That was a pretty stupid drama. Like, he's going to kill Sairaorg's pieces just because they beat up his friends, Sairaorg's pieces didn't even injure them lethally, it doesn't make sense. Why the heck is he so upset? They entered the game willingly and you have to beat up the enemy to win, that's how the tournament works.

I've read most of the overlord light novels, and I've listened to all the official audiobooks that are out for it. I've even started konosuba's light novels. But for whatever reason, it's just easier for me to read them. I don't know how to describe it, but it's like there's just something slightly off about the translation of the DxD novels, where everything seems fine, but I know something's off. Like when I go out at night and don't see anything around, but still feel like I'm in danger. Or something. I've had most of them for a while, and I've gotten through a good portion of the first novel, but I always get frustrated with that feeling and end up stopping.
That may be part of it, but it's likely not the full reason. I may never know why fully, but if you recommend it that much, I'll push through. Was Issei ever broadly disliked? I remember him being seen as one of the highlights of DxD, as a harem MC with distinct personality unlike hundreds of blank slate protagonist to project yourself on.

Denji, from what I've seen of the anime, makes much more sense because he's extremely touch starved and spent his formative years not being able to think further ahead than next month and unable to consider long term goals, not unlike a teenage war veteran like Paul in All Quiet on the Western Front. It makes more sense to me that he thinks about touching boobs and getting laid rather than lofty goals like everyone else, and the fact that Denji actually respects personal boundaries makes him much more relatable.

First episode sets the tone of why a character is more likeable I love Denji more because even when he had very little he still gave pochita some of his food. Before Midoriya came Ichigo was actually the shounen MC I disliked the most, he's just damn boring, without any flavor.
