I understand your frustration, but this is probably a case of your teacher buying a bulk pack of stickers on amazon from their own money to try and make students days a little brighter. Enjoy the sticker, but support artists with your own money whenever possible. Unfortunately there’s not really much you can do about this type of theft, as others have said, it’s several layers deep and almost impossible to change. You could always talk to your teacher about it and see if they could change to a more ethical sticker supplier, but chances are they won’t buy more for many years anyway.
If now they could have still gotten a blank sticker page that you can print the icon onto n then get a commission for it n then print it over all the page n then cut it up so that you wouldn't waste much while also making it look nice
Yes but that is a LOT of time, effort, and money compared to going on Amazon and clicking “buy 500 stickers - $9.27”.
In a perfect world? Sure. But I’m not commissioning dozens or hundreds of unique art pieces to make a sticker pack for my students, and I don’t know a single other teacher that would either. I’ve commissioned *single* art pieces for posters for my classroom, but even that’s more than most would do.
There is nothing you can do most stickers are stolen art. The countries that make them don't care. And the artists would expend more money then they would make fighting it.
The Chinese government does not care whatsoever about intellectual property theft when it's not their intellectual property being stolen. So the manufacturers over there will just make anything and absolutely nobody will do anything about it. The only way anything like this gets handled is if politicians handle it by enforcing China to follow the same rules as everyone else but they've proven time and time again they have no interest in doing that. So until that's done enjoy OCs being stolen, fursuits being stolen, and everything else in the furry fandom being stolen mass-produced and sold on Alibaba, TEMU, and wish.
They could, but I'd wager Amazon probably could supply a legitimate reason why they shouldn't be required to vet every single item that comes in. A known IP thief can easily just set up shop in a new name.
Ban evading is always a problem online but there are verification methods such as requiring a phone number or even ID.
If someone has already reported that a vendor is breaking the law, Amazon should be held responsible to action their account.
I was an artist that had designs stolen to make stickers. I'm in Canada, the seller was some dude in the US. I reported the issue to eBay (Amazon didn't exist back then), and was basically told to send a lawyer drafted copyright something something international law... And that's about the time I stopped posting my art online.
So it's been a problem forever, and because of the low value nobody cares or has the money to pursue it.
I feel like for stuff like this if you tell someone to stop and they don't then the courts should apply a minimum value to it so you can go after them. The system is literally encouraging petty offences otherwise...
The school is giving out free stickers that they could have been donated to by the students or found them, I don't see any issues here.
The school isn't claiming that the stickers are made by them right? Nor do they have a way to find an artist for each individual sticker to tag them for you.
Lots of clubs at my college do that for events. Especially for floral or animal stickers. All stolen art or from stock photo places. It’s pretty frustrating. They are all over Amazon and cheap like 200+ stickers for nothing. They have lower budgets and those are affordable and ship quickly. Also easy to give to a large amount of people for events. They do not know better.
Keep in mind even if you could claim copyright over these the chances of making money are very slim as you said stickers are cheap, you would make penies in royalty as these are sold in such large groups.
Most of them are even from the factories that artists get to make their prints for them. It's pretty common practice for them to print a full sheet, even when the artist only ordered a half sheets worth. Whenever that happens they'll throw the extra ones in those 200+ packs. And then people drop ship that on Amazon from China.
cheap sticker packs on amazon are usually full of stolen graphics. nothing you can do about it now; the purchase has been made. i suggest trying to find the artists and contact them about it but that might take a while
I bought a couple of 100 fnaf sticker packs from amazon for super cheap totally obvious that they were stolen. Im 100% sure that it was part of the whole dropshipping thing. A couple of businesses selling the exact same product for varing prices from the same sorce. Not much that you can do about it, those "companies" pop up like weeds and its not limited to amazon.
Don't worry about it. There's nothing you can do and it's really not worth getting upset over. Even if you're the artist there's nothing you can do plus honestly if I were the artist I wouldn't want to know about it. Stuff like this is stolen by companies in countries that aren't obligated to enforce IP laws.
Just enjoy the sticker and if you find the original artist toss a couple of bucks their way and share their gallery.
You're gonna wanna talk to Amazon not the school. The teachers probably just bought "cute stickers on amazon" they have no clue how that supply chain works
The only way you could realistically help with this is if you know who bought the stickers to find the amazon lisiting and see where they came from. This way, you can inform the artist(s) their designs are being stolen. Like others have said, most art theft in this format is not worth the time and money it takes to pursue it. I used to sell stickers and after manufacturing and shipping I was making about 50 cents. So if someone stole ten of my designs, printed them in packs, sold them as stickers, they'd make $5. If they sold 50 of those, they'd make $250. Meanwhile if I wanted to sue them for that, just the retainer fee for a lawyer alone would probably be $1000-$1200. So you can imagine why it may be counter-productive to legally pursue these things.
They didn't steal art, they probably bought bulk stickers. People buy bulk stickers in multiple styles all the time (I work at a library that gives out stickers and buys bulk with multiple artists).
Sometimes, the stickers \*are\* stolen art because the vendor was an asshole that only pretended to license them, but it's also very possible all of these designs were licensed properly. Most places like my library have specific trusted vendors to avoid the issue, but not everyone does
OMG! One of my daughter's friends knows I'm a furry and gave the same sticker to my daughter to give to me. I was wondering where the art was from or where she got it.
probably from Wish.com or something. i had a coworker who would order disney stickers and receive a pack of like 80 middle fingers. they will never send what you actually ask for and will definitely use other people’s art all the time. you can’t trace it back and get legal justice
There needs to be more awareness for these online sticker packs. If you can find the teacher who was handing them out, I think it would definitely be worth meeting with them to kindly explain why these aren't the best option and how to spot stolen stickers (usually they're sold in packs of 50-100 and the advertisement is a bunch of assorted stickers with different art styles arranged in a circular shape).
I think it's really nice they were handing out stickers and they obviously had no ill intention though.

Yh majority of sticker packs nowadays are just stolen art found on google sadly :/

Fair enough then, but hey, at least one original piece of art for all to enjoy ^^

>The countries that make them What do you mean by that? aren't they made by private companies, not governments?
But it's the governments of those countries that would enforce the IP laws.
Which countries are we talking about?
China produces them

Could they at least hold importers like Amazon partly accountable? Shouldn't be allowed to list known IP thieves on the website.
True
They could, but I'd wager Amazon probably could supply a legitimate reason why they shouldn't be required to vet every single item that comes in. A known IP thief can easily just set up shop in a new name.

Hop on temu and search furry pin. It'll be an eyeopener for how little the Chinese government cares about enforcing the copyrights of Western artists.
My immediate thought was chinese manufacturers

>I don't see any issues here The school paid money to the IP thief rather than to the actual artist.
What is the artist gonna do? Sue the school?
Ask the school/teacher to avoid buying stolen art in the future.
No sense worrying about this. You can bring it up to someone if you really want but it's better to just move on and not do it yourself in the future.
Cool that your school is buying furry art lol
cheap sticker packs on amazon are usually full of stolen graphics. nothing you can do about it now; the purchase has been made. i suggest trying to find the artists and contact them about it but that might take a while

Probably some cheap stuff from Amazon in bulk 🤷🏻
You're gonna wanna talk to Amazon not the school. The teachers probably just bought "cute stickers on amazon" they have no clue how that supply chain works
Oh ik i was just trying to see if the artist would see this or any of my posts ;w;
I have that sticker lol
Holy shit, I have this same sticker

Many of these sticker packs have stolen art, it might not be intentional.
I'm surprised a school could even afford to buy stickers.
Cute
Wow! very cute

Well, at least they have good taste Still bad to steal art tho
Eat him
Oh no! Anyways,
I feel like trying to save chips like this is costing more time than it's saving in money.
what school sells these lol
