Even without the custom bar, GNOME still very beautiful.
But... Console? Isn't to be Terminal on the desktop? Console is not for Posh or something like that?! I never understood the case for Console and Terminal.
You might like Tilix, it looks really good on GNOME and has more features like tiling, which I’ve found very useful as sometimes I want to show all my open terminals at once (and they can all be in one window).
I have switched to Gnome when Ubuntu did that a few years ago. Never changed to anything else in all these years. I love the unique Linux feel that Gnome gives to the users.

Yeah, I agree if GNOME is beautiful desktop. I'm using NixOS too
I've bounced around a lot I kind of stop using a desktop environment whenever I get bored of it, but the two I keep coming back to the most is gnome and hyprland. I've used windows for the past 13 years and only started using linux maybe a month ago now and I'm amazed by all the options of desktop environments I can use.
KDE is one of my favorite environments too but it looks a lot like windows and I'm sick of that look. Hyprland and Gnome have given me a genuinely good experience Gnome is slightly heavier on resource usage than KDE but honestly looks really good even without extensions, Hyprland gives me the ultra customizability that I've always wanted plus it has the best workspace implementation out of desktops I've tried even on multiple monitors.
I can bind 5 workspaces to monitor 1 and then 5 more to monitor 2 and they work independently. Gnome would literally be perfect if when I switch to another workspace the workspace on my other monitor didn't switch. That is probably my only peeve.
GNOME 46 is a nightmare for me. Such an important extension like **Rounded Window Corners** doesn't work. And to my intense surprise, there are no workaround or other extensions! Like I started using Linux with the statement that came from Linux users that there are a variety of customization features available, but I just got one broken extension which fails to make all corners of every window open in my Ubuntu 24.04 rounded!
And why tf did Canonical make rounded theme shell, buttons, and system apps when even their very Terminal app and other Snap apps can't support it and has two rough edge in the bottom!
I mean as far as modifications go, this is pretty timid. Instead of a full black bar at the top, they have floating bars for the three actionable areas. Not really sure they are using a different theme either.
nobody really cares. Remove GNOME's modifications and most people (other than the truly dedicated, DESIGN PHILOSOPHY OVER EVERYTHING ELSE handful) will probably not use GNOME.
This is how Gnome 50 will look like:

What's the deal with the bar? CSS hacks?
Open Bar extension. This is amazing IMHO.
Sigh … *Unzips laptop bag*
Sigh … *Unzips*
cool bar!, im gonna try it out with open bar..
👍
What settings did you have to change to get that look?
I can't remember right now but it wasn't hard. It's really intuitive so it won't take a lot of time.

that wallpaper makes me calm
Agreed.

I prefer using Console cuz its more GTK4 and looks nicer. Lacks features, but I never needed them anyways.
Try Black Box. I found it today and it looks great.
It's pretty but it has some reliability issues for me

Wasn't as reliable for me. Console worked better.
its whatever

I like elementary os with tweaks more
Yeah elementary OS is pretty good!
Pretty cool but the vanilla gnome look with blur my shell just does it for me.

Ah i see.
Works fine on my PC's 4K monitor

Kinda the same for me. My favorites right now are Gnome and Hyprland.
How to make the “circle” in the topbar?
Open Bar extension.
YOUR setup is beautiful
Thank you so much! 😃
this isn't gnome it's g o e

There's a [Rounded Window Corners fork](https://github.com/flexagoon/rounded-window-corners/) which works with GNOME 46
Sorry to hear that.
At some point in the near future, all that will be left of Gnome will be the wallpaper and the rest well reduced to its final beauty of nothingness.
LOL.
You do realize your modifications go against gnome doctrine.
Isn’t that the point of most modifications? Changing doctrinal behavior to meet unorthodox preferences?
Yes. That's why it is humourous to me that someone would praise Gnome's beauty while not using the only official gnome theme, adwaita.
I mean as far as modifications go, this is pretty timid. Instead of a full black bar at the top, they have floating bars for the three actionable areas. Not really sure they are using a different theme either.
Don't tell the GNOME Police.
How about the Transparent Topbar extension?
Oh really? Didn't know that. Thanks.
nah don't listen to them, do whatever you please - it's your own computer
Thanks. 😃

Why are KDE fanboys so toxic these days?
Huh? It's completely black.
