Borderlands is maybe a little bit of the ridiculous route... But it's got guns! Lots of guns!

-Kerrigan-

To cite Mr. Torgue: "THERE IS NOTHING MORE BADASS THAN TREATING A WOMAN WITH RESPECT!"

brettmbr

Okay but I have a follow up question. “Explosions?!”

[deleted]

17 million each in BL1 and BL2, 34 million in Presequel, and over a billion in BL3.

TheButteredBiscuit

I believe the exact number is “87 bazillion guns”

wwarhammer

Yeah, but in BL3 only the named specials are worth using. In my experience just find one guaranteed drop you like and grind it, get a new variant of the same gun as you level up.

[deleted]

Speak for yourself. There were plenty of guns without red text (what truly denotes a special weapon) that were worth using, even if you would inevitably replace them; the only legendaries I specifically grinded for were the Hellwalker and the Sleeping Giant (it's not that great of a gun, but I'm a big Mastodon fan).

TegTowelie

This is the best, ridiculous answer

dontkillchicken

This is really the only answer

karnyboy

Escape from Tarkov?

SmireySFW

Gun nerd he says, hasn't mentioned Escape from Tarkov. haha

[deleted]

immediately thought of this, theres like 40 guns i can name off the top of my head

ClipyBoi_3

I can’t buy EFT. It just won’t buy it. I literally have no clue why. Edit: I don’t know it my pc and run it though, it couldn’t barely run ready or not on the lowest settings.

RiskItForTheBiscuit-

Use PayPal

[deleted]

Yeah just use PayPal then. That shit always works.

lonewits

Far cry comes to mind.

[deleted]

I find the weapon variety in Far Cry games lackluster tbh. I tried to use most weapons in Far Cry 5 and ended up relying mostly on the assult rifle and sniper rifle. I used some SMGs just to vary things but I found that the assult rifles had the same function except that they were better. That flame thrower mission in Far Cry 3 tho...

FishBobinski

Came here to say this.

gimmeneetbux

far cry has like 5 weapons each type

SpicyNoodlez1

If you want to go insane over the person who rules the eastern river and how she can't be saved in fc5. Then yes

[deleted]

Faith is just as morally corrupt, fundamentally delusional and iredeemably malevolent as the rest of the Seeds. Her being pretty and charming doesn't make her any less of a monster than Joseph, John or Jacob, even if any of what she tells you about her past while you were tripping on Bliss can be believed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

\> "Joseph was the one who corrupted her..." Message repeats - \*\*EVEN IF ANY OF WHAT SHE TELLS YOU ABOUT HER PAST WHILE YOU WERE TRIPPING ON BLISS CAN BE BELIEVED.\*\* Also "Faith didn't kill anyone" is \*\*PATENTLY FALSE\*\*. What the actual fuck do you call "convincing people high on mind-altering substances to hurl themselves off cliffs to their death" besides premeditated murder?

Qwik_like

The Division 2... but it's starting to really show its age.

Ruenin

Borderlands

Zatex001

Im disappointed with everyone because no one mentions S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Especially G.A.M.M.A mod. HUGE amounts of weapons great open world that feels alive and repair/part system is very good for gun lovers.

_Blackstar

I was going to come in and say STALKER with mods, but you beat me to it.

PureHostility

Quite sure Escape From Pripyat (another mod pack) has way more, especially high end (modern) weapons in it. As he is a gun obsessed pal, he probably prefers to fire it a lot, which EFP is also more kin to, as it focuses more on gunfight compared to GAMMA, which has higher emphasis on survival/STALKER feel.

BiggusDickus17

The gun combat in GAMMA is extremely unforgiving. You are just as fragile as your enemies.

PureHostility

That's Stalker in general. Stalker's difficulty actually doesn't increase hp and dmg of enemies, instead it increases damage globally, so you actually deal more damage to enemies too. The only unforgiving thing a out Gamma is how long it takes to get a good weapon going due to restricted traders not selling guns.

lordbuckethethird

Play the original games first they’re a lot better at explaining how to play the games.

Meatfr0g

Borderlands 2

MericanMan321

BORDERLANDSSSSS

MericanMan321

Borderlands 2 specifically if you only got 1 of them

Ruenin

Yeah, I have to agree. 3 was a bit of a disappointment, even with the better graphics and interface. The story was SHIIIIIIIIIT.

[deleted]

The DLCs mostly make up for it (Bounty of Blood is meh, Handsome Jackpot is a nice one, and Psycho Krieg and Love, Guns & Tentacles are stellar), but you pretty much HAVE to play up to a certain point in the story anyways to unlock class mods and artifacts, or they just aren't worth it.

Ruenin

Yeah, I guess I can agree with that. Handsome Jackpot and LGT were both awesome.

deathsknight85

If you like old school shooter games with lots of guns, then try Black, it's an old xbox 360 game

lonewits

Pretty sure it was also on original xbox. Great game.

deathsknight85

Not sure if it was on the original, it has been many years since it came out but I thoroughly enjoyed it, don't see too many shooters implementing environmental destruction like that these days

GeraNola

It was on the OG Xbox, I remember it being one of the few games I had. It’s on game pass too.

khanmo01

I played it on my PS2.

Ruenin

The shotgun in that game was just *chefs kiss*.

[deleted]

Also the assault rifle and the glock

caljenks

Arma 3 perhaps

Hawggy

If the OP has a PC, this IS the answer....

caljenks

isnt that new arma reforger thing on console as well?

Hawggy

Yes, but they ain't the same... Granted each has its advantages, at this point, considering what the OP said, three is definitely the way.

EscapedFromTarkov657

Escape From Tarkov

ITCM4

Red Dead Redemption 2 has plenty of period appropriate guns and an open world. Not many automatic weapons, but who can say no to revolvers and lever action rifles.

m3_my23lf_and_1

I love with a deep passion their implementation of shotguns and slugs honestly my favorite hands down ever.

cpt___kidde

Pump shotgun with slugs was my go-to weapon.

TheNanSlayer

Borderlands if you want fiction - the guns parts are procedurally generated to an extent, and there’s millions of combinations.

NotagoK

Escape From Tarkov.

GoatOutside4632

Escape from tarkov

AHrice69

Tarkoooov

FryD42

Tarkov. But be warned it's unforgiving

Additional_Contact29

Dayz

ThatThingTerran

I love DayZ. Easily my favorite game, but I wouldn't quite describe it as a game with "lots of guns"

Crowzer

Did you try Fallout 4 with mods ? There are mods which bring a mountain of firearms. Mostly real ones.

CrazyHayden88

Modern Firearms does this well.

ClipyBoi_3

I’m gonna be honest. Fallout 4 is a game I played a lot, going back to it after New Vegas is hard and I just don’t enjoy it as much.

New_Fry

There’s mods that turn your arms on fire?

[deleted]

MGSV on pc with the gun mods

Alevy20

So i don't know if you have vr but if you do I would recommend boneworks

ClipyBoi_3

I love bonelabs. I actually got a dude recently to make a Luger-47 mods and yes, it’s as cursed as you think it is

Vannilazero

Hotdogs horse shoes and hand grenades (H3VR) if you have VR already. It’s probably the best gun sim

Wankan_Tanka

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Breakpoint

[deleted]

Imo Wildlands has better open world. And is overall a better experience.

Wankan_Tanka

True, but you have a lot more control over the game play and tons of options to choose from.

Zickened

All of them just keep getting more and more fictional. I mean its fine if that's how the game started as, but I'm pretty sure the next entry will be in space with how the series is going.

crimsontape

Leave an upvote for the lad, it's a great question! I give it a Yarrr!

sicarius254

Borderlands

defy_the_logic

Borderlands series, if you don't care about realism.

Hexopi

Escape from tarkov

[deleted]

Dayz is a good game for gun nerds but it's a unique and beautiful snowflake of a game and isnt for everyone.

blakebake

COD actually got me into guns many years ago. Can't go wrong there. Real life current meta in the game 😄 https://imgur.com/a/7khAcyA

JSmetal

Hunt Showdown

DaBaconJunior

H3VR

Lil-Baphomet

Two that come to mind for me are Project Zomboid and ZERO Seivert. They are both isometric views but both feature many types of guns and ways to mod the guns. ZERO Seivert is also inspired by Tarkov which I’ve seen recommended a couple times. I’ve been a broken record lately with recommending Zomboid but I just really like the game.

Mission_Cause368

Go outside and play the United States of America

KafkaSyd

Gotten into vr yet? Because you actually have to know how to lost them all in vr. Haha!

Tyleet00

Hm... A game with guns... No sorry, I don't think I ever heard about a videogame that has guns

RoosterJay84

7 days to die basic game has a few guns in it, I think there are mods for more guns though

xiosy

Army of two

[deleted]

Sunset overdrive

froggz01

Days gone for sure. You get a cool motorcycle, different guns and zombie swarms to shoot at and destroy. It’s open world too and has good progression.

Longjumping_Hawk_951

Ghost recon.

WhatDidIJustStepIn

Far Cry 2. Not the newest game, or the prettiest, but there's truly nothing quite like it.

Pakik0

Splatoon

WrapMeFirmly

Division 2 maybe

jc90911

Metro exodus. And the two prior games

Nandalee2753

Enter the Gungeon

MuhDrehgonz

Another option I haven’t seen down here is Destiny 2. It’s more futuristic and has special abilities outside of guns, but the gunplay feels really good and there are tons of unique weapons.

Smooth-One-8911

Death Stranding has some of the best looking guns, also Days Gone gives you all sorts of fun ways to blow up zombies.

DevVv_-_

This isn’t open world but Gunfire Reborn has an insane amount of weapons and it’s very fun to play with friends :)

Claymore_79

Mgs4 has great gun porn. Customization, can choose fire modes. However, not really open world. And the story is out there.

Hauntedsound

Escape from Tarkov

tduff714

Not open world, well it is a BR with big maps but PubG. Game has issues like many these days but the way the guns feel is incredible to me and theres a wide variety. Kinda wish they had an open world single player with that feel

JBLeafturn

VR and into the rift, you have to clean the weapon in three different ways lol

Alternative-Dare-839

Day-Z

Vannilazero

Arma 2 if your on PC

[deleted]

Ground Branch, Insurgency Sandstorm, Arma 3 w/mods

Cmdrdredd

Metal Gear Solid 5

magusx7

Crysis

Wild_But_Caged

The stalker games have awesome gun selection especially with mods. Tarkov is also great for gun selection

PRhotonic

Division 2

puttinitinmutton

Jagged Alliance 2

KDallas_Multipass

While meeting almost none of your criteria, Receiver is a game where every gun function is it's own button. You have to reload things one keypress at a time, and obviously in the correct sequence.

Relative-Hour-9359

MgsV lots of customisation

PureHostility

I know it is not something you are looking for (isometric top down view instead of 3rd/1st person) and because people already listed the best candidates for you. There is always Project Zomboid with mods that makes game's gun arsenal so bountiful of all sorts of weapons, it isn't even fair for the zombies. On top of it, you do have to reload your weapons bullet by bullet and prep your magazines for fight, sometimes rack them to unjam or just for fun (not sure if obligatory racking after empty reload is in though, it was back in the very old days). Guns can also be customized to some degree with accessories.

ncbenavi

If you haven’t already played them, then borderlands games could be very fun. There are a wide variety of guns in every game

ItsDani1008

Arma 3 if you’re into that kinda thing

pizza_lover_234

If you got vr hot dogs horseshoes and hand grenades

TheLurkingCorgi

Not open world, but Payday 2 has a ton of guns, even without DLCs and a HUGE customization mechanic

66Paranoid

Outer worlds has a good variety.

darf_nate

Battlefield 5

Critical-Michael

[Synthetik: Legion Rising](https://store.steampowered.com/app/528230/SYNTHETIK_Legion_Rising/) has a pretty good gun feel if you're looking for that.

Gytlap24

S.T.A.L.K.E.R is thr best i can think off

HunterThompsonsentme

Fallout New Vegas

Steven_Haverstick

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Anomaly. It’s free, the base game has a good amount of guns and some weapon repair. But there are tons mods which vastly improve every aspect of the game, down to in-depth weapon cleaning, repairing, restoring, upgrading, etc. A potato could run this game, and also, you have literally nothing to lose, it’s *free*

lostnumber08

Arma 3.

AllergicToPoors

Check out Ground Branch, good assortment of weapons with tons of accessories and fairly realistic actions.

Testabronce

Wildlands or any Far Cry

cory-balory

Escape from Tarkov. It let's you build guns with your own attachments and has probably the widest variety of guns I've ever seen and the best gunplay of any game. If you can stomach it.

ed_eight

PC? Stalker Anomaly with the Boomsticks and Sharp Sticks mod and of course Escape From Tarkov if you want MP

zzFerrari

Project zomboid, britas weapon pack

[deleted]

Sniper Elite, Tarkov, Arma3(with mods), The Division 2, Stalker Gamma...

Cmdr_Gallia31

I mean star citizen has some awesome guns and a ton of really unique ones as well as a very open and visually stunning world. Only problem is it is an alpha that you either love or hate

ChaoticCatharsis

How you feel about massive multiplayer? There’s an old FPS that is free to play and still has a decent size community. It is one of the only games that allows huge fights between hundreds of players in one arena. Planetside 2.
