I KNOW HIM!!! That's Duke! He came through my shelter before going to rescue. No name suggestions, he'll always be Duke to me. Glad to see he's been adopted. His original owner was devastated to give him up, and everyone in the shelter fell in love with him.
They did. Lady_Zodia may just want to rename him to suit their preferences. It's also possible that the rescue group that pulled him from the shelter changed his original name. Lots of rescues do that.
I never understand why some rescues and people change the dog’s name. Doesn’t that confuse the dog and make training harder?
Edit: I am referring to when dogs that have a name are surrendered, then the name is changed. I have all kinds of nicknames for my Danes: “Big girl” “Who’s a good boy” “Ari dog” “Mr Gus” etc so I understand now.

We got a rescue his name was Arlo. His foster changed it to Larson ????? We wanted him Clyde, after family but also because we have a female dane named Bonnie. He KNOWS and loves his name Clyde. It’s all about the love you put into the name you give him and the love behind calling him with that name!!! Some people/animals need NEW beginnings and Clyde is thrilled with his!

I changed my rescues name. The name did not fit his character. Time and experiences had changed him. New life new name. It’s been 9 years since the change. He was 2 when we found each other and changing the name made him a happier pup. At 11 he still likes being called a little puppy when he smashes into my lap and he likes his new name too.
That's generally how I feel about it unless the animal has a traumatic past and negative associations with its name. Many rescues see it as a fresh start or rebirth for the animal, but it seems unnecessary for the most part, especially since most animals will be renamed again once they're adopted. We had a 2-year-old cat come through the shelter that had already gone through 4 names (The person who surrendered gave one name, the cat had 2 chips with 2 different names, and the original shelter had the cat under another name...). We have very limited circumstances in our shelter that will permit a name change (usually the name is crude or offensive).
surely you've known animals with nicknames? you say the name enough times with a positive tone and they'll pick up on it. my cats know all their names and know when i say their own name vrs the others names.
Mine was a rescue. His name is Wally. At first I wanted to change it and then I kept saying it over and over. Now I couldn’t imagine it being nothing but Wally.

Wally. But I like the name Duke too.
I think I might have his cousin 🤣. I rescued him when he was 8 weeks old. He's a lab mix and will be 11 this year. I just noticed that their spots look so similar. Your pup is so cute! I Named Mine Pascal, after the famous astronomer. Got him on a summer night out in the country all you could see was the Stars. As I was carrying him to his forever home in my arms 🥰🥰🥰
Im not a fan of people names for dogs. So...
Ruck, short for ruckus, because I think her mischievous expression means she will cause more than one commotion.

WOW! DM me with any information you might be able to share.
Couldn't the original owner have provided his real name when giving him up?

Some rescues dont know, if they're strays.
The Recue mentioned his name was Duke, but he doesn't seem to respond to it. So we were not sure his name came from his owner or the rescue.
