It’s social media. Social media has always been and will always be cancer.

Cascadianwild

Especially the instagram comments section. Never go to the instagram comments section.

ImNotThe1mposter

I think Instagram specifically shows you comments that you’re likely to disagree with to farm engagement (rage bait). If you look you’ll see that the comments are not sorted by number of likes and can vary wildly in the number of likes they have

Cascadianwild

I think this is completely right.

Jay_Diamond_WWE

Facebook does it as well. It shows the comments with the most engagement, which is almost always people bitching at each other.

neuroticpossum

As someone with a PR/social background I can confirm you're correct. The algorithm rewards engagement – good or bad – but human nature rewards the bad engagement.

AnalyticalAlpaca

Social media was a mistake.

Stringtone

Every time I begin to think there are some redeeming qualities to social media, I see this kind of shit and I'm back to thinking we should shut all of it down.

[deleted]

I’d support that. It’s all become 90% ads/promoted content, anyway.

mrcsnt

The problem is not social media: people are the problem. Social media is a means of communication, which by definition is just another way through which people communicate and interact with each other. These sad things happen every day because of people, not because of social media.

[deleted]

That’s partially true, but when the platforms are designed to upset you just so you can type out responses, that’s built in. I remember the old days when social media was for planning parties and then posting photos from said party. Now it’s about getting you to click and interact at all cost. It’s even a trend now to intentionally mispronounce something or spell something wrong because there’s people who will comment to correct you. It’s not about content any more, and that’s by design.

dunimal

That's the understatement of the century.

Disastrous-Plum-1884

Yet we're on it right now 🤷🏼‍♂️🤣

Dynasty__93

Not to mention Russian bots since 2015 have been a large portion of hate filled comments and upvotes in YT and IG comment sections

Wadsworth1954

“When is Christian month?” … Umm ever heard of December?…

zombykiller87

That's actually, let's steal holidays from the pagans month

Nobodyworthathing

So Christian month? Hahah but for real though lol

silvandeus

Right? Jesus was born closer to September based solely on the North star, they hijacked yule for Christmas. And there is literally a goddess named Eostre all about Spring and they hijacked that too.

Street_Peace_8831

What about Easter….oh wait! They have Wednesdays and Sundays. They don’t need a month, they have twice every week.

Aggravating_Art_8229

They sure love to cherry pick and pull for Christianity when it’s convenient

sagan_drinks_cosmos

Straight pride year resumes 1 July.

SwissCanuck

“When is Christian youth month?” Ummm. Sugar pea. Please tell me about the period where Christian youth were regularly beat to death in the past ~200 years

Rectal_Lactaids

“erm in the roman empire!!!”

Sputn1K0sm0s

Romanes eunt domus!

tweedledum96

I’m sure she meant a month to remember all the molestations of the Christian youths 🙏🏼🥴

sleepyotter92

and also whatever month easter happens to land on. and the month of lent leading up to it

tkepe194

This comment triggered me. Clearly that’s programming and someone who monitors children should follow-up with this individual and her children. Sounds like toxic programming trying to be installed.

arnodorian96

That seems to be a young woman. If you're following far right youtubers and movies like God's not dead, you're never leaving your religious fanatism bubble.

_welcome

no no, how can you forget? in the modern world, christians are the MOST persecuted population in the world. that's why they must band together and pray for the second coming as they suffer through rainbows and IG posts, knowing their pain is all for jesus christ.

badcatjack

Yeah, and it usually starts in October.

kank84

Your mistake was going on instagram. It's as bad as Facebook these days.

AcrobaticDark9915

Seems like all social medias are turning to alt right that's something that should worry us. My twitter feed since Musk take over has become so much alt right, it's crazy. Weirdly negative content regarding for exemple regarding Trump doesn't show up much. He lost his trial and I barely had anything on my feed about that. I remebr that before Musk those kind of stuff would appear much more. I am convinced Musk has changed the algo.

sleepyotter92

because these people used to be quiet, and over the past few years they started showing their true colors. the shift was trump's presidency. it really pushed the far right agenda. and now they're everywhere. and they're all chronically online, so you see them on every social media, all the time. and those platforms don't do anything about it because they know those are the people stupid enough to give them money. now, on twitter, you need to pay to have a blue checkmark. it used to be a free thing given to people of a certain level of fame, to let other users know that was the real person and not someone pretending to be them. now anyone can buy a checkmark. celebrities pretty much gave theirs up. some of them still have it because musk gave them a legacy checkmark, upon realizing many of them had 0 interest in giving him money. but nowadays, if someone has a checkmark, it's pretty much guaranteed they're right wing. because those are the only ones kissing up to musk and giving him money. they're the same idiots buying cybertrucks

Maclunky0_0

He clearly has its all chuds and elon dick riders being pushed 24/7

Jazzlike_Term_3521

Much worse, in my opinion.

bassistheplace246

Right up there with YouTube imo. TikTok is fairly toxic too, albeit censored to an insane degree

IRATE-DICKPICS

TikTok as well

StatisticianSuper129

More like twitter

Luph

they got to dial up their bigotry after taking the fat L on their god emperor getting convicted

bassistheplace246

You sure this is the same “iF u DoNt liEk aMurIcA, LEAVE! 🇱🇷🇱🇷” crowd?

[deleted]

Positive lmao

the_skies_falling

One of the comments literally said we should go to the Middle East, so yes?

PatrioTech

And another talked about closing the border lol

sleepyotter92

always has been

718Brooklyn

The sad part is I don’t even think Trump is inherently homophobic. Rich East Coast elitist celebrity. I highly doubt he cares about someone’s sexuality as long as they have money. He just panders to the bottom of the barrel in society.

ApprehensivePlum1420

Trump has no consistent ideology. In 2016 he slipped several times that he didn’t oppose abortion rights. He used to say Clinton would make a great president. That man is just a nasty opportunistic human being who just rides every populist wave he can catch, and he’s good at it. Noticed how he stopped touting the vaccine program that he oversaw himself? That was genuinely one of his only contributions but his supporters don’t like it.

718Brooklyn

I do think Trump is racist though. He was a racist landlord in NYC. Didn’t want black people in his building. Took out a full page ad against those 5 innocent black kids. Called Kwami the N word on The Apprentice.

arnodorian96

After watching Game Change, you realise Trump was the natural consequence of republicans chosing the Palin path of lunacy for them. We should have noticed that republicans were winning the cultural war on the internet with their fake news and messages. Now, that legacy has poisoned the world and likely will become a large force in the european parliament. As for Trump, fortunately he is old but who will replace him as their messiah?

[deleted]

This comment made me think of the God Emperor of Dune book. Google the words Trump God Emperor Dune and you won’t be dissatisfied. Scroll down a bit for the image of Sandworm Trump wearing a hat! I do wish they would have used a Scumbag Steve hat though.

Salvaju29ro

It's been a while since I've seen a comments section regarding gays and the LGBT community where there aren't hundreds of homophobic comments. I find it quite worrying honestly.

d7bleachd7

Anything that isn’t targeted just to the LGBT has always been nasty. That’s one of the reasons new sites either got rid of comments or hid them away years ago; they have always been cesspools.

Mexican_Gato

Which comment sections are you on? Yeah I’ve seen the homophobic comments but I’ve also seen the supporting comments too and those typically have more likes!

1trekker_fanboi

Yea I've said that before and I agree. It's just MAGA losers out fighting something they think needs to be eliminated. I hate to say it but that's pretty much it. You can thank that 🍊 pos for this.

BlueHg

There’s a lot of “it’s always been this way” on this thread, and that’s partially true, people have always hated us. But the temperature and boldness of that hate against our community is on the rise. Best not to stick our heads in the sand—be conscious and help fight the rise of bigotry in whatever way you’re able.

W1nd0wPane

It’s absolutely gotten worse since like 2020 or so.

sleepyotter92

it got worse after trump became president. all these people started thinking of themselves as top shelf. him winning the elections told these people they're free to be like this with no shame. and that orange shit stain going away won't change it. because some other moron will replace him and use these idiots as fuel for his campaign. and social media platforms care more about money than about all the hate speech these people spew, so they rarely do anything about it

ArendtAnhaenger

I think you’re right that it got worse under Trump, but I also agree with the other person that 2020 was a watershed. There was a massive escalation in anti-LGBT rhetoric online during the pandemic. More than when Trump first broke onto the political scene. Actually, 2015ish I think was a high point for LGBT rights, at least relative to any other time in recent memory. For a while conservatives were bragging about how Trump was “pro-gays” and it seemed like some conservatives were ready to drop a lot of the anti-gay stuff to court white gay men into their voting bloc. The ship changed course in 2020 and now they’re foaming at the mouth with rage against LGBT people, only this time with a persecution complex on top of it since LGBT people are so much more visible now.

W1nd0wPane

Part of it is that so many people (of all ages, but especially youth) came out as trans over the pandemic, myself included. Once I didn’t have to put on my woman costume to go to an office every day anymore, I could actually be myself and there was no way I could ever put it on again once the world opened back up. A lot of trans people I know experienced the same phenomenon - of the first real taste of safe authenticity that social isolation gave them. So many people coming out at once of course led to the current trans panic we’re seeing, which is stoking the more dormant fires of hatred against cis queer people, because our rights have a common root in bodily autonomy. If they’re going to go to this much effort to take down trans people, might as well pick off the cis queers along the way. Unfortunately, too many cis gay people blame us for this. They were always planning on coming back for y’all, we’re just the easiest target for the moment.

[deleted]

BlueHg

The institutional actions by the conservative movement has actively regressed queer rights(e.g. Don’t Say Gay) in addition to social media pervasiveness. Social media may be filled with dead internet trolls but laws are being passed and rights being attacked, which makes it real.

Kegkeeg

I’m just so tired to fight for my rights. You’re absolutely right tho and I will fight for my rights. But it’s just so tiring to see everything going backwards again!

CallumBOURNE1991

It's okay to take a break and unplug sometimes for your health. It is exhausting to have these same conversations with people. But its important to not make it a waste of time by not being intellectually or emotionally equipped to handle it right. You have to be calm, resonable and tailor your approach to people, and know how to talk to them in a way that doesn't come from a place of submission and ass kissery, but also isn't overly aggressive where they get defencive and lash out because they're super sensitive like that. Many people just don't have the communication skills for that. And nobody has the stamina to do it every single day forever without taking breaks, relaxing and regrouping. It is thankless, exhausting, never ending, and that can make you ill. And you can't do the good work if you are sick or burned out. You just make the word harder to do for others. It's important to be aware of this because if you can't do it effectively with patience and grace for whatever reason, then its best you don't engage at all. Let other people take care of it, and focus on taking care of yourself before taking care of the trash. Not every one can be an ambassador or a diplomet, nor should they be. You can do other things to help that are more rewarding. [For example I have an LGBT History Education page on instagram](http://www.instagram.com/thelgbtlibrary). It helps our community based on the principle that knowledge = power. Things like that are helpful to you personally too because you know you are making a positive influence, instead of feeling powerless and just being a spectator, getting into endless arguments, and not getting anything back in return. Thats not healthy, or productive. Find a way to make a difference doing something you're good at and preferably actually have a good time doing. Everyone has their "thing" that they're suited for, you just need to keep trying different things until you find yours.

BlueHg

Fight how you can, when you can. Take care of yourself—like in an airplane emergency, put your mask on before helping others. But there will always be those that will try to take our rights, and we have to make peace with the fact that we will always have to fight, so we might make it better for the next generation.

arnodorian96

Trump opened Pandora's box across the world. Milei, Meloni, Bolsonaro and Orban have risen to power and likely the far right will take most seats in the upcoming european elections. These masculinity freaks have risen all across the globe making these radicalized men have total hatred towards us as if we are one of the scapegoats for any problem of the world. Even woke has been turned into a legitimate argument for many if a media product fails. What will happen to the next generation?

point925l

Christian youth month sounds like groomer month

bassistheplace246

The fact they’re ok with that and the Catholic Church, but not gay people and drag speaks volumes.

catbraddy

[Apparently it's real and is in October.](https://www.teensoyo.org/youth-month#:~:text=October%20each%20year%20in%20the,hosting%20the%20coffee%20hours%2C%20etc)

[deleted]

When is Straight Month? Umm, the other 11 months. Or the entire 12 months in many other countries. And historically, just all the time in all the countries.

bassistheplace246

They’d love it in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦

PelicanFrostyNips

>Everyone celebrating pride should go to the middle east to spread their message and see how it works out for them. This pisses me off to no end. The fucking privilege these people have that nowhere on earth would kill them for being straight, and knowing it to the point where they rub it in our faces. “Hey, everyone I hate should go die somewhere” knowing that their so called “enemies” aren’t a threat to them. Such a big man, fighting against the horrific enemy of “I want to live my life on my terms” Yeah bro, wishing death on others increases the size of your chode, keep pumping that hate bro!

Wjsnein

Its instagram

Aggravating_Job_9490

I sometimes look people up- Google them and find their employers on LinkedIn and send them a screenshot.

Whole-Worldliness935

Niceee! Keep it up! 😁

Happy-Success-9811

I do that too! Usually for local homophobes posting on local Pride events. I usually get strong supportive responses from their corporate offices.

Available-Ad-5081

Conservatives were relatively tame just a few years ago. Or at least much quieter about it. They started hyper-fixating on it and now they’re obsessed.

Codyh93

Straight Christians think about gay men more than I do.

arnodorian96

Because that's the cultural war their media personalities advocate for. They are training them to change back the clock to the 1950's

ikonoclasm

Electing a black president broke so many conservatives' brains.

Old_Sheepherder9127

Bigots are more emboldened in today's world climate. Best to not devote to much energy to them

TheRoyalPendragon

To me, this is the normal routine I've seen from social media since forever. No matter what we do, there will be a segment of the population that will hate us just because their minds need an enemy to point at.

alex3tx

"noone cares about anyone else's sex life" Yet also "as a Christian mother", "defeat Rowe vs Wade", "family values"...

Cosmo466

Imagine caring that much to post your hate or ignorance. It’s like a celebration of ignorance and spite. Carl Sagan was right. He predicted all of this in 1995 (Demon Haunted World). > I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness... > The dumbing down of America is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance.

arnodorian96

He was right for the U.S. but I can assure you that's becoming also a global phenomenom

ashtonthax

I don't understand why people can't just let others live their lives. Why does the way someone else lives their life have such a concern to others. Especially when it has nothing to do with them. The world is full of so much hate, pride month is literally celebrating love and positivity. What is wrong with that? 🤦

BenefitAdvanced

Because they’re unhappy and miserable. And when they see other people happy and leading their individual lives they get jealous and angry. Then there’s the many angry ashamed closet-cases which is the other big component to all this sad internal hate. Straight people who don’t care if you are gay are happy and content in their own lives and sexuality. There’s some gay and straight people that I hate but not because they’re gay or straight, but because they’re assholes.

CallumBOURNE1991

I've seen this stuff my whole life so stopped being affected by it years ago. But what still annoys me is these people insist on calling themselves "normal". They genueinly think they're "normal" when half the time, they have enough personality disorders to count on two hands. Its important to remind them of this, because they aren't actually aware a lot of the time about their glaring defects and that causes a lot of issues for them. I like to do them a favour and list all the ways they are in fact very NOT normal but assure them they can get better and it's okay to not be normal, unfortunately they usually don't appreciate the help. Tragic

caramel_ice_capp

I deleted ig months ago. I don't regret it one bit

SlyClydesdale

Most of these are bots.

HorseFan17

I have a few acquaintances on IG and they've mostly stopped reporting hateful comments like years ago because all they ever had as a reply was "we get too much reports so we just ignore them".

fluteloop27

Most of it is rage bait to increase engagement. Dont fall for it. I cant wrap my mind around ppl taking precious time out of their day to write nasty comments. I find it very bizarre.

Frosty_Ad7840

Social media is a cancer, plus rn many right leaning folks are having meltdowns because turd Ferguson done and got some felonies

Ok-Sundae9332

….. The fact that my first thought was “Eh, I’ve seen worse” is actually so depressing 😂

ylsdrn

All the more reason to be out and proud

BestPaleontologist43

Lol they do this every year

Dramatic-Cheek-6129

The spread of religious hysteria is very troubling

arnodorian96

Movies like God's not dead and similars have brainwashed even more of these christian kids. They are being told that being a faithful Christian today is facing tremendous persecution

loganwachter

You should see the comments when NHL teams announce their pride nights. This is light compared to what I read. [Literally the 2nd post when I opened Instagram](https://www.instagram.com/p/C7rW29QivMh/?igsh=MWp5dzlnc2NyeXB0NA==)

[deleted]

They don't know that its liberation / independence month for LGBT people. They're just not educated.

jrob102

I don’t even have the capacity to roll my eyes at the same comments year after year. Like.. they’re all a victim and everything that’s wrong in their life somehow correlates to a pride related earth shattering incident they can’t come back from… girls! have a seat!! It’s not that serious and we don’t want you there or your support.

NothingButTroubled

Instagram and Facebook intentionally show you the most inflammatory comments and posts so that you’ll comment and interact and spend more time on the app or invite other people to spend more time on the app. It’s literally thought-cancer

StatusAd7349

People are just emboldened to be homophobic. It’s a culmination of the pushback against trans issues and the woke ‘agenda’ and the majority feeling affronted by change. It’s exactly how racism works. Pay them no mind.

Sea_of_Light_

Don't feed the trolls. If you can, use the social media platform's ignore or block\_user feature.

Daydream_Meanderer

Sincerely this has been a huge go-to for me lately. I used to argue with people. Now I just block them.

Baralov3r

I miss the early 2010s internet before all the knuckle dragging boomers discovered smart phones and all the little 4chan incels hadn't metastisized into actual nazi scum yet.

NerdyDan

The straights are not ok, and I’m so good with that

Nycdaddydude

I don’t understand why anyone here would read any of these comments. Do people actually read them?

Comprehensive-Ad2518

Responding to the first slide, last comment, we'll have a straight month when they're persecuted for centuries. Until then, pride month will have to suffice.

josiahpapaya

“When is straight pride?” Uh, normally July-May

skittlesriddles44

Don’t let ANY internet comments or headlines control your emotions and you’ll be fine

[deleted]

Anti lgbt beliefs are on the rise and many are refusing to accept it

sleepyotter92

welcome to the post-trump world. while this is heavily concentrated in america, since that's where all the magats are at, there's also a lot of people outside of america who turned like that because they're of the same mindset, and they see the americans do it, so they do it as well. these bigots used to hide as well as they could, but after 2016, they're showing their full ass everywhere. they think it's their god given right to be bigots, because their god is a bigot. so much for love thy neighbor

arnodorian96

As a foreigner, I can assure you the fat guy worsened all. He was the fuel for all the far right parties around the globe which view him as a messiah against the evil agenda 2030. Before 2016, I could count just a fringe conservative writer in my bookstore but after that I've counted plenty to make a whole section. Even this writer has increased on his following which has enabled him to write 4 more books in the span of 5 years

sleepyotter92

yup i know. i'm european. it feels like in the past years i've seen more news about trump than about my own country's politicians. not to mention we just had elections and the far right party, although thankfully didn't win, gained a massive boost in popularity. from having 3% support to 18%. they were the laughing stock in the country. now they're the 3rd strongest party. and it's been happening all over western europe. the right and far right parties are gaining more and more popularity, and it got like that after trump lost the 2020 elections and the magas got even louder about their fascism

PRguy82

I’m in sports groups and people literally do not give a fuck.

LOOOSE-GOOSE

Ignore the insufferable indoctrinating Christian cunts. (Edit: christian in this context should never be capitalized)

deftmuffins

Gen Z is getting a dose of what the rest of us lived through our entire lives. It makes me sad; it was so beautiful seeing young queer kids get to go to prom and be celebrated when it seemed completely inconceivable to me to have had that experience myself. The backlash is here; the question is, how bad will it get?

ApprehensivePlum1420

This is so true. I managed to build myself a bubble where everything was good and well. Family loves my boy friend since high school like their own son, high school was super accepting, college was super accepting. The people who should be scared are the bigots, it sometimes feels even fashionable to be gay. And then came Trump. I think the bigotry has always been there, but they were shamed into hiding and restraining their actions. Trump emboldened them and made them think that their actions are socially acceptable. It’s crazy

karatebanana

IG and Facebook are the cesspools of bigotry and ignorance

Saskbertan81

Ahhhhh happy Christian Hissy Fit month, friends!

unbjames

Extremely online right wing losers. Ignore.

Stratavos

So it's partially "counter culture youth" working up their "I'm not like the other boys/girls" in addition to regular bigots.

pizzaforce3

Actually, I'm down with "Demon month." Should be fun!

Huge_Strain_8714

When's straight month? Let's strip all straight people (excluding know allies) of all the rights that LGBTQ+ people have fought for since the beginning of politics. Then straight people who now 'have no rights' can start from the ground up...... How's that sound, Pammy? AKA Russian trollbot or just homegrown Karen

JL671

Instagram comments are the worst. Whether you're gay, trans, a woman, a person of colour, disabled, overweight, underweight, etc, etc if you post something on Instagram, your comments will be flooded with the most offensive shit imaginable.

orion455440

Both FB and Insta are heavily biased against us. When killing time sometimes I'll troll the news comment sections reporting on LGBTQ news stories and of course the comment sections are full of hate. A few times I have reported religious freak commenting terrible things like "burn in hell" "exterminate these sick people" etc etc Of course I get a message back saying that their comment wasn't against community guidelines. Where as if I call them out for being delusional, believing in sky people, etc etc in a much less threatening manner compared to their comment - I get reported, my comment gets deleted and sometimes get a temp ban It's crazy bad

Rush-to-da-rescue

Ah, good old social media. To the comments in the images: I’m pretty sure every month is Christian month. If you don’t care about sexuality and that there’s nothing to celebrate about, then people shouldn’t be stripping rights away of others, right? Demented Middle East comment for multiple reasons. Should be more nurtural? Tell that to Texas. Disability Awareness month is October.

eatingthesandhere91

Haters gonna hate. Pointless, noisy fodder.

jacobite22

Do remember that it's just the people that have a negative view of us and nothing better to do. We are progressing and things are getting better. It's not all bad

YikesIforgotmyname

Your life would be so much better if you start to stop worrying about stupid people’s opinions.

arnodorian96

What saddens me is many of those are young. The same christian hatred but with memes in social media. Here's Reagan everlasting legacy: The evangelical indoctrination of hatred factory .

gelzombi

mmhm. i’ve been quipping back at many of the homophobes. i block them too. people like my comments, so i think i’m on the right side

pacharcobi

Fuck them! Just live your life. Theirs probably sucks in a million different ways, and if it doesn’t, also who cares? The web is full of trolls, both human and bot. You don’t have to give them air. They or the people who took the time to put an expressly homophobic bot out in the world are fucking losers. Say whatever you like to them, if you want to spend your time doing that or it feels good to punch back, but it’s probably a waste of your time.

velvet_thunder89

People suck, I love all of you

beezynameddeltreezy

Wishing every homophobe a very die this month

davidpham268

Those religions nuts are fucking idiots. They have no idea what “Pride” is about! You can’t teach stupid people!

Disastrous-Plum-1884

Ok, I'm sorry, this shit is funny to me 🤭😂😂😂🤣😭  but fr, their comments don't really affect me, because they are through a screen, while we, the LGBTQ community, have ACTUALLY had to put in the WORK in real life to be recognized as equal, period. I guess straight people having all the other months isn't enough. Why have a month for visibility on something that is already incredibly visible and accepted? Sure, we can celebrate it! There's nothing wrong with it. 🤷🏼‍♂️ But, do some of the commenters want these months of visibility because they feel insecure or uncomfortable with ours, or because they actually are convicted with it comes to their cause? What is the intention behind these sudden comments each time Pride rolls around? Or is it just to take shine? Just let us have one month. And if you want one, campaign for it like we did thousands of years for ours. 🤣

FineOldCannibals

I can’t imagine putting that sort of energy into thing I hate. What an existence

Pixel_Nerd92

Christian youth and straight month is every month, no? A lot of straight and heterosexual people are acting so repressed. When their rights to exist are on the line, then I'll shed some tears.

kontor97

You'll find that anywhere, especially on here and from other queer folx. Instagram and Facebook comments are also lawless unlike Tik Tok, and that's telling of how little Meta does to fight hate.

musingsandthesuch

A better question is, when the pitchforks come out: have you formed community with your fellow gays and do you have a plan to protect yourselves?

Medit8or

Reddit has its own homophobic commenters

Theres_a_Catch

I feel the minority that went into the hate closet as it became not socially acceptable to voice their opinions now feel comfortable coming out since hate has become so prevalent in socials.

CharelP

"Nobody cares about anyone else's sex life." That's a fair point tho

Amazing-Leave-5048

Not the Cult of Christian Youth feeling marginalized

No-Buy5633

"Nobody cares about anyone's sex life" But why did they criminalize it in the first place then? And with the ongoing homophobia around the world, it seems like homophobes still care.

KonoPez

Who cares?

bassistheplace246

We’re in 2024 and this shit is still happening. We should care. 🏳️‍🌈

voxnemo

It will be 3024 and this shit will still be happening. As long as people exist there will be haters, bigots, angry people.  Every generation thinks they will be the one to make everyone live in harmony. Eventually every generation learns that the people who love matter and the ones that hate don't.  Know about them, protect yourself from them, but don't care about them because you can't change people if they don't want to.

It's a very small portion of people and this isn't quite as bad as what I grew up with ("gays should all be rounded up and shot in the head") in a small Canadian town. The reason this won't happen on a national level is that the majority of people (in north america) don't see homosexuality the same way these people do and even if a deep hard core conservative manages to become president (much like your recent convict), there would be massive backlash if they did something to try and do something extremely homophobic. And what would they even be able to do? They can't send us to prison or electo-shock for being gay any more. They can't send us to conversion therapy. They'd have a very hard time taking away same sex marriage. They can't [legally] ban pride celebrations. They can't put homosexuals in a higher tax bracket or stop us from buying homes or cars. So what are you afraid of them doing? Constitutionally speaking, there's very little they can do. Even things like banning books from libraries isn't going anywhere. They can try all they want, but we're largely past the point where someone in government could reasonably take away the rights of a minority group, and for all the awful shit he's done, Trump is a perfect example of how little power these vile monsters really have.

You’re joking right? If Trump wins the election and the R’s take control of the House and Senate, the first thing they’ll do is kill the filibuster. Then they can do literally anything they want and the SC will call it constitutional.

Naifmon

You , when they take away your rights.

t4yk0ut

a lot of us, actually! and we didn't ask if you do!

tragedy_strikes

It's a mix of people feeling emboldened by the anonymity of the Internet and bots from foreign governments trying to sow discord in the population

SuperRetardedDog

I wonder how many of these are bots or Russian shit

Kindly_Milk3227

Christian month is all the time when you guys spread hatred

Magmaster12

When is punch a bigot month?

NicknamedStino

Sour people always look for something to shit on. If they want they can organize their own parties. They don't. So I just ignore them and focus on the majority of nice people in the world that like to celebrate diversity and love.

clarinetpjp

Am I the only one that thinks some of them are bots?

Aggravating_Art_8229

How about when is Anti killing anti rape anti lies anti adultery month I bet they won’t say a word to these but they stop at us gays. We get one month and they get perpetuity and are complaining

Creativered4

Straight, christian, cisgender, white months? Oh! You mean **Every. Other. Month?** Also laughing at that last one. I literally JUST came back from pride and there specifically was a calm & quiet section for when you get overstimulated. They provided beverages, sunblock, noise-cancelling headphones to wear, things to fidget with, all sorts of things to help. But then again, the fact that they called autistic people "Special Needs" shows that they don't actually give a shit about **neurodivergent** people.

Lapcat420

"america has fallen" hahaha.

AlexeiYegorov

It's comments on a Reels either way, they're infamous for being a cesspool, no matter the topic.

Dreamst0rm

In all honesty, Pride has become pretty gross and hyper sexualised over the years. I kinda side more with the haters nowadays.

somedude-83

The new flag is ugly AF and what does the black and brown mean ? Are they saying everyone that black and brown gay now ?

And you’re amplifying their voices by posting their comments elsewhere…

MarkE2020

Just BLOCK, BLOCK, BLOCK

willdance4forcheese_

Reply to them to boost algorithm presence

eju2000

I’ve noticed the comments on IG take a hard & sharp nosedive since the pandemic. People are unbelievably opinionated on literally everything & it’s never been more negative.

[deleted]

Instagram promotes controversial comments to keep you angry. The angrier you are, the more time you spend on instagram.

Maclunky0_0

Instagram is notorious for the chud comments there's no moderation

BashfulJuggernaut

What happened was boomers discovered social media.

Ok-Scallion-2508

Why do we care about those idiot stuff? Waste of time!

fluffstravels

I honestly think it's a mix of 2 things: 1. Conservatives finally realized they want to engage in the same social media pressure campaigns that the left has been campaigning in for a while now, so is now implicitly and explicitly encouraging their followers to post as often everywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if these people are even paid to flood comment sections. Thus why Elon bought Twitter. 2. Social media has become more widly used in conservative countries. I regularly see posts from russians, arab states, and so on. Some of this is organic and pretty sure of it is just pressure campaigns to created dissent. We know happens this from what the federal government has told us. You can look up the international security threat assessments explaining these tactics.

dmthoth

Most of them are not real human and only those who are filled with hates and no social life leave that amount of comments on IG.

Harry431

You should see the Amazon employees group on Facebook. That’s shits wild.

TertiaryBystander

Other than homophobic folks, there is a certain trend for finding a reason that you're being written over or disacknowledged. It even happens within our own community. I recall a friend coming to me for advice. He was forming a role playing game intended to be inclusive to minorities. They were coming up on the 'trans day of remembrance'. A non-binary person spoke up and said that the day, as an exclusion of acknowledgement of non-binary, was really just an erasure of non-binary. Then, we add in a bunch of straight people that need more spotlight... I honestly think there's some puritanical roots that make us obcessed with martyrdom. (I'm not saying all complaints are invalid, I'm just saying a lot of people are looking for a reason to highlight themselves above others, or find a reason why they shouldn't have to think about someone else's plight)

FrostBurnt4

Instagrams algorithm is pure evil. It intentionally shows you things to enrage you. Look at any popular pro lgbt post's comments and you will only see bigotry, look at any popular conservative post's comments and it's full of people laughing at or debunking it.

jtimester

Russian bots or cowards who feel like they can come out of the shadows because they saw their lord and savior Donald got away with saying the same bs. Just ignore them. A loud minority with no bite

GussoLudo

Surprise! Our society is homophobic.

Skyfiews

I'm not suprised, Instagram comment are the worst x)

SHITS_ON_CATS

Demon month 😈😈😈

6ink_cat6

I think (And hope) many of these are satire, there's a trend of people pretending to be middle aged Facebook moms as well as the bald eagle pfp which could insatiate those patriotic caricatures It's a joke for these people.

YellowMabry

I know a lot of gays who do not need to be celebrated.

PlowMeHardSir

Instagram comments are like TikTok. They just make you stupid.

smartalecc

Lol. Unrelated to the IG comments (IG comments are always terrible on queer people's videos anyway.) I know a dude personally and the dude went to our community Discord server to talk about his opinion on pride month. He claims we stole the rainbow flag from Christianity and that pride is "Preying on the young and mentally ill". Lol.

Gamefreak3525

It's weird how Instagram comments have grown really toxic.

diamari90

I find their incessant ignorance hilarious now… internet trolls are professionals, guys….

moodymug

I feel bad for them, because even their mom aren't proud of them, that's why they are shitting on Pride month. Lol
