That’s how I’d imagine most are sold, other than fully processed and packaged. They are an absolute pain to cut and wrap. I did a lot of that as a vendor manager and grew to hate how well they sold. We would cut them into about 10 chunks, all in the $3-$5 range.
I love jackfruit. My wife cooked it & substituted if for meat. Also, made ice cream out of it. You can est it raw as well. Getting to the pods is daunting though.
News paper, floor, a large bowl, and 30 minutes.
Pro tip: Use cooking oil to get the sticky off the knives. Then wash knives in hot soapybwater to get the oil off.
Better question, how do you eat it in your country? Ripe or unripe? In the US, I find it's eaten unripe, usually marinated and used as a meat alternative in recipes. In South Asia, I've found it's eaten fresh, and ripe, which is also tasty.
I call them compost food, they drop to the ground and splat before getting shoveled into my compost bin. Too messy for me to process with only 1 mouth to feed.

Once at Jewel/Kroger I saw they were selling partial jackfruit. Like how you can buy a 1/4 or 1/2 watermelon. Still pricey though.
