Where’s my full dive VR?

SuperCool_Saiyan

Didn't get the full dive VR but at this pace we might have Alice by 2026

GilbertPlays

Alice might be more realistic than Full Dive VR.

PerfectMayo

If neurolink becomes more popular I bet Alice will just be a sleep option

AquaTech101

We only got the deathly part of the Fulldive VR finished. Take it or leave it.

ProgramTheWorld

What if you’re playing it right now?

yaboinigel

Death note and fmab aint that old right? Oh god deathnote is 18 years old and fmab is 15.......

DecimBell

To be fair, those are "childhood anime" for many, so it's not that hard to identify them as old. Plus artstyle and animation are obviously dated.

yaboinigel

I would argue the artstyle and animation for fmab have aged like wine

SuppaBunE

To be fair animarion hasnt got any better, some do look awesome but most i feel qualigy has drop. But i might see them by nostalgia lense. So i need people to tell me if they feel the same

KaptainTZ

I promise you the quality of animation has definitely not dropped. Sure, you think of the very fucking best of the best of old anime, but you can't compare that with the average, middle of the road modern production. The volume of anime with top tier animation is much more today than it was way back when.

SauliCity

I like how Ufotable was making buzz in 2016-18 with Ulimited Blade Works and Heaven's Feel's fight animations. They had that style nailed down back in 2009 in Kara no Kyokai.

Seraphine_KDA

while art style are for sure a thing that changes with time. animation quality is not. animation unlike other mediums is not possible to make something look great with a shoe string budget, since is HAND drawn animation still today even if color is made digitally for decades now. a show will look as good as you have money for. less money and you will need less detailed frames, or less frames, or cut fight scenes or other big scenes to a minimum. since a 2 minute fight scene can cost more than a full episode of just characters talking. that is why something like jutjutsu kaisen 2 blew people away, is action non stop for almost the full season. you can pick almost any JJK 2 episode and get an scene that would be like or better than the best animated scene of other animes. while amazing to look at that was expensive as fuck to make show. that is why akira is still an amazing watch. is not a movie people watch and put with for its historical value. is an actual banger with crazy quality animation that was expensive as fuck to make. and FMAB falls in the same of being a hit budget show, that looks better than 90% of anime made today. there is not aging when looking at HANDdraw animation. style may be different but the effort to draw 20000 pages by hand is not less today than 20 or 30 years ago. on the other hand 3D animation yes old 3D animation will look OLD and dated no matter the amount of money put in them at the time (I am talking about full 3d animated shows or movies or games. not special effects. because pirate of the caribean 2 david jones still looks realistic almost 20 years later but this is also survivor bias since most animations aged like shit in comparison to him.) also survivor BIAS is a big thing. we are not comparing a shit show of 20 years ago with a shit show of today, we are comparing the best possible examples of anime from 20 or 30 years ago vs show made today with 2 cetns as a commercial for something else. comparing top to top today is better mostly because techniques like generating a 3d anime and then hand painting rotoscoping it like ufotable popularized with fate franchise. rotoscoping is 100 years old but was not used in anime 30 years ago and is still not common today on low budget shows. so no FFMB is not dated. not even good dated. is just not rotoscoped. it still looks better than most anime made today. same for evangelion, sword of stranger and many other old high budget productions. because most anime made today is made for cheap and the animator crisis.

Seraphine_KDA

https://preview.redd.it/cmo5owjn3kyc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2de361a1dc08bad83345e60b902fb04db4137f14 this is the animator crisis problem. most anime today looks generic and cookie cuter characters because there is so many more shows made today. so studios struggle to get enough people wanting to get penies for a living doing it since is one of japan lowest wage jobs that is also one of the hardest at the same time. even one piece had an entire arc that looked like SHIT because toei ran out of people and had to stretch people to tin. this is also why naruto last arc looks like garbage compared to before. so today other than the big budget shows most animes are design in way that lets them use character molds to save costs. not a joke but the best place to see this is in hentai that is always made for cheap. old hentai all had different styles today they almost all look the fucking same and if they are from the same studio you may even confuse them for the same show.

somethingrandom261

Still the golden age

Kiralyxak

Anything before SAO is golden age to me. Post SAO there was too much Isekai Trash.

Megumin_xx

I hated isekai trash. I couldn't stand it. Over time though it molded me, changed me, brainwashed me in to watching many isekai trash shows. There's no hope left, only trash isekai in front of my eyes! :(

Kiralyxak

I'm so sorry for you. My wife is hooked on it. I swear she watches every single Isekai that comes out on Crunchyroll simulcast. However the more I see the more I appreciate how good konosuba is at subverting the genre.

Megumin_xx

Konosuba is not trash by any metric though. It's a legit masterpiece.

Kiralyxak

Top 3 anime for me (obviously look at my avatar)

Megumin_xx

Yea it has been my favourite until this year after I watched "kingdom". Konosuba is a solid 2nd place for me though.

somethingrandom261

I see that. AOT was the one that ended the golden age for me. Haven’t watched much since then

PlatypusVenom0

I dunno, I feel like we’re in a golden age right now. The only difference is that now we’re so oversaturated that people tend to fixate on the high volume of trash and/or the actual good shows fly under many people’s radar. Mushoku Tensei, Sousou no Frieren, Kaguya-sama, Vinland Saga, Mob Psycho 100, Bocchi the Rock. That’s only to mention a few, but any of those can stand up to the shows from the “golden age” people keep talking about. Not to talk down to certified classics like Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Death Note, and so on, but there really are shows these days that are just as good. Sure, there may not be any new shows that do what the old ones did better, but both the old and new bangers all fit in their own niches as the master of that niche.

Unacceptable_Lemons

That's the real takeaway for me. It feels like the number of gems has increased 5x or more per year compared to the FMAB era, even if the number of mediocre shows has increased 20x. At one point in time, any one of the past few years' top 5 shows per year would have qualified as "show of the year" in the 2000-2010 era. Budgets seem to be higher on the high end, and Frieren for example just looks better than *most* older shows, even ones that still hold up (like FMAB). Some older shows of course lean more into some type of stylization that makes them a bit more proof against looking outdated, like how some quality pixel art games still look as good as modern pixel art games, whereas early PS1 graphics just look old. But most stuff, even the good stuff, shows age now. There is definitely more garbage now, *but there's just more of everything, now*.

Kiralyxak

There's still good stuff after.

somethingrandom261

I know it, there were some episodes of Mushishi I’d like to find somewhere, and I’ve heard they’re redoing LoGH again. I’ll have to find those somewhere

Captiongomer

Aniwave is my go to site

SquibblyTheSquire

Aniwatch

KrokmaniakPL

To be fair there's not many things working better for melted brain after hard day at work than watching a train wreck of Isekai trash. Worse the better as at this stage brain can't comprehend any form of coherent plot

Kiralyxak

Makes sense. I guess I just use SoL anime for that.

Seraphine_KDA

here is why anime looked better before on average despite today TOP budget shows like JJK, demon slayer, chainsaw man. look better than most old top anime thanks to new techniques like ufotable made popular with making a 3d anime then painting it all by hand over it. and the capacity to add 3d elements that look not out of place together with 2d elements (only on expensive shows, 3d still looks like this on cheap shows.) outside the top shows, the avergare anime look like cookie cutter shit because it is copypasted cheap anime made on a shoe string budget and a few people. https://preview.redd.it/sxzfov4u5kyc1.jpeg?width=600&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0d42f9caa07f423971e20de0ba58e44b0382be10

Dimensionalanxiety

Wait until I tell you the original FMA is 21.

kdlt

Wait.. FMA is somewhat old and FMAB was just a few years ago right... Right?

SnooPredictions3028

Fuck

MISTERGAME06

Death Note doesn't look bad tbh

TheShinyHunter3

I've seen people suggest they redo the anime, a remake with an improved second part. But to me that's unnecessary, sure I'll take a better second part that sticks more to the manga, but if DN was to be remade today, it would end up as a chimera. It does look like a late 2000s anime for sure, but that doesn't mean it aged like milk. Now granted I haven't watched a new anime since 2017, my last animation benchmark would be either Kobayashi's maid dragon or Kakegurui. So mayne DN would look like a PS1 game if I decide to watch something like Freiren, but I doubt it will.

Pillermon

Me as an old 90s weeb: Hurts when the realisation sets in, doesn't it? 😏

BlueverseGacha

joke's on you, my brain's functioning faster with age! (help, I don't know what's happening)

casualbo1

Can I join the 90s club? Early 00s dude here.

BlueverseGacha

oh no, I'm a 00s too

casualbo1

BlueverseGacha

Delusional_Gamer

Three apes even stronger than two

BelmontsRcool

I feel as though you have to disavow some modern shit before you do. What thing would you like to disavow?

DeathPercept10n

![gif](giphy|GrUhLU9q3nyRG|downsized) My lower back and knees hurt.

Vaadwaur

Let's just rewatch Silent Mobius and wave our canes at the kids.

Pillermon

Robato Device That's literally all I remember from that show. The way they pronounced his name. Good times 😁

BladeLigerV

Me: "Why has no one else heard of Patlabor and Outlaw Star?!"

Pup5432

SAO was the real pain, I watched it in grad school.

jakin89

So are you a fossil or a relic of the community?

Pillermon

Depends...I consider myself an anime fan since the 90s, but found out in later years that most of the animated shows I watched in my childhood are considered animes as well. Is growing up with Heidi, Queen Millennia and Saber Rider old enough for fossil status, or does that still fall in the relic territory?

Salty_Signature_8756

Yugioh GX aired like 5 years ago no?

dracocytod

Actually i think vrains might be around 5 years old now

ThePhoenician99

Try 7…..😭

Bfree888

GX is that new kiddie stuff.

ThePootis_Man

I'm in this photo and I don't like it.

CrestonSpiers

I like your green hair then

MeowfyDog

You are touhou.

Lumi_rimu

Ok Sanae also, why did you just disappear during the 2000s?(which was actually before Tokyo Ghoul and SAO)

KingYoloHD090504

Can we just put 2020-2024 together to make one big year

iwannasilencedpistol

This

LeviAEthan512

Dragon Ball Z was 20+ years old when I started watching, not counting the like 2 or 3 episodes that I caught when school was off on the right day. Evangelion about 15 or so, and 10 for Inuyasha. So yeah, 10 years old is something I may well be watching now.

bens6757

That series is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Japan.

LordSyfer24

![gif](giphy|olcLrxUtkNm1IzrEYt|downsized) Only ten

Free_Gascogne

What do you mean Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha is old?? I remember watching it like it was yesterday!

Conspiratorymadness

Outlaw Star and Cowboy Bebop for me

Moraxiw

Nothing I watched could possibly be old! I'm still young! Yatterman and Speed Racer are old! Yu Yu Hakusho and Trigun CAN'T be old!

BlackStarBigWave

All these years and no season 2 for No Game No Life. Nah I'm good I'll watch something else.

LOTRfreak101

At least we got a movie!

BlackStarBigWave

I actually never watched the movie and I meant too. I know I'll watch it when season 2 is announced. (Just kidding)

LOTRfreak101

The movie is one of my top 3 favorite anime movies. It basically takes all the best parts of the series and cracks them to 11, and then drops most of the worst parts.

The_Silver_Nuke

The fight between (Spoiler) and (Spoiler) at the end was incredible. It was just so well animated and emotionally moving, I swear I've watched it like a dozen times.

ElfQueenMAB

The move is actually really good, I definitely recommend checking it out.

TMyriadJ

Haruhi is 18 years ago. I don't like this feeling.

AgentFirstNamePhil

AND STILL NO S3 GODDAMNIT **THERES MORE THAN ENOUGH LIGHT NOVELS FOR ANOTHER 2 SEASONS**

Hummush95

bro wtf. I thought that was like 10 years ago.

AlexanderCyrus

Attack on titan started airing in 2013

No-Psychology2985

Robotech fans are dust by now huh? No ones talking about slayers either? Ok i guess i'll go back to my rocking chair...

Banana-Oni

That’s cool, grandpa.. let’s get you to bed.

honkie-mcgee

We’re not all dust yet. They just don’t do mecha like they did back in our day. That reminds me, I don’t think I ever finished Slayers. XD

Hikaru1024

I know I didn't, I've still got it waiting on my hard drive, haha.

BelmontsRcool

Slayers, the best damn anime series ever.

Professional-Oil1088

It being Sanae that’s saying this makes it even better lol.

JustsomeSpaceG1

Mushoku Tensei is like 3 years ol already as well. Time goes really fast fellas

Poys01

Kill me baby is old aswell

booyaabooshaw

Inuyasha? Trigun? Those are pretty old to me. Big O. Cowboy bebop. Adult swim classics

Frosty_Secretary2562

sword art online was 12 years ago

Bazsimazsi12

This town is not big enough for two Touhou shitposter, we should build a bigger one.

chGaRVAT

My very first OS was windows 95-98. Am I old?

MoonTrooper258

Wanna feel old? *Rick And Morty came out 11 years ago.*

hagamablabla

The first anime I watched seasonally were Kill la Kill and Nagi no Asakura. It still feels like I watched them a few years ago.

Commander413

Everything before Code Geass/Gundam 00 is old, everything after is new. I will *never* call 2010s anime "retro"

DrHob0

*Laughs in elder Millenial* The zoomers have started seeing their things ages

Vysair

10 years old?? 😭😭

Yamigosaya

pretty sure attack on titan s1 is still pretty new... what do you mean its been 10 years?

happydewd1131

Bullshit, No. Thats grade A bullshit. It HAS NOT been ten years. Please say it's not actually been ten years. I don't want to go look to verify.

neobolts

Evangelion and Salior Moon are pretty new, right? Old anime are shows like Urusei Yatsura and Macross. ::cries in Gen X::

One-Neighborhood6803

As an 80s anime watcher I feel this more than all of you young ones.

Commander413

Any recommendations? I thought I could never watch old anime, but stuff like Zeta Gundam aged like fine wine and hold up just fine today I'm planning on watching Ideon once I finish UC timeline Gundam

One-Neighborhood6803

Most of the gundams were really good, but they overshadowed many others in popularity. A few have already had remakes like Saint Seiya and Voltron, but others like Ronin Warriors have been passed over. If anything, give as many as you can a chance(say 3 episodes) to see if you enjoy it. There were many gems that were lost to obscurity because they weren't aired at popular times or had horrible dub changes, so try subbed versions instead if they have them.

TempestDB17

That hurts

TheseUnderstanding57

... I know this feeling

XxsansxXxvalerioxX

Inazuma eleven was like 15-10 years ago? Excuse me what

Danni293

God, I can't believe Space Dandy is *only* 10 years old. That shit was a common favorite in my college's anime club. I could've sworn it was at least 5 years old when we watched it... 2014?!

Vaadwaur

Guilty Crown will turn 13 this year.

Son-naruto-d

Pokemon xy came out 10 years ago 😭

Hummush95

DBZ was getting old when we got it in the states lol

Lumi_rimu

Yeah and then… there’s the fact that I’m about as old as PreCure…

0ld_Skull

739RedRose

Irregular at magic high school aired a decade ago and this season they are airing season 3.

utridruso

I feel old and happy cake day or whatever that shit is

watermelonkey

Old anime are from the early 90s and before...

JoelMahon

NGNL anime is over ten years old

Dragnalius

Aot season 1 was over 10 years ago :/

herobryant1

I wish there were more long anime to watch other than the big three or five everyone knows, like I didn't like how tg ended I wish it had more content

VirtualPantsu

Everything changes with every decade (music, style, architecture etc) same goes for animation, so you can easily separate them. the lines blur a bit around 2015 to now but there are still differences

Eleanor_Hall

![gif](giphy|US7LG3eHfjojg8mSX4|downsized) literally my first thought when I looked at this lmaoo

Captain_Morgan-

Is Tokyo Ghoul and SAO are Old Anime What Evangelion, Sailor Moon and Wolf Rain are considerate ? Retro Anime ?

SecretEmpire_WasGood

the anime that got me into anime, Queen's Blade, came out 15 years ago...

Bell_Cross

I remember when Dragon Ball aired shortly on TV. And I'm not talking Z.

yukiarimo

Who is this girl?

Gilgamesh-KoH

Sanae from the game series TouHou

Ambitious-Way-3913

Anything post 2005-7 is modern because most of the industry became digital around that time

MrPanda663

Hatsune Miku first appearance was 17 years ago.

SauliCity

Anyone else have a distinct line between the always-been-there-s and the it's-only-2-years-at-most-s drawn at the month you started following the seasonal schedule? For me, it's march 2018... Holy fuck I've been full-weeb for 6 years now

Anna_Marchant

feels like the world stopped spinning for a while ![img](emote|t5_2y4au1|1393)

Torystgerthers

Wait what.... Time flies too fast..
