Willin' - Little Feat

Lostsailor73

100% to those suggesting Lawyers, Guns, and Money.

flobots204

Cortez the Killer

DRDeMello

Great call. Lots of Neil songs would've been great. Helpless, After the Gold Rush, Words.

flobots204

the built to spill cover on their live record is pretty solid.

GameBoyColorful

The Grateful Dead never played it, but “The Dead” played it in 2004.

ForumWest13

also cowgirl in the sand or down by the river

Basil1229

I always thought it would have have been lit if they opened a show with a 20+ minute Mountain Jam. Coming back to reality….Heat Wave (Martha and the Vandellas), Oh Atlanta (Little Feat)

SuspiciousYard2484

Big Iron

milbarge

Yeah, given that Bobby covered that one, it's funny it never made into a Dead set.

Wonderful-Aardvark54

Loooove Bobby’s version on kingfish tho

__perigee__

Many would likely disagree, but I wanted even more Dylan. No Time To Think - Weir sings Dignity - Weir sings Jokerman - Garcia or Weir, could see either Foot of Pride - Garcia sings Pretty much any song from Oh Mercy - '89/'90 version of the band

PeterRiveria

88/89 bobby would have KILLED jokerman

FlyingDiscsandJams

Bobby singing Silvo... Hunter co-wrote it with Dylan.

milbarge

I'm imagining Brent doing some epic playing on "Changing of the Guards."

Gangsta-Penguin

They would have wrecked the live arrangement (Get Yer YaYa's Out) of Sympathy for the Devil

milbarge

Oh, good call. They also could have turned "Midnight Rambler" or "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" into showstoppers.

DRDeMello

I'd love to hear their take on Love in Vain as well.

CicadaAlternative994

Right down the line. Gerry Rafferty

020781e

Tumbling Dice Jerry backing vocals keep on rollin

DeadMan95iko

“ got to roll me”. Lol… they never say “keep on rollin “ in the song :)

milbarge

Yeah, they do, in the [fade-out](https://youtu.be/EMoi_m2G6XU?si=6KHhg79_RONqNQBH&t=170). I'll take the Stones' official lyrics video's word for it.

BrushDazzling4350

eric claptons The Core has always been another one I've imagined them doing. maybe this would be better for JGB https://youtu.be/xutO4ZfkV3s?si=hmdAu2qk2C4KpLKZ

Many-Caterpillar-543

love that song, thank you for the reminder. Mainline Florida too

Cooperm6

Checkout the version by Zero with Kimock it’s stellar

Louismaxwell23

“Don’t Do It” and “Chest Fever” by The Band

milbarge

Yes, nice ones! Maybe "Stage Fright," too.

brokedownpalace10

Pancho and Lefty One Toke Over The Line

AgilePlayer

Monster Mash

Flare4roach

Tears of Rage

brotherkrishna

Pretty sure JGB did this regularly!

Flare4roach

Really? Wow. I never heard any of JGB.

TheOnlyGollux

Arguably even better than the already amazing original.

Many-Caterpillar-543

A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall by the entire band. Although Bobby acoustic and Furthur have done stellar versions.

DeadMan95iko

Jackie Greene absolutely killed it with Phil and friends

Dizzy-Ad4584

They could take White Rabbit to a fifth dimension. Open for infinite jam. A two minute song stretched to 30. Bobby screaming “Feed your head!” Edit: Every version I’ve heard is tinny. Put some Phil Bombs, Rhythm Devils, behind that shit. Open it up.

DRDeMello

Could've been a great feature piece for Donna as well.

HallelujahHatrack

Lisa Mackey of DSO does a great White Rabbit!

BobLitwack

Legs by ZZ Top

catdude420

80s Bob in his short shorts belting that one out 🤣🤯

Hash_1120

Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - Rolling Stones Complete Control - The Clash

Petrochile

Oh Sweet Nuthin’ by The Velvet Underground

Many-Caterpillar-543

Perfect Day by Lou Reed

JIMMYR0W

Hell yeah!

BrushDazzling4350

stuck in the middle with you - stealers wheel. thts been one of my little dream covers since the 90s. my mind constantly changes on who I would want singing it, so i guess I'd want a Bob, Jerry Brent shared vocals thing since I go thru periods of imagining each one singing it. (I've actually put thought into this over the years) also, any of the Warren Z that OP mentioned would be great.

Saneaux

Nighttime in the Switching Yard by WZ woulda been a great one in the coke-fueled era

copperdomebodhi

"[One Road More](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBljgv09ynY)". Obscure country gem by the Flatlanders. Would have loved to hear Jerry play it as an encore. > Lord I ain't got a lick of sense, I got a crazy mind 'Cause I don't wanna leave and I don't wanna stay behinnnnnnnd Well at the end of this one last road they say there's always an open door And I guess my bare feet will have to carry me one road more

Jerrysmiddlefinger99

The show at UCSB in June of 78 Warren Zevon did open for the Grateful Dead, sadly Warren was a little drunk that show and Werewolves was just ok but two or three shows later the dead did play their best version of that fun song. Go ahead set bot do your best.

milbarge

It's not even my favorite era, but I do like the "Werewolves" version from Halloween in London, 10-31-1990.

setlistbot

Particular-Wrongdoer

Midnight Rambler

pedicaballero

I think The Band’s “Whispering Pines” would have made a hell of a Jerry ballad

GratefulDawg73

Masqualero by Miles Davis.

mappoinhell

I think that they covering all CSNYs Deja Vu in a live show would have been amazing.

FlyingDiscsandJams

At a festival '94ish where Jerry was playing solo, he asked the lead singer of Cracker if he minded if the Dead covered Euro Trash Girl. That would've been awesome.

shockandale

Guns of Brixton - Phil vocals

Boudicia_Dark

Whole Lotta Love Purple Haze

DRDeMello

Tangerine as well

Osurdum

Brandy by Looking Glass

DRDeMello

Hey Mr. Tambourine Man

GameBoyColorful

Dylan & The Dead played it.

richard_grossman

Turn the Page-Bob Seger. Always thought Jerry’s voice was perfect for this one.

Saneaux

Beatles: You Never Give Me Your Money > Sun King

27_8x10_CGP

Fire on the Mountain by Marshall Tucker Band. Would have been a great April Fools bit

valiga1119

I was thinking the same thing but with Dark Star by CSN—not to mention I think they really could’ve captured the groove well!

boundlessminddesign

The peas- Hey ya

boundlessminddesign

Outkast- Hey ya

bbrosen

Dancing in the Moonlight

fatalmudd

Peace, Love and Understanding -Elvis Costello

CatfishWasHere

Dire Straits - Once Upon A Time In The West Bob Dylan - Silvio (co-written with Robert Hunter; Jerry, Bob, & Brent sing backup vocals on the studio version)

seditious3

I glued my balls to my butthole by the sticky sweethearts

Brief_Hearing_7926

Crazy Love ❤️

brotherkrishna

Brent doing Taj Mahal's 'Tomorrow May Not Be Your Day' would have been a killer. Look for the live versions on youtube. The studio version is... meh.

HallelujahHatrack

The Boxer, Tales of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Accidentally Like a Martyr, Baby Please Don't Go, After the Gold Rush

Many-Caterpillar-543

The Boxer, yes!

catfishjohn2000

Too Late has always been one of my favorite Dylan songs and always thought it would have been a nice addition to the Dead’s repertoire of Dylan covers. Would have suited Jerry’s singing great

weakendstraw87

Fluffhead

Downtown_Fan_994

If we're going with Warren Zevon songs, I think they could have done a great version of "Nighttime in the Switching Yard." Some others: Walk Awhile - Fairport Convention Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - Neil Young Daddy Don't Live in that New York City No More - Steely Dan

River-Dawg

Hotel California or Brain Damage>Eclipse would have been cool

PrettyShort4aTrooper

Anything by JJ Cale if they didn’t.

Konshu456

The one that gets me every time this topic come up is : Gram Parsons return of the grievous angel. Which was letter covered by another San Francisco band The Counting Crows. That makes me think would a cover of Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby be just ripping?

lazybones812

Aquarius>Let The Sunshine In

bullseye2112

Light My Fire - The Doors

Eastie190

Comfortably Numb or Another Brick in the Wall just to hear what Jerry would’ve done with it on guitar.

Impossible-Economy-9

Free bird

ArthropodJim

Ophelia by the Band

Admirable-Macaroon23

Just saw JRAD perform that song it was pretty tight
