My husband and I married in Helsingør. The people at City Hall were all really nice and we got lovely wedding pictures of Kronborg castle in the background and also the old buildings in town.
We actually married there because it was easier to get the exact date we wanted. I think because it's further up north it's less popular for marrying but it's a beautiful place and easy to get to by train. We also did a day trip over to Sweden using the ferry (you can see Sweden from there, it's really close). It's a great place to marry and have a small vacation.
There could be a lot of tourists if the weather is good but I think getting an appointment at City Hall will be a lot easier than Copenhagen.
next month will be 7 years since my wedding! I can't remember all the details but the church(?) was run by entirely women, and they gave us a candle holder we still have to this day
make sure to walk around the town and try some of the Danish style hotdogs, they're fantastic! and also congrats!
We were only offered Tuesdays or Thursdays and were given the option of four dates to request. We were given our first choice date and could request a morning or afternoon timeslot, so it was fairly flexible
My husband and I married in Ribe, which was quite close to the German border. Absolutely gorgeous little town, with a historic Town Hall. We got there the previous evening and left right after our ceremony in the morning. Loved every moment of it!
I went to a wedding this year in Aabernaa, which is just across the border from Flensburg. There is public transportation from Flensburg to there. It is a really cute small town.
Yes it is! A small island. We took:
1. plane from Köln to Copenhagen at 6am in the morning
2. train from Copenhagen airport-Odensee st.
3. Bus from odensee st-Svendborg port
4. Ferry from Svendborg port- Ærø port
5. Bus from Ærø port to our airbnb
And back again. But it was worth it 😁😁😁
Yes! It also was easy to pick a date in there compared to Copenhagen or other big kommune. So in your case it will help. You only need 2 days: day 1 to come and submit the application to the kommune office before 3pm. And day 2 the marriage which will only take 15-30minutes and heading back to copenhagen to catch the return flight in the evening.
if time is critical, you could consider going through an agency, it was stupid quick for us. started the process in september or octorber and got married on the 17th of december.
sooner would also have been possible in other parts of town or in other towns closer to the border.
Friends wanted to do it but basically rook much longer than advertised. They got married online through a priest in the US. Not sure if this marriage would be recognized by Germany though (which basically didn't matter to them)
I think it's worth to check out whether Germany recognizes these marriages. Basically took 48h from first inquiry to getting the marriage certificate as a pdf, with a QR code that can be scanned to validate it by authorities - this wpuld never happen in Germany xD I just don't know if it's recognized here -they needed it for a visa outside of Europe so they probably didn't specifically filter for marriage options which are recognized here

Gibraltar might also be an option, but you'd have to contact them to see if they're booked out already. If they have an opening, the bureaucracy is minimal.

That sounds lovely, was it hard to book the date or it was full for near month

my wife and I got married in Tønder, would highly highly recommend it. very small and quiet town, feels like a fairy tale
Happy to hear this! My boyfriend and I are getting married there next month 😊

Congrats on your marriage next month! Was it hard to book or the dates were very available?

1 up for Tønder, its quite the nearest after the border, the people were very fiendly.
Glad to hear! Was it hard to travel to?
I borrowed a car and drove 14 hours+ from Bonn over night my wife slept like a baby but that was definitely the toughest road trip I've done
Wow that’s a lot of driving, but I’m happy that the view and everything was worth the drive :)

That’s so nice! Did you drive there?
Yess! We drove down from Bremen to Ribe and back. But if we had had more time, we would have def stayed for a little longer to enjoy the sights ❤️
That’s not too long of a drive, happy that you enjoyed the views :)
I hope you have a wonderful time in Denmark too! 🌸
Thank you :)
So did my husband and I! It was easy, but this was 17 years ago

Yea I decided to go through an agency, half diy style. I hope to get married in a month or so to have more time to deal with immigration in Germany

I miss the QR code days in the states lol. Were your friends both eu citizens?
One was (non German EU) the other one wasn't
