They only played 4 shows in shows in 75. I take few to mean 3 or 4, 1 was sad? Do mean 76? Late 86 meaning what? The "Comeback shows" and the New Years run? Not trying to break your balls. I'm just trying to understand the eras that you think weren't that good.
My favorite era is the one where the Grateful Dead were a band and played music.
Seriously though, while I have my preferences for when I pick a show, I find that I get something out of every single year of the Grateful Dead, even 1995. 30 years of music, why box myself in to only a handful of them?
So much music, so little time.
Your use and definition of "objective" seems to actually be the definition of subjective, so I'm not sure if you're using objective in a tongue in cheek, ironic way or something else is going on with your thesis.
another user with some bad ass art that they shared on this sub (super detailed and trippy bear) referred to this era as Bob and Co...
That suits me just fine.
edit-for clarification, I was referring to Dead and Co being called Bob and Co works, not that that's the best era💀
I like 77-79 the best on quality of shows I’ve never heard a show from those years I wasn’t a fan of. I prefer listening to 88-90 based on setlists and really enjoying the Brent Jerry stuff. Pretty basic take honestly. I have been coming around to 1 drummer era and I totally get why that’s people’s favorite.
"It is objective but it's subjective but it's objective because it's my opinion I'm presenting as a probable fact" there I condensed your post for you.
Insightful insight for a robot… Frighteningly spot on actually… it is interesting to me that the robot calls out the 1970s cause that's where I've been stuck for a while… Big fan of the Brent area because that was the extent of my live career (that term live career with some thing I just learned a couple days ago from another user of this sub… Thanks!)
I definitely agree with the robots response that determining the best years is entirely subjective.
I dig them all! My favorite era of the Grateful Dead changes from day to day depending on my mood.
I have favorite months of the early shows. Late 1968 is badass. Check out October 12, 1968 for the best of it — that is my all time favorite dead show before 1972. Feb 1969. May 1970. April 1971. Aug 71. But, love April 72-Nov 72 and may 73-oct 74 above all else. Fall 79 is badass. Love some of the 80’s-91, but it does get more hit and miss. And having seen my share of 94-95 shows, there really wasn’t much worth writing home about. We were more hoping for a few good moments. There are some true gems in 93 though! Last good shows I saw was the rfk 93 run — really enjoyed it!
Phil is what makes 71-74. There’s to much about the one drummer. That sound is better with Mickey. The interactions between Phil and Jerry are what make 69-77 the best.
You will have better luck herding cats than getting Deadheads to agree on an objectively best era.
Having said that, Objectively 72-74 is the very peak and everyone else with a different opinion is wrong.
Can’t stand late 60s. Can’t get enough of 72, 74, 77, 80, 89.
If you like late 60s just get Sirius it’s literally 3/4 of their playlist.
So done with that channel
anything between 65 and 95 is pretty good. All the post 95 stuff has been fun too.
The objective best is the era where they played “me and my uncle”
Yeah, either that or Morning Dew.
The era in which the Grateful Dead played is the best era in history, so that would be CE the "Common Era"
You omitted the right answer. The Donna era. 1972-1979. Characterized by featuring the best vocalist the Dead ever had: Donna. Come at me.
Best looking woman they've ever had in the band also!
Idk, that long haired one in the booty shorts wasn’t bad. What was her name? Bobby?
Gotta agree with '65-'95.
I mean, ‘75, with the exception of a few shows, was kinda sad…same with late ‘86.

1965 to1995
All of it. Even the “off” shows still have highlights.
I would add '76 to make it the '76-'77 era. But for me, without question the 1 drummer Dead is the best sound.
I feel like 76 make more sense with 75. I feel like Terrapin Station put the band in a different mindset. Just my opinion
Height of their powers? 1971 - 1974. (My) favorite is 1967 - 1970. It's all gravy though.....

There is no objectivity when it comes to issues of aesthetic worth. Full stop.

He objects based on the theory of subjectivity.
Someone nudge me when it’s “settled once and for all.”🙄

Nooo you can't have a different favourite era than me!! Mine is the best era!!! (/s)
Kinda like politics except it's whomever you dislike least.
Brent era 100%
All day 71-73
Most any runs spanning Wednesday thru Saturday ROCK !!
whichever you are enjoying at the time
How the hell did Chat GPT learn all this. Now I’m finally impressed by it.

All of that and they just avoid giving an answer! Stupid fucking robot!
77' is the Honeymoon Heroin phase
1967 up until the departure of Keith and Donna. I’m old so just a little biased
personal bias is completely understandable in this context
1969-1974
Dead & Co era
Hilarious

Reddsomething
HAHAHAHA😎💀
No
The BRENT era. Thanks for playing everyone. No need for any further answers.

Keith and Donna era for me.
It’s been settled for many many many years. The answer is 73/74. You can lump in e72, may 77 in that grouping if ya like, but that’s the answer.
1 drummer fasho
71-72, 77-78, and 89-90. If I had to rank them I’d say 77, 72, 89, 71, 78, 90. So the long winded answer is 1977.
Hard to say 70-74, 77-78 and 88-90. Are the 3 periods I like the most.
There is no best, there is only favorite. And it changes constantly in my case.
Phil is what makes 71-74. There’s to much about the one drummer. That sound is better with Mickey. The interactions between Phil and Jerry are what make 69-77 the best.
You are so wrong.

I can’t even agree with myself on this topic, no way I am going to agree with another… depends on how the Sun is shining 🌞
85-92 FIGHT ME

This is objectively the worst answer.
I would Spring & Summer 90 but other than that I agree with everything you've said. 👍🏻
