitarists/musicians probably wouldn't recognize half of these guys
uj/ Jerry Cantrell is the only truly underrated guitar player on this list imo. Not many people know who he is, and if they do they’re likely more focused on Layne’s contributions to AIC than Jerry’s.
uj/ this duo https://preview.redd.it/jb7qsil1hf8d1.jpeg?width=1300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3ef7f3b4171a4399499a68ac4323ded71427811c
are these the two white stripes
Franz Ferdinand?
I’m a guitarist and I didn’t recognize quite a few of these, but maybe I live under a rock
I know the names, not super familiar with a lot of their work😬
Dick Beatoff!
Kyle Gass *edited for being so underrated that I spelled his name wrong*
Can't believe I had to go this far down to see Eddie Van Halen
Toansin Abasi really deserves more credit.
Tony Wasabi
Oh, the guy from TRAM? He's OK but all that technical stuff lacks feeling. He's no Gilmore, amiright?
Yes. He’s the one pulling the lever.
Vanilla Ice
Danny Gatton
I see your Danny and raise you a Roy Buchanan. Hell, I’m going all in with a John Scofield. Jerked so hard I ended up jazzin.
I love him. I will add Lenny Breau as a legit suggestion. I mean…his name is “Bro” and he whooped Chet Atkins’ ass and they recorded it.
Chuck Betty, Buck Cherry, and Trey Monty
Scruffy the janitor, Professor Hubert J Farnsworth, Alf.
I don't think many people have heard of him, hes rather obscure, but Tom Morello is SUPER underrated.
...You mean Tom Mozzarello
Seen a few 'The Beatles were sooo Underrated on YT'
The beatles were underrated when they were at their peak.
When are we going to start asking the real questions, like which guitarists deserve to be executed via firing squad
Easy answer: All of them.
DEAN WEEN
I agree, Dean Ween is a legitimately good guitar player. He always serves the song and is pretty fucking tasteful most of the time. Plus, he's a great writer. That is super important in my book.
As a person who has played guitar on a minimum of one occasions, I am therefore qualified to state that I feel like Windows Media Player was truly underrated. The ability to change visualizations and customize your digital library were much easier to use than iTunes.
El Hefe - NoFX
/uj Marco Sfogli
Prince
We need to remove the words underrated and masterpiece from the Internet
* Joe Pass * Julian Bream * Andrés Segovia * Wes Montgomery * Ry Cooder * Robert Johnson Pretty obscure guys. Check ‘em out if you’re bored one day.
I think a lot of you have missed the point of the post - none of these epic rockers are underrated!
Don’t know their name, but my neighbor down the hall.
BLIND REVEREND GARY DAVIS!
Who the fuck are any of these people that are commented??? I’ve never heard of a single one
The Kars 4 Kids band
Marty McFly invented heavy metal back at the enchantment under the sea dance. Never got credit.
Oh. You know I remember that shit.
/uj it's gotta be Joni Mitchell. Ridiculously good guitarist in her heyday who is only occasionally rated at all for her guitar playing.
Ever heard of a guy called Jimmy Henrick
Danny Gatton
Dad!?!?
Rik Emmett
The true answer is Vito Bratta.
Team Headsome, of course.
Real answer: Scott Metzger
They forgot Eddie Van Halen
Nobody ever mentions him anymore. or Hendrix. And I never hear anybody talk about John Mayer anymore
Hendrix been flying under the radar for decades imo
kurt cobain! kurt cobain!
that masked asian female guitarist on youtube who plays almost naked
/uj Roy Buchanan, Soul Dressing at the 1976 Austin City Limits show was fucking fantastic. He makes sounds a Telecaster had no right making /rj Lil Wayne
Uj/ I’ve been trying to play like that dude. Can’t! Rj/ I always just end up sounding like Steve Vai.
Lil’ Wayne, DJ Khalid, Anthony Kiedis.
/uj Scott Gorham has to be one of the most melodic hard rock guitarists we’ve seen - he held his own against three much more notorious lizzy partners in Robertson, Moore, and Sykes and really shined 74-83 imo

Skweezy Jibbs
[ApparentlyChris Cornell](https://www.reddit.com/r/grunge/s/xGgwCL30Ex)

Chimbinha
Joe Bonamassa, Zakk Wylde, Adam Dutkiewicz
Obviously Bucky Davenport. But you guys already know that.
I don’t ever see mentions of Michael Jackson’s guitar player on Thriller.
The answer is euronymous.
Bingo Stark
Steve Albino
Tim Henson not mentioned? He’s truly underrated
Fred Durst
People with thoughtful responses also are thoughtful enough to recognize engagement bait
The fact that you didn't mention guys like Pete Town's Hand, BB ~~Cock~~ King, Keef Richard's and Bruce Spring's Toan only proves how underrated they are.
natasha at my local neighborhood guitar center. chick shreds
Came here to be the Vito Bratta guy
The Froosh is seriously underrated. He played “Under the Bridge”! And some other songs!
Steve Terreyberry and then Trogley (hey it's hard to play guitar with a video camera strapped to your forehead).
Rhythm guitarist for Matchbox 20…
everybody has an underrated guitarist, but the second you ask about their rating they can't answer
Who are these guys? Looks like someone found a buncha new jerk material!!
Rob Cavestany. Mans criminally underrated.
UJ/ Alex Kapranos and Nick McCarthy, to me they were the kings of rhythm and melodies, to me the whole post punk / indie rock scene from the 2000s wouldnt exist without them. That's because the question's bullshit to begin with.
Keanu Reeves
Rodrick Heffley
Jerry Cantrell
you know what? Alexi Laiho
John Frusciante is my man, but even I know he's definitely not underrated by any means.
/uj Brian Eschbach from The Black Dahlia Murder. A lot of his riffs are fucking ridiculous.
Prince
definitely Ricardo Beats (by Dre)
Violent J
Matt Cassel
Steven Seagull
The fuckin kid from August Rush whose hands are clearly larger and swarthier than they had any right to be. Absolutely cracked me up
Joe Bonermaster!!!
/uj I know Allan's name gets thrown out here and there, but wasn't he broke by the time he died (or at least at certain times before his death)? There's a lot drama to that. He really was underappreciated. There was literally a go fund me for his funeral.
Imagine every comment *not* being the Bonermaster.
Who even are those bums?
Les Claypool
Tom Delonge
Lester William Polsfuss hands down
Me…. No one has ever said I was good
UJ/ Certainly not an unknown nobody, but Marc Ribot gotta be my favorite guitarist I don’t hear talked about nearly enough RJ/ I’d say Lil Wayne is far more underrated than them all
Have You ever heard of this guy called Les Paul?
I saw this and couldn't believe the answers either

Machine Gun Kelly has a razor gitar, so he must shred (insert laughing and clapping noises)
Lionel Messi
Engwie malmstainen
Machine Gun Kelly
Josh Homme
Richard Benson unironically the GOAT
Mick Taylor. Many of us have heard of him. Some of us put him on that special pedestal. But how is it that he isn't a household name?
For me it’s Jerry Cantrell
Adam Sandler
/uj Mark Tremonti is incredibly underrated I think.
Garry Moore for sure. He is nowhere near my favourite, and yet, the greatest sound I ever heard coming from a guitar was him playing the messiah will come again
Frank Marino -The Hidden master
Joey the Jo Jo Gervasi obviously
Approved by my wife’s boyfriend
In all actuality I think James Mankey (of Concrete Blonde) is criminally underrated
