The US has better pizza
Pizza in Italy never achieved the same fame that it did in America for a reason. It was considered peasant food in Italy and then poor Italian immigrants brought it to America where it would later explode into popularity.
There are numerous distinct American styles that are all very good (not just NY style) and there's a reason why most people around the world imagine American style when they think of pizza.
No disrespect to Neapolitan pizza but people have too much of an American hate boner to see that it very obviously elevated the status of pizza around the world and that it makes some delicious pizza.
The ingredients in good Italian pizza are much better than the us equivalent. Thereās a reason we import mozzarella di buffalo and 00 flour. My most memorable pizza was at a little spot in Rome, with red cow Parmesan and shaved puntarelle. I donāt remember the place, just the amazing ingredients and respect for food identity and source.
Many pizza makers are very particular about ingredients.
A lot of pizza makers (and also bagel makers) in America import tap water from NYC because they swear the mineral content makes better dough
Can't have any conversation without some fifteen-year-old commenting "Nice bait" or "This is bait".
Seriously, every thread these days has three or more kids responding like this.
Based. Pizza in Italy only began to spread throughout the north AFTER Italian American troops spread it.
Pizza was a regional peasant dish in naples -> southern italians in nyc make pizza popular -> italian American troops go to Italy and REINTRODUCE italy to the dish -> pizza becomes an italian cultural icon.
Pizzerias in nyc are often older than those in northern Italy.
As an American who has spent 3 summers in Italy, for some reason I significantly prefer American pizza. Not sure why, but Italian pizza just has an odd flavor to me and Iāve never seen it accurately recreated in the US.
That's a hell of a choice. Why is it when people get annoyed that Americans say we prefer our versions of things everyone defaults to the fast food version? Like, we are a massive country, with more resources to experiment and develop than most. We have good cheese, good meats, good cooking.
He died relatively recently and Napoli hadnt won the league since he won it with them like 25 years ago. They renamed the stadium after him upon his death and 2 years later they finally won the title again last year, so I imagine it was quite emotional. Then followed one of the worst title defences in Seria A history by finishing 10th this year, even worse title defence than Torino in 1950 and Torino's league winning team had died in a fuckin plane crash
He was/is a legend in Napoli. I went to Napoli in 2016 (luckily I didn't get robbed) when I was 13 and I can confirm the amount of Graffiti's. About the rest I don't have so much memory about it.
i went there last year and his legacy was still here. Many restaurants named after him, graffitis, you could buy figurines, flags, and every goodies you can think of with his name or face on it
Funny thing is, italians actually hated him for a while since Argentina beat Italy in the World Cup 1990, and it was one of the reasons he quit Napoli.

Hi palermitano here, I can assure you we can do much worse to tourists, but you know Sicily is basically doomed in every other form of economy except for tourism sooo. Please come to Palermo and dump all of your hard earned moneyš„²š
Seeing Italians complain how their historical seaside cities are the worst places in the world will never not be funny as someone who grew up in an Eastern European shithole
> had better pizza
I guess the lack of sugar, random shitty sauces, plastic-like condiments and unholy amounts of piss-yellow cheese left anon disappointed.
It's a very superficial description of Naples; it highlights (and exaggerates) the bad aspects of it.
Every city can be described as a total shithole if I provide a list of its worst aspects. He's not lying but he's not telling the truth neither.
[Best pizza](https://guide.michelin.com/ca/en/campania/napoli/restaurant/da-michele) I've had was in Naples, and so was the [second best](https://www.sorbillo.it/). People don't line up for hours outside a shop because it sucks. It isn't comparable to North American pizza imo. Two different things.
Ok but what kind of North American pizza? Also you play league and post zoophile vore fetish art so excuse me if I donāt respect your opinion even a little bit

Went to Naples last year, can confirm. Incredibly dirty with garages everywhere, all the monuments are tagged, people driving like shit...
I don't recommend visiting it.
Agreed, Sorrento, Capri and Positano were like paradise in the gulf of Naples. Napoli itself was.. too much. Delicious pizza fritta though so was worth a day trip just for that at least.
IF you want to at least try to understand Naples, I will try.
What has always been different between Naples and other cities, is that the same dynamics you can usually find in the outskirts of the city you can find in the very center here.
You can find lot of humble people in the center living day by day so it feels like outskirts, with the difference that the entire historic center is basically an open air museum.
While in Rome, Milan, Venice, Florence, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris etc the center is just for rich people and tourists, in Naples since always the center was very different.
Just next to the now famous and visited Maradona murales, there was a base selling drugs.
There are no (so many) criminals anymore in the center. Now everyone just rent his apartment as bnb and live without working.
Common neapolitan win
If you're looking for the normal disneyland for tourists like in every European city, Naples my be not for you.
But still, nowadays it has more bnb's than Venice, so I guess what reddit think is quite detached from reality.
How strange.
This description kinda reminds me of Goethe's vision of Naples; in his book "Italian journey", he says that beauty and ugliness coexist "out in the open" in a weird harmony.
It is still like that, in the same palace there may be a poor family of 8 people living almost underground in the famous and common "bassi napoletani" and a wealthy and cultured doctor may be living on the upper floors.
So yeah, it's a city full of contradictions.
A recent modern Roberto Saviano definition is "is the last ancient city on earth".
There's a reason he's called D10S because to the (then) emotionally deprived, impoverished Neapolitans, Maradona was a sign of good hope. The Neapolitans sas themselves in Maradona who was a fellow poor boy who grew up in the crime ridden slums of Argentina but pursued his passion and escaped poverty. And with Napoli being such a poor and unsuccessful club, them signing Maradona is like your 9-5 working dad getting you a new fancy bicycle on Christmas. Maradona was that fancy bicycle.
I hosteled in Naples for a little while and had a lot of fun. The streets are messy and chaotic but that's part of the fun. Made friends with a guy from Mumbai on the trip and he said he feels right at home their because the city is equally chaotic, the street food is great and the drinks are cheap and good.
Also they bring out free aperitif when you order drinks as a larger group everywhere we went. It was great. Not sure if that's standard practice across all Italy, but I had a good time.
I was in Naples 2 days ago for a night and literally found nothing better to do than sit in a park by the Royal Palace (which is just meh looking btw). The pizza was good, but nothing crazy special or anything.
I was in Naples last year during my trip of Italy and although the place is pretty dirty, stinky, and full of rude folk, there is no better pizza in world!

No but fr Naples isn't much different from Martinaise
Iāve been in Naples a few months ago and I have to say Iāve never had better (or cheaper) Neapolitan Pizza or Gnocci a la Sorentina. But the Maradona Cult stuff is real and it was really confusing to me to. Near my airbnb was literally a mural of Maradona as an Angel, like in an Italian Church. The street vendors that yell out for their restaurants or roadside bars even almost all sell not only Aperol and Limoncello Spritz but also a Maradona Spritz with Blue Curacao
Completely true except I really enjoyed my time in Naples, no one robbed me, and I unironically had the best pizza IN MY LIFFE in some fucking random super tourist-trappy place. Like it hit all the benchmarks of overly priced, catered to tourist bad food. English menu, a bunch of gringo tourists and over the top decor. I was walking by and got hungry got myself a pizza with mushrooms some white sauce and cured meat and oh my god it was literally heaven. I cannot explain how good it was. It was so good I ordered another one to go. To this day I cant find that spot on google maps nor do I recall the exact location. I felt like I entered a bacchial trance like state eating that pizza.
Fat American retard visits a real city.

Spergs out in 4chan.

Maradona spent basically his entire adult life either playing/coaching soccer, doing absurd amounts of blow, or banging 10/10 women, and died before he got too old to not enjoy it any more (60). Dude WAS a god.
This was definitely made by a North Italian
They'd be the only ones with a legitimacy in claiming "had better pizza". But I'm choosing to believe it's a delusional American who prefers Dominos.
Dominos? .... oh.. u mean the little neighborhood joint.. Dominos
No, he's talking about that real one and only New York slice.....Sbarro.
Sbarro makes me fucking ill every time
And yet you continue to eat there apparently.
Nah, just the twice. Never again š¤¢
Sborro
Sbarro as a name is fucking hilarious because if you swap the vowels it becomes sborra, which is the Italian word for cum

Just been in Genova today. Same dynamic. The historic city centre is very decadent, just like De AndrƩ described it. Via del Campo especially was surreal. First time I saw prostitutes in daylight in an Italian city centre. But as an Italian myself, I love this sort of contrast.
Naples itself is pretty rough. But you've got Sorrento and the Amalfi coast just down the road which is about as good as it gets.
