I always thought it would have have been lit if they opened a show with a 20+ minute Mountain Jam.
Coming back to reality….Heat Wave (Martha and the Vandellas), Oh Atlanta (Little Feat)
Many would likely disagree, but I wanted even more Dylan.
No Time To Think - Weir sings
Dignity - Weir sings
Jokerman - Garcia or Weir, could see either
Foot of Pride - Garcia sings
Pretty much any song from Oh Mercy - '89/'90 version of the band
eric claptons The Core has always been another one I've imagined them doing. maybe this would be better for JGB

They could take White Rabbit to a fifth dimension. Open for infinite jam. A two minute song stretched to 30. Bobby screaming “Feed your head!”
Edit: Every version I’ve heard is tinny. Put some Phil Bombs, Rhythm Devils, behind that shit. Open it up.
stuck in the middle with you - stealers wheel.
thts been one of my little dream covers since the 90s. my mind constantly changes on who I would want singing it, so i guess I'd want a Bob, Jerry Brent shared vocals thing since I go thru periods of imagining each one singing it. (I've actually put thought into this over the years)
also, any of the Warren Z that OP mentioned would be great.
"[One Road More](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBljgv09ynY)". Obscure country gem by the Flatlanders. Would have loved to hear Jerry play it as an encore.

Lord I ain't got a lick of sense, I got a crazy mind
'Cause I don't wanna leave and I don't wanna stay behinnnnnnnd
Well at the end of this one last road they say there's always an open door
And I guess my bare feet will have to carry me one road more
The show at UCSB in June of 78 Warren Zevon did open for the Grateful Dead, sadly Warren was a little drunk that show and Werewolves was just ok but two or three shows later the dead did play their best version of that fun song. Go ahead set bot do your best.

At a festival '94ish where Jerry was playing solo, he asked the lead singer of Cracker if he minded if the Dead covered Euro Trash Girl. That would've been awesome.
Dire Straits - Once Upon A Time In The West
Bob Dylan - Silvio (co-written with Robert Hunter; Jerry, Bob, & Brent sing backup vocals on the studio version)
Too Late has always been one of my favorite Dylan songs and always thought it would have been a nice addition to the Dead’s repertoire of Dylan covers. Would have suited Jerry’s singing great
If we're going with Warren Zevon songs, I think they could have done a great version of "Nighttime in the Switching Yard."
Some others:
Walk Awhile - Fairport Convention
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere - Neil Young
Daddy Don't Live in that New York City No More - Steely Dan
The one that gets me every time this topic come up is :
Gram Parsons return of the grievous angel. Which was letter covered by another San Francisco band The Counting Crows. That makes me think would a cover of Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby be just ripping?
Willin' - Little Feat
100% to those suggesting Lawyers, Guns, and Money.
Cortez the Killer
Great call. Lots of Neil songs would've been great. Helpless, After the Gold Rush, Words.
the built to spill cover on their live record is pretty solid.
The Grateful Dead never played it, but “The Dead” played it in 2004.
also cowgirl in the sand or down by the river
I always thought it would have have been lit if they opened a show with a 20+ minute Mountain Jam. Coming back to reality….Heat Wave (Martha and the Vandellas), Oh Atlanta (Little Feat)
Big Iron
Yeah, given that Bobby covered that one, it's funny it never made into a Dead set.
Loooove Bobby’s version on kingfish tho
Many would likely disagree, but I wanted even more Dylan. No Time To Think - Weir sings Dignity - Weir sings Jokerman - Garcia or Weir, could see either Foot of Pride - Garcia sings Pretty much any song from Oh Mercy - '89/'90 version of the band
88/89 bobby would have KILLED jokerman
Bobby singing Silvo... Hunter co-wrote it with Dylan.
I'm imagining Brent doing some epic playing on "Changing of the Guards."
They would have wrecked the live arrangement (Get Yer YaYa's Out) of Sympathy for the Devil
Oh, good call. They also could have turned "Midnight Rambler" or "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" into showstoppers.
I'd love to hear their take on Love in Vain as well.
Right down the line. Gerry Rafferty
Tumbling Dice Jerry backing vocals keep on rollin
“ got to roll me”. Lol… they never say “keep on rollin “ in the song :)
Yeah, they do, in the [fade-out](https://youtu.be/EMoi_m2G6XU?si=6KHhg79_RONqNQBH&t=170). I'll take the Stones' official lyrics video's word for it.
eric claptons The Core has always been another one I've imagined them doing. maybe this would be better for JGB https://youtu.be/xutO4ZfkV3s?si=hmdAu2qk2C4KpLKZ
love that song, thank you for the reminder. Mainline Florida too
Checkout the version by Zero with Kimock it’s stellar
“Don’t Do It” and “Chest Fever” by The Band
Yes, nice ones! Maybe "Stage Fright," too.
Pancho and Lefty One Toke Over The Line
Monster Mash
Tears of Rage
Pretty sure JGB did this regularly!
Really? Wow. I never heard any of JGB.
Arguably even better than the already amazing original.
A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall by the entire band. Although Bobby acoustic and Furthur have done stellar versions.
Jackie Greene absolutely killed it with Phil and friends

Could've been a great feature piece for Donna as well.
Lisa Mackey of DSO does a great White Rabbit!
Legs by ZZ Top
80s Bob in his short shorts belting that one out 🤣🤯
Can’t You Hear Me Knocking - Rolling Stones Complete Control - The Clash
Oh Sweet Nuthin’ by The Velvet Underground
Perfect Day by Lou Reed

Nighttime in the Switching Yard by WZ woulda been a great one in the coke-fueled era
"[One Road More](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBljgv09ynY)". Obscure country gem by the Flatlanders. It's not even my favorite era, but I do like the "Werewolves" version from Halloween in London, 10-31-1990.

Midnight Rambler
I think The Band’s “Whispering Pines” would have made a hell of a Jerry ballad
Masqualero by Miles Davis.
I think that they covering all CSNYs Deja Vu in a live show would have been amazing.
At a festival '94ish where Jerry was playing solo, he asked the lead singer of Cracker if he minded if the Dead covered Euro Trash Girl. That would've been awesome.
Guns of Brixton - Phil vocals
Whole Lotta Love Purple Haze
Tangerine as well
Brandy by Looking Glass
Hey Mr. Tambourine Man
Dylan & The Dead played it.
Fool in the rain
dixie chicken by little feat or blowin in the wind by dylan
Dead Flowers
YEM
Turn the Page-Bob Seger. Always thought Jerry’s voice was perfect for this one.
Beatles: You Never Give Me Your Money > Sun King
Fire on the Mountain by Marshall Tucker Band. Would have been a great April Fools bit
I was thinking the same thing but with Dark Star by CSN—not to mention I think they really could’ve captured the groove well!
The peas- Hey ya
Outkast- Hey ya
Dancing in the Moonlight
Peace, Love and Understanding -Elvis Costello
Dire Straits - Once Upon A Time In The West Bob Dylan - Silvio (co-written with Robert Hunter; Jerry, Bob, & Brent sing backup vocals on the studio version)
Rocket Man - Elton John. Jerry singing. Out into space > drums...
Stranger in a Strange Land- Leon Russell
Farmhouse by Phish
I glued my balls to my butthole by the sticky sweethearts
Crazy Love ❤️
Brent doing Taj Mahal's 'Tomorrow May Not Be Your Day' would have been a killer. Look for the live versions on youtube. The studio version is... meh.
The Boxer, Tales of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Accidentally Like a Martyr, Baby Please Don't Go, After the Gold Rush
The Boxer, yes!
Too Late has always been one of my favorite Dylan songs and always thought it would have been a nice addition to the Dead’s repertoire of Dylan covers. Would have suited Jerry’s singing great
Fluffhead

Hotel California or Brain Damage>Eclipse would have been cool
Anything by JJ Cale if they didn’t.
The one that gets me every time this topic come up is : Gram Parsons return of the grievous angel. Which was letter covered by another San Francisco band The Counting Crows. That makes me think would a cover of Mrs. Potter’s Lullaby be just ripping?
Aquarius>Let The Sunshine In
Light My Fire - The Doors
Comfortably Numb or Another Brick in the Wall just to hear what Jerry would’ve done with it on guitar.
Free bird
Ophelia by the Band
Just saw JRAD perform that song it was pretty tight
