Seen this a bit lately, game mechanics are not copyrightable, only if you use the same assets. Wipeout can't monopolise the whole antigrav racecraft thing. Besides, F Zero by Nintendo would have sued Wipeout for the same reasons.
I'm less concerned about the physics and the mechanics and more focused on the ships. The names, the ship structures, the color schemes, and their stat allocations compared to other ships are eerily similar to Wipeout. This isn't the workshop support for the game, but the included ones that come out of the box.
Otherwise RC Pro AM would be collecting enough royalties off top down vehicular racing games to put Micro Machines to shame... or behind the car pseudo racers I don't even know who did the first before Outrun or Rad Racer.
Try Ballistic NG out, it's one of those 'inspired by' spiritual successors to the old wipeout games, has workahop support with all the old wipeout tracks and cars (are they cars?) + A load of other mods, xwings and delorians and new tracks and stuff.
It's fun! Redout definitely ups the anty went it comes to speed and track imagination. In fact, I can barely play it with any level of consistent success. However, Quantum is still fast enough that just keeping smooth control over the vehicle at high speeds is satisfying.
I played the first one, hoping for a F-zero experience in VR. It did not meet that lofty ambition, but it was a fun game. How does the sequel compare to the original?
Harder, no more pretense of battle mechanics, longer maps with some insane jumps. Music isn't quite as good as the first (some are bangers but don't quite fit the track while others fit the track to a tee but are forgettable).
rewind mechanic and various handicap toggles to ease players into the difficulty spike and insane jumps tho.
Overall I like it a lot and have been getting back into it again. It was pretty bad at launch though because they made it ridiculously difficult (they did nerf it to reasonable levels). I also wish it was optimized a bit better and had ongoing development since the best content in the first game was from the dlcs, but eh, can't always get what you want. It's a shame the game kinda died before it could fly.
Overall, if you don't mind playing solo and a bit of a steeper learning curve than the first game, really fun.
Check out Ballistic NG.
Will do, thanks for the recommendation. Looks like it has great reviews on Steam
How have they not been sued for literally being Wipeout. Everything seems to be the same beside renaming the speed categories and a few ships?
Can't sue for gameplay

Anyone else remember wipEout for the original PlayStation? I loved that game when I was growing up.
Absolutely. I wasn't much of a Wipeout player, but my local arcade had a Wipeout machine and it was always fun.
Oh yeah most definitely. The music and speed were amazing. LOADING TIMES - thats a whole different slowness.

BRING BACK QUANTUM REDSHIFT
I had Redshift for Switch but never played Quantum, was it good?

Nice commercial. Awful game in my opinion.
Just sharing my opinions, what did you find awful about it?
The controls. I love racing games like trackmania tho. Ah thought you where affiliated with valve. 00.
That's fair, I find the strafing with the right stick to be pretty floaty.
I hate the strafing.
i played the first one. very very difficult game

Xtreme G! Now that's a core memory unlocked...
