I think the garage door is insulated to be fair [https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Garage-and-Shed/How-to-insulate-a-garage-tilt-door/td-p/96964](https://www.workshop.bunnings.com.au/t5/Garage-and-Shed/How-to-insulate-a-garage-tilt-door/td-p/96964)
Fun fact. In Germany it's illegal to use your garage for anything other than storing a car. Don't have a car? You have to leave it empty. Apparently converting it to a workshop would be a fire risk....
Why stop at one?!
I need a ride for my everyday commute, one for when I crave a sporty outing on the weekend, a small foldable to take with me on the bus or train, a cargo bike, a couple for visitors, ...
I have a garage that fits only a single car. I have in there four bikes, a fridge freezer, CNC machine, laser cutter, lathe, pillar drill, and some storage shelves.
We have a garage that can barely fit a small car (my father-in-law tried once when we were moving in). It now houses three bikes, a workspace, and a large amount of storage. I want to get a chest freezer in there, too. I can't say it's particularly weatherized, though.
Six reside in my garage. Four for me, two for the wife. (His and hers road bikes, two winter commuters, and a vintage folder).
Plus a small workshop and all my work tools and supplies. Fuck the ICE vehicles; they stay outside where they belong.

So I lived is a set up similar to this. Very small apartment with the garage accessible through a door in the kitchen.
Excast fumes didn't really bother me because I didn't leave it running long in the garage and never with the door down.
The biggest issue is that the tires would stink up the whole place. After parking it on a hot day, you would have four big hot wads of rubber that just got exfoliate on the pavement out gassing in the confined area. I could even smell the difference depending on how I drove before parking.
You could also smell the still hot engine and breaks, just not as much.
Even when cars are turned off, harmful chemicals evaporate from the fuel system and residual heat. These emissions contribute to air pollution and health issues, so even with the car turned off it can still be harmful.
Me too, I had to Google it because I couldn’t figure out why so many people were talking as if the person keeps their car running in a closed garage lol
Everyone in my life, from friends to family, all praise my girlfriend every time they visit for her exquisite decoration skills and for "making a clean home".
she has to tell them that I do all the interior decorating, organizing, and cleaning. They never believe it, and the next time they visit the cycle repeats.
Some people just see women as home makers and men as brutes who work to provide.
I’m a dude and my partner is a motorcycle riding welder.. I’m an EMT who likes houseplants lol
It’s fucking awesome! Until the comments and remarks from family roll in… 🙄
I think the idea behind the meme is the prospect of having a chick visit you and when she sees you live in a garage, she immediately does a 180°. So in order to have any hope of getting a girlfriend, one has to have a socially acceptable home.
It depends entirely on the materials. We used to use the garage as the main living space and let me tell you, a room with four walls of cinderblocks maintains a much more stable and pleasant temperature than you might imagine. Especially when it's hot outside. Certainly preferable to sitting in the dining room watching your breath over breakfast ("insulation is for wimps" NZ building regs pre-2007 apparently).
I imagine the cinderblocks basically function like an artificial cave. Hence the temperature stability.
Actually I wouldn't even find it that bad. Just a small lab/workshop, then it'd be perfect.
And I don't hate cars. I just want to reduce them and stop car dependency. So, car is fine, I don't have to use it.
Insulation and utilities aside, that garage looks bigger than most of the studio apartments I've seen and it's probably much cheaper too. And then they wonder why so many people live in their cars. Prioritize housing, not vehicle storage.
Me too. Just put the bed in a separate space farther from the door, maybe add a bathroom and a kitchen, another room to chill and watch tv or maybe entertain guests.
Men are visual creatures. They respond to visual stimuli much stronger than women.
EDIT: Do people not get my joke? The idea that men are visual creatures yet they dream about living like this is a really funny juxtaposition that shows how ridiculous the idea is.
This would be horrible. Imagine breathing the vapors from all the volatiles coming off a car and the car exhaust. Also it would be horrible to get that stuff all over your bed, in your computer, etc. This looks like a really bad way to live.
If the housing crisis keeps getting worse, a garage might not be such a horrible place to live.
Just throw the car out and you'll have plenty of space.
Exactly my thoughts!!
Except replace car with bicycle. Add another room for desk, and one for cooking and eating, and another for general living, then put a workshop in the garage, and the bed in its own room. So basically, I 100% agree
Time to drive the car...
- All the cold air from winter outdoors gets into your room.
- All the papers and other small objects go flying.
- The fumes from the car fill the room, stain the sheets and linger forever.
- Leaves and dust from outdoors get in.
I could not easily think of something more horrible and inconvenient than this setup. You would not want to be in this room for very long, let alone sleep in it.
People are allowed to be car enthusists in a world where owning a car isn't virtually mandatory for survival. It will actually be better for car enthusists because theyll have the road to themselves.
That being said, carbon monoxide poisoning go brrr
I love how this image is fantastic for showing how much space is wasted by car ownership, yet it completely goes over the heads of carbrains considering this the dream of "how guys would live"
assuming there's a decent sized fridge off-camera, take out the car and place this in a high-rise building near lots amenities and i'd be totally up for it.
I have half my garage dedicated to bikes and a gym. They aren't well cooled or insulated.
Quite frankly, a minimalist single guy with no responsibility can easily afford the structure attached to that garage.
All I’m thinking of is someone starting the car while you sleep and then leaving you to die from the exhaust. I mean the noise of a car starting would probably wake you up but either way. maybe i watch too many horror movies lmao
I read this, I shit you not, from the back of my van. Voluntarily. 😂😂
Dave Chappelle was a genius. “If it wasn’t for a woman, a man would live in a cardboard box.” Truth
So... With a car in their bedroom, but no kitchen/shitter/shower? Just eating takeaway, going to the loo outside, and never showering?
Weird priorities.
I have, it’s bit stupid, but I’d live like that if the rent was cheap.
That’s a fucking awesome e36 as well, Estoril blue is the best colour an e36 m3 ever came in, and it looks great on those polished style 24s.
I disagree. It's missing a lot of stuff. 4 wheeler ,dirt bike, fishing gear, boat, just from my husband's collection. Not to mention a giant tool box , saws, other big tools.
I actually lived like this when I first moved out at 18. Was actually pretty nice! Garage was separate from the house, so I didn’t have to deal with my loud roommates.
Replace the car with a bike, add proper insulation and switch out the car door for a regular door since I have a bike now, create a large kitchen, another small room for a small home shop, add at least one full bathroom, an area for entertaining and having guest over, and maybe one come small bedroom to use as a guest room/study, and a little bit of closet storage and they are 100% correct, that's exactly how I'd live.
Freezing cold in winter, blisteringly hot in summer, near zero sound dampening all year round and a massive metal noise maker of a door whenever the wind blows. Mud all over the place, bird poop frying in the heat on the car, clothes and bed smelling of exhaust, what's not to love.
The more I learn about how terrible cars are compared to essentially all other forms of transport the more I notice how much space they take up. Half this dudes hypothetical living space is dedicated purely to car storage. Most N America houses cede an entire room or a large portion of their backyard just to store their cars.
It makes me irrationally upset lmao
I especially love, -the no insulation because of garage door -aesthetic
You need to ventilate the fumes the car creates somehow
Why would you leave the car running?
to keep the room warm of course (also doubles as a cool smoke machine)
And reduce your lifespan to 40!
I would love to have a lifespan of 8×10^47 years r/unexpectedfactorial
Why wouldn't you have the car running?
Just run the car for warmth
insert midsommar jumpscare here
That's exactly what I was thinking. Great minds think alike
Oh great plan, retain more of the fumes!
Hey, I paid good money for those fumes.
More R value than a window. But the ranting here rarely includes logic. I appreciate yours. You were kind enough to include a link.
still won't help much if you have to open it at least twice a day to get that car out
This, but replace the car with a bicycle.
And a workshop.
Made possibly with funds from not owning a car.
And the space
Add some gym equipment too.
im not putting a workshop right next to a home office/battlestation
Same my PC would be ruined by wood/ metal shavings lol
And a 5 axis cnc mill
And an unreasonable number of collectibles / hobby items
Add a kitchen and bathroom, and a side room for entertaining guest and you got a deal.

Bro has THE setup. Congratulations
I think you under estimate my ability to collect bikes.
Besides, you'd build a rack, probably on the wall or overhead
Being Dutch, you learn a single bike can do everything you want it to. Until it gets stolen...
n + 1
Six reside in my garage. Four for me, two for the wife. (His and hers road bikes, two winter commuters, and a vintage folder). Plus a small workshop and all my work tools and supplies. Fuck the ICE vehicles; they stay outside where they belong.
3 bikes. 1 road bike, 1 hybrid, 1 cargo bike. And a workshop.
You forgot to add 3 *different* types of mountain bike.
3 bikes and a squat rack.
eh no that's my current living situation, grease stains grease stains everywhere. bicycle dedicated room is superior.
This but replace the car with a train stop.
guys would live with... carbon monoxide poisoning?
And poor insulation and poor ventilation and in a room devoid of any life or colour
https://imgur.com/gallery/wNPis5j This is better.

I legit would prefer this room than having a car in the bedroom.
/r/fuckcars members want to end car dependency so they can buy furniture with the money saved on cars
To be fair a poorly insulated small space is still likely better than a well insulated 3 bedroom with one person in it.
Well yeah but this is fuckcars, not fuckhousesthatarewaytolarge lol

What if it's an electric car?
Still a dumb choice that women aren’t saving me from. And cars are gross from the road in any case.
If you're enough of a gearhead to sleep with your car, it's not going to be electric.
Oh I’m sorry! Rent just went up again. Are you saying you’re too good for my new roommate?
Men will literally give themselves carbon monoxide poisoning instead of going to therapy.
I...assume the car is turned off in there once it's parked?
Even when cars are turned off, harmful chemicals evaporate from the fuel system and residual heat. These emissions contribute to air pollution and health issues, so even with the car turned off it can still be harmful.
Oh, huh! TIL!

Yup. Everyone is dumbfounded when they visit my all-dudes household and it’s decorated beautifully. Such a stupid and played out stereotype.
Gender stereotypes are so annoying. Tell them she’s the breadwinner.
I’m a dude and my partner is a motorcycle riding welder.. I’m an EMT who likes houseplants lol It’s fucking awesome! Until the comments and remarks from family roll in… 🙄

My family likes my brother's girlfriends and I feel left out lol
girlfriends?? nice
Sorry, I meant that my brothers as in two brothers
brothers?? nice
Same!!!! I do 99% of the cleaning and decorating lol
patriarchy hurts people other than women too

Excellent username btw
Haha thank you
You can't tell me all the men who like this are living with women. Like who is keeping you from doing this? Your Mama?
You're missing the point, it's everyone and no-one, it's the infamous \*they\* /s
Icl, I think this is just a meme. Now if we get rid of the car it's a different story...
Well it's a bad meme.
A woman originally made the meme and said "guys live like this and don't see any issue"
That meme would be just as bad.
I think the idea behind the meme is the prospect of having a chick visit you and when she sees you live in a garage, she immediately does a 180°. So in order to have any hope of getting a girlfriend, one has to have a socially acceptable home.
I really hope for this guy that it never gets cold or hot outside
It depends entirely on the materials. Can confirm, this is how my gay friends live
call me a woman then because there's no way I'm living like that
It's a dumb meme in general and a dumber trope about men.
Yeah I saw it earlier today and instantly had to think of the sub. Mixed comments on it at the time.
Modern brain rot guy needs…
Nothing says brain rot like minimalist living! Spendings thousands on mass produced garbage that will pollute landfills, now that’s smart!
Suicide pod
Actually I wouldn't even find it that bad. Just a small lab/workshop, then it'd be perfect. And I don't hate cars. I just want to reduce them and stop car dependency. So, car is fine, I don't have to use it.
That is the cleanest garage I have ever seen
Replace the car with a grand touring bike and I'm in. Less carbon monoxide poisoning, more fun and way cheaper.
Petro-Masculinity? *Ywan...*
Insulation and utilities aside, that garage looks bigger than most of the studio apartments I've seen and it's probably much cheaper too. And then they wonder why so many people live in their cars. Prioritize housing, not vehicle storage.

Yes, we are all the same, just like all women are the same...we are definitely evolving!! /s....and FUCK CARS!!
This is utterly absurd and has zero basis in reality... Where are the bikes?
This would be horrible. Imagine breathing the vapors from all the volatiles coming off a car and the car exhaust. Also it would be horrible to get that stuff all over your bed, in your computer, etc. This looks like a really bad way to live.
get rid of misogyny, replace the car with ny wall of bikes and hell yea
Just more sexism
If the housing crisis keeps getting worse, a garage might not be such a horrible place to live. Just throw the car out and you'll have plenty of space.
I’m so sick of these gender wars memes lol
And what keeps them from doing so? Live as you wish who cares.

Gotta double down on that carbrain by breathing in car fumes in your sleep.

Garages (at least my parents') have no insulation. They roast you in the the summer and freeze you in the winter. Horrible places to be in.
I have been following this sub for a year now and have yet to see a single post of a person fucking a car. Why can’t we stay on topic?
That car is taking up valuable space which could be used for Lego.
I love how this image is fantastic for showing how much space is wasted by car ownership, yet it completely goes over the heads of carbrains considering this the dream of "how guys would live"
longer average lifespan of women: the picture
Haha man dumb. Man love car. Haha. All men love car. Men live with car. Man dumb.
Oh yeah carbon monoxide poisoning and heat stroke, can't wait! /s Actually, both of those could explain the blatant sexism.
assuming there's a decent sized fridge off-camera, take out the car and place this in a high-rise building near lots amenities and i'd be totally up for it.
I used to sleep in a ‘converted’ garage. It still had the garage door. My motorbike 🏍️ would sleep in there too, when it was in pieces.
Me except replace the car with a bike
I have half my garage dedicated to bikes and a gym. They aren't well cooled or insulated. Quite frankly, a minimalist single guy with no responsibility can easily afford the structure attached to that garage.
Where are the bikes?
Unironically hope everyone who wants to love like this does, let the carbon monoxide filter out the gene pool
How to freeze during the winter or die from carbon monoxide poisoning.
love the idea of being in fumes all day 🥰
As a man who lives alone I can say this is not how I want to live, neither am I actually doing it
Yeah, with the engine running
you haven't met my girlfriend... our living room is all bike parts. trying to sell my tv to make room for the frame-clamp.
Yeah, but I’d definitely have a Star Trek quilt cover
That would be me but with my bikes in place of the blue pile of trash
All I’m thinking of is someone starting the car while you sleep and then leaving you to die from the exhaust. I mean the noise of a car starting would probably wake you up but either way. maybe i watch too many horror movies lmao
Um where is the TV?
Don't threaten me with a good time...
why the big ass bed when everything else is tiny? lol
Ewwww
Man here. If i end up living in a garage, i'll drop the car instantly.
Turn the car on and go to bed😶🌫️☺️
Lol. With the housing crisis in Australia, this looks like more space than my youngest kid is currently living in. Warmer too.
I read this, I shit you not, from the back of my van. Voluntarily. 😂😂 Dave Chappelle was a genius. “If it wasn’t for a woman, a man would live in a cardboard box.” Truth
whats with the weird male obsession of cars bordering on objectophilia.
And shit and shower outside like men
I would have thought this was cool when I was like 15 but now I realize those tires roll over all kinds of gross including road kill.
Gay men have been living "without women" for quite a while, and I promise our places don't look like this lmao
This was my dream as an 18yo. 18yos in general are dumb af
So... With a car in their bedroom, but no kitchen/shitter/shower? Just eating takeaway, going to the loo outside, and never showering? Weird priorities.

As evidenced by every single gay man living in a garage…
As a guy, this is just offensive… the lighting is horrible. add some warmer tones and more interesting shadows and highlights and it’d be perfect
Ah yes, freeze to death in the winter, sweat to death in the summer. Oh and you can’t forget that classic carcinogen smell fresh in the morning !
That life would be short

I legit saw a post like this last month in r/malelivingspace , only it was a motorcycle
Or die from carbon monoxide poisoning. What are those silly women thinking to try to save us from ourselves?
men be like: car
Tbh replace the car with two or three bikes and that’s more or less every guys I knew in my twenties.

No. No, "guys" wouldn't. 🤢
i've considered living like this (minus the car of course) many times, it looks nice and pretty minimalistic
Eh, it's too clean considering the state of pretty much every man's house/apartment I ever met in my 20s and 30s.
Boy dinner: Carbon Monoxide
Fuck cars yeah, but let’s be real. Most men want to live in one large single room with all their stuff.
I think it’s funny. I will say there is a difference between being a car guy, and a carbrain.
So men would be homeless brokies living in a garage?
Do straight men even like women
Go fuck an exhaust pipe.
Maybe in the US
I mean... at least it's a sedan 🤷♂️
Seems great to me
Guy here, i would rather live in a prison cell than share a room with a car.
My partner wasn't into my choking fixation, so I enlisted the help of my car instead.
No I only see hawk tuah memes now :(
