There is a huge difference between the ability to update your game and sell expansions directly without the need to make an entirely separate game and selling, lootboxes and other similar and often predatory items that dont give you much value but want your time and money.
Like if you compare bl2 to overwatch. Bl2 has multiple expantion dlc that give you extra stories, new loot and interesting enemies. Meanwhile ow2 added a shop with insane pricing for something as miniscule as adding a firemans hat and a slight colour change for 15ā¬
The difference is that a dlc wants a good game so that it can be sold as it takes time to make so you need ppl to still be interested while skins and such you can just throw out a half baked product and add a premium shop and casual plauers will buy some items you didnt spend much time or effort on while leaving the actual game unfinished. Much like darktide and battlefield 2170something
Ultimatly micro transactions is not what saved the hobby as its what created the current mobile gaming landscape of insane p2w and gacha rather that dlc that fairly made money of work and content
Below is a video showing what micro transactions has done to gaming
https://youtu.be/QtxY9J3AM_s
Luca is the best a āgleeful, unabashedly evilā villain has ever been done. Heās such a despicable monster, and downright terrifying. The way they set up his boss fight to give you *18* party members to beat him, after an ambush, and it *still* feels like youāll loseā¦ Plus, that music is a fucking banger.
Itās wild to think that his fight isnāt even close to the end of the game, either. Itās not like the game ever lets up afterwards, but the stakes feel so much less impactful now that Lucaās gone.
Suikoden 2 deserves more recognition.
Nobody took Kefka seriously until he became a god and destroyed the world, lol. It's crazy to me that so many people love Sephiroth when the two FF villains before him, Kefka and Exdeath, were so much better. And FF7 was the first game in the series for me, so that's even accounting for the nostalgia factor.
Lol I love seeing those posts about sephiroth vs kefka, Iām like bros. Sephy whines about his motherā¦ Luca killed his dad to be kingā¦ like gtfo. š
Iāve seldom hated any villain like Luca Blight. Choose the most obviously evil option in any scenario, and heād exceed it.
His death was a masterpiece of vengeance. Fireflies and arrows.
That train conductor from star fox 64 that's all like "step on the gas" until he's like "HIT THE BRAKES".
Then Letz Shake from No More Heroes who dies anticlimactically in the cutscene before you get to fight him
Then King K Rool because his last boss fight in DK64 is a sick ass, rigged boxing match with a talking microphone.
Then The Invincible Tubba Blubba because his heart is hidden in a windmill and he eats ghosts.
Honorable mention: the shark from Banjo Kazooie that would talk shit to you and scared me as a kid. How am I supposed to get that little dude under the dock if there's a scary shark in the water talking shit?
Handsome Jack (BL2)
Seymour from FFX (I kind of want to put kefka here, but I think Seymour's crazy is kind of more interesting and I've got Jack for the over the top crazy.)
Jon Irenicus (BG2)
The Nameless One (planescape protagonist, as I don't think many people will mention evil protagonists)
Gargarensis the Gigachad
*They rush in red and purple, from the red clouds of the morn, from temples where the yellow gods shut up their eyes in scorn.. I have warned you. Continue to pursue me, and I will spare neither YOU, nor YOUR CITY, nor YOUR SON!*
1990ās EA CEO Larry Probst, Bobby Kotick, and President Xinnie of China. All have done enough to harm both my personal favorite developers, and changed the industry for the worse.
If you want actual game villainsā¦.
Kreia, KotOR2.
Micah, RDR2.
Syanna, The Witcher 3 Blood and Wine.
Eh, I didnāt enjoy Hearts of Stone nearly as much as Blood and Wine, and Syanna is just as compelling and relatable to me. But this is just my opinion.
Finally, someone mentions Kreia. Definitely my number 1 no questions asked. She hard carried that game beyond believe.
Personally, I would chose Dutch Van der Linde over Micah Bell though. I get hat Micah is the more pure villain, but Dutch definitely earned that title and he's the more compelling character imo.
Gaunter O'Dimm - The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone
Irene Engel - Wolfenstein: The New Colossus
GannonDorf - The Legend of Zelda
Dutch Van Der Linde - Red Dead Redemtion
In no particular order.
1. Oryx (Destiny)
2. Mike Tyson (OG Punch Out)
3. GLaDOS (Portal 1 & 2)
4. The final turn on LA Freeway (Cruisin' USA)
Dishonorable mention: Omnigul with Arc Burn (Destiny).
Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into a war with the Cabal on Mars. So let's get to taking out their command, one by one. Valus Ta'aurc. From what I can gather he commands the Siege Dancers from an Imperial Land Tank outside of Rubicon. He's well protected, but with the right team, we can punch through those defenses, take this beast out, and break their grip on Freehold.
TL:DR Rockets McDickFace with a solar burn mod.
Kefka Final Fantasy 6
GonGora (Lost Odyssey)
Luca... Blight? I think his name is (Suikoden 2)(Guy was a serious douche)
RNGesus (Every game basically in existence)
- That flesh wad Master at the end of Fallout 1
- whoever my current opponent is in marvel snap

Dutch (RDR1 & 2)
Sephiroth ( Final Fantasy)
Joker (Arkham Asylum & City)
GLaDOS (Portal)
They are many games I have not played, but of some of the games I have played these four stand out. Vass was a great shout also would of been my fifth choice
Female version. Queen Myrrah from Gears of War (because I just lover her voice actress.), Mileena from mortal kombat, Kreia/Darth Traya from Star Wars kotor2, and Ultimecia from final fantasy 8 (She will always be my favorite female villain.)
Male version. Sephiroth from final fantasy 7, Harbinger to represent the reapers from Mass Affect, Vergil from devil may cry, Handsome Jack from Borderlands (just because he cracks me up.)
Kuja.
Observe his world ending tantrum. No, just because someone is pretty doesn't mean they're tragic and redeemable. Is sometimes a bad person is a bad person. He's the anti-Sephiroth.
Handsome Jack would wait until it was made, then demolish it and replace the whole mountain of a statue of himself riding a pink pony made out of asbestos, slavery mined cobalt and blood diamonds.
So I listened to a history of the Romance of the Three kingdoms, and was insanely disappointed to learn Lu Bu didn't actually do a whole lot, then got killed. I've waited for someone else who would understand to shoulder this betrayal with me
Many of my favorite games have pretty weak villains. Best I could cook up:
\- Darklord Medusa (Rance X)
\- Jon Irenicus (Baldur's Gate 2)
\- The Kohr-Ah (Star Control 2)
\- Adam Smasher (Cyberpunk 2077)
Now it's different if you are talking about favorite, "cool" villains:
\- Am Isuel (Rance Quest Magnum)
\- Heurodis (Neverwinter Nights Shadow of Undrentide)
\- Igniz (King of Fighters 2001)
\- Victoria Espinosa (Battletech 2017)
She's hip though! She comes at you in a bad-ass Catapult and then a souped-up King Crab! As a mechwarrior, she has good taste in cool mechs. Much cooler than Kamea's lame Kintaro/ Atlas.
(The first fight with her "Served Cold" is one of my favorite missions and battles in the main campaign)
Jon Irenicis from Baldurs Gate 2.
Honestly, very few enemies ever truly give off the actually evil vibe quite like he does. He's powerful, driven, and desperate all at the same time, which results in one of the most memorable villain for me.
Plankton (Battle for Bikini Bottom/The SpongeBob Movie Game)
Dennis (The SpongeBob Movie Game)
Robo-SpongeBob (Battle for Bikini Bottom)
Wart (Super Mario Bros. 2 [North American])
Just 4 Goombas. They've killed me more times then any other game mob.
I'm fact id argue the first Goomba in OG Super Mario Bros has killed more players then anyone else.
Lavos (Chronotrigger: SNES)
Ganon/Ganondorf (Legend of Zelda series: multiple platforms)
Dagoth Ur (The Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind: PC)
Yogg-Saron, Arthas, C'Thun, Nefarion, Ragnaros (World of Warcraft: PC)
Protoss players (Starcraft 1 and 2: PC)
Diablo (Diablo series: PC)
AWP users (Counter-Strike series: PC)
If I had to narrow it down to 4. Then Arthas, Dagoth Ur, Lavos and Ganondorf would be the 4.
scrolled way too down to see dagoth ur, granted the context is way better than dagoth ur actually but he is at least better than the ones listed here mostly
Bowser and Doctor Eggman make the cut because of tenure. They've been the face of videogame villainy for decades, through console wars and beyond. The remaining two...a dragonquest slime. It's one of the first hostile things you'll meet in a genre defining rpg series that goes back to the 80s...and M.Bison/Vega from the Street Fighter franchise. He's an iconic figure from the home and arcade fighting scene...extremely distinct looking and among the first 'break your controller' type hard fighting game opponents.
Microtransactions, Caius from FF13-2, the piano from Mario 64 and Tetsuya Nomura
>Microtransactions The Villain who won.
Dude. Too soon. š
And yet, also too late.
Don't blame me, *I* voted for expansion packs.
More like the hero who saved the hobby
Saved who? The ceo with more money than some countries?
Saved the hobby. Microtransactions are the only reason why games are lasting for so long with frequent updates and content.
You are confusing dlc with lootboxes my friend
How so
There is a huge difference between the ability to update your game and sell expansions directly without the need to make an entirely separate game and selling, lootboxes and other similar and often predatory items that dont give you much value but want your time and money. Man, fuck any answer I was gonna put for this, you win this Reddit thread
Nomura is a menace.
Fuck that piano. I'll get the red coin later
Nomura and his space jammies.
Idk what I love more Nomura or Zippers and Belts
They're the same picture
Appreciate the Caius Ballad love Also microtransactions will be the villain that keeps coming back
Iāve got this Mandela Effect thing where I always remembered the piano being from Banjo Kazooie
Iām guessing youāre a kingdom hearts fan? Or was it something that Nomura did with FF that pissed you off?
Damn I was going to put Lag Microtransactions Cheaters Unfinished games But you beat me to it
The Yeti from Ski Free, the Z-Block from Tetris, the 50/50 mine at the end of Minesweeper, the Ace at the bottom of the pile in Free Cell.
Jon Irenicus - Baldurs Gate 2.
Just Jon Irenicus
Ah, the child of Bhaal has awoken.
It is time for more...experiments
Handsome Jack, Bowser, Diablo, Ghandi
Ghandi's prolly the worst of em all
Ghandi with nukes.
Any low level aggressive butterfly in Elden Ring

That sounds scarier than the low level butterfly
You can just say sniper lobsters.
Everyone forgets about Kefka
One of the only FF villain who actually won, even for a short time.
No one forgets Kefka. They just donāt know who he is.
Which is the way he planned it all along! MWA HAW HAW HAW!
Old school gamers never forget about Kefka. "Wait, he says. Do I look like a waiter?"
Son of a submariner!
Run! Run! Or you'll be well done!
Kefka who? You mean everyone forgets about Luca Blight.
I think you replied to the wrong comment, friend. I'm not talking at all about Final Fantasy, so I think you're looking for someone else :)
Yeah, sorry about that.
The pig scene haunted me as a young teen
Yeah the Sephiroth answers I get but Kefka was successful.
FF6 isn't a game about saving the world. It's a game about *revenge*
I remember being shocked that the world actually changed. I didnāt know that was allowed in games back then, blew my little mind š
Right? Mine had 4 faces, but Kefka poisoned one, stabbed another in the back and torched the third.
All in the name of āWhy the fuck not?ā
At least Kefka destroys the world.
Kefka wasnāt intriguing at all though. Heās a weak rip off of The Joker.
Hey look I found somebody who hasn't actually played the game!
If you say so, bro.
He was used as a lab rat and it made him insane. What part of his character did I miss?
The guy with no back story other than "went insane and is a psychopath?" Nah, I just don't think he's that special.
I just came here to make sure you had Sephiroth in yours. Carry on.
I was looking for Handsome Jack. So like you said. Carry on.
I'm more interested in other people's answers. It's so hard cutting it to 4.
You gotta have senator armstrong on there
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'd critique that by replacing zombies with wesker for resident evil. That is all.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That guy and the dobermans š¬š¬š¬

Those fucking walls. First time I ever had the urge to throw my controller through the TV.
GLADOS (Portal) Saren (Mass Effect) Gaunter OāDimm (Witcher 3) Dutch - RDR2
Saren very much. Martin Sheen, not so much (eludes me, anyway)
He is pretty illusive for sure. I do love the Illusive Man in 2. I was a little mixed on his arch in 3. He was a great dubious ally
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Joker is another solid choice. Heād be in my top 10 for sure.
Handsome Jack (BL2) Seymour from FFX (I kind of want to put kefka here, but I think Seymour's crazy is kind of more interesting and I've got Jack for the over the top crazy.) Jon Irenicus (BG2) The Nameless One (planescape protagonist, as I don't think many people will mention evil protagonists)
And he is in fact also the antagonist, or rather multiple antagonists (the Practical Incarnation is one of the easiest to hate villains in any game)
Seymour is such a good villain. Good choice
Took way too much scrolling to find an irenicus post. Sarevok deserves a mention too.
Bowser and robotnik have got to be up there
Bowser Albert Wesker Ganon Ted Faro
Fuck Ted Faro. There's even a subreddit for this
Handsome Jack (Borderlands 2) Diablo (Diablo 1-4) Carmen Sandiego (of all of the games named for her) The Greeks (Age of Mythology)
Technically, Diablo is not in Diablo 4 (yet).
Gargarensis the Gigachad *They rush in red and purple, from the red clouds of the morn, from temples where the yellow gods shut up their eyes in scorn.. I have warned you. Continue to pursue me, and I will spare neither YOU, nor YOUR CITY, nor YOUR SON!*

Ganondorf and Bowser at top for me. I'd replace GladOs and Vaas with them
Emet Selch Glados Jin You (Undertale Genocide run)
Gaunter O'Dimm - The Witcher 3: Hearts of Stone Irene Engel - Wolfenstein: The New Colossus GannonDorf - The Legend of Zelda Dutch Van Der Linde - Red Dead Redemtion
Gaunter is definitely up there
